What would you do if you found a backpack containing thousands of pounds in cash?

Thatโ€™s the moral dilemma at the heart ofย T.M. Loganโ€™s gripping psychological thrillerย The Weekendย - a story about friendship, secrets, temptation and how quickly everything can unravel when money enters the equation.

In this episode ofย Book Club | Michelle Ford Interviews, Iโ€™m joined by Sunday Times bestselling authorย T.M. Loganย to talk about his latest thriller,ย The Weekend.

Six old friends head to a converted farmhouse in the Yorkshire Dales for a New Yearโ€™s Eve weekend. During a walk, theyโ€™re caught in a storm and take shelter in an old lead mine. There, they make an extraordinary discovery: a backpack containing more money than theyโ€™ve ever seen.

Of course, they know they should hand it straight to the police.

But as the storm continues and the weekend unfolds, temptation starts to take hold. Each of the friends has their own problems โ€” debt, obsession, career worries and secrets โ€” and suddenly that seemingly simple decision becomes much more complicated.

As cracks begin to appear in the friendships,ย The Weekendย becomes a tense exploration ofย trust, betrayal, greed, friendship and the choices we make when we think nobody is watching.

T.M. Logan is the Sunday Times bestselling author ofย The Holiday,ย The Curfew,ย The Catch,ย The Daughter,ย Liesย andย 29 Seconds. His thrillers have sold more than three million copies in the UK and have been translated into more than 20 languages.ย The Holidayย was selected for the Richard & Judy Book Club and adapted into a four-part television drama, whileย The Catchย was also adapted for television.

In our conversation, we talk about the fascinatingย โ€œwhat would you do?โ€ dilemmaย at the centre ofย The Weekend, the psychology of temptation, whether we ever really know our closest friends, and why moral grey areas make such compelling thriller territory.

T.M. has said that the idea was inspired partly by his fascination with the choices people make when faced with a difficult moral dilemma - and by thrillers such as Scott Smithโ€™sย A Simple Plan.

The Weekendย is out now in hardback, paperback, ebook and audiobook.

Book Club | Dame Stella Rimington | The Hidden Hand03 sept. 202600:18:15
๐Ÿ“š Dame Stella Rimington onย The Hidden Hand

In this very special episode ofย Michelle Ford Interviews, Michelle revisits herย first ever Book Club conversation, recorded in January 2025 with Dame Stella Rimington, the pioneering former Director General of MI5, about her final novel,ย The Hidden Hand.

The novel is a gripping contemporary spy thriller set partly at Oxford University, where a Chinese study centre is secretly recruiting students to steal valuable research and intellectual property. When the centre's new head discovers its sinister purpose, he turns to CIA agent Manon Tyler for help.

With her extraordinary career inside MI5 - including becoming theย first woman to serve as Director Generalย - Stella brought a unique authenticity to her espionage fiction.

What makes this interview particularly poignant is that Dame Stella sadly died in August 2025, aged 90, just seven months after this conversation was recorded.

It is therefore a privilege to be able to share one of her final conversations, in which Michelle talks to her about writing, espionage, her remarkable career andย The Hidden Hand.

This interview marked the beginning ofย Michelle's Book Club on Brooklands Radio, where Michelle continues to chat to authors everyย Thursday afternoon.

Book Club | A A Dhand | The Chemist & The Kingpin01 sept. 202600:21:27
๐Ÿ“š A.A. Dhand onย The Chemistย &ย The Kingpin

In this episode ofย Michelle Ford Interviews, Michelle chats to Sunday Times bestselling crime writerย A.A. Dhandย about his gripping Idris Khan series,ย The Chemistย and its explosive sequel,ย The Kingpin.

The Chemistย introducesย Idris Khan, a respected pharmacist in Leeds who dispenses methadone and knows far more about his patients - and the secrets they carry - than anyone might imagine. When his childhood sweetheart fails to turn up for her daily dose, Idris goes looking for her and finds himself caught in the middle of a dangerous turf war between Yorkshire drug cartels.

