How true are the movies that claim they are 'based on a true story'? Lewis and Elliot join us today from their award winning movie podcast to delve into how they decided on this great concept and to talk through some of their favourite stories and anecdotes from all their research. But first we discuss Alan Partridge.

130: Best & Worst Movies of 2025 with Peter29 Dec 202502:15:39

125: [Guest 48] Marina Selega - First Assistant Camera on Movie Sets24 Nov 202501:04:05

We discuss behind the scenes stories on movie sets and when Kev and Marina briefly worked together on a couple of film projects. Marina talks about her passion for the job, as well as the pressures that also come in this high paced industry, alongside the difficulty faced and overcome of often being the only female in the crew which has changed over the last 10 years. Her main role is the Focus Puller which is a highly skilled and critical job, as errors in focus can be expensive to reshoot. We discuss how to get into the industry and how important this role is for the overall feel and visual language of any movie. We also look into her fun fashion sense and the satisfaction and benefits that working in the movie industry provides.

[Spoiler Review 16] Terminator 2: Judgment Day14 Apr 202501:12:11

T2 is back in the cinema which prompts this discussion as it is a classic 90s action movie and the quintessential Schwarzenegger performance. We have all seen it so many times but we were too young to see in the cinema first time round. Kev managed to catch it recently on the big screen which reignites all the 90s childhood memories of watching this when we were too young. We feel this is even better than we remember and not just a standard action movie, it is so much more.

119: [Guest 45] Clint & Stretch from Prevailing Strange Podcast in Australia - WARNING Adult Themes13 Oct 202501:29:02

James is a big fan of this podcast so we invited them on to see who could say the most inappropriate jokes. I think we all lost! This episode has severe teasing and occasional bad language with questionable themes so please listen with caution and even less judgement than usual. This was a treat to let loose and be silly but don't worry the main themes are still movies and TV shows and we have a few serious conversations. Stories about Tattoos, Bluey, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Street Fighter, Animated Movies, the Alien Universe, Jack Reacher and Charlie Sheen.

103: [Guest 33] Kirstie Warren - Movie Reviewer, Radio DJ and fan of Marvel, Disney & Eurovision23 Jun 202501:22:38

Kirstie runs an Instagram page called 'Kirstie's Weekly Revue' which has insightful and funny reviews of new movies. She with Kev and Rage Whale take part in a friendly online community of movie reviewers who talk and share thoughts in respectful ways. We discuss her thoughts on recent releases of 2025 and then about her job as a Radio DJ for Radio Warrington especially with Eurovision 2025 currently happening. Kirstie is very charismatic and funny leading to some great conversations around Marvel, Trailers, Nostalgia and the emotional and controversial scenes in Disney Cartoons.

Ep 48: [Guest 6: Emma] We go deep and talk mental health, lockdown & Inside Out 201 Aug 202401:06:43

This is a special episode today as our guest Emma is interested in psychology, therapy, philosophy and social media/marketing which gives today a new vibe. With her subtle expertise she gets all 3 of us to open up about things we wouldn't have normally mentioned and makes us comfortable to be vulnerable and share some interesting stories. Some deep conversations but always with our trademark levity at times. Kev met up with Emma recently and she convinced him to go to the cinema to see Inside Out 2 which has hidden messages for the viewer that are actually PHD level therapy explained to younger viewers. This was an enjoyable time spent with the fun yet calming influence of our guest.

Ep 47: Twisters, Fluff, Argos Toys & Corruption29 Jul 202401:08:47

This episode sucks, quite literally as Kev and James explain the ways they used a hoover today, exciting stuff eh? We start talking about toys and decent into memories of Woolworths and Argos where Drew worked as a teenager, he was privileged to have seen the mystical Argos warehouse, apparently it doesn't resemble Santas Grotto as we all expected when we were children. The cinematic summer blockbuster is here, but is it any good? Twisters impressed all around, even Tom Cruise is a massive fan. We end discussing corruption and The Beatles make a short appearance, can you name the album before these guys?

Ep 18: Questions from the Audience, Jake Gyllenhaal top 511 Apr 202401:03:57

Kev puts out a last minute post on social media asking for some questions to be asked on the record that evening about movies or anything random they want to ask. This drives the majority of our conversation in this episode providing lots of laughs with us discussing a variety of different things from Dad Jokes to our early memories around movies.

