REDNECK AIRLINES Commercial spoof (2016)23 Oct 202400:02:34

Here's a tribute to my late friend Viktor Aurelius, a fellow audio dramatist and friend, who collaborated with me on several projects, some being his, and some being mine. A number of health problems shortened his life, and the audio drama community has never really recovered from the loss.

One of the bits he provided voice talent for was this fake commercial for "Redneck Airlines", which can't be described without spoiling the whole effect, so just listen and enjoy. Viktor's playing the "Bubba" character, and he overshadows my character completely.

Miss Daisy is played by Katie Loftin.

ADVENTURES OF THE FEDERATED TEC #8 - Night Shots11 Jul 202100:41:14

We proudly present episode eight, "Night Shots", adapted by Mark Slade from Hammett's seventh published Op story, in 1924. This is the season one finale, and we hope you enjoy it and will join us for season 2, coming soon.

Season Two of Old-Time Radio Essentials concludes! It's our finale, and Pete's pick -- and he's bringing us an exciting episode of Tales of the Texas Rangers for us to enjoy and discuss.

And since we're on the subject of discussion, we hope to determine whether this entry meets the following criteria:

1. Is it truly representative of that series? (Can anyone point to it and say, "Yes, that is what [NAME OF SERIES] was all about.")

2. Is it an episode worthy of inclusion in any and every OTR aficionado's private collection?

So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our twenty-fifth number (but 12th official episode of S2), this episode of Tales of the Texas Rangers from 1950. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it! WARNING: This OTR episode contains derogatory comments about Latin-Americans. Listener discretion is advised.

ADVENTURES OF THE FEDERATED TEC #7 - The Tenth Clew part 231 May 202100:28:42

"Adventures of the Federated Tec"! A series of 8 initial episodes of 7 dramatized stories featuring Dashiell Hammett's nameless detective. We call him the Federated Tec ("Tec" being short for detective), but you probably know him as something else. We've chosen Hammett's first few stories that have moved into the public domain, and have done our best to stay true to the originals -- and why not? The originals are just fine, as far as we're concerned.

So here is episode seven, part 2 of "The Tenth Clew", adapted by Pete Lutz from Hammett's sixth published Op story, in 1924. We hope you enjoy it and will join us for future episodes.

SAVE THE LAST WORD FOR ME E3 - Alex Moore08 May 202100:38:01

SAVE THE LAST WORD FOR ME #3: Chatting with voice actor and friend Alex Moore (10/2016)

Again from our archives, we present the 3rd episode of a discussion podcast that I had high hopes for, but which only went for 9 episodes or so. But the discussions are fun and if you're interested in voice actors' lives, we delve pretty deep in these interviews.

Alex Moore is a terrifically talented voice actor from Texas, whom I first met when we acted together in a production of Love's Labour's Lost at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. Since then she has moved to the Dallas area, and has lent her voice to anime productions and commercials, and has appeared on the professional theatrical stage as well. I'm also proud to say that she's appeared in a handful of my audio dramas.

I'll be posting these re-runs monthly -- they originally launched on a different platform that I never use anymore, so you probably never heard of this show. Still, I hope you'll listen and enjoy.

PROJECT AUDION 58 - Matinee With Bob & Ray12 Aug 202400:32:57

Project Audion invites you to some light summer fare. This Audion Original -- "Matinee with Bob & Ray" -- is Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding like you've never heard before, because it's made from fresh sketches in tribute to "The Two and Only." If there is such a thing as mid-century-modern comedy, Bob & Ray are the leading example - a comedy team formed (legend has it) by accident in the mid-1940s when a baseball game broadcast was rained out and these two young men were thrown together to ad-lib on the air. That began a five-decade partnership that saw them on every radio network, on TV, films, and even Broadway. Their wit and deadpan characters influenced many later funnymen, including Bob Newhart, David Letterman, Jay Leno and many others. Also Pete Lutz, who wrote this half-hour of new absurdly satirical routines to bring back to life a "Matinee with Bob & Ray!" ENJOY!   Bob Elliott - John Bell, Alabama Ray Goulding - Pete Lutz, Texas Organ - Ross Bernardt , Texas Production - Larry Groebe, Texas   In case you have been led here by a direct link, or a friendly bear, you may not know that John Bell & Pete Lutz created an earlier Bob & Ray show for Project Audion, and that show can be found here: https://naradaradio.libsyn.com/project-audion-22-the-bob-ray-show
OLD-TIME RADIO ESSENTIALS Ep. 23 - Boston Blackie25 Apr 202100:57:02

