| Writing conversion copy for your Facebook ads, here's what you need to know | 06 Mar 2023 | 00:18:41 | |
I’m really excited about this episode and have been having so much fun with creating it. AI - artificial intelligence - has been around for quite some time but now it’s becoming more accessible to all of us. I’m not sure if you’ve had a play with it yet but I had a good play with it for this episode and while it gave me some pretty good answers, I definitely had a whole lot to say and add haha. I’m definitely not going to hand over all of my copywriting and ad copy to a robot, even though they’re pretty smart. There are tons of issues with it that I won’t go into today but I do want to mention that there is no fact checking, it’s full of plagiarism because it pulls intelligence from websites and it also lacks human emotion. Anyway, I really wanted to talk to you about conversion copywriting for your Facebook ads. Let’s look at what you need to know and how to go about it.

| Grow your business with a podcast | 20 Feb 2023 | 00:14:20 | |
Today I want to talk about podcasting and why I think it’s a great idea to start a podcast for your business. Now, don’t get me wrong, podcasting isn’t for everyone but many of you could grow your business with a podcast. Let’s look at how a podcast can help you grow your business.
One of the best things about podcasting is that anyone can become a thought leader or influencer. All you need is a message and a means to record and broadcast that message. Pretty awesome right? Having a podcast is a more intimate way to share your content, it helps you build a personal connection and humanises your brand. It can feel like you’re having a conversation with your audience, which really helps you build authority. | 3 Ways to grow your leads and increase your income | 13 Feb 2023 | 00:16:19
Ok, let’s talk about leads and how to grow your leads, because without leads your business will dry up. You need leads to fuel your business. Let’s first determine what a lead is. A lead refers to contact with a potential customer. Some people would also call it a prospect. We can also think of a lead as someone who is interested in what you or your company has to offer and the aim with marketing and sales is to convert a lead into a paying customer. Attracting more leads means that you can reach out to these people and make more sales. Growing your list, or your leads is incredibly important for your business. Without leads things dry up, and if you are trying to sell info products or digital courses you’ll need to be building your list every day to be able to continue to sell. So how can you be proactive and attract more leads in your business? There are so many lead generation options and tools available to us these days, but that doesn’t mean that you need to do and use them all. Today, let’s look at 3 ways to grow your leads so you can increase your sales and income. Tune in 🎧 Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast? | 5 Top marketing strategies for service providers and local businesses | 06 Feb 2023 | 00:16:32
We’ve been out and about a bit more than we normally do and ever since moving to Tasmania I’ve been quietly spying on all of the local businesses that we engage with. I recently learned that there are close to 40,000 small businesses in Tasmania and the majority of them employ less than 20 people. So we’re definitely surrounded by small businesses here. That’s why I thought it would be great to talk about marketing for service providers and local businesses, because they often market themselves in different ways to people who only operate online. Mind you, a lot of businesses now operate online, even if they’re local. So these 5 strategies are pretty much applicable to any business, especially if you have a physical location. Let’s dive in. | Nobody can guarantee Facebook ads results | 30 Jan 2023 | 00:14:34
I’m not sure if you follow many Facebook ads managers or ads coaches, but because I show an interest in Facebook advertising and marketing I get served up a lot of ads by other Facebook marketers. And every so often I see an ad in which the ad manager guarantees a certain result. There are even ads that promote a deal where you don’t pay if they don’t get you results. Sounds amazing right? I mean, who wouldn’t want a guarantee like that. It’s like a total win for you. Don’t get me wrong, I know why they do it. It’s super smart marketing. But they’re also wasting an awful lot of time. Yours mainly. And it just annoys me. I’ll tell you why it makes me so uncomfortable and a bit angry when they promise and guarantee results. Last week I looked at the year ahead and shared some predictions with you. In this episode I want to share the one marketing strategy you need in 2023 (and probably every year after that). The one marketing strategy that gives you the highest return on investment and has for years. The one marketing strategy that allows you to build closer relationships with your audience. The one marketing strategy that everyone thought would become obsolete with the introduction of social media. | 2023 Marketing and Facebook Advertising predictions | 16 Jan 2023 | 00:21:08