EP 61: Beetlejuice 2, afrAId, Rebel Ridge & a Beatles weekend in Liverpool16 Sep 202401:05:43

Kev is recovering from a weekend away in Liverpool with friend JD where they did Beatles tourist things such as visiting their houses, going to an exhibition and a pub crawl in the famous Mathew Street ending with Live Music in the Cavern. We mainly discuss the new Beetlejuice movie which has had mixed reviews as well as the new Blumhouse Horror movie afrAId and new Netflix movie Rebel Ridge. All that and the usual jokes and arguments.

Ep 23: Spilling Beer, New Trailers that ignite the chat & The hunt for the age of Emmanuel Bonami29 Apr 202401:00:59

We start with the calamity of Kev attempting to open a can of beer which ends in a mess. Once we are composed again we discuss all the many trailers that have been released over the last couple of weeks but as usual James gets distracted, this time about a French Actor who appears to be an enigma.

Ep 24: Questions from the audience, Back To Black, Pet, Spider-Verse02 May 202401:08:44

We flip the conversation in-between questions in from the audience and doing Movie reviews. We discuss an old film, a new film and the film from last year that has been mentioned the most on this podcast as Kev finally gets to see it because it returned to IMAX. The questions from Jo brings us to some random subjects and we find the connection between Jesus and the hunt for an actor we mentioned in episode 23.

Ep 88: Kevs Birthday, Drinking Games, A Complete Unknown, & David Lynch27 Jan 202501:18:21

Today's episode marks a full year since we started recording Rage Whale. It's Kevs Birthday and he tells us about his weekend in London, gigs, a massage and predictably the cinema. We discuss the Netflix release of Cocaine Bear which we highly recommend and delve into many different drinking games. We bring up Biopics as Kev had just come back from seeing the brilliant Bob Dylan movie 'A Complete Unknown'. We end with a chat about the sad news of the death of David Lynch, a true master of cinema.

Ep 36: [Guest 3: Michael] Kevs cousins first appearance discussing Furiosa & Accents 13 Jun 202401:00:57

It's another Special guest, this time it's Kevs cousin Michael from Glasgow that joins us. He is a movie buff and has also been in the movie business as an actor. He is a big inspiration for Kev when he was growing up, influencing his taste in martial arts and getting into specific types of movies. We have all been to the cinema this week to watch Furiosa and had a great time with it so we all discussed what we enjoyed and then deviated onto answering Gareths questions regarding accents.

Ep 90: [Guest 25: Peter] Oscar nominations & Snubs, Movie News & Companion10 Feb 202501:17:53

Peter from New Jersey joins us again today to discuss the Oscars nominations. We delve into some detail on the main films up for the awards and who we predict will win compared to who we believe should win. We also discuss the snubs and debate between ourselves on who deserves the recognition. But before that we have some movie news to discus to discuss the new movie Companion which Kev and Peter saw this week. But during the conversation there is one clear winner of the Oscars but will it be as recognised as we think it should be? I think we need to be ready for some disappointment! We'll have to wait till March to find out.

Ep 33: Gigs, Movie News, Complaining and Taylor-Joy/Hemsworth back catalogue03 Jun 202401:13:42

Drew starts us off on a disturbing topic which makes us laugh with disgust. Kev is off to a gig this week and he shows us an old photo from 2004 which was the last time he saw the band live. We discuss Movie News as usual but not before complaining about cinema snacks and noisy eaters. James is appalled by a tiny Apple Pie and Kev is appalled at the age of Chris Hemsworth. We discuss previous films of Chris Hemsworth and Any Taylor-Joy as we're off to see Furiosa the following day.

[Spoiler Review 10] The Substance - It's themes highlighting societal expectations13 Feb 202501:15:58

We discuss the most talked about movie of 2024 and it's still a hot topic and highly relevant. This movie is a feast for the eyes with the exceptional cinematography, colour pallet, editing style and impressive directing by a Coralie Fargeat, the only female director who is nominated for an Oscar in a category full of men and we all agree deserves to win. The only problem is that horror films don't do well at the Oscars but hopefully things are about to change. This is the rebirth of Demi Moore showing how talented and brave she is with what this role demands, the risk was huge and now it's time for the reward. This isn't a surface level horror, this taps into the real world issues with societal expectations, and how we treat people, especially women who are getting older, but the themes can relate to everyone.

Ep 41: A Quiet Place: Day One, Bikeriders, Glastonbury & Knuckle Dusters08 Jul 202401:07:19

James shows us 'The Stick' song, if you know you know. A brief mention of Glastonbury and Mental Health which we would love to explore more in future episodes and we wonder if Drew's Wife has listened to the Pod. Kev and Drew have been to the cinema with their partners this week to watch 'A Quiet Place: Day One' & 'The Bikeriders' so we discuss our thoughts in some detail. We both think these cinema releases were mostly outstanding.

