| The Real Reason We Started an Open Relationship | 21 Jan 2026 | 00:53:18 | |
In this episode of Lovers, I’m joined by my husband Jared Brady to tell the story of the exact day we decided to call our relationship an open relationship. Want to take the Relationship Style quiz I mentioned in the episode? Click HERE In this episode, Shan Boodram and Jared Brady share intimate details from the early days of their relationship that led to them choosing to label their love as an open relationship. If your first reaction to “open relationship” is “so… cheating?” you’re not alone, and this conversation is also for you. Cheating isn’t about a specific behavior, it’s about breaking the rules of the relationship you agreed to play by, which is why it’s important to clearly define YOUR rules together. This episode explores why people seek structured relationships even without exclusivity, what commitment actually looks like when it isn’t defined by romantic restriction, and how accountability, emotional safety, partnership, and love can exist outside traditional scripts. This isn’t an episode about convincing anyone to open their relationship. It’s about clarity, consent, and understanding why the rules matter more than the label. | When Conflict Turns Lovers Into Exes ft. Touré | 17 Dec 2025 | 00:53:16
Conflict is inevitable in long-term relationships. Damage doesn’t have to be. In this episode, we explore what actually separates fights that bring couples closer from fights that quietly turn lovers into enemies. We talk about the moment arguments go sideways, why so many conflicts feel bigger than the issue at hand, and how couples can stay on the same team even when they fundamentally disagree. Our guest, Touré Neblett, draws on decades of navigating high-stakes, contentious conversations both publicly and privately to share what he’s learned about emotional regulation, repair, and conflict inside a long-term marriage. This conversation focuses on how disagreement can exist without contempt, and how learning to fight differently can fundamentally change the trajectory of a relationship. | Longterm - Sex Is Hard (NO pun intended..or maybe it is) feat. Kev On Stage and Mrs Kev On Stage | 27 Oct 2022 | 00:52:11
Does sex HAVE to get less passionate as time goes on in a relationship? Is it possible to keep that “can’t keep your hands off each other” feeling in a marriage? In this episode we explore these questions and share the depressing/ hopeful truth about the secret to good sex in a long relationship. When we are falling in love we experience an increase in cortisol, the stress hormone, but studies show that when we develop an attachment to someone oxytocin can actually work to inhibit cortisol production and stress response. That’s why researchers say that true love probably begins when the hormonal cocktail stops working. So long story short maybe the loss of passion in our sex life as we know it, is not such a bad thing Meet the guests of this episode!!! | Dating in Your Twenties (is) For Dummies FT. Harry Jowsey and Georgia Hassarati | 20 Oct 2022 | 00:50:31
Dating in your 20s is a lot like being given free range with paint as a toddler. Things can be fun but can get messy really quick. But the beauty is, you're young and have time to clean the mess up. In this episode, that is exactly what we are getting into. Harry Jowsey and Georgia Hassarati - two on again off again, mid twenties, love birds in the midst of what we just described. Harry, Georgia and myself all met on the Netflix show that I’ve worked on as a sex expert for several seasons, Too Hot to Handle. Harry was a retreat attendee on season one and Georgia, on season three. They met because Harry asked Georgia to be a guest on his podcast, Tap in with Harry Jowsey. Harry and Georgia share a lot of the same things in common: background, career aspirations, sense of humor and the desire for real love in their 20s. They start hanging out, yada yada yada, they fall in love, have a few incredible rom-com-esque months together before things got a little TOO real… too heavy for Harry who then decides to call things off. But in classic-twenty-something-style our boy Harry made another big call a few weeks after that. And that’s where they are today… And if you’re not really clear where that “at” is, don’t worry, neither are they… and that’s kinda the beauty of trying to do the love thing in your twenties…right? | I Don't Sleep with Women, But I Do Have Sex with Them feat. Sincere Show | 06 Oct 2022 | 00:45:54
Sincere Show, best known as Jason Derulo's DJ and a former castmate of Love and Hip Hop, came to this podcast to discuss non-monogamy and why his life of abundance has informed his decision to seek out an open relationship. However, the interview went much deeper and wider covering topics like fear of abandonment, sexual trauma, power dynamics and harmful tropes. This episode poses thought starters such as: What does it look like to be healed? Can you know what you want without knowing yourself without the baggage of trauma? How much space should we make for hurt people who hurt people? When are boundaries unhelpful brick walls? Should we prioritize or drive for sex or safety? | He's a cheating, code-less mother fucker feat. Tefi Pessoa | 29 Sep 2022 | 00:46:18
Shan Boodram delves into the taboo and hot topic that is cheating: are there ways to predict if your partner will cheat? Are there early warning signs? Recently two huge celebrity cheating scandals broke out- Adam Levine’s alleged affair and Nia Long’s fiancee, Ime Udoka’s affair. Often when we think of someone being cheated on, we cast an archetype - But in this case the people who’ve been cheated on don’t fit the script at all! On this episode, Shan talks to Estefania Pessoa better know as Tefi on Tiktok, who provided an unexpected take on cheating. Tefi breaks down how your code shapes your decisions, character, morals and therefore if you're likely going to be a cheater. But there was another take on how to spot a cheater, that I found very fascinating. Estefania Pessoa better known as Tefi on TikTok spoke about code. Tefi explained how code is your character, your morals, and how this code will impact the decisions you make. Decisions that will not only affect you, but those that you love. Shan also sits down with Dr. Barry Goldstein, a clinical psychologist who enlightens us on what to look out for to get a leg up on those who can’t keep their legs closed. | Do We Believe Her? ft. Abby De La Rosa + Submissive Women Episode Response | 14 Sep 2022 | 01:01:41
Nick Canon's third baby mama Abby De La Rosa says she is happy with Nick as her primary partner in their very open relationship. Do you believe her? Let's examine why or why not..."Believe women" is an American political slogan arising out of the #MeToo movement that refers to accepting women's allegations of sexual harassment or sexual assault at face value. BUT does it have limitations? Do we also believe women when they say that they're happy in romantic relationships...even if they're involved in dynamics that we don't think would work for us? Abby challenges us to see beyond our biases AND hold both of her contrasting truths about her love life. | Soul Mates or Settling? The Friends to Lovers Story feat. Ezee and Natalie | 12 Jul 2022 | 00:52:14
Can genuine friends truly transition into longterm romantic and sexual partners? Is it more ideal to gradually walk into love WITH someone who’s already your best friend OR fall in love and then become best friends? According to a 2021 study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science finds that two thirds of romantic couples started out in a platonic relationship. Yes, 68% reported that their current romantic relationship began as a friendship! And the rate of friends to lovers was even higher among 20 somethings and within the LGBTQ+ communities with 85% reported that their relationship began as a friendship. And more interestingly I think, only 30% said they were sexually attracted to the partner from the very beginning.
You might be like, why is this so shocking to you and it’s because in essence our generation might be rewriting the traditionally understood blueprint for forming romantic bonds.
This is what we discuss with guests Ezee and Natalie, two comedic-content creators turned collaborators turned best friends turned lovers, who have shared every part of their journey online and thus have sparked a lot of conversations about whether plutonic friends really shift to romantic lovers in a way that is both equal and sustainable? And with Hotline Bling producer plus half of DVSN's Nineteen85 aka Paul Jefferies.

