Where To Next?: Series Finale
Episode 107
vendredi 18 septembre 2020 • Duration 43:19
This is the last episode of Women on the Road, but by no means the end of our community. In fact, we are incredibly excited and honored that Noami Grevemberg and her team at Diversify Vanlife will be helping to evolve the podcast you hear on this channel moving forward, with a total reboot taking place in October under a new name, Nomads at the Intersections. In this finale episode, Noami and Laura talk about what this transition means to them, as well as how we hope to see you take part in where we’re going next.

What We Carry in the Passenger Seat: Kathy Karlo
Episode 106
vendredi 11 septembre 2020 • Duration 46:11
For some of us, what got us in the car in the first place are the things we’re running from-- but no matter how many miles we drive, those things end up in the passenger seat, along for the ride with us. Kathy Karlo, a climber, writer, Director of No Man’s Land Film Festival, and host and creator of the For the Love of Climbing podcast, is someone who knows the contents of her passenger seat well-- both literally and figuratively. And she uses the weight of what she carries to build something bigger than herself.

Off The Grid With A Kid: Where Are They Now?
Episode 97
vendredi 19 juin 2020 • Duration 36:47
As we all know, a lot can change in a couple of years: especially when you’re a mom, and especially when you live on the road. So we were so excited to bring Bionca Smith-- a full-time traveler, professional speaker and author, and mother to her 11-year-old son Carter-- back onto the show after two years to see how things have changed with the road as their home.

The Right Fit: Kathleen Morton
Episode 7
samedi 30 septembre 2017 • Duration 27:17
Whether it’s your vehicle, where you take it, or who’s in it-- being on the road sometimes means finding the right fit. And it’s not always so straightforward (in fact sometimes it’s downright messy). Sometimes looking for the right fit is an uncomfortable process and creates times of transition from one thing to the next, and when you live among an ever-changing landscape on top of that it’s important to have something consistent to lean on. Fortunately, Kathleen Morton of Tiny House Tiny Footprint knows all about the way community can play a crucial role of support, friendship, stability, and joy in this mobile lifestyle, especially during times of change.
Also in this episode: what happens at a Vanlife Gathering, why the Pacific Northwest is a great place for camper life, and a short list of things Kathleen loves about vintage vehicles.

Navigating Romance
Episode 6
vendredi 15 septembre 2017 • Duration 35:23
There’s a lot to traveling on the road with a romantic partner that is hard to explain with a social media post-- things like navigating tight living quarters, the special type of intimacy that comes with keeping a similar sleep schedule and buying all of the same groceries, and the behavioral change that happens when you know that there’s nowhere to retreat in the heat of a disagreement. It’s for this reason that Laura spends this episode bringing us all a little closer to some of the realities of traveling with a significant other by taking a peek into the lives of three different couples living on the road through the females within them: Katie Larsen, Juliana Linder, and Marisa and Vanessa Roaman. Tune in for stories on what to do if your partner is an early bird, how getting space from your partner is really a form of intimacy in itself, and that couples who clean together, stay together.

Space to Create: Musician Savannah King
Episode 5
samedi 2 septembre 2017 • Duration 27:44
From the moody East Coast to the heart of the Southwest desert, Savannah King is on a lifelong search for experiences to fuel her music. And after a stint of stagnation living a more conventional life, she turned to living on the road with her boyfriend in hopes of rediscovering her inspiration. As it turns out, new people, places, and a vintage campervan were just what she needed to reignite her passions.
Hear Savannah in words and music on this episode as she tells her story of growth, creativity, and creating a space for the life she most wanted.
Also included in this episode: why you should always check the ground you’re parked on, our hypothesis on what makes Sedona so magical, and the story of Laura’s forgotten ukulele.

How We Built Our Adventuremobiles
Episode 4
samedi 19 août 2017 • Duration 37:09
Whether it's an RV, van, trailer, bus, truck, or something else entirely, everyone who takes on the unique challenge of turning a vehicle into a home on wheels has their own journey. Creating a camper is a custom experience for each woman traveler so in this episode, nearly a dozen women share their build-out experiences, and amid the triumphs and trials we listen closely to hear the relationships behind each story that make these visions of travel into realities.
In addition to voice submissions from travelers Sabrina Oesterle, Leah Yanoff, Emily Hart, Alyssa Hitchcock, Julia Bonney, Sarah Ernst, and Amoris Walker, photographer and former full-time woman on the road Kris Holbrook joins host Laura Borichevsky for an interview to share her perspective and explain why the experience of converting her van was better done solo. Near the end of the episode, we hear from a special family whose young daughters, Paige and Quinn, designed the entire interior of the adventure van they will be spending weekends in with their dad, Sean, starting this fall.
To those wondering if it’s possible to make your vehicle into a home-- this one’s for you.

A Girl and Her Van (Plus One)
Episode 3
samedi 5 août 2017 • Duration 30:16
Roads are full of twists and turns. So is the life you live on it. What happens when you come up against the inevitable challenges of living from one place to the next? And how do you come out better for it?
Alex Ulmke of A Girl And Her Van knows all about the ups and downs of life on the road. When we first met Alex one year ago, she was feeling lonely and disconnected on the road. But because of her resilient nature she’s learned a lot about breaking through challenges to the other side. Laura asks Alex about her triumphs and challenges thus far and hears about where her travels have taken her in the past year.
Also covered in this episode: why Haines is a magical place, how to amp up your camping meals, and what item is the most-missed home luxury on the road.
Follow Alex Ulmke on Instagram or read about her travels on her website.

An Integrated Life: Noël Russell
Episode 2
samedi 22 juillet 2017 • Duration 29:56
What if living on the road full time doesn't work for your lifestyle? What if you love your day job? Laura talks with Noël Russell about striking the right balance for home in Oakland and away in her Sprinter Van.
Two months into her trip, our host Laura Borichevsky reflects on what living part-time in her van was like while she worked full-time in the Pacific Northwest. Learning to balance a full-time career and the outdoors wasn’t always the easiest, but it’s one a lot of adventurers out there seem to navigate.
Noël Russell is the perfect person to talk to about striking the right balance in work and travel. Monday through Friday she supports homeless youth services in San Francisco, and every weekend seems to be jam-packed with exploring in her Sprinter van with her husband and two dogs. For her, it’s all integrated.
Noël’s passion and thoughtful take on life is inspiring and rooted in her values, ultimately showing weekend warriors, camper lovers, and wanderlusters alike that integrating work and travel is something you can thrive in.

What We Wish We Knew Before Hitting the Road
Episode 1
samedi 8 juillet 2017 • Duration 33:12
Host Laura Borichevsky shares her backstory - which includes a bit of trepidation about setting off on the road in her Ford Transit van full time. So she turns to some current and former travelers to get their advice for life on 4 wheels. Laura asks the question:
What do you wish you knew before hitting the road?
Since Laura doesn't have a time machine, talking with Laura Patton of Mobile Roamers and Gale Straub (host & founder of She Explores) is the next best thing. We also get to hear voice submissions answering the question from women who've lived the lifestyle first hand: Juliana Linder of @homesweetvan, Alexandra Ulmke of @agirlandhervan, Emily King of @wheresmyofficenow, Morgan Brown, Emelia Wint, and Ariel Ferree of We the Wildflowers.
If you're curious about making the leap to full time travel, love taking long road trips on the weekends, or just want to meet some adventurous women - this episode is for you.