Kev reviews the new film he saw at the cinema: Drive Away Dolls which is connected to the Tarantino universe so James tests his knowledge with the Tarantino Quiz. Kev returns the favour and does a quiz for James about his favourite subject, Superheros. Who will be the winner?

124: [Deep Dive 4] Emma Stone: Personal Life, Awards, favourite performances & movies17 Nov 202500:51:13

Today we delve into the life and career of Emma Stone, touching on her struggles in growing up and to why she got into acting. We talk through her movies and roles as they changes from supporting actor to becoming the lead in many huge films as well as the awards she has received. She has been in a variety of genres, from rom-coms, comedy, action, super hero and more recently being the Muse of Yorgos Lanthimos' strange and impressive visual world of cinema. Lots to talk about here, we hope you enjoy this conversation.

Ep 53: Borderlands, Our Podcast Analytics, Disney Announcements & The Olympics Closing Ceremony 19 Aug 202401:11:58

We let you guys know about our analytics regarding all the countries that listen to this Podcast from Australia to USA and we welcome anyone listening to contact us to be a guest. This week there were huge announcements from Disney regarding new movies and anticipated sequels as well as other movie news from Hulk Hogan to Spinal Tap. In the week the Olympics had their closing ceremony we all went to see the new movie Borderlands and give it a review which divides our opinions.

Ep 48: [Guest 6: Emma] BONUS Being positive & being appreciated with our therapist guest02 Aug 202400:49:12

The second part of our conversation with Emma where she turns the tables on us and asks us why we started the Podcast and rather than the usual flippant comment we actually discuss the benefits and how it's been a positive in our lives. We forget Emma is our guest and act like she is a therapist and we have to tell her about our thoughts and we want to show willingness to be truthful. The Podcast wouldn't exist if Emma didn't as she was the initial spark and catalyst into making this happen, so she is an important element of this project and we hope to have her back again soon. We hope you enjoy our openness and the frank discussions which is not the usual style of the show. We are nervous and excited to release this episode.

Ep 39: Teddy's Twerking, Bad Boys, Weird Al & Wesley Snipes01 Jul 202401:07:17

We start by listening to 'Across 110th Street' by Bobby Womack on Vinyl from the 'Jackie Brown' soundtrack. James is substituted by M. Night Teddy Bear who loves to dance and who has seen the Pope in the woods. This is our return after a week of illness and we discuss a couple of films we have recently seen but especially Bad Boys as that was the last movie we saw in the cinema. We also go down a Wesley Snipes rabbit hole which brings up a lot of memories of great films.

Ep 99: New Merch and we all meet up for a Photoshoot in London26 May 202500:57:23

We talk through our photoshoot day. The first time we've seen each other in person for many years. We have incredible photographer and previous guest (Ep 91) Daniel Pitts meet us in Waterloo to start our day taking group photos throughout London. Kev surprises the gang with Merch, our logo on some t-shirts and hoodies which we end up modelling. Our first guest and biggest fan Gareth joins us to help and we meet other friends later in the day, including previous guest (Ep 38) Shed/Sara for a heavy evening of drinks in Camden. This was such a fun day just getting see see each other properly, joke around and go play Crazy Golf at Lane 7 in Victoria.

Please get your Merch at https://ragewhale.teemill.com

Ep 30: News, Cats, Dates & A Heated Debate23 May 202401:14:40

We discuss the latest Movie News and get distracted by cats. James has an upcoming date so we try to find out the plan. Kev tells us about a unique movie experience regarding '10 Rillington Place' which he forgets the name of during the show. We give our weekly recommendations of what to watch and what not to watch and end on a heated debate bringing up Baby Reindeer again and also do the worst Scouse accents you've ever heard.

Ep 52: [Guest 7: Gareth & Chris] We discuss growing up together, movies in each decade & Deadpool 15 Aug 202400:58:47

Special Guests Gareth and Chris join together after seeing Deadpool recently. We discuss the movie briefly but not before James manages to take the piss out of them before they get a chance to talk. Kev asks Gareth about his first impressions and earliest memories of knowing us 3 which gives us some fun stories and a chance for James to continue making light of every conversation. Gareth gives us a reenactment of his experience at a 4DX cinema and Chris tells of his love of the original animated Transformers movie all while drinking Pina Colada and wearing a t-shirt with an Arse Penguin on it. Then we hand over to Gareth to take control and ask us about movies we love from each decade from the 80s onwards where we find out Drew is the opposite of Rain Man because he keeps mentioning movies from the incorrect decade.

