DESTRUCTOR- 80’s thrasher’s story of earning major record deal, band ending tragedy and a 2022 comeback. Great walk down Heavy Metal Memory Lane.

Episode 251

jeudi 18 août 2022Duration 59:28

Cleveland, Ohio's DESTRUCTOR was a 1980s thrash metal band whose brief career was curtailed by tragedy. Formed in 1983 by spectacularly renamed members Dave Overkill (vocals/guitar), Pat Rabid (guitar), Paul Warhead (bass), and perhaps best of all, Matt Flammable (drums), Destructor jumped the thrash metal bandwagon hot on the heels of pioneers like Metallica and Slayer. 1985 saw the release of their Their  full-length debut MAXIMUM DESTRUCTION . Although rough around the edges, the album was big on promise and well received by the metal underground, eventually leading to a major label deal with Island Records  for DESTRUCTOR'S next effort. Recording for the tentatively entitled "Decibel Casualties" began in late 1987, but, tragically, Dave Holocaust was stabbed to death on January 1, 1988; and when their Island deal fell through, DESTRUCTOR decided to call it a day rather than carry on without their slain friend.  Fast forward to summer of 2022, The guys have re-grouped, released new material and are excited about a summer tour of Mexico with NASTY SAVAGE .  We speak with Dave Overkill (vocals/guitar)about the early days, their historic Rochester appearance in March of 1985 , we listen to cuts of an old interview the band conducted with Rochester Metal Radio DJ "THE WARHEAD" from 1985 and just shoot the shit about METAL! A great unique conversation filled with in-depth antidotes and disclosures found only here at Metal Mayhem ROC. Gene Simmons- launches ’Money Bag Sodas’ in collaboration with Niagara Falls, New York-based soda bottlers and die hard KISS fans Paul and John Janik.

Episode 250

jeudi 11 août 2022Duration 38:22

Hello Metal heads. This week's show is a example of "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE" The collaboration between Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, co-founder of KISS and serial entrepreneur Gene Simmons  and partners Paul Janik Jr., John Janik , began with a chance meeting at Cleveland’s “Wizard World” convention. The long time KISS fans were in attendance with the hope of meeting their rock Idol, who was a featured guest at the convention.  John and Paul struck up a soda-centric conversation with the music legend. Simmons asked for their card, and a week later, Paul received a call from Simmons.  John and Paul explain ,in detail, the chain of events from inception to delivery of the soda. HOW the collaboration  with Gene blossomed from a business venture to a true personal friendship. They relive  stories of traveling with KISS , befriending Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer . There are fun antidotes of  hanging out at soundchecks as well  meeting Gene's wife Shannon as guests at their  California home.  “We never dreamed it would be possible to work with someone we have idolized for decades. Gene is the ultimate entrepreneur and a very engaged business partner,” said Paul. “We are honored to have had the opportunity to develop such a rock star-worthy product for soda lovers to enjoy and fans to collect.” “Paul and John have an impeccable work ethic, as well as a prowess in the premium soft drink marketplace,” said Simmons.  This is a great story and exemplifies that anything is possible as long as you take a chance and go for it.
