TNA Slammiversary V wasn't a show that exactly set the woods on fire, but overall, it was a pretty decent show. It was a time capsule of where TNA (now Impact Wrestling) was at the time. Can you believe they started in 2002 and are still around!? The main event is TNA's signature King of the Mountain match between Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and Chris Harris (replacing Jeff Jarrett). Jeff Jarrett couldn't attend the show after the passing of his wife, Jill. Coming out of WrestleMania I, we had Saturday Night's Main Event debuting on NBC in May of 1985! These shows were always structured weird, and this one was the first one to do so. The "main event" was actually the second match on the show, with Hulk Hogan defending the WWF Title against "Cowboy" Bob "Ace" Orton. Wendi Richter also puts her WWF Ladies Wrestling Title on the line against the legendary Fabulous Moolah while Cyndi Lauper cheers her on. The show also takes place on Mother's Day, so we get a lot of special stuff going on to celebrate mothers (oddly enough, Mr. T doesn't talk about his mama). Sixty Men... Three Rings... Three Giants... One Battle Royal! That was the tagline for the very first ever World War 3 event for WCW in 1995. It was not great, but it was unique and it drew a pretty good sized house in Virginia. Johnny B. Badd (not shockingly) opens the show against DDP for the TV Title and it tests the Diamond Doll's allegiances. The All Japan women are in tag-team action that puts what the WWF did a month earlier to shame. Big Bubba Rogers and Jim Duggan face off in a Taped Fist match (yes, really), Sting takes on Ric Flair in a forgotten match-up, and Lex Luger faces an injured "Macho Man" Randy Savage. In the main event, we've got 3 rings, 3 commentary teams, 60 men, 3 giants, and 1 winner. However, the finish was marred with controversy and you'll see why. Eric Bischoff was sent home from WCW around August of 1999, leaving the ship without a definitive captain. Vince Russo showed up in WCW in October of 1999, right before Halloween Havoc, and was gone by January of 2000, right before Souled Out. It's now April and both Bischoff and Russo were brought back by WCW management to work together after the previous regime just wasn't cutting the mustard. What's the brilliant plan here? They're basically resetting the company, starting fresh with storylines and such, stripping all champions of their titles, and holding tournaments to crown new champions. It seemed like a dumb idea at the time and it turned out to be a dumb idea in execution. Will "The King of the Mountain" do what he promised and help Team Angle win, or will he turn his back on them all and face their wrath? Meanwhile, that electrified steel cage was...something. This was better than '95 and '96, but what's that really saying? All in all, the history of WCW's Uncensored pay-per-views have been completely crap. This one was no different. For the 20th In Your House event, there was No Way Out of Texas! The main event was supposed to be the team of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Cactus Jack, & Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk) taking on Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and the New Age Outlaws. Yee haw! This was a Dusty Rhodes creation all the way, inspired by the old west days of farmhands getting into fights at the bunkhouse. However, this show with a southern theme took place in Uniondale, New York...which is clearly well known for their cowboys. The rules of the match were "simple". Just 6 days after Survivor Series 1991, we've got a shortened show titled This Tuesday in Texas. The Undertaker was only 1 year into his WWF run when he defeated the goose that laid the golden eggs, Hulk Hogan, to become WWF Champion on Taker's 1 year anniversary (with the help of Ric Flair). Now, he's the defending champion against The Hulkster. "Macho Man" Randy Savage also looks for revenge on the evil snake man, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, who had been making Savage and Miss Elizabeth's lives a living Hell for months, including crashing their wedding reception and having a cobra bite Macho Man. Bret Hart also takes on Skinner, the British Bulldog does battle with the Warlord, and Repo Man teams with Ted DiBiase against Virgil and El Matador to continue "The Million Dollar Man's" feud with his former "servant." This show took place on December 3, 1991, at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. The event was an attempt by the WWF to establish Tuesday as a secondary pay-per-view night. This one was pumped up as "the biggest Rumble in WWE history" (which had been used multiple times in the past) because the Undertaker, Goldberg, and Brock Lesnar were all entries in the 30-man match. The kick off 2007, Sting could sense "the good" within Abyss and tried to break James Mitchell's "spell" over him. Meanwhile, Christian Cage had his "problem solver" back by his side as Tomko joined TNA, and now, Christian has his eyes set on Abyss's NWA Title. This lead to the Three Way Elimination match that main events Final Resolution '07. On the undercard, Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle are 1-1, both determined to break the tie in a 30-Minute Iron Man match. While 1998 on the whole was a pretty good year in wrestling (maybe one of the best), WCW was about to go on a great, great decline. Goldberg was hot as hell, he was still on his streak, he defeated Hollywood Hogan for the WCW Title in the Georgia Dome, and now, Kevin Nash was heating up right on his heels with a win at World War 3. Besides that, the nWo Black and White was feuding with the nWo Wolfpack. This show opens strong, ends SHOCKINGLY, but all in all, this may have been one of the weaker Starrcade events. Let the Marks (Troy & Greg) tell you a tale of when Chris Jericho defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock in the same night to become the 1st ever WWE Undisputed Champion. Years and years before Jericho became "Le Champion," he was just "Y2J" and hadn't quite broken into the "main event" just yet. This changed everything and solidified Jericho has a top World Title contender and actual World Champion. WCW had officially folded and this was just to pour dirt on the corpse of World Championship Wrestling and bury it forever. Sure, other WCW Titles were floating around, but they'd soon be gone as well. Ric Flair had recently popped up at 50% owner of the WWF as Shane & Stephanie McMahon had sold him their share of the company, so we're leading up to the first ever brand split of Ric Flair's Raw and Vince McMahon's SmackDown. Vince Russo was all but gone from WCW at this point, but the stench remained. Ric Flair looked dead inside as he limped along as the "CEO of WCW," "Above Average" Mike Sanders was ALSO an authority figure as the Commissioner, and no one cared. Almost every match on this card felt like it should have been held on a Nitro or Thunder. Kevin Nash & DDP were teaming up as the Minimal Effort Given Squad to take on Chuck Palumbo and Shawn Stasiak for the WCW Tag Titles in another jumbled whatever of a match. The big, built-up, Straight Jacket Caged Heat main event between Booker T and Scott Steiner for the World Title even felt lacking. But don't worry. Our motto is "We watched it so that you don't have to!" and our breakdown of the utter trash that is this card will be serving you plenty of laughs for Thanksgiving. On November 4, 1996 on WWF Monday night Raw, Stone Cold Steve Austin didn't know who he was f***ing with (according to Brian Pillman). The story of this entire (EXTREMELY controversial) episode of Raw was that Austin felt disrespected by Pillman during the previous week's in-ring segment, he reaggravated Pillman's shattered ankle, and now, Austin was driving from the Cincinnati Airport to Brian's home to break in and beat him up...again! However, Pillman said, "When Austin 3:16 meets Pillman 9mm glock, I'm gonna blast his sorry ass straight to Hell!" The Loose Cannon was waiting with his wife, Melanie, and a loaded handgun.