Ep 46: The Batman, New Trailers, Silly then Serious ending with an audience question from Poet Dani25 Jul 202401:27:12

We get a nice little 'Random Fact' from Drew to start with as we discuss that 'The Batman' has just been released for Free on Prime. We discuss the many new trailers that have dropped in the past week such as Gladiator 2, Paddington, Agatha, The Substance, Strange Darling and we argue over if Steve Rogers in Captain America is Dead or not and apparently The Red Hulk being Harrison Ford is news to Drew. We also talk about the rumour of new films coming soon or that are about to start filming such as The Devil Wears Prada 2, If Follows 2 and Mission Impossible 8.

Then, there is a nice little interlude. We end with James dropping off early which leaves Kev and Drew slightly tipsy being silly discussing Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Matthew McConaughey and Herbert the Pervert. We end on a lovely note with an audience question from Dani.

Ep 45: Triple Horror week, Trump Shooting, video games22 Jul 202401:13:28

Lots has happened this week including the Euro finals, an attempted assassination of Trump (This is Ep 45 and Trump was the 45th President... coincidence much!), a new Eminem album and 3 of the most talked about Horror Movies of the year released in the cinema. We discuss MaXXXine, Long Legs and In A Violent Nature finally. Kev has seen them all but they weren't all in every cinema across the UK which was a disappointment for James and Drew. Some of us praise the independent filmmakers and companies such as a24 and NEON for pushing boundaries and giving movie goers unique, fresh and brave movie concepts (even if they don't always succeed at the box office) as opposed to the big companies mainly feeding us sequels and safe content.

[Deep Dive 1] Colin Farrell07 Apr 202501:05:42

Welcome to our first 'Deep Dive' episode where we pick an actor, director, genre, year etc to discuss in detail. Today we discuss the charismatic Colin Farrell. It's an interesting chat as he has a varied personal life from charity to rehab and a range of movies where you can see his growth through the years. Even in his early career he worked with high calibre actors and directors and we all agree where his strengths are which we want to see more of. We also let you know about what new movies he has started production on.

Ep 42: 3 Shades of Grey discuss Movie News, Kinds of Kindness & the Horrors out in cinema next week11 Jul 202401:27:18

A bumper Movie News episode and there's lots to discuss: From new trailers, recent releases and rumours. We accidentally all arrive on screen wearing grey, the most boring of all the colours, or is it the most provocative? Definitely boring! We discuss 'The Bear' which was released this week, one of the most exceptional series in recent history. Also bring up Tilda Swinton who has this week both been asleep in an Art Installation as well as raving with Orbital at Glastonbury. Kevin discusses the disappointingly pretentious 'Kinds Of Kindness' that he was hoping to love as much as 'Poor Things' but it wasn't to be. We then discuss what we are looking forward to over the next 2 weeks with 3 potentially groundbreaking Horrors that sound like they have the potential to be classics if the hype is real. Fingers crossed.

Ep 37: Medicated & Off Topic. Sting, Hitman, Sick, Politics & Religion24 Jun 202401:08:11

None of us are feeling well but you wouldn't know it from this week's episode. Though the following week it caught up hard. We discuss a cinema movie and a new Netflix movie briefly and end up going into subjects we promised we wouldn't.

EP 60: Kev & James do top 10 lists & discuss classic movies that were originally panned by critics12 Sep 202401:05:52

Drew was unable to be in this episode so Kev & James take the reins. They discuss top 10 lists for M. Night Shyamalan Movies (from The Sixth Sense to TRAP), Goth Movies (from The Crow to The Addams Family) and Classic Movies that were originally panned by Critics (from Alien to Home Alone). The latter subject forces us to go a little deeper on these classic movies and discuss how important the after sales of VHS was in the evolution of the movie industry.

Ep 36: [Guest 3: Michael] BONUS: The Crow, Tarantino and what we're looking forward to in the future14 Jun 202400:46:58

We had to spend more time with Michael as the conversation was flowing and we also decide we want to have him back as a regular featured guest. This is the 2nd half of our episode with our special guest Michael who introduced The Crow to Kev back in the 90s when he showed him all the Brandon Lee and Bruce Lee movies. Very few people know more about The Crow than Michael so we dig deep on one of the greatest movies to ever exist. We also discuss other subjects including Tarantino movies and then what new movies that are coming out in the future that we are really looking forward to seeing.

