Paid in Puke Podcast! – Details, episodes & analysis

On this episode of Paid in Puke, we're having a gay old time in the Australian outback with Stephan Elliott's 1994 debut feature, "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp. It tells the story of two drag queens and one trans woman who bring their cabaret act across the country to places both receptive and dangerous. The movie has some Hot Probs (including an inexcusable Asian stereotype character), but it also served as a pioneering film queer cinema, despite the cis maleness of the three lead actors. 

We're joined by special guest Lynn Harris: writer, producer, standup comedian and founder and CEO of Gold Comedy. We discuss the origin of pride parades, the proverbial desert that is trans representation, how far drag has come since the 90s, and some of our favorite modern queens. 

On today's episode of Paid in Puke, we're mainlining Coralie Fargeat's 2024 body horror comedy, The Substance, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. Special guest Bettina McKelvey joins the Pukettes to share our experiences with watching the unique and memorable piece of cinema.

On this episode of Paid in Puke Podcast, we're rummaging through Sofia Coppola's 2013 true crime drama, "The Bling Ring", starring Emma Watson, Katie Chang, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julian, Leslie Mann, and Israel Broussard. Coppola based the script on Nancy Jo Sales' 2010 Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins". Our returning guest is the Sparkle Queen known as Laura Lawrence ("9 to 5"). Laura has has seen the film many times, jammed out to the soundtrack many MORE times, and brings a shopping bag full of fun facts. 

We also get into the film's prescience for today's influencer culture, and why kids are less inclined to aspire to landing "a good job". On the Lunchtime Poll, we reveal the things we have in such abundance, we might not notice getting robbed.

We're back in that golden year of cinema, 1996, to discuss Andrew Fleming's one-of-a-kind teenage witch (not to be confused with Teen Witch) escapade, The Craft! It's rife with Hot Probs, but Fairuza Balk's performance cannot be denied.

Logan Green* is back in Keggers With Kids, and we also reveal what we would have used witchcraft for in high school (or, in Logan's case, middle school). 

And finally, Amy tells a HILARIOUS story about the famous murderer who hails from her home town.
