In this episode, I’m talking to Henrik Niedieck about what it truly means to live processes 24/7 – professionally, personally, and even during vacation. We explore how process thinking becomes a mindset that shapes not only your work but the way you see the world – even from a beach chair.

He’s also a certified triathlon coach and Ironman athlete, applying the same discipline and continuous improvement mindset to sport as he does to business.

We recorded this episode during a spontaneous vacation meetup at Fleesensee – in German, on video, from a beach chair. You’ll find the video here.

The English version was translated using the AI tool HeyGen.

2 BPM Nerds on Tools, AI & Humans with Martin Holling10 Sep 202401:02:48

#055 Just two BPM nerds talking about nerdy BPM stuff

In this episode, I'm talking to Martin Holling again. We discuss about current BPM topics such as the implementation of AI, what's happened at KEMNA BAU since our last conversation over a year ago, which tools have made which improvements, which human-centric methods we've come across recently, and so on.

After leaving Siemens, he worked as a Senior BPM Consultant for four years. Today, he is Head of Process Management at KEMNA BAU, one of the largest road construction companies and street infrastructure providers in Germany.

In parallel, he is offering his experience as a self-employed management consultant at living-processes.de.

#037 Join us two BPM nerds talking about feelings, roles, standardization, and a big announcement.

In this slightly different episode, I'm talking to Martin Holling for the second time. In addition to the topics that Martin and I have on our radar at the moment, Martin shares insights into his BPM journey at KEMNA BAU. And we delve into one of my favorite topics of New Process: the role concept. What are the important elements? In parallel, he is offering his experience as a self-employed management consultant at living-processes.de

You’ll learn:

  • What Martin and I have on our radar right now
  • What Martin’s BPM journey at KEMNA BAU looks like
  • How to differentiate between roles working in the process and on the process

How to apply “storylistening” to rethink processes with Astrid Kirchhoff from hummingbirds31 Jan 202300:42:47

#023: In this episode, I’m speaking with Astrid Kirchhoff from Hummingbirds about how to apply storylistening to open up our perspectives to a new way of rethinking processes.

Astrid provides a broad explanation of how using the art of careful listening and the power of many authentic narrated experiences to better understand values, attitudes, and motivations.

We’ll get a deeper understanding of how humans are storytelling animals, mixed in with a three-step approach of storylistening, story collection, and understanding the story, can help you engage and understand your client’s goals and target as an expert, at a more in-depth level and execute their ideas, goals and true intentions, purposefully and effectively.

Today's Guest

Astrid Kirchhoff

Astrid is a Narrative Facilitator at Hummingbird’s . She studied systemic organizational development at the Center for Systemic Research and Consulting in Heidelberg, as well as organizational development at Stuttgart Media University. Before specializing in this area, Astrid worked as an Account Executive for several companies in the marketing sector and has run her own advertising company for 10 years.

Astrid is here to tell you more about what storylistening really is, and how we can apply this to processes, to rethink processes, to cultivate a more human-centric, process management approach.

Hummingbirds is a company built by experienced entrepreneurs, creative people, strategists, scientists, and thinkers. They take big stories and provide meaningful data that can help management, entrepreneurs, and businesses improve their strategies through effective communication and help to better understand complex systems, team relations, and their market, story by story.

You'll learn

  • What storylistening is
  • How the typical process of storylistening looks like
  • How storylistening can be applied to rethink process modeling
  • What the secret ingredients of a storylistening project are
  • What Astrid’s top recommendations to rethink processes are

How EPC supports you to rethink processes with Scott Armstrong from Interfacing17 Jan 202301:01:27

#022: In this episode, I'm speaking with Scott Armstrong from Interfacing about EPC. EPC stands for Enterprise Process Center and is Interfacing's integrated management system. Scott provides deep insights into the tool and how EPC helps rethink processes. Exciting are also his predictions for the BPM tool market and what of it is already on the roadmap for EPC.

Today's Guest

Scott Armstrong

Scott is an entrepreneur, innovator, keynote speaker, and soon to be father. He is managing partner of Interfacing and its global subsidiaries and he is partner of Dempton Solutions, which is an IT consulting firm.

As I learned, he's an avid skier. He used to compete in mogul competitions. He has an appetite for risk in business and life: He lives by the motto, work harder, play harder. 🚀

Interfacing as a pioneer in processes. It launched one of the first business process re-engineering modeling and simulation engines back in 1994 and then also one of the first web-based central repository solutions in 2000 as part of the Michael Hemmer BPM movement.

Interfacing was acquired by Scott and his partners seven years ago and has grown to become one of the leading global digital twin solutions. Interfacing offers a full BPM suite from modeling, analysis, simulation to automation. And what makes interfacing really interesting for me as an airline guy is their solution's capabilities to cover all compliance requirements of highly regulated industries like airlines, MRO, pharma, MedTech, and so on. They are very specialized also in the coverage of all QMS, GRC, BPM, and EA requirements.

You'll learn

  • What the underlying philosophy of EPC is
  • How to model processes in EPC
  • How employees retrieve their processes in EPC
  • How EPC fosters the development of people
  • How EPC supports you to design cooperation on and in the process to people's needs
  • What developments of the BPM tool market Scott sees
  • What EPC has on its development roadmap
  • What EPC costs and how you can test it

What life of a real Process Architect looks like with Christoph BĂŒnker from Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services22 Nov 202200:55:36

#018: In this episode, I'm speaking with Christoph BĂŒnker from Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services. Christoph is not only a Process Architect himself, he actually leads an entire team of eight Process Architects.

Christoph has a long-lasting experience in this area and he is probably the most experienced Process Architect I know of.

When I am talking about the role of a Process Architect, I am talking about the role supporting the Process Owner to design, improve, implement, and steer a process. So if the Process Owner is accountable for all these activities, the Process Architect takes over the responsibility for the execution. You may call this role also Process manager in some organizations, but in the New Process Role Concept it’s the Process Architect.

The episode is so full of exciting insights and you will learn more about what the life of a real Process Architect looks like!

Today's Guest

Christoph BĂŒnker

Christoph is Head of the Global Process Management Competence Center Warehouse at Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services in Hamburg since 2016.

Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services is a member of the Lufthansa Group providing logistic solutions for the maintenance, repair and overhaul business.

Before becoming the Head of the Competence Center, Christoph has worked as a Process Architect for Warehousing and Shipping since 2014.

Before joining Lufthansa Group, Christoph studied Information Systems at Technical University of Darmstadt and worked for Otto Group as a Project Manager for Process and System Development in Hamburg.

You'll learn

  • What the typical tasks of a Process Architect are
  • How Christoph and his team are executing a process life cycle to improve their processes
  • How they prioritise the topics to work on
  • How they communicate process changes
  • How they train the people working in their processes
  • How they cooperate with their counterparts at the different locations as well as with IT
  • Why and how they apply process mining
  • What the qualification requirements of a Process Architect are
  • What Christoph's 3 top tips for new Process Architects are
