[Episode 25] How do humans understand the nature surrounding them? And how does this understanding impact environmental security?

This interview discusses these topics through a philosophical perspective, by trying to analyze the main traits of the often troubled human-nature relationship with Serena Feloj a professor from the University of Pavia, hosted by Rethinking Climate contributor Davide Gobbicchi. 

Serena Feloj is a professor of aesthetics at the University of Pavia and has published monographs and articles at the international level. She deals mainly with Kantian studies, aesthetic intersubjectivity, philosophy of nature and environmental aesthetics.

Davide Gobbicchi, is a security studies graduate specialising in environmental security. For Rethinking Climate, he investigates the topic of human perception of nature and its implications on environmental sustainability.

[Part 2] This is the second part of the episode on youth's role in the Just Transition, before tuning in do not forget to listen to the first part! 

The EU has prioritised a just transition concerning areas of the economy heavily reliant on the extraction and combustion of fossil fuels. Such areas include West Macedonia and Megalopoli in Greece, where many households relied on income from brown coal mines and power plants. As coal is phased out to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce GHG emissions, locals have to look for alternative methods of income generation; a socioeconomic challenge therefore appears, particularly in Greece which has been hardly hit by unemployment.

In this second part of the podcast episode, hosted by YEE Alex Kassapis, he talks with experts exploring how resources can be most effectively utilised to strengthen the role of youth in the just transition, create employment opportunities and provide benefits for young people. 

In particular, Alex is joined by two experts: Ioanna Theodosiou from the renowned Greek think tank "The Green Tank", shedding light on how resources can be effectively utilized to strengthen the role of youth in Greece's just transition areas. Followed by Kostis Stergiou from the Association of Active Youths of Florina (www.oenef.eu) and Head of Europe Direct Western Macedonia, who directly supports youth initiatives in the just transition area and constitutes a link between the EU Commission and local affairs.

On Climate & Law is a podcast discussing the legal sphere to implement stronger policies in fighting climate change with a resulting collaboration between Rethinking Climate and Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) to promote clarity on this topic.

In this first first episode resulted from a collaboration between Rethinking Climate, Youth & Environment Europe, and Legal Seeds, focuses on the right of access to justice in relation to the Fit for 55 legislative package. 

In light of the recent updates and amendments to rules part of the FF55, it is crucial to ensure that specific provisions on access to justice are included, in order to allow civil society the possibility to hold Member States accountable when not complying with the climate targets.

European NGOs, such as the European Environmental Bureau, advocate for the inclusion of access to justice provisions in EU climate laws: however, many are the challenges they face.

We asked Margarida to give us an update of the NGOs work around the topic, and to clarify the role of civil society in supporting the work of EU environmental NGOs.Margarida Martins is an Assistant for Environmental Democracy at the EEB. She works on environmental law and democracy, with a main focus on the rights guaranteed by the Aarhus Convention: access to environmental information, participation in decision-making, and access to justice. She holds a Master's degree in European Public Law & Governance from Maastricht University and a Bachelor's degree in Law from NOVA School of Law, Lisbon.

Comunicare il cambiamento climatico non è una cosa recente, ma c'è chi lo fa tanti anni cercando di aumentare l'interesse verso questo argomento ormai non più recente. Con Antonio Cianciullo si parla della complessità di quello che sta accadendo al nostro pianeta e l'impatto dei nostri comportamenti, domandandoci perchè è importante comunicare bene il cambiamento climatico?

A che punto possiamo parlare di crescita (economica e produttiva) quando parliamo di ambiente? 

Come possiamo parlare di ambiente nella maniera più efficientemente? 

Antonio Cianciullo, giornalista e scrittore, ha seguito per oltre 30 anni i temi ambientali per "la Repubblica" partecipando ai principali appuntamenti internazionali. Attualmente è responsabile di "Terra", il canale sull'ambiente dell'Huffington Post. Tra i suoi libri "Atti contro natura" (Feltrinelli, 1992), "Il grande caldo" (Ponte alle grazie, 2004), "Soft economy" (Rizzoli, 2005, con Ermete Realacci), "Dark economy" (Einaudi, 2012, con Enrico Fontana), "Ecologia del desiderio" (Aboca, 2017), Un pianeta ad aria condizionata (Aboca, 2019).

E siamo all'ultima pillola per raccontare le giornate del KlimatFest tenutosi dal 2 al 5 Giugno a Milano. Lorena Gridelli di Rethinking Climate ne parla con Tomaso Colombo Responsabile Comunicazione, Relazioni con il Pubblico e Marketing territoriale di Parco Nord che ha ospitato il festival.

A pochi giorni ci attende il KlimatFest a Milano presso il Parco Nord. Un momento di ritrovo tra associazioni, esperti e cittadini per agire per l'azione climatica e trovarsi insieme per capire questa circostanza delicata e molto presente.   

Come mai è importante un ritrovo come il KlimatFest? Ne abbiamo parlato con il Presidente della Consulta delle Associazioni del Parco Nord, Massimo Bricchi. 

Massimo Bricchi è della classe 1967, milanese di nascita e balsamese di adozione. Liceo classico e studi economici all'università. Assicuratore con la passione per la politica e l'associazionismo, che lo ha portato, tramite l'attività con le scuole del territorio, all'interno della Consulta delle Associazioni del Parco Nord Milano, di cui poi è diventato presidente.