Inย The Kingpin, Idris is changed by what has happened to him. When his estranged brotherย Zidaneย arrives fresh out of prison with an audacious plan to take control of the drug trade across Leeds and Bradford, Idris faces an even bigger choice: walk away or become the very thing he's always feared -ย the Kingpin.

Michelle and Amit talk aboutย crime, drugs, morality, family, the darker side of Yorkshire and the real-life experiences that helped inspire the novels. Having worked as a pharmacist himself, Dhand drew on what he witnessed during years working at the sharp end of community pharmacy to create the world of Idris.

If you loveย crime fiction, psychological thrillers, gritty British crime, Yorkshire noir and fast-paced, twisty storytelling, this is one to add to your listening list.

Bowel Cancer | A Doctorโ€™s Guide to Signs You Should Never Ignore | Dr Anisha Patel21 avr. 202600:35:40

In this special bonus episode, Michelle Ford is joined by Dr Anisha Patel (@doctorsgetcancertoo), a doctor and patient advocate who shares her powerful first-hand experience of bowel cancer.

"There is a global epidemic of this and it's been in the news loads. There was a huge study in The Lancet recently where 27 out of 50 countries have seen this rise in the under 50s. And Cancer Research UK actually published figures that all cancers have risen by 24% since 1995 to 2019 and bowel cancer specifically has risen by 50 % in the last 25 years, which is just shocking really." Dr Anisha Patel

As we mark Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, this conversation shines a light on a growing and often overlooked issue - more younger people are being diagnosed, often without the typical risk factors.

Dr Anisha talks openly about her journey to diagnosis, the realities of navigating the healthcare system as both a doctor and a patient, and why we all need to be better at listening to our bodies and 'knowing our normal'.

โš ๏ธ Why this matters

Bowel cancer is no longer just a disease affecting older people. Rates in under-50s are rising, and many are diagnosed later because symptoms can be missed or dismissed. Early detection is key - and awareness can save lives. The survival rate for bowel cancer is 90% if caught early enough. If you were born in 1990 or later your chances of getting bowel cancer have increased 4X.

๐Ÿง  What we cover in this episode
  • The rise of bowel cancer in younger people
  • Dr Anishaโ€™s personal story and diagnosis
  • Why some patients donโ€™t fit the โ€œtypicalโ€ risk profile
  • The importance of being listened to - and advocating for yourself
  • How lifestyle, environment, and genetics may all play a role - Dr Anisha talks about the importance of fibre in our diet

๐Ÿšจ Symptoms not to ignore

Dr Anisha shares the key signs to look out for and an acronym to help you remember:

  • B - Blood in your stool
  • O - Obvious changes in bowel habits
  • W - Unexplained weight loss
  • E - Extreme tiredness
  • L - lumps in tummy - abdominal pain or discomfort

If something doesnโ€™t feel right and it persists - get it checked - and don't ignore that NHS poop check. It only takes a second and could make all the difference.

๐ŸŽฏ Key takeaway

You are never too young to know your body. Paying attention to changes and acting early can make all the difference.

๐ŸŽง Listen now to hear the full conversation and Dr Anishaโ€™s powerful message on awareness, advocacy, and early detection.

Alex Partridge | ADHD and Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria17 mars 202600:29:28
Understanding Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria with Alex Partridge

In this bonus episode ofย Two Women Chatting, Michelle speaks withย Alex Partridge, host ofย ADHD Chatter podcastย and author ofย Why Does Everybody Hate Me? Living and Loving with Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria.

Together they exploreย Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD)ย - an intense emotional response to perceived criticism or rejection that is commonly experienced by people with ADHD or autism. Alex shares personal insights into how RSD can shape relationships, self-confidence and everyday interactions.

What is Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria?

