Updating My Chiropractic Business Model in 202011 Mar 202000:52:47
In this podcast session, I'll be covering some of the evolutions I'll be adding to my practice this coming year. I don't expect all of them to work as planned, but I'm willing to give them a shot. I share these thoughts to give you all something to think about as you build your practice to help more people towards independence.   Here are some of the topics:   - Cash vs insurance   - Exam rates   - Solo verse associate experience    - Finding new patients vs. retention of old ones/ base of practice   - Pain verse wellness model + sustainable training   - Cold vs warm leads

Fear Of Movement Conversation04 Mar 202000:51:54

I've had a few patients over the last year I wish I had made this for as they were starting care. The reason being is that being afraid of certain movements (knowingly or not) can create certain types of pain.

Establishing a clear line of communication is helpful to get these patients to their goals. Communication is needed with all relationships but in my experience, these types of cases require a little more trust-building.

Teamwork!

The WHY Of Goals In Training Mike Carthart26 Feb 202001:04:26

Making Touchpoints22 Jan 202000:58:13

Touchpoints are useful in helping patients feel better and I'm not referencing manual therapies. Patients need to know that you're the one who can help them. Many times on the first or second interactions they are not ready to accept your help. It may be the 10th or 20th interaction.

Today I'll unveil some way we create touchpoints in our new patient encounters.

Shoulder Blade Audio Snippet For Patients01 Jan 202000:52:47

One method I use to make more personal touchpoints with possible new patients (people on the fence) are free audios about the problems they mention on the phone or email. These audios cover many of the common questions people have before they book the first exam.

Basically they want to know if I can help and how what I am doing for them is different that things they may have tried... this audio cover it.

Take a listen and see if this method something that can help you in your practice.

Discogenic Low Back Pain Case Study25 Dec 201900:59:35

Discogenic Low Back Pain Case Study

Here's the link for the whole examination/ treatment video that Ben Ramos did with Allie about 2.5 weeks after the onset.

It will be the 4th email of the series

The first will be Dynamic Hip Evaluation, the Dynamic Shoulder Evaluation, Tension Clues & Cues and then this Low back exam case study.

Emails are 1 week apart to give you time to try out the information. Don't worry it will all come

Tension Clues and Clues18 Dec 201901:13:02

In teaching motion, with and without weights, there are clues to see if the lifter's tension is being lost or not. Tension is what protects our body from harm during lifts and loads of the outside world.

Squatting, Deadlifting, Pressing and much more require tension to move the weight and provide a safeguard against aches and pain.

Tension needs to be taught. I'll cover it in this podcast.

Here's the link for the document and the video I mentioned. It will not be the first email you get. It will be the 3rd that comes 14 days after the hip email.

Dynamic Shoulder Evaluation For the Clinician11 Dec 201901:00:16

December is the month of giving, in this podcast episode I put together my clinical pearls of shoulder evaluation from the clinicians.

I've been blessed to have some great mentors in showing me how to test shoulders using the standard orthopedic and ROM testing, yet adding a dynamic aspect to the exam to see beyond reasonable doubt if this person with a shoulder issue will respond well to corrective exercise loading or manual therapy.

This month on the podcast, allow me to give back.

This should work in most cases of:

  • Subacrominal impingement
  • Swimmer's shoulder
  • Tendonitis cases of the rotator cuff
  • Possible grade 1 labrums
  • Upper trap tightness
  • Pain with sleeping on the shoulder
  • Bursitis
  • AMBRI shoulders

Here's the link to access the document and the video I mentioned in the podcast. It will not be the first email you get. It will be the second that comes 7 days after the hip email.

Return To FUN Play18 Sep 201900:45:30

We all have heard about "return to play" but are we really returning our patient to "play" or are we returning them to exercise.

The thing is many people don't really care about exercise itself.

They care about how the exercise makes them feel.

Why not just return them to a playful activity that also accomplishes the same as the boring exercise?

In this podcast, I cover this topic at length.

This will be useful to movement providers as they assist patients to regain a healthily, happy life.

Get More Patients To Book Over The Phone With The Ring-Ring Game07 Aug 201901:04:36

At my office I teach my interns how to play the "ring ring" game. In a nutshell, as chiropractors and physical therapists, we often times we get phone calls from possible new patients asking questions:

How much for a quick adjustment?

Do you take my insurance?

Do you do XYZ soft tissue work?

These patients are really wanting one thing... to feel better. In my interpretation, their questions are based upon what they believe to be barriers to their success, but really the only barriers is themselves.

Listen to this podcast and see what the "ring ring" game is all about and how it can help you succeed in building a new patient base.

