Quite often, people think the coordination of traffic signals on the main corridors of Port St. Lucie means they'll hit a green light every time, but that's not the case.

There's a new police chief in town and his name is Leo Niemczyk.

It's hard to imagine Port St. Lucie without the majestic Crosstown Parkway Bridge, which spans the beautiful North Fork of the St. Lucie River. But after 40 years, and a few bumps in the road, the bridge finally opened to traffic Sept. 28, 2019, and the City has a lot to celebrate.

There also are two public hearings, Sept. 9 and Sept. 23, where residents can share their opinions or concerns about the budget. 

Public participation in budgeting helps build trust between the City and its residents, and increases legitimacy and credibility in financial matters.

We're finally putting the Port in Port St. Lucie!

On average, eight people are killed and 49 are seriously injured on Florida’s roads every day. In the majority of those crashes, driver behavior is a contributing factor. 

On Episode 24, we chat with Katie Kehres, the Florida Department of Transportation's District Four safety administrator, about Target Zero, a statewide initiative to reduce the number of transportation-related serious injuries and deaths across Florida to zero. 

Target Zero focuses on identifying behaviors that contribute to crashes and understanding why those behaviors occurred, identifying the specific target audience and creating impactful messages to influence safe driving. It focuses on influencing change in these specific behaviors before they occur.

Youth Councils represent the views of young people at a local level. Run by young people for young people, they give youth their age a voice and enable them to make their views heard in the decision-making process.

Have you ever wanted a first-hand look into City operations? City University is the way to do it.

On Episode 53, Makenzie Spittler, assistant manager, engagement and budget in the Communications Department, talks about City U, a free nine-session course that gives residents an opportunity to learn about City departments, talk with City leaders and officials and connect with other residents just as interested in making our City a better place.

Once you graduate from City U, you also can apply to become a City Ambassador, which empowers local residents to act as representatives of the City, helping to spread important information, engage with the community and support City initiatives.

The Citizen Summit is one of the most important events at the City of Port St. Lucie. It allows residents to receive in-depth information about the City’s Strategic Plan and also provide input on the plan’s seven goals. 

In a nutshell, it gives them an opportunity to shape the future of their city.

Significant progress has been made in 2023 regarding the City's goal of making Port St. Lucie an exceptional community that is truly the Heart of the Treasure Coast. Insurance Services Office ratings score a fire department’s ability to protect the community. On Episode 11, St. Lucie County Fire District Division Chief Chad Crouse and Mayor Shannon Martin break down the Fire District’s Class 2 rating and what it means for Port St. Lucie residents, including how the score could get lower insurance rates for homeowners. It depends on a lot of factors such as income level, population and whether the company is in an expansion mode. Early concepts and surveys for Torino Regional Park were designed and permitted in 2007, but because of the Great Recession, plans were put on hold. Fast forward 16 years and -- building on what was learned during the initial design -- the project team is full steam ahead with what would be the City’s first regional park. On Episode 6, Maureen talks with Parks Administrator Kelly Boatwright about the master plan, design and next steps for the 200-acre park. Kelly also shares feedback from residents about what they want to see there, including a playground, a pump track, paved trails, nature trails, water features, a dog park and more.
