Lily Riley. Cancer Survivor & Record Breaking Powerlifter05 Jun 202101:00:24

She’s one of the strongest women in Australia – Lily Riley has a 235kg squat, over a 200kg deadlift and over a 100kg bench, and she only weighs 75kg herself.

But that’s not why she’s remarkable (though it is impressive).

The 25-year-old also is just over a year out of treatment for stage 2 kidney cancer, with a huge 12cm tumour requiring her to have her entire kidney removed.

Lily talks to Rebuild about how she was diagnosed with cancer the day before a powerlifting competition, how she has adapted to training with one kidney, rebuilt her body and life, and how giving up was never an option.

This breath-taking conversation is one of tribulation, triumph and empowerment as Lily catches the world's attention, by still being the world class powerlifter she is.

How Being Comfortable Could Be Ruining Your Life29 May 202100:52:46

Discomfort is something we as humans avoid, but it’s where change and growth happens. The problem is, we are always comfortable, and thus, we aren’t being challenged or changing.

This week, Sean and James are joined by coach Darius to talk about discomfort and how we can grow and change through putting ourselves into states of discomfort.

We should be seeking out discomfort, from fitness, to relationships, work and education – discomfort is going to help you evolve and adapt.

We expect everything to be easy and a lot of the time, it is. We can live a life of comfort from our homes – with no need to ever really leave. But if we don’t challenge ourselves, we will never reach our full potential.

Tune in to hear how you can challenge yourself, and make the most of your challenges.

How Your Sleep Is Hijacking Your Life & Results 17 Apr 202100:44:20

If you're skipping out on sleep, you will never make proper progress in your health goals.

We’ve spoken about the importance and benefits of sleep on previous podcasts, and this week we take a deep dive into the true impact lack of sleep can have on your health, eating habits, weight-loss or gain, sex drive and mental function.

Sleep is crucial to your overall health, your mental health, recovery, muscle-growth and nutrition adherence so getting enough shut-eye is one of the best things you can do for your body.

We as humans are the only animals in the world that will abstain from sleep for other activities.

James and Sean touch on how you can improve your sleep quality - measures you can take to ensure that your sleep is high quality, help you drift off to sleep faster and some resources to help you wind down at night.

Mick Stuart. You Are Capable Of More 03 Apr 202100:46:48

Mick Stuart at one point, tipped the scales at 150kg - which he attributes to ‘the worst lifestyle ever’. He says he got a wake-up call when his relationship nearly fell apart and he was shopping in the ‘big boys section’ for clothing.

Mick started by walking up a hill by his house - each day, he was walking and running up the hill. He then integrated weights into his routine, and from there, he looked for more. Mick worked every day, and got his weight down to 94kg.

Now, he’s training for an Iron Man (3.9km swim, 180km bike, 42.2km run), regularly participates in ultra-beast (50km) obstacle courses, is a qualified trainer and last year, he did a 24-hour challenge where he did burpees, ran on a treadmill and rode the air-bike all with a blindfold on - for the entire 24 hours. There was no music or distractions, It was all to raise awareness and money for Mates for Mates - that helps people transition out of the Defence Force.

On this week's podcast, we speak to Mick about his journey to health and how he's now helping others.

Is The Balance Of Your Life Leading To Happiness?13 Feb 202100:46:20

This week’s podcast is about finding balance - and what that means to you.

Too often the health industry is perceived as all or nothing - but it’s not that black and white; it’s a spectrum. It’s time to throw away the stereotypes and assumptions of what you ‘should’ be doing.

You don’t have to sacrifice your social life and mental wellbeing, crash diet or forgo the things you love to get results. It’s about ‘restraint - not restriction’.

It’s knowing your priorities/values and working on them - and maintaining a healthy balance.

Things We Have Said, Things We Have Heard And Things We Have Changed Our Mind On. Plus How To Know If You’re Making Progress.06 Feb 202100:47:04

This week Sean and I talk through some of the stupid shit we use to say, stupid stuff we use to believe it and things we have changed our minds on.

We must know that everything is learned, and just how we learn it we can unlearn it or at least change of view of it. That is growth.

“If anyone can refute me—show me I’m making a mistake or looking at things from the wrong perspective—I’ll gladly change. It’s the truth I’m after, and the truth never harmed anyone.” – Marcus Aurelius

Some of the things we have said, blow our minds and this makes for a very interested and fun episode.

We also discuss how to know if you are making progress and the methods you should and shouldn't use when attaching objective and subjective measurements to them.

To know if we are improving, we must understand where we are.

The State Of The Dieting Industry, Challenge Culture & Your Values 30 Jan 202100:32:16

This week we dive deep into the state of the dieting industry, challenge culture and the values/worth we attach to ourselves.

We are not against dieting, we have a business for the sole purpose of it, but we do beleive the fact that people shouldn’t be living trying to diet year after year.

But what causes us to think this way? What causes us to live in a state of yo-yo dieting, challenge culture or looking for the next best thing to control our weight?

Why do people want to diet in the first place? Is this something they want or it is something they believe they should?

 If so why?

Enjoy the episode, this is a cracker and we hope by the end of it you’re at least thinking differently about ‘dieting.

Justin Bennetts, The Journey Of Brazilian Jujitsu Black Belt. 09 Jan 202100:54:23

This week James was very fortunate to be  joined by Justin Bennetts a Brazilian Jujitsu Black Belt and owner of The Agoge Brazilian Jujitsu in Bulimba.

To become a black belt in BJJ you need to dedicate on average over 10 years to the craft, and even if you do dedicate a decade it does not mean you will be a black belt.

There are not many BJJ black belts on this planet and I think how special and rare it is when looking from the outside is very overlooked.

We talk through Justin's journey to black belt, the importance of the lessons BJJ teaches and why he quit his job as an electrical engineer to become a business owner and follow his passion of teaching BJJ.

Brazilian jujitsu can teach you everything you need to know about life and it something I have found love for myself.

You are never too old to try this art. Everyone is capable to give it a go regardless of experience, regardless of physicality, regardless of your past.

If you are a parent and are unsure what sport to start your kids in, here could be the answer.

Enjoy this episode and thank you Justin for your time.

Supplements. The Why, When and What. 21 Nov 202000:44:25

This week the boys talk about the somewhat confusing space that is supplements. Everyone is out there selling their favourite supplements on social media (for money) and the majority just have no backing or research what so ever.

Today we cut through shit and tell you the why, what and when take of any worth while supplements backed by research.

Being backed by research should be an absolute must when looking into supplements. 'I took it and it worked for me' is not evidence.

We talk supplements for health and supplements for performance as well as answering the question do any fat loss supplements actually exist?

This weeks podcast will inspire many people. From people who are on their journey of rediscovery, people who haven't even started yet, to people who don't believe it's possible.

We were joined by Megan Francis a member of Rebuild Health and Fitness who over the past 3 years has taken herself from obese and unhappy to never thinking about body fat and what she believes is a much happier, healthier, stronger role model for her children.

Megan has worked hard and deserved every bit of credit. Megan has done a total flip of her life, she's created the habits and lifestyle she wants and is now on a journey of performance in the gym and in her personal life.

As Meg's will say, it's not always been an easy ride but 'the time is going to pass anyway so you may as well do something with it'

We speak about