Alex explains that RSD is one of the most challenging aspects of living with ADHD. Even small comments or situations - like a boss asking for a quick chat - can trigger overwhelming anxiety and catastrophic thinking. These reactions are often rooted in years of criticism or misunderstanding during childhood.

The Emotional Impact

For many people, RSD can cause powerful emotional responses that feel disproportionate to the situation. Feelings of sadness, anger or panic can escalate quickly, creating a cycle of shame and regret once the emotional response has passed.

Relationships and Self-Perception

Michelle and Alex discuss how RSD can affect both personal and professional relationships. When feedback feels like a personal attack, people may react defensively or impulsively - quitting jobs, withdrawing from relationships or later apologising for emotional reactions they feel embarrassed about.

The People-Pleasing Trap

Alex highlights how many people with RSD develop people-pleasing behaviours in an attempt to avoid rejection. While it can feel protective in the moment, constantly prioritising other peopleโ€™s needs can lead to unhealthy dynamics and difficulty setting boundaries.

Women and ADHD

The conversation also touches on the unique challenges faced by women with ADHD, many of whom are diagnosed later in life. Alex emphasises the importance of giving women a stronger voice in the neurodiversity conversation, particularly around hormonal changes and how ADHD can present differently for women.

Key Takeaways

โ€ข Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria can trigger intense emotional reactions to perceived criticism.

โ€ข These reactions can create a cycle of shame that affects relationships and self-confidence.

โ€ข People-pleasing is a common coping strategy but can lead to unhealthy patterns.

โ€ข Women with ADHD often face unique challenges and are frequently diagnosed later in life.

Through his honesty and advocacy, Alex Partridge helps bring greater understanding to RSD and offers reassurance to anyone who has struggled with feeling overwhelmed by criticism or rejection.

Emma Bardwell | Why Fibre Might Be the Midlife Superpower Youโ€™re Missing25 nov. 202500:32:21

In this fun, laugh-filled and genuinely eye-opening episode, Michelle Ford sits down with womenโ€™s health nutritionist Emma Bardwell to tackle one of the most underrated pillars of midlife wellbeing: fibre - the true unsung hero of womenโ€™s health. Between giggles over โ€œpoophoriaโ€ (yes, itโ€™s a thing!) and some serious myth-busting, Michelle and Emma unpack why getting enough fibre and protein is essential - especially if youโ€™re using GLP-1 weight-loss injections like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro. As Emma explains, these medications slow digestion, making fibre even more important for gut motility, nutrient absorption and long-term health.

Forget fibreโ€™s dusty, boring reputation - this episode gives it a full glow-up. Through perimenopause and menopause, when hormones fluctuate and the gut becomes increasingly linked to mood, energy and resilience, fibre becomes a midlife powerhouse. Michelle and Emma explore how nourishing your gut supports immunity, mental wellbeing, metabolism and overall vitality, and why our midlife microbiome deserves centre stage. With Emmaโ€™s straight-talking, practical approach, youโ€™ll learn simple, everyday ways to boost your fibre intake - no chia-seed obsession required.

By the end, youโ€™ll never look at your plate (or your bowel movements!) the same way again.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Key Insights

โ€ข Fibre lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and colon cancer

โ€ข A high-fibre diet reduces inflammation and supports a stronger immune system

โ€ข Good gut health boosts brain health and emotional wellbeing

โ€ข Fibre may help remove microplastics from the body

โ€ข Protein + fibre is the midlife power combo - stabilising energy, supporting hormone balance and improving satiety

โ€ข Talking openly about gut health (and yes, poo!) helps normalise midlife wellbeing

Together, they explore how fluctuating hormones, juggling life in the sandwich generation, and seeing their children diagnosed are prompting many women to finally recognise traits in themselves. But this isnโ€™t about โ€œjumping on a trendโ€ - itโ€™s about understanding how ADHD can show up differently in women, and why itโ€™s been hidden for so long.

