"When all the laughter dies in sorrow…” While the end of the Packers season is not as fraught as the Lance Rentzel memoir, it certainly stung. But why? Green Bay was playing with the proverbial “house money,” was it not? The post-season was a surprise gift, right? So, shouldn't this one be easily set aside as just a learning experience on the way to certain improvement next season and a string of playoff appearances thereafter? Like many Packers fans, Chris and Dave struggle with accepting the loss in that manner, knowing that the Niners game — and another appearance in the NFC Championship Game — was there for the taking…and that the future is far from certain.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Chris and Dave plan to do a “Season Wrap” pod in a few weeks. The boys are tentatively scheduled to record that one the week after the Super Bowl, so look for it sometime after February 15.

Playing with house money. There's no pressure. We're not even supposed to be here. Right? 

That sentiment was valid going into the 49ers game. As soon as we saw that the Packers could actually win the game, all of that went out the window. 

If you're eager to compare this playoff loss to a previous playoff loss, look no further than the 2009 loss to the Cardinals. 

The window is opening, not closing. 

The Packers just went toe-to-toe with the bully of the NFC and will bring virtually the entire team back. 

One of the best GMs in the league has more draft capital than he needs. 

Nothing is guaranteed, but the future for this Packers team is as bright as any team in the league.

A dominant playoff win over the Cowboys probably has you asking yourself, "what is this Packers team actually capable of?".  It appears they are capable of scoring on anyone, and Joe Barry is motivated to save his job.

Playoffs? Hell, yeah! The Packers beat the Chicago Bears to advance to the post-season and finish with a winning 9-8 record. Green Bay fans are euphoric, but a match-up with the Cowboys in Dallas might change the mood. There were a lot of valid reasons for Packers fans to not believe this team would be in the playoffs this season. Most of us were just hoping to know if Jordan Love was the guy or not.  

Spoiler alert - Jordan Love is the guy, and the youngest team in the league belongs in the playoffs.  

Now is not the time for perfection seeking and nitpicking. This Packers team is not perfect, but they are far ahead of where we thought they would be at this point. Now is the time to enjoy watching Packers playoff football.  For a rare moment, whatever happens next doesn't matter. Win or lose against Dallas, this Packers season has been a success.  The QB position is set.  The HC is one of the best in the league.  It looks like the GM just had an all-time great draft class.  

These things are worth celebrating and enjoying, Packers fans.

We've watched two different Packers teams this season. Starting with the playoff team, they came out of the gate against the Bears looking as good as this team has looked.

Then we saw the wheels fall off as flags piled up, assignments were missed, and things seemed to only be getting worse week-by-week. 

Out of nowhere, the playoff team shows back up and rattles off 4 wins in 5 games, including the Lions and Chiefs. MLF for COTY! Right? 

Not so fast, my friends. 

The playoff team has gone MIA, and the bumbling leaderless mess has returned. If you are rooting for the playoff team to show up before it's too late, you may be missing the plot.

The youngest offense in the league is being led by a guy that has only coached OL his entire career, and a talent-rich defense is being led by a guy that is (and has been) historically bad at his job. 

That playoff team you've seen is merely a foreshadowing of the potential of this young team. 

In order to capture that potential and bring it to reality, you need capable leadership. LaFleur possesses valuable leadership traits, but he is missing one major component that is common among successful leaders. He isn't surrounding himself with people smarter than him.

Some of the best leaders we know of will tell you that a good leader surrounds themselves with people smarter than them. 

LaFleur has demonstrated he's got a pretty high football IQ. It's not outrageous to say that he is not surrounded by guys smarter than him. His presence shouldn't be required in the defensive meeting room in order for the players to get communication correct.

It's a failure of leadership on LaFleur's part to cover for a failure of leadership on Joe Barry's part. What happens next will tell us a lot about how this young team will develop from here.

Five weeks ago, we had buried the Green Bay Packers playoff chances as nothing more than a fantasy, as be obliged ourselves to just look out for "growth" for the rest of the 2023 season.

And then, the Packers beat the defending champs in prime time, securing a spot--for the moment--as the NFC's seventh seed with five games to go.

Before this stretch of wins, we were talking about LaFleur's job being on the line if he didn't correct the ship. Of course, he was listening to the Packers Weekly Podcast and he took our advice to heart. At least that's what we choose to believe based on how they've turned things around since then. 

The most frustrating part about the losing streak was watching the offense look lost. We were all hoping to see the MLF offense run the way it should be, but we got an unrecognizable mess. 

Now it seems like an entirely different team is taking the field on offense. 

Jordan Love is progressing every single week. The play-calling looks flat out brilliant. AJ Dillon is running better, and the O-line looks like one of the best units in the league. 

We may never know what "shake things up" meant, but one thing is certain, MLF is behind the changes made and they are working. 

If LaFleur is able to lead this team to a playoff birth in the first year of Jordan Love starting, with the youngest offense in the league, give that man his much deserved Coach of the Year hardware.

If you've been watching every Packers game this season, you probably don't feel like you've been watching a playoff team. Even in their wins, they haven't looked overly impressive... That is until this win over the Lions on Thanksgiving. 

The Lions came into the game with an 8-2 record. Not many teams get to 8-2 by accident. As much as I'd like to treat the Lions like the poverty franchise they have been for so long, they are not that this season. 

Despite that, the Packers looked like the better team in an impressive win. 

So what now? 

Is the season a failure if they don't make the playoffs? 

What does that say about LaFleur, Love, Stenavich, and Gute? 

Can the Packers actually beat the Chiefs? 

Lots of good questions. What a fun place to be in the first year of the Love era!

The Packers haven't faced the toughest opponents the past 3 weeks, but the progress the offense is making can't be denied.

So what exactly did "shake things up" mean when a frustrated LaFleur dropped that in a press conference before the Rams game? We will probably never find out, because teams don't (and shouldn't) let that kind of stuff out of the building. Whatever it meant, it seems to have made a difference.

Jordan Love has had 2 of the best games of his career back to back, the offensive line is playing better, WRs are making more plays and less mistakes, and they've won 2 of 3 games after losing 5 of 6.
Maybe Lafleur stepped back into the OC role.
Maybe some simple routines were disrupted.
Whatever it is, let's hope it keeps working, and this young offense continues to grow.

Along the way, let's just be thankful that we have Packers football to watch on Thanksgiving Day.
The Lions played spoiler to good Packers teams on Thanksgiving Day in the past, maybe it's time for the Packers to return the favor...