Now that we’ve sliced the top off 2023 and people are getting back to business, I’d love to have a peek into my crystal ball and talk about what I think 2023 has in store for us. Before we leap in, let’s have a look at 2022 and take some lessons on-board because gosh it was an interesting year. 2022 saw a lot of businesses struggling and many had to pivot or go under. It was quite a challenging year for many business owners and if you’ve struggled with sales, profitability and marketing in 2022 you’re not the only one and it’s not a reflection of your ability to run and grow a sustainable business. For those who made changes and paid attention to their audience and marketing landscape it paid off. And interestingly ad costs are cheaper than they were a year ago. I’m not sure if that stays the same, but right now it’s good news. So what’s going to see you succeed in 2023 with ads? Let’s dive into some predictions for the year ahead (and remember that anything can happen from now until December). 🎧 Tune in to hear more Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast? Your ideal client has money to spend, they have certain priorities in life, so let’s figure out how to find them so that they spend their money with you. I’ve spoken plenty about how important it is to know your ideal client, and it’s more important than ever. Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, and a gazillion other online spaces.. it’s where your ideal client hangs out every day, but you really don’t want to be doing all the things. You’ll end up exhausted, overwhelmed and on some of these platforms you won’t even be seen by that many people because it’s pretty busy. So how do you attract your ideal clients when everyone else is shouting into the same void? Again, it comes down to really know who your ideal clients are. Knowing them so well that when you ARE speaking into the void so to say, that they feel like you’re speaking directly to them. They’ll say ‘it’s like you’re inside my head’. So let’s go back to defining clearly who your ideal client is, but using your ICA (Ideal Client Avatar). | Why you need a website for your business | 03 Oct 2022 | 00:16:42
Today's topic might be an odd one if you basically live in the online world. I’m talking about myself here. I live and breathe online marketing, so I’m always surprised when I find out that a business doesn’t have a website. Ever since moving to Tasmania I’m finding that a lot of businesses don’t have websites and survive either by just having a physical presence or they see their social media account as their online presence. When we first moved here I really struggled to find certain services because nothing came up on Google, which meant that I had to ask in Facebook groups. There’s nothing wrong with this approach per se, except for the fact that the business is not in charge of marketing itself. It has to rely on other people mentioning them in groups. The search function in Facebook isn’t like it is in Google. In Facebook you have to know the business name to be able to search for it, which in my case didn’t help because I didn’t know the name of the business. All of this is not the end of the world really, but I am generally horrified when I hear that a business doesn’t have a website and I’ll tell you why. | Repeating yourself is essential for sales | 06 Sep 2022 | 00:11:51
It’s my mission to make marketing easy and fun, because it’s something everyone can do. I have to admit, there have been times where I’ve fallen out of love with marketing. Yes, it happens to all of us I think. But then I realised that I’d been comparing myself too much because of all the things I see on social media. So I took a step back, had a really good journaling session and it became clear to me what parts of marketing I love and which parts I don’t like so much. You see, I’m not good with ‘being told what to do’ or that I ‘should do xyz’. I want things to feel fun and organic, and I do them when I want to do them, not because I should. Don’t get me wrong, there still needs to be some consistency because showing up once every quarter doesn’t really work well but it needs to feel fun to me. That’s exactly why I created the No BS BS club. Because marketing and business should be fun, and it can be lighthearted as well as deep. It can be complicated as well as simple. During my big journaling session I also wrote down that repetition is essential for sales. It’s a reminder to myself as well as a message for you. Let’s go a little deeper into this. You have to tell people what you’re selling, but you also have to tell people THAT you’re selling. | How to audit your own Facebook ads performance | 30 Aug 2022 | 00:15:09