Today we discuss the new trailers we have seen recently such as Predator: Badlands, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Weapons, Now You See Me: Now You Don' t and The new A24 movie starring The Rock called The Smashing Machine which looks like his first serious role that could be award worthy. We also discuss movies and series from our childhood we would love to see rebooted with the same cast which brings us to Ryan Cooglers announcement that he is bringing back The X-Files which we are excited about. We end by discussing Sinners, the new movie Ryan Coogler wrote and directed starring Michael B Jordan, Jack O'Conell and Hailee Steinfeld.

Ep 49: Olympics, Crime, Brutality & Controversy with a slice of Movie News05 Aug 202401:22:40

We all saw the fun elements and the controversial parts of the Olympics opening Ceremony in France and Kev is wearing a band T-shirt and playing a vinyl of the highlight for him that seemed to bypass everyone else. The French metal band Gojira did an outstanding job. We somehow take an hour to get fully onto the subject of movies as this topic brings us onto other controversial subjects, crime and violence in the world and we can't help ourselves by stating our opinions. Just a reminder that these are our (often un researched in detail) thoughts on the subjects. We end with James telling us of some good and terrible films he saw recently and the big news of the week regarding Dr Doom and other Marvel news. We also discuss exciting New Trailers, The Boys and something frustrating about Cobra Kai.

Kev and James watch Godzilla X Kong at the cinema and Drew wasn't able to make it, but the only persons opinion we are looking to hear from is Reef (James' 5 year old son) who gives it a big thumbs up and we agree. Is Ghostbusters worth discussing? Listen to find out.

Ep 57: Alien Romulus Review, New Rage Whale Music & The Predator is in Cornwall 02 Sep 202401:09:47

James is back and we discuss recent news but not before you hear our new music intro. Kev and Drew directed some concepts but it was Drews genius brother Doug who managed to turn the ideas into an impressive theme tune for this podcast. We discuss the big summer blockbuster Alien Romulus and go into detail but as ever we go off the rails.

[Spoiler Review 11] Prisoners20 Feb 202501:02:40

We start as usual with discussing the Zeitgeist of 2013, the year this incredible movie was released and a movie related poem from 'Tales Of The Nook' (Drew). We delve into the movie in detail: Discussing the actors, the plot, the director as well as the dark themes involved with this movie. We talk about the actors that were originally asked to play these roles, some behind the scenes information and interesting facts and errors in the story.

Ep 59: [Guest 11: Elijah Baker] Actor from The Batman; we talk auditions and his love of movies 09 Sep 202402:16:30

Kev worked with Elijah Baker a few years back on a short film called 'Ethel' when he was the Stills Photographer. It starred Elijah, Miriam Margolyes, Professor Green and was Produced by 'Three Wise Monkeys'. Kev even had a small role in the film playing 'Shifty Lad 2'. You can find the Short on Youtube. Elijah is full of life and you can see and hear the pure joy he has in discussing movies and the industry. We discuss strange auditions and Drew also being an actor adds to the strangeness. It was so much fun speaking to Elijah that we ended up talking longer than expected and we will arrange a sequel as we have so much more to discuss. Elijah is knowledgeable and a huge fan of cinema from martial arts to comedy and everything in-between.

This is a fun conversation finding out about what Leigh is currently watching, what his favourite series have been this year and the series and movies he is looking forward to later this year.

Ep 80: Golden Globe Predictions for Movies. Shout Outs and Spotify Wrapped16 Dec 202401:09:34

Kev is hungover but battling through it as we have some important shout outs to do from the recent Spotify Wrapped showing we have some top fans that we truly appreciate. A few new films have been announced and Kneecap takes the Win for the Best British film (when it's an Irish film) at the British Independent Film Awards which we totally agree with. Golden Globe nominees get announced so we go through the categories to make out predictions. We will then revisit after the 5th Jan so see who wins most accurately.

Ep 40: A Euphoric James, Vampires, The Boys, UK Accents & Donald Sutherland04 Jul 202401:18:10

The new Blade film is having issues being made so we reflect on all the other Vampire Movies we love and hate. Then we discuss the new series of 'The Boys' still hitting us hard with the gore and disgusting scenes whilst being entertaining and thought provoking. Kev's friend JD is messaging him from a gig he should be at but was too ill to go and Kate messages about a mannequin dilemma and we discuss her sexy, sombrero wearing Roomba. We reflect on Gareths question from last week on Drew doing accents but focussing on the UK as he preferred. We end with a heated debate but luckily James has great news with the football that drastically changes the mood in the closing moments of the episode.
