Podcast companies are buying short podcast plays within mobile game apps, causing official downloads of shows no one may be playing longer than twenty seconds according to Bloomberg's Ashley Carman. Time has also published the story outside a paywall.
- Players get game tokens if they listen to a podcast for just twenty seconds. (Carman posts a graphic). But, because more than 60 seconds of audio are downloaded by the player, as demonstrated in this article in Sounds Profitable, these plays count as an IAB-certified download from podcast hosts and in prefix services like Podtrac. That allows podcasts promoted in this way to charge for the ads delivered in the show, and for that traffic to be counted in rankers
How many downloads per episode is “good”? Omny Studio publish their data.

Spotify launch audiobooks, it costs extra. Acast layoff 15% seeking profitability. Transistor.fm supports the Open Podcast Prefix Project. Ivy.fm supports multiple Podcast Index Namespace tags. RSS Blue supports Alby and Fountain digital wallets.

Spotify is the top podcast network in the US based on reach, according to new data from Edison Research.
Spotify now has separate home feeds for Music and Podcasts & Shows!
Audiobooks are coming to Spotify “reasonably soon”, according to CFO Paul Vogel.

2. Alby

Alby has launched an analytics website for Value 4 Value, the podcast funding method from the Podcast Index. The website, called SATurn, gives a full view of payments made on the Value 4 Value system and interfaces with your Alby wallet. It's free to use, and includes a live feed much like Helipad.
