Dr. Ari Bergmann is the founder and Managing Principal of Penso Advisors, LLC, a New York-based global macro and risk management boutique specializing in derivatives structuring/trading and systemic risk mitigation. Prior to founding the firm in 1997, Dr. Bergmann was a Senior Managing Director at Bankers Trust. 

Ari received a BTL from Ner Israel Rabbinical College in 1981 and furthered his graduate studies at many prestigious Yeshivot in Israel. He holds an MA and Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, where he studied with Professors Yosef Hayim Yerushalmi and David Weiss Halivni. Ari is an Adjunct Professor at Yeshiva University and before coming to YU, he taught at Columbia University and at the University of Pennsylvania. Ari lectures extensively in Israel, Brazil, Europe and the US on topics of Finance, Talmud and Jewish Thought. In this episode Ari discuesses lessons from the Talmud, and how money is fundraised and spent in the Orthodox Jewish Community

Dr. Henry Abramson, a native of northern Ontario, earned a PhD in History from the University of Toronto and has held visiting and post-doctoral positions at Cornell, Harvard, Oxford and the Hebrew University of Toronto. He currently serves as a Dean of Touro University in Brooklyn New York. The author of several books, including Torah from the Years of Wrath, 1939-1943: The Historical Context of the Aish Kodesh, his work has been recognized with received research and teaching fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and he received the Excellence in the Academy Award from the National Education Association. His online lectures on Jewish history have been viewed more than five million times, and he is the author of the Jewish History in Daf Yomi Podcast on All Daf. He is currently working on a major three-volume history of the Jewish people for Koren Publishers.

Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits is an American-born Rav, Rosh Yeshiva, Rosh Kollel, and Posek in Israel. In 2001, he founded The Jerusalem Kollel, a rabbinic ordination and training program that prepares students for kiruv positions worldwide. In 2019, he was appointed rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Aish HaTorah in Yerushalayim. He also serves as Rosh Kollel of an international network of evening Kollelim in Israel and the United States, which spread awareness of the laws of bein adam lechaveiro.

Just as drips of water over millennia can carve out caves and canyons, one small mitzvah multiplied several times over can move mountains as well.

That’s the belief of Dr. Jonathan Donath, a legendary chiropractor in White Plains, New York, who got an epiphany in 2018 while dropping a dollar bill into the tzedakah box at his shul. “No matter how much money I give to charity, I still get a mitzvah every time I drop a dollar in,” he thought. “How can I guarantee that I do this mitzvah every day for a buck?”

He looked for an organization that was doing this and couldn’t find one. So, he and a couple of his friends had a website built and created a nonprofit: dailygiving.org.

Ari Schonbrun was the Chief Administrative Officer of Cantor Fitzgerald, and is an author, speaker and 9/11 survivor.

Ari was on the 78th floor of Tower One when the first plane hit on September 11, 2001. He helped a colleague suffering third-degree burns to safety and was thrown into the national spotlight thereafter. His miraculous first-hand account of survival has been retold in newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, and books.

Mr. Schonbrun is a native New Yorker. He is passionate about philanthropy and serves as a board member of Strength to Strength, a global non-profit organization that works with victims of terror across the world. Ari and his wife, Joyce, live in Cedarhurst with their five children and several grandchildren.
