Nutritional Revolution Podcast
Kyla Channell, MSc Nutrition & Human Performance
Frequency: 1 episode/11d. Total Eps: 198

Nutritional Revolution (NR) was created when owner Kyla Channell saw that there was a true disconnect between daily nutrition and nutrition for athletes. Specifically on when and how to use specific fueling methods to achieve optimal performance as well as health in their sport. NR believes that any one person no matter their age, weight, or current struggle can make healthy changes to improve their well being and get closer to their goals through education, motivation, support, encouragement, and the right guidance. In this podcast, we go beyond food & nutrition; we also explore the best practices for better living.

Episode 65 with Amanda Brooks: Nutrition Tips and Tricks for Runners from a Seasoned Run Coach
Season 1 · Episode 65
mardi 25 avril 2023 • Duration 50:48
In today's episode, we speak with Amanda Brooks about...
- Nutrition mistakes she's learned from
- How she has developed her nutrition game plan
- Tips and tricks for carrying and consuming fuel and hydration mid-race
- How she grew her run coaching business
- Strength training for runners
I’m Amanda Brooks the one woman running the show around here since 2007. A certified running coach and personal trainer for over a decade, I’ve helped thousands of runners through 1-1 personalized coaching and Virtual Run Club. Initially, I started the blog as a way to connect with other runners, but over the years my Journalism degree kicked in and I wanted to really KNOW more about running, so I started to create researched articles and make connections with people smarter than me to answer questions! 26,000 miles, 20+ years of running, a book and 2,000 articles later, I feel pretty good about not only helping others, but understanding whatever you’re going through on the run! My goal is to you thinking beyond pace to having more fun and less injuries.

In today's episode, we speak with Sam Moore about...
- Menstrual cycle phase based training
- How the menstrual cycle affects creatine supplementation
- How creatine benefits fluid distribution
- Why menstruators should supplement with creatine
Sam Moore is an applied sport scientist and Human Movement Science Doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, researching endocrinological topics of applied female athlete sport science. Sam completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Human Biology from Western Oregon University and her master’s degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Carolina, Sam was with the NC State Wolfpack from 2019-2021 as the Director of Sport Science and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.
After two season ending knee surgeries during her dual sport collegiate athletic career, Moore was drawn to the starkly different experience entering the “real-world” as a former female athlete compared to her male counterparts. This was the inception of what would later establish her as the topic expert in the field of female athlete physiology in the pursuit of gender equity in collegiate women’s sports.
As the first woman to serve as a Director of Sport Science in the NCAA, Sam implemented a revolutionary and evidence informed framework of women’s specific training design based on the hormonal landscape of the Wolfpack female athletes. Sam has presented at major international conferences on topics ranging from metabolic and performance effects of female sex hormones to bigger pictures issues of equity and social justice for women and gender diverse athletes. Sam lives in Durham, N.C., with her husband Bennet and their 9-month-old puppy, Dionysus.

Episode 62 with Heather Jackson: Multi-Sport Nutrition from a Pro Triathlete, Cyclist, and Ultra Trail Runner
Season 1 · Episode 62
mardi 4 avril 2023 • Duration 46:39
In today's episode, we speak with Heather Jackson about...
- Her background and future in multi-disciplinary sports
- Nutrition mistakes she's learned from in the past
- How her fueling and hydration game plans change before, during, and after triathlons, gravel cycling, mountain biking, and ultra trail running
Heather Jackson is a professional athlete who spent the first twenty years of her life dabbling in a variety of different sports before focusing on ice hockey, playing Division 1 collegiately as well as intermittently for the United States’ Women’s National Team, ultimately trying to make the 2006 Olympic Games. Not making the team for the Torino Games, combined with the lack of options for women’s ice hockey post college, she found herself inspired by the novel physical demands of swimming, biking and running after attending a local sprint triathlon with her parents. Jackson fell in love with testing her individual limits after 20 years of team sport, and found success in triathlon, racing professionally for almost 15 years, winning some of the most prestigious events in the sport along the way. She is a 6x Ironman Champion, 16x Half Ironman Champion, and Escape from Alcatraz Champion. She made her biggest mark at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii where she placed in the top five four times, including a third place podium finish in 2016.