A few weeks ago I launched the No BS BS Club, which if you are not familiar with it, is a marketing membership but not as you know it. In the club you get access to weekly business brainstorm calls with me, all for less than lunch with friends. I’ll put the link in the show notes so you can find out for yourself what it is exactly. Right now it’s open to join as a founding member, but this ends at the end of August. So we’ve had a few calls with the club and it has been so much fun, and of course the ideas are never ending. In the club and also inside my ads courses I regularly do reviews for members. I review things such as their website, their email funnels, their advertising campaigns. And that’s what I want to talk about today. About how you can audit your own Facebook advertising campaigns to see if they’re performing well. | The most important part of your about page | 02 Aug 2022 | 00:08:51
On the weekend I was browsing small business websites and I came across something that really does makes me annoyed that so many businesses don’t do this. So today's episode is brought to you by my annoyance (just kidding). As I was browsing through these websites, I went to their about pages. In case you didn’t know this, your about page is one of the most frequently visited pages of your website. I was on probably 4 or 5 different websites and looked at their about pages. Out of all of these websites only one, ONE, had this crucial element on their about page. The rest spouted all generic ‘about us’ stuff that wasn’t even really about them, or about me, it was impersonal and I’m suspecting that their ‘us’ talk is one person hiding behind their website and trying to look bigger than they are. | Why you must do a launch debrief after every launch | 25 Jul 2022 | 00:14:39
In today’s episode I want to talk about launch debriefs, why they’re a must and how to go about them. Let’s first talk about what I mean by a launch, because there are lots of things that you can launch. When I talk about launches I’m speaking about a sales period for an online program, course or membership. So what happens with a client launch is that we spend a certain amount of time building up the client’s audience, we also build their email list and then they open cart for their program, generally with an event like a webinar or challenge. Some of my clients launch in addition to having an evergreen funnel, which means that their courses can always be purchased and the cart never closes. For these launches the incentive to join during a launch is often a bonus that expires. Other clients have specific open and close cart periods and they run their programs for a predetermined amount of time. Whichever way you want to do this, you need a launch debrief. -------- Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast? | Will Facebook ads work for my store? | 11 Jul 2022 | 00:09:13
Today I want to talk about Facebook ads for your store, and whether it will work. I get that many of you are curious about Facebook ads, but at the same time hesitant of the unknown and whether you’ll get a return on your investment. Let me be honest, Facebook & Instagram ads don’t work for everyone, at least not in the way you probably want them to. Let me explain. You most likely want to run ads to get sales, which is fair enough, you’re running a business after all, not a fan club. | Support your ads strategy with organic content | 04 Jul 2022 | 00:13:19
Facebook ads can be amazing at increasing your traffic, attracting leads and converting to sales, but the days of simply putting up an ad and it doing exactly what you want are over. Back in the good old days you could simply run a lead generation campaign and get leads at a really low cost per lead, but that’s not always the case nowadays. The ads landscape has changed a lot. There are more players, but not necessarily more space in the newsfeed so it’s becoming more and more competitive. Throw in an iOS change and suddenly everything about running ads has changed. While I miss the good old days, I also welcome the change because it means that us marketers have to work smarter. We’re really going back to basics, back to the essence of marketing, which is to build relationships for the purpose of promoting and selling products and services. | Save time by batching your social media content | 27 Jun 2022 | 00:13:02
Marketing is one of my favourite topics and if you’re in business you simply can’t escape it. Without marketing nobody will find you. Makes it sound pretty dramatic but it’s true. Even telling your friends and family about your business is a form of marketing. In the past 10 years so much has changed in the marketing landscape. With the rise of social media platforms and digital opportunities it can feel like a bit of a minefield for business owners. Social media is a great opportunity for businesses to market themselves, but it can also feel overwhelming and it’s not always easy to stand out from the crowd. If you’ve read up on what’s what in social media and Googled how often you should post you’ll find a number of different answers. In my opinion, quality is much more important than quantity. Posting for the sake of posting isn’t really going to do you any favours. You’re much better off focusing on creating quality content and post less frequently than simply slap a picture on Instagram without any meaningful caption. So how do you create content without the overwhelm and time suck? Tune in to hear more 🎧 Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast? | Build trust and sell more of your products | 13 Jun 2022 | 00:14:35