Season Two of Old-Time Radio Essentials continues! We introduce our new co-host this episode -- and we hope you enjoy the New Dave! This installment is our fourth for 2021, and Paul gets two choices in a row for some reason, so he selected an episode of Boston Blackie entitled "Murder at the Rodeo" for us to discuss.

So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our twenty-third number (but 10th official episode of S2), this episode of Boston Blackie from 1946. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it!

SAVE THE LAST WORD FOR ME E2 - Lauren Shippen & Julia Morizawa02 Apr 202100:43:35

SAVE THE LAST WORD FOR ME #2: Chatting with Lauren Shippen & Julia Morizawa of "The Bright Sessions" (9/2016)

Again from our archives, we present the 2nd episode of a discussion podcast that I had high hopes for, but which only went for 9 episodes or so. But the discussions are fun and if you're interested in voice actors' lives, we delve pretty deep in these interviews.

Lauren Shippen is the creator of The Bright Sessions -- an audio drama that was a huge hit. Julia Morizawa played the title character, Dr. Bright, a psychiatrist who specialized in troubled teens. Their show is still available although no longer in production, I believe, and I recommend you check it out.

I'll be posting these re-runs monthly -- they originally launched on a different platform that I never use anymore, so you probably never heard of this show. Still, I hope you'll listen and enjoy.

SAVE THE LAST WORD FOR ME #1: Chatting with the Audioblivious Gang (8/2016)

Here's a gem from the archives, the inaugural episode of a discussion podcast that I had high hopes for, but which only went for 8 episodes or so. But the discussions are fun and if you're interested in voice actors' lives, we delve pretty deep in these interviews.

Unfortunately, "Audioblivious" doesn't exist anymore, but I have grown close to several of the people in this episode: Austin Beach and Sarah Golding, for two, who since this interview have made great strides in audio drama, so you should look 'em up and see what they're doing these days.

I'll be posting these re-runs monthly -- they originally launched on a different platform that I never use anymore, so you probably never heard of this show. Still, I hope you'll listen and enjoy.

OLD-TIME RADIO ESSENTIALS Ep. 22 - Duffy's Tavern14 Mar 202101:01:17

Season Two of Old-Time Radio Essentials continues! This installment is our third for 2021, and we finally come back around to Paul, whose choice for this episode is an entry in the Duffy's Tavern series, just in time for St. Patrick's Day, with guest star Pat O'Brien. Archie and the gang are getting Duffy's Tavern decorated for the wedding anniversary of the boss and his wife, and film star O'Brien drops by to lend a hand.

CRADE'S IN THE CATTLE (Bell's in the Batfry Spoof)04 Feb 202100:13:45

Fans of the Narada Radio Company -- all two of you -- will likely have noticed that Mr. John Bell has taken part in many of our productions over the course of the last two years or so. John is a man of many voices, and a fantastic sense of humor, and his own comedy series, "Bell's in the Batfry", has been going strong for more more than a dozen years.

As a tribute to the man, I wrote and performed all of the characters in a spoof of his show, which I called "Crade's in the Cattle", much in the same way John voices 99.9% of the characters in his show (he does bring in occasional guest voices).

You won't get the joke if you don't listen to BITB, so please go to the Mutual Audio Network and subscribe to the Friday Follies so you can hear a multitude of the back catalog; and to the Sunday Showcase, so you can hear new ones every other week. THEN come back and listen to this one.