Dr Helen shares how similar symptoms in peri menopause - like forgetfulness, mood swings and overwhelm - can make things even more confusing, and offers surprising insight into how your old school reports might actually hold the key to telling the difference.

From practical advice on getting the most out of your GP appointment to discovering the positives of an ADHD brain - creativity, energy and empathy -ย this conversation is empowering, informative and full of lightbulb moments.

If youโ€™ve ever wondered whether your struggles with focus, organisation or burnout could mean more than โ€œjust hormones,โ€ this episode will help you make sense of it all - and take practical steps toward understanding yourself better.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Key Insights:

  • Why so many midlife women are only now recognising ADHD
  • How to tell the difference between ADHD and perimenopause symptoms

Summer Rewind: Andrea McLean on Midlife Reinvention, Loneliness & the Power of No22 juil. 202500:38:43

Weโ€™re rewinding to one of our most inspiring chats onย Two Women Chattingย with the brilliantย Andrea McLeanย - bestselling author, broadcaster and midlife reinvention queen.

In this episode, Andrea gets real about theย internal monologueย of a midlife woman - from the fear of sayingย "no", to feeling small, stuck, or suddenly invisible. She talks candidly aboutย loneliness,ย starting over, and creating aย roadmapย for lifeโ€™s big decisions (even when they lead to gloriously messy detours).

And yes - we absolutely discuss the time she was interviewingย Oprah Winfreyย while battling excessive nervous sweating, so intense she had to pad her armpits withย pantyliners. Nowย thatโ€™sย what we call menopause multitasking!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Itโ€™s funny, itโ€™s fearless, and itโ€™s packed with the kind of honesty we all need more of.

๐Ÿ‘‰ย Press play if you're ready for a bold, brilliant dose of midlife mojo.

Summer Rewind: Louise Minchin on Empty Nesting and Reinvention in Midlife08 juil. 202500:27:44

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Summer Rewind: Louise Minchin on Empty Nesting and Reinvention in Midlife

In this specialย Summer Rewindย episode from theย Two Women Chattingย archive,ย Liz and Michelleย revisit their inspiring conversation with TV presenter, journalist and authorย Louise Minchin. Louise opens up about her deeply personal journey throughย empty nest syndrome, sharing the unexpected grief and sense of loss she felt when both her daughters left home for university.

Louise explains how she overcame this emotional rollercoaster by setting new challenges: becoming anย endurance athlete, pushing herself out of her comfort zone, and chronicling her adventures with remarkable women in her bestselling book,ย Fearless. From swimming through shark-infested waters to Alcatraz to ice diving, Louise shows how embracing adventure and focusing on what your body canย doย โ€” rather than how it looks โ€” can transform your midlife years.

This episode offers practical advice and inspiration for anyone facing the empty nest: learn to celebrate your achievements, set fresh goals, and reinvent yourself at any stage of life.

For more resources, visit ourย Midlife Libraryย and blog on empty nest syndrome atย twowomenchatting.com.

๐Ÿ”‘ย Key takeaways:

โœ… Louise was surprised by the intensity of grief she felt when her daughters first left home.

โœ… She describes parenting at this stage as a rollercoaster โ€” no longer being in control.

โœ… Finding new challenges helped her cope: endurance sports, triathlons, and writing books.

โœ… Celebrate what your bodyย can do, not just how it looks.

โœ… Reinventing your career in midlife is possible and exciting โ€” Louise proudly now calls herself a writer.

โœ… Set small goals, step outside your comfort zone, and donโ€™t let fear of failure stop you.

๐ŸŒŸย Best moments:"I was really... extraordinarily unprepared for her leaving home.""You've got to go with a different kind of rollercoaster. One where you are not in control anymore.""I'm proud of what my body can do, not about what it looks like.""I walked in going, I'm a writer. And that's so exciting.""Don't be afraid to fall flat on your face."
