From Stem Cell Therapy to Hormone Therapy, the Future is Now!

Season 1 · Episode 18

mardi 3 septembre 2024Duration 31:01

What if you had access to your own healthy stem cells, but from a version of you 20, 30 or even 60 years earlier?  Stem cells that had the potential to fight diseases you're current self is dealing with... or with skin restoration... or hair loss?

It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but this is a new reality, and it's here! Now!

Dr. Frank Dos Santos has joined me on the pod again. For those that didn't see his previous appearances, I would encourage you to go back and watch or listen.  Dr. Dos Santos is the Chief Medical Officer at RWJ Barnabas Healthy. Previously, he was the Chief Medical Officer for the US Navy East, where he was responsible for Global DOD healthcare spanning four continents, and prior to that, he was a Navy and Marine Corps Emergency Medical Service Leader.

In this episode, we talk about adult stem cell banking.  It's right around the corner, and updates will be coming SOON with specific details on how you can help protect your own health and the health of your family in the future with this safe, simple procedure.  It's literally just a blood draw!

Other topics we dive into in this episode include:

- Myostatin and muscle growth

- Exosomes for hair growth

- Bioidentical hormone therapy

- The effects of protein powders on liver function

- And more!

Observing High and Low Performance in the World Around Us

Season 1 · Episode 17

mardi 6 août 2024Duration 11:42

The subject of physical and cognitive performance is what everyone is talking about right now.  Maybe not overtly, but the headlines grabbing the news are the Olympics in Paris, and President Joe Biden ending his campaign for re-election. The centerpiece of both is about performance.

Maybe not overtly, but when people watch the Olympics, they're observing athletes at the peak of human physical performance, and noticing how the difference between medaling and not can come down to the smallest differences in this performance.

The discussion surrounding President Biden's re-election campaign has been largely centered around his cognitive performance.  With former President Trump just three years younger, it was less about the actual age and much more about the physical and cognitive performance.

The bottom line is that there are real-world consequences for maintaining, or not maintaining, high performance.  I've often talked about the four pillars of healthy aging: high performance physical function, high performance cognitive ability, high performance immune function and youthful aesthetics.

Each plays an important role in not the years we live, but the way we engage with the world. In this episode, I talk about some of the ways that people can maintain high performance and some of the cutting edge science that is starting to be explored to help people do so.  Enjoy the episode!

Is Growing Human Bone the Future of Skeletal Repair

Season 1 · Episode 8

mardi 30 avril 2024Duration 30:21

We may not be far off from the end of hip and knee replacements, at least if this week's guest has anything to say about it. Nina Tandon is the co-founder and CEO of EpiBone, a biotech company that grows bone and cartilage for skeletal reconstruction. Under her leaderhip, EpiBone has raised millions in investor funding and conducted the first human implantations of bones grown from stem cells.

In this episode, Nina talks about the process of growing bones from stem cells, and the importance of bone and cartilage repair BEFORE they've deteriorated.  The regenerative approach to this process is fascinating.

This was an insightful discussion, and in addition to biotech advancements, we dug into the challenges startups in this space face, why New Jersey is seeing so many startups in biotech, and the importance of exposing more young women to STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) studies at a young age.

Talking with people like Nina keep me inspired about the future of medicine, biotechnology and human longevity.  I hope you enjoy the episode.

Why We're Losing the War on Cancer

Season 1 · Episode 7

lundi 22 avril 2024Duration 30:01

Why are we so far away from finding a cure for different types of cancer? Do tests run on mice have any relevance to the efficacy on people? Is the medical community getting it all wrong and where has cancer treatment failed the patient?

My guest today is Dr. Azra Raza, the Chan Soon Professor of Medicine and Clinical Director of the Edward P. Evans Foundation MDS Center at Columbia University in New York.  She is a practicing oncologist, seeing 30-40 cancer patients weekly, and has dedicated her life to the prevention of all chronic diseases, including cancer, through early detection. Her latest book, "THE FIRST CELL: And the Human Costs of Pursuing Cancer to the Last" is a national bestseller and has been translated into nine languages.

In this episode, she speaks to some of the inefficiencies the medical community creates in the treatment and fight against cancer, the human cost of cancer treatment and even dives into the connection between medicine and poetry.  This was an incredibly fun, informative, and intense discussion and I know you're going to enjoy it and learn a lot.

The Secret To Delaying Aging

Season 1 · Episode 6

lundi 15 avril 2024Duration 25:36

Let's explore aging, and what some of the advances in the delay - and someday even reversal - of aging could entail.  It's interesting, but the biology of aging mirrors the biology of cancer.  As we learn more about the advances in the prevention, delay or reversal of cancer, we are - in effect - learning about about these same things in aging.  It's possible stem cells could hold the secret.

In this episode, we'll discuss:

➡️ How the body is like a computer, and why stem cells can "reboot" your system with a perfect copy of our biological software.

➡️ Why cancer in pregnant mothers doesn't spread to the fetus.

➡️ The hallmarks of healthy aging.

➡️ The importance of preserving muscle tissue and how it affects the way we age.

➡️ And more!

Will This Revolutionize Healthcare?

lundi 8 avril 2024Duration 30:48

Every day, hospitals are literally throwing away a treasure trove of natural resources that have potential life-saving possibilities.  I'm talking about the placenta, and the placental stem cells contained within.

What makes placental stem cells unique? In this important episode, I talk about:

➡️ Therapeutic and commercial opportunities that placental stem cells provide.

➡️ The adaptive nature of the placenta, and why a woman's body doesn't reject a fetus in the case of surrogate pregnancies - or even natural pregnancies when you consider half of the DNA of the fetus is not from the mother.

➡️ What makes placental stem cell therapies more accessible than organ transplants.

➡️ What this all potentially means for your long-term health and wellness.

How To Be The CEO Of Your Own Health

Season 1 · Episode 4

mardi 2 avril 2024Duration 24:17

"The health insurance model, the hospital model, the doctor's office model is all predicated on the sicker you are, the more money the system makes. And right now we don't pay doctors to keep you healthy unless you are fortunate enough that you can afford a functional medicine doctor. So the system has to change." - Dr. William Kapp

In this episode, Dr. William Kapp explains some of the flaws in the current health care system, and how people are taking back control of their own health.  He also speaks to the successes and advances that are happening at Fountain Life, a private center for precision diagnostics, where he is the CEO.

Dr. Kapp is an entrepreneur who has founded several healthcare start-ups, ranging from surgical centers and hospitals to electronic health record systems and medical real estate developments. As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, former USAF Flight Surgeon, and type-rated jet aircraft pilot, Dr. Kapp has a unique combination of medical expertise and aviation knowledge.

He is dedicated to advancing the new healthcare paradigm that focuses on the detection and reversal of asymptomatic diseases.

A Cellular Approach to Age-Related Diseases

Season 1 · Episode 3

lundi 25 mars 2024Duration 22:49

What is the root cause of many age-related diseases?  Cellular senescence happens when a healthy, functioning cell ceases to divide, but doesn’t die. Senescent cells can accumulate, and their synthetic behavior can become erratic. As they begin to function in abnormal ways, they can lead to some of the diseases we fear the most: cancer, degenerative disease, liver dysfunction, etc.

Through a new approach I call seno-ablation, it may be possible to use natural killer cells to remove - or I like to use the term prune - these senescent cells. This could be a major advancement in combating serious disease.

In this episode, I talk about seno-ablation and some of the advancements that are being made in the eradication of senescent cells.