PROJECT AUDION 56 - Jack Benny/James Stewart10 Jul 202400:36:24

PROJECT AUDION EPISODE 56 - The Jack Benny Program w/guest star James Stewart (orig. rel. 6/14/24)

Project Audion once again brings you laughs, with an all-new original episode of the Jack Benny Program sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes. This Audion Original was written for us by former Bob Hope staff writer Robert L. Mills. Jack Benny was his childhood comedy inspiration, and once again Mr. Mills has recreated that classic Benny style and humor so faithfully, it's like discovering a lost episode! This week, Jack has snagged Jimmy Stewart as his guest star, so the Benny gang (Mary Livingston, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Mel Blanc, and the rest) can stage their send-up of the Alfred Hitchcock film "The Man Who Knew Too Much." Also, after a trying violin lesson with Professor LeBlanc, Jack faces a tax audit which requires a trip to the IRS to explain some of his more mysterious deductions. Performing live in our virtual Zoom studio, our coast-to-coast cast and crew once again capture the sound of the Benny show right down to the studio audience. Tune in and join in the laughter!

OLD-TIME RADIO ESSENTIALS Ep. 20 - Fibber McGee and Molly24 Jan 202101:02:11

Season Two of Old-Time Radio Essentials continues! This installment is our first for 2021, and Pete's choice, so he's bringing us an episode of "Fibber McGee & Molly": PIONEER DAYS. Will our discussion cause Dave to apply Johnson's Glo-Coat to his cat? TUNE IN AND FIND OUT!

So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our twentieth number (but 7th official episode of S2), this episode of "Fibber McGee & Molly" from 1946. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it! Happy New Year!

THE CELLAR Ep. 10 - The Dead Man17 Jan 202100:36:38

"The Dead Man", adapted from a story by Ray Bradbury

"Do you dare to go down into...THE CELLAR?"

Welcome to the tenth number in our continuing horror/suspense anthology series! Our stories are either original, or inspired by, or adapted from pulp fiction and classic literature, but they're guaranteed all-new productions, and no repeats from other series.

We know it's been about 10 months since our last "Cellar" episode, and we are glad to be back! Production on the series was halted due to many other projects that Pete got involved in, but he hopes to keep his eye on the ball, and his hand on the tiller, and his nose to the grindstone...and his butt in the producer's chair!

And with that being said...we proudly present "The Dead Man", adapted by our director Pete Lutz, from a pulp-fiction story by Ray Bradbury -- a young man in a small town is ridiculed by his fellow denizens because he claims he's dead. But is he? ENJOY, my friends!

ADVENTURES OF THE FEDERATED TEC #3 - Slippery Fingers15 Jan 202100:32:20

"Adventures of the Federated Tec"! A series of 8 initial episodes of 7 dramatized stories featuring Dashiell Hammett's nameless detective. We call him the Federated Tec ("Tec" being short for detective), but you probably know him as something else. We've chosen Hammett's first few stories that have moved into the public domain, and have done our best to stay true to the originals -- and why not? The originals are just fine, as far as we're concerned.

So here is episode three, "Slippery Fingers", adapted by Pete Lutz from Hammett's third published Op story, in 1923. We hope you enjoy it and will join us for future episodes.

PRESENTING...AN ALL-NEW MUSICAL AUDIO COMEDY -- In the style of a Marx Brothers movie! It's Do I Specter? I'll Say I Do! produced especially for World Audio Drama Day 2020.

Written, produced and directed by life-long Marx Brothers fan Pete Lutz, 63audio presents a scenario unlike anything seen in any Marx Bros. film:

Mr. Woodrow Fillmore Protoplasm is a ghost-hunter, hired to rid Stately Manor on Long Island of the ghost of the widow's late husband, who refuses to cross over. A little later, he's also hired by an Italian piano player whose brother's ghost won't cross over, either. And then, Protoplasm's son meets up with yet another ghost, who's been hiding in Stately Manor for 30 years! It's spooks a-plenty for our heroes, and for you, our listeners!

Chock-full of Marx-style humor and hijinks, this new play also features two new songs, composed especially for this production by Pete Lutz, and orchestrated by Dr. Ross Bernhardt. Set your Ouija Boards for laughter!

