Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now. You’ve read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix. But what if personal development could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change? What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of trudging through and wishing for the weekend? As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of women in midlife find success and confidence. This transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now. Join us each week as Cheryl, her guests, and her clients share with you how to feel confident in your body, your decisions, and your goals - and create a midlife that you love. The Power of Affirmations with "But" (OMG Take Five)

Season 1

vendredi 18 octobre 2024Duration 04:24

Affirmations are one of my favorite tools for transforming your mindset and belief about various aspects of your life.  But, if your brain immediately argues with you as soon as you affirm something about great success or exciting things happening, you are losing the benefit of the affirmation.

What to do? Include a "but" in the middle!

Today I'm sharing a method for creating affirmations that you actually CAN believe, get excited about, and use over and over again to start moving toward to your goals.

Make sure to listen to the full affirmation episode:

Send me your questions or share your experiences with this! www.bit.ly/omgspeaktome.

Ep. 25: What you didn’t know about your nervous system, weight loss and safety

Season 1 · Episode 25

mardi 10 octobre 2023Duration 39:28

You decide to get in shape, or lose (release) weight, or make a life change... and a few weeks into it you get frustrated.  It seems as if nothing is changing, and you find yourself falling back into old habits.

Why? Your nervous system is signaling to you that it's not safe to make that change.

Let's talk about weight loss and safety.  Your nervous system is in control and is working from ideas you absorbed when you were a child - about whether exercise is good or is punishment and about how it's ok to look or act.

There is a mind-body connection regarding healthy living and we're breaking that down to help you to understand it - and giving some tips for regulating your nervous system as well. Wellness and the autonomic nervous system is a key area of study right now, and you'll see why from my guest Meggie Martin, of Strong as a Mother.

Connect with Meggie on Instagram and check out all her programs at meggiemartin.com.  Find Jessica Maguire on Instagram to find out more about the nervous system as well.

Ep. 24: Should You Listen to the Voice in Your Head? Yes, if it’s Intuition

Season 1 · Episode 24

mardi 3 octobre 2023Duration 28:52

A gut feeling... a hunch... a thought that comes out of nowhere... a sense that something is just off... We've all noticed our intuition warning us about simple things or major things.

It sounds like a good idea to listen to your instincts or trust your gut, but how can we learn to do this better?  How can we get better at making sure our intuition catches our attention, and how can we tell whether it truly is intuition or it's just the fear talking in our brains?

We're talking about practical tips and fun exercises to learn how to listen to your inner voice, help that inner voice (your subconscious mind) speak more loudly, and know whether it's actually intuition talking. This is a fascinating topic and it will make a difference in your decision making, and your life.

Ep. 23: Giggle Your Way to a Better Life: Embracing Authenticity and Laughter

Season 1 · Episode 23

mardi 26 septembre 2023Duration 39:56

I'm fairly sure none of us had a laughter class in school, and what a shame because there are laughter benefits that affect our mood, hormones, health, and relationships in a powerful way.

Sara Alepin and Kristina Kury from the Laughing with Gingers podcast join me today to talk (and giggle) about all things laughter!

We're spending some time on the power of laughter, being your authentic self, laughing for emotional well-being, and making sure to be the leading character in your own life.

Did you know that laughter is good for stress reduction and gives us an immune system boost? Or that gut deep laughter may actually help us release fat?!

Listen in!  And if you aren't laughing at the end of this episode, I'll be surprised.  ;)

Ep. 22: Sleep - Let’s Talk About Sleep Benefits and Sleep Solutions

Season 1 · Episode 22

mardi 19 septembre 2023Duration 30:59

OMG, we really do need to sleep! When sleep becomes difficult and when we deal with sleep deprivation and sleep problems, we know we need to do something differently.

What about when we are trying to live in a healthier way? Sleep affects our immune system and our hormone levels, and there is a direct link between sleep and mental health.

This week I'm joined by Cherie Tripp, a Certified Health Coach and Licensed Brain Trainer, and we're talking through sleep and well-being.  Cherie explains what the body and brain are doing while we sleep (hint - important things!), and how much sleep is typically ideal.

She provides us with some bedtime routines and some tips on what to do when you can't fall asleep or wake up during the night. Healthy sleep habits are a major piece of a healthy lifestyle. And once you hear our chat about jet-lag and trying to sleep on airplanes, let me know your solutions too!

Find and connect with Cherie by following her blog at www.cherietripp.com.  She has a recent article on foods to fight insomnia that you will want to see.  You can follow Cherie on Instagram @cherietripp, Facebook at Cherie Tripp, Health Coach, and Linked In at Cherie Tripp, CPA.

Sleep well, my friends!

Ep. 20: Stay Calm, Stay Informed: Strategies for Political Serenity

Season 1 · Episode 20

mardi 5 septembre 2023Duration 36:11

Our world is rife with political rhetoric and arguments over both the facts of a situation and the solutions.  If we know that minimizing stress is a significant part of living healthy, how do we manage our stress while being informed politically?  How do we keep our blood pressures low and avoid sticking our heads in the sand about major issues in the world?

My guest today is Laura Vaught, who leads the Federal Affairs office for a major energy company and has had many years of experience on Capitol Hill as well.  I'm asking Laura how we can be informed, take an interest... and not drive ourselves nuts.

We talk about:

  • the idea of taking breaks from all the news sometimes,
  • having a group to act as a sounding board,
  • starting with issues at the local level, and
  • even just changing the subject when things get tense.

This episode does not take sides on any political issue (we're a safe space!), and does provide you with some ideas for how to navigate the next year or more during turbulent political times.

I would love to continue this discussion with you.  Please find me on Instagram, Linked In, or Facebook and let me know what you think!

Ep. 19: Taming Negativity With the Power of Self Talk

Season 1 · Episode 19

mardi 29 août 2023Duration 42:14

Faith Hoskins joins me this week for an episode that you may want to listen to a few times.  We're talking about self-talk... that voice in our heads that is going all day long.  Our brains have a bias towards negativity, so Faith walks us through ways that we can start to shift that negativity and allow ourselves to consider a positive outcome.

Why is this so powerful? Our thoughts impact our emotions which impact how we show up in the world.  Some of the tips and advice in this episode will help you show up a little more powerfully - and definitely more kindly towards yourself.

Find Faith at furtherup.org and @furtherupcoaching on Instagram.

Her book recommendation is on the podcast recommended list here and you can find all the podcast resources here.