We’ve just wrapped up a long weekend here in Australia to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. We booked tickets to a winter festival and it was lovely. The food was amazing, there was music and they had workshops for the kids. Normally we kind of hibernate during winter and don’t get out much but if there’s one thing I love about moving to Tasmania it’s all of the little festivals they have on. There’s always something to do, places to go, people to meet. Talking about people. In this episode I want to talk about trust. Trust is incredibly important at any time, but when you’re running an online business it’s even more important. Online businesses can get a bad reputation if they break a person’s trust, and sadly the rest of the industry suffers from it too. We’ve all heard of scams, people ordering something and not receiving it, things not looking like they did in the picture, slow fulfilment, no response from the business etc. In a way we’re giving our money to someone we’ve never met to hopefully get something we’ve never seen and we basically have to hope for the best. This is where trust comes in and the need to build trust to sell more online. So how can you, as a business, build trust? | How to grow your email list as an ecommerce store | 30 May 2022 | 00:10:15
With the end of the financial year looming it’s time to clear some stock and make space for new products right? If you want some ideas on what to do to sell some of that current stock, listen back to episode 83 where I give you marketing ideas for the end of the financial year. In this episode I want to talk about one of my favourite things. List building, but in particular - how to grow your email list as an ecommerce store. If you haven’t tuned in to one of my previous episodes about list building and why it’s my absolute favourite topic, let me fill you in. List building is the intentional activity of getting your audience to join your email marketing list, or also called your database. The reasons we need to build our list are that *one* you’re not putting your valuable eggs in one basket or relying on what I call rented land and *two* Your email list is the most lucrative marketing investment you’ll ever come across.

| What's working right now - Facebook ads tips from the front line | 02 May 2022 | 00:08:02 | |
While I’ve been on maternity leave, and technically still am, I’ve kept a close eye on what’s happening with Facebook ads and my small and mighty team as well as my peers are keeping me in the loop. So in this episode I want to dive into what’s working right now and share Facebook ads tips from the front line. Firstly I want to mention that the Facebook ads landscape has changed a lot in the past year. What used to work doesn’t anymore and advertisers have had to change and adapt new strategies. In a way it’s like we’ve gone back to basics. The marketing foundations of your business need to be solid and working or else the rest of it topples over. So what’s working right now? | Why list building is still the most popular type of ad objective | 25 Apr 2022 | 00:08:24
The last few weeks there have been lots of conversations in my peer group about list building and how important it still is for businesses. Especially for coaches, course creators and service based businesses but equally so for e-commerce businesses. It made me think about this topic more, and how this information should be shared further and not just kept in my peer group of ads managers. So in today’s episode I want to talk about list building and why it’s still the most popular type of ad objective. For as long as I’ve been an ads manager, and this goes back more than 7 years, I’ve been talking about list building. At some stage I even had an entire course dedicated to Facebook ads for list building. List building is still one of the ads that I run for my clients. In fact, it’s the ad I run most for clients. That and retargeting ads. I mostly run list building ads for my course creator and service based clients but I’ve also set them up for e-commerce clients. So what does all this mean? List building ads are ads created specifically to get someone in your audience to join your email marketing list so that you can email them about your program or products. | Why packaging matters | 18 Apr 2022 | 00:09:32