DISCLAIMER: This production was recorded remotely during the month of September 2020 in the (soon-to-be-historical, we hope) COVID-19 pandemic. Sound quality of the actors' microphones as a result varies. We hope this does not take away from your overall enjoyment of this play. (But if it does, well, there's not much you can do about it.) Thank you.  Thank YOH!

SNEAK PREVIEW 2: Song Samples for "Do I Specter?"28 Sep 202000:01:49

With a planned release on World Audio Drama Day, October 30th, DO I SPECTER? I'LL SAY I DO! Is bound to go down in the history books as something that somebody wrote and a few other people performed! Who can ask for better than that, I ask you? Anyway, here's a sneak preview of three musical numbers that will be performed in this all-new comedy!

First you'll hear Jamison Protoplasm and his father Woodrow Fillmore Protoplasm singing a snippet of "I've Never Met a Ghost (That I Believed In); that's followed by a small smackerel of Lillian Stately and Jamison singing the love duet, "Phantom Love"; and finally we'll hear Rigatoni playing a sample his obligatory piano solo (with his brother Shadow coming in on the harp towards the end).

Enjoy, and be sure to return to this spot (or a similar spot, or a polka-dot, or even a paisley -- whatever you like) on October 30th to hear the whole dang thing!

PROJECT AUDION Ep 55 - Suspense12 May 202400:47:13

SUSPENSE, Episode 55

Premiered May 10, 2024

Suspense is one of classic radio's most highly-regarded dramas -- with good reason. It sustained a remarkably high quality level of dramatic tension for 20 years, as the many surviving recordings attest. But a handful of episodes are lost - and Project Audion now recreates one of them. "The Life of Nellie James" was intended as Suspense's premiere, but circumstances pushed it back to the third episode. It was performed once, live, on July 1, 1942, but never heard again. Until now -- as Project Audion, kicking off its fifth season, brings together a transcontinental cast in a live transcription of "The Life of Nellie James" from the original 1942 script. A dreadful murder takes place in the Simon James home, and justice is done ...or is it? It's a tale well-calculated to keep you in ...Suspense!

Featured in our cast are –

Patte Rosebank in Canada

Tim Burns in Kansas

Andy Hartson-Bowyer in Virginia

Richard Huitema in Florida

Mel Rose in Pennsylvania

Pete Lutz in Texas

Art Brown in California

Denny Thompson in Colorado

Frank Guglielmelli in Pennsylvania

Sharon Grunwald in New Jersey

SNEAK PREVIEW: Fanfare & Overture for "Do I Specter?"04 Sep 202000:01:04

COMING SOON to this feed, especially for World Audio Drama Day 2020 -- an all-new comedy tribute to those masters of comedy mayhem, the Marx Brothers!

DO I SPECTER? I'LL SAY I DO! was written by Pete Lutz and inspired by his life-long love of Los Hermanos Marx, and includes representations of all four brothers, plus other familiar character archetypes from their films -- except this time, they're placed in a situation unlike any seen in their 13 movies.

This new feature is cast with wonderful voices (a mix of amateur and professional actors) and terrific gags, which Marxian experts have deemed worthy of the brothers themselves! It includes two brand-new songs, "I Never Met a Ghost That I Believed In", and "Phantom Love", composed and with lyrics by Pete Lutz, and orchestrated by Dr. Ross Bernhardt, who has himself composed many wonderful musical passages for the Narada Radio Company.

So here is the opening fanfare and the overture for DO I SPECTER? I'LL SAY I DO!, and we sincerely hope you like it and will come back at the end of October to hear the full program!

Created especially for Sonic Summerstock Playhouse 2020, we present a loving re-creation of several sketches from my favorite radio comedy duo, Bob & Ray. These sketches were drawn from their 1980s-era radio show for NPR. Directed by Pete Lutz and post-produced by John Bell, with music by Dr. Ross Bernhardt.

JOHN BELL as Bob Elliott