Pain Science With Greg Lehman - PRO Chiropractic Online CE Series03 Jul 201900:54:28

Greg Lehman is one of the presenters on the PRO Chiropractic Online CE Series. I was fortunate to have flagged him down from his busy lecturing schedule to get this hour of conversation about Pain Science in! Greg is a chiropractor based out of Canada.

Some of the fine points we go into are:

- building your cup

- fear avoidance behavior

- the pain is just an alarm concept

- his background of how he came to think how he does

- chiropractic as a profession

Greg Lehman Bio:

"Prior to my clinical career I was fortunate enough to receive a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council MSc graduate scholarship that permitted me to be one of only two yearly students to train with Professor Stuart McGill in his Occupational Biomechanics Laboratory subsequently publishing more than 20 peer reviewed papers in the manual therapy and exercise biomechanics field.

I was an assistant professor at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College teaching a graduate level course in Spine Biomechanics and Instrumentation as well conducting more than 20 research experiments while supervising more than 50 students.

I have lectured on a number of topics on reconciling treatment biomechanics with pain science, running injuries, golf biomechanics, occupational low back injuries and therapeutic neuroscience. While I have a strong biomechanics background I was introduced to the field of neuroscience and the importance of psychosocial risk factors in pain and injury management almost two decades ago. I believe successful injury management and prevention can use simple techniques that still address the multifactorial and complex nature of musculoskeletal disorders.

I am active on social media and consider the discussion and dissemination of knowledge an important component of responsible practice."

Within the course on PRO Chiropractic Online CE, he covers the following:

  • HOUR 3 (CE hrs 1): Practical application of pain biology in literature and targeting educational message to person in lumbar spine cases
  • HOUR 4 (CE hrs 1): Improve our skills of delivering key messages to promote healthy behavior and begin cognitive restructuring and addressing unhelpful beliefs with key message of pain biology education in lumbar spine cases

The Riddle of the Asymptomatic Disc: Epigenetic Clues to Chronic Low Back Pain-Dr. Phillip Snell DC

Phillip Snell Bio:

A cum laude graduate of Western States Chiropractic College (now University of Western States) in Portland, Dr. Snell has obtained extensive post-graduate training in the diagnosis, treatment, and case management of automobile-related spine trauma. His practice is focused on sports medicine, using functional assessment and rehab prescription, and is supported by cutting-edge myofascial techniques like Dermal Traction Method, Graston Technique and Stecco Fascial Manipulation. He has also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Western States in their manual therapy department and Sports Medicine Masters degree program.

Dr. Snell keeps up to date with emerging scientific literature to improve his clinical practice, a process known as evidence-based practice. He travels extensively, teaching these methods to other doctors—and continues to add to his own toolbox as he, in turn, learns from the best researchers and teachers in the world. Using a biomechanics mindset, he enjoys the detective work that seeks to resolve stubborn, painful conditions. He then directs his attention to teaching patients how to use corrective exercises to manage their own conditions. His focus on finding the key movement patterns that require correction led him to launch MyRehabExercise.com in 2011. Health care professionals around the world use this website to help teach their own patients functional rehab methods.

As a long-time athlete himself, Dr. Snell has a special appreciation for the needs of athletes as they age and the conditions that prevent them from remaining as active as they desire. Patients can expect not only chiropractic adjustments, but also treatment to address the surrounding muscle and fascial tissues, followed up with thorough rehabilitation exercises. Treatments are tailored to each patient's needs, with special attention directed towards educating the patient on how to reduce future injuries.

Dr. Snell enjoys wintertime snowboarding, and during the warmer months can be found in his garden or hiking and running the beautiful trails in the Portland area with his wife and son.

Chiropractic Ethics - Dr. Ben Ramos DC & Dr. Sebastian Gonzales DC

Ben Ramos Bio:

A California native, Ben Ramos grew up surfing, skateboarding, break dancing, and playing whatever sport was in season. He's a military veteran who served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Pacific Fleet Operations. He has extensive experience working in athletic training rooms with high school, collegiate, amateur and professional athletes. He's also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fanatic with international competition experience.

It was Dr. Ramos' personal experience in surgery and rehab with his own hip injury that lead him to pursue chiropractic care. The cookie-cutter approach, didn't cut it.

"I was extremely displeased and knew there was a better way to do it that catered to the individual and not some one-size-fits-all protocol," says Dr. Ramos, "I wanted to make sure that others didn't have to experience what I went through."

Dr. Ben is a chiropractor and an athlete.  He brings together both his clinical and personal experience in sports medicine and rehabilitation to provide the absolute highest level of care for every patient he sees.  He has a passion for keeping people active and making sure that they are on track to reaching their goals.  He understands what it's like to be injured and knows what it takes to help his patients not only recover, but also continue to improve their abilities during the treatment process.

When he is not treating patients he can be found on the mats practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu and submission grappling, or striving to perfect his kettlebell technique.