Setting up an ecommerce store and selling your product is one thing, but there’s so much more to selling a product. So let’s talk about packaging and why it matters. Online shopping is huge. People get parcels every day. I actually pick up parcels from the post office regularly (yes, my secret is out). My online shopping experience doesn’t end when I add things to my cart and check out, I’d argue that it’s when it starts. Your packaging is part of the experience for your customer and there’s a big difference in sending it in a plain white post satchel vs a beautifully branded box. One of the things I bought while I was pregnant, and also during my recovery, were maternity leggings and recovery shorts from Plie Australia. Each time I picked up my parcel from the post office I would get a little giddy because the box is beautifully branded, the items are always wrapped carefully in tissue paper and it includes postcards about the product and the business inside. The entire experience is one that’s well thought out and exciting for the customer. 🎧 Tune in to hear more Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast? | Improving your eComm abandon cart rate | 21 Mar 2022 | 00:11:05
It’s mid March and on the 6th of this month we welcomed our baby boy into this world. He was very speedy, giving us barely enough time to get to hospital. These first weeks with him home have been a massive adjustment but I’m loving it, he’s a pretty relaxed baby. A few weeks ago, in episode 72, I spoke about improving your website to improve your conversion rate. In today’s episode I want to talk about improving your eComm abandon cart rate. First up, I want to say that abandon carts are normal. Not everyone is going to checkout and buy from your store, and that’s ok. That’s all part of being in business. Secondly, there are benchmarks, or average numbers for abandon cart rates that you should be familiar with so that you limit your disappointment and know that your store is performing at a certain level. Let’s first talk about what an abandoned cart actually means. Basically, it’s when someone visits your store and adds something to their shopping cart but doesn’t check out. Aka, they don’t purchase and leave the store. The average abandon cart rate of an ecommerce store is 68%, so out of 100 people adding something to their cart, 68 are going to leave their cart and not purchase. That seems like a really high number, and that’s why eComm store owners are often disheartened. So let’s look at ways to improve your store so more people checkout.

| [Replay] 3 Ways to use Facebook advertising to grow a waitlist of clients | 07 Mar 2022 | 00:14:09 | |
[Replay] This episode was another favourite. So in this episode I want to talk through 3 ways to use Facebook ads to grow a waitlist of clients. When you are a service provider, coach, course creator or someone who sells high ticket items, and with high ticket I mean over $300 - $500, you will find that before someone buys from you, they spend a bit of time getting to know you and your business. People generally don’t invest a chunk of money with someone they don’t know. It does happen occasionally but it’s not common. So to use Facebook ads to sell something to someone who has never heard of your business is extremely difficult, as well as extremely expensive. People need to get to know you first. | [Replay] Should you run Facebook & Instagram ads in your business? | 28 Feb 2022 | 00:09:54
Another replay for you to enjoy. I get asked this question a lot, so here's my answer. I get asked this question quite often, and because I get paid to manage people’s Facebook ads you might think that I have a strong bias towards saying yes. And you’re right, I do think that most businesses could benefit from Facebook advertising. After all, it’s the biggest social media platform with more than 2.8 billion active users worldwide, so your ideal client is bound to be using it. BUT, there are a lot of things that need to happen before someone is ready for Facebook ads. Inside this episode I discuss what you need to have in place before you start running Facebook & Instagram ads in your business. | How to improve your website to improve your conversion rate | 21 Feb 2022 | 00:17:30
In today’s episode I want to talk about how you can improve your website to improve your conversion rate. I’ll be focusing on e-commerce stores here, but if you’re a coach or have a service based business, this could apply to you too. When we talk about conversion rates, I’m talking about the percentage of people that purchase something from your store vs the amount of people visiting your website. If 100 people visit your website and 3 people purchase something, that means you have a conversion rate of 3%. Which in ecommerce terms is a pretty good conversion rate. The average conversion for an ecommerce site is between 2-4%. When I work with ecommerce stores I often ask them what their conversion rate is and if it’s below 2% my advice is to focus on improving your conversion rate before running Facebook ads. So how do you improve your conversion rate? Connect with me Website: www.newschoolofmarketing.com Love the New School of Marketing Podcast?
