Organizing with Intention | Jenny Albertini (EP350)

jeudi 29 août 2024Duration 34:49

In today's episode, Diane interviews Jenny Albertini, a former global health practitioner turned professional organizer. Jenny shares her journey from working in public health to embracing the KonMari method, a minimalist approach to decluttering that emphasizes joy and usefulness. She discusses the biological, behavioral, and structural factors that contribute to clutter and how understanding these elements can help people manage their spaces more effectively.

About Jenny

Jenny Albertini has been organizing health systems and closets around the world for more than two decades. At 36, she left a high-flying career in international health to train under Marie Kondo and become one of her first certified KonMari MethodTM consultants, where she focused on finding joy within piles of clutter. While putting in thousands of hours of professional organizing Jenny has been featured on PBS, NBC, in the Washington Post, Apartment Therapy and many other media outlets. Recognized for her work fighting the AIDS epidemic while waging war on clutter, she has found a unique way to infuse public health into the professional organizing field. Now, nearly a decade into her career transition, Jenny's first book guides readers through how decluttering mindfully can improve our well-being. She lives in Washington, DC.

On her 33rd birthday, Hannah Brencher felt a nudge to turn off her phone. Reflecting on a year filled with exhaustion, anxiety, and burnout, she questioned whether being fully present in the moment—and being enough—was possible. What began as a single day of unplugging for celebration, connection, and rest, soon evolved into a yearlong challenge: 1,000 hours without screens.

In today's conversation, author, TED Speaker, and entrepreneur Hannah Brencher shares her journey from feeling overwhelmed to finding balance and abundance through just a few tech-free hours each day. With a relatable and practical approach, she shows how setting healthy boundaries with technology is achievable. Are you ready to unplug?

EP281: Too Many Clothes, Nothing to Wear with Erin Flynn (@cladwellapp)

mardi 6 juin 2023Duration 28:05

“I have too many clothes but nothing to wear.” It’s a common phrase that many of us think as we peer into our closets. But is there a solution? It’s my personal belief that decluttering can absolutely solve this problem; however, I think there are even more ways we can address this mentality. Joining me today to help find solutions to closet overwhelm is founder of the Cladwell app, Erin Flynn. As a working mom with limited time, Erin understands the challenges that many of us face when it comes to our wardrobes. She believes in the concept of "less is more," helping people refine their personal style, shop smarter, and get creative with their existing wardrobe. Erin emphasizes the importance of normalizing outfit repeats, living intentionally, shopping from our own closets, and, of course, clearing the clutter. The episode delves into these topics and more!

EP280: Am I a Minimalist Because I'm Surrounded By MAXIMALISTS? with Melissa Risenhoover

mercredi 31 mai 2023Duration 27:58

If you’ve been pursuing a minimalist lifestyle for awhile now, have you ever thought to yourself, “Am I a minimalist because I’m surrounded by maximalists?” In other words, am I able to enjoy the lavishness of someone else’s lifestyle without having to live that way in my day-to-day? The thought crossed my mind a few years back and I knew I wanted to discuss the idea on a future episode. Joining me for this conversation is Melissa Risenhoover. Fun fact about this episode: Melissa and I actually recorded at the beginning of 2021. We put the release date on hold due to Melissa’s move to Shanghai. When I finally went back to look for the recording, I thought I had lost it only to discover it last week on an old computer. After listening back, I knew this was a sentiment I wanted to share with all of you. There isn’t necessarily a conclusion we come to during the conversation, I do believe it’s something each person must conclude for themselves. If anything, I hope this dialogue gives you something to think about as you process why minimalism is important to you and your family.

Right Where You Belong with Heather MacFadyen (Bonus Episode)

samedi 20 mai 2023Duration 28:00

Many Christians are stuck an in-between space of trying to do too much or too little. What we call purpose or vocation or calling can often seem so elusive—but God’s assignment for our each of our lives has distinguishable boundaries that encourage us to live according to His will.

These boundaries are what Heather MacFadyen is here to help people discover in her new book, Right Where You Belong: How to Identify and Fully Occupy Your God-Given Space. On today’s episode,

Heather answers questions such as:

  • What do we do when life doesn’t look the way we expect
  • How do we handle change (as it relates to career, marriage, parenting, and more)
  • Why striving for purpose doesn’t always lead us to the right purpose
  • How to better understand God’s assignment for our lives
  • How to overcome the feeling of “missing out” (especially when struggling with comparison)
  • ….and more…

I release bonus episodes that serve a niche part of my audience so if this episode isn't something that fits what you’re looking for, check out the other episode that dropped this week with Rina Bliss or join me back here next Tuesday for an episode that you don’t want to miss!