| Men's Ego: The Real Cock Blocker for Great Sex feat. Tim Chantarangsu | 06 Jul 2022 | 00:53:28 | |
Let’s get right into this week’s episode: do many straight men utilize sex education, outside of watching mainstream porn, in order to ensure they’re really putting it down? In my opinion…no… as both a sex educator and as someone who’s had sex with straight men, I gotta say The ego that I’ve been met with from straight men has been toxic at times and really sad at others. And to me ego is both the biggest turnoff and biggest, for lack of a better term, cock blocker to actual great sex.
In this episode I get a group of straight men, a male sex coach and Tim Chantarangsu to shed light on why men are often too proud to engage in sex education.

| Don’t Ask Me My Sign | 01 Jun 2022 | 00:51:15 | |
Astrology … what has your experience been with it (especially) when it comes to dating? What if someone has a different perspective on it than you? Oftentimes, it can be a judgmental, mean, hot-ass mess when one person believes in the stars and astrological signs and the other does not. Personally, I think we can all collectively do better with it. In this episode, we dive into how believers and non-believers of astrology can come together and focus on what really matters.
This episode addresses and then attempts to bridge the divide. I am joined by famed astrologer Aliza Kelly as well as my astrology-loving friends Amber's Closet and Toni Romiti.

| My Breakup was a Break Free ft/ Sorelle Amore | 25 May 2022 | 00:43:32 | |
How would you feel if your lover said to you, “thank you for the opportunities to improve and grow in this relationship, but sadly, I think in order to continue to evolve, I have to break up with you…”
You’ve probably heard this statement before, “some people are in our life for just a reason and a season.” If the reason and season length are mutual -- INCREDIBLE! But, what happens when it’s not? Let’s examine all sides of what happens when "can I spend my life with you" turns into "thank you, next!"
This episode is all about the harsh and beautiful realities of “relationship cocooning” (a phrase I think I may have invented). It stars Sorelle Amore who shocked the internet when she broke off her engagement, Makeba Lindsay whose marriage ended when they had different ideas of growth, and Eman who wants to put an end to men who “cocoon” through her. | How Jemele Hill is Fighting Back Against America’s #1 Sex Life Killers | 24 Sep 2025 | 00:51:37
Thank you to Ro for sponsoring this video. Connect with a provider at https://ro.co/lovers to find out if prescription Ro Sparks are right for you. ----- What happens when you realize the best sex of your marriage only shows up on vacation? Award-winning journalist, author, and podcaster Jemele Hill joins Shan for a conversation about how she uncovered the connection between stress, rest, and desire in her own marriage. She shares why her husband seems to get luckier when they’re away, how that awareness has deepened their relationship, and what it taught her about the balance between ambition, partnership, and intimacy. This episode is for my overachievers who struggle to “do it all,” for the happily partnered (or hoping-to-be), and for anyone who’s ever wondered how to bring that vacation spark back home. Together, Jemele and Shan break down: - Why “having it all” is a myth (and the price women pay for chasing it) - How silence around stress robs intimacy, and what to do instead - What “fair trade” in the home has to do with mutually desirable sex - Practical ways to bring vacation sex energy into everyday life 🔗 Follow Jemele Hill Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jemelehill/ Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/jemelehill Want more Lover? | I (kinda) Hate My Lover ft/ Jazzmyne Jay | 18 May 2022 | 00:57:51
A lot of us learn how to love, but we don’t necessarily learn how to cope with not loving everything about the person we love. This episode is all about the difference between disliking some things about your partner and/or disliking your partner. How do you know if something small and annoying can turn into something big and unbearable down the road? What should you do when you get to the place where the two of you just can't seem to get along?
Jazzmyne Jay is back in this episode to share why she moved in with her partner and then moved out once she found that they just couldn’t get along. And guess what -- they are still together to this day despite that storm. I am also joined by my husband Jared Brady and we discuss why we've never liked each other less than we do right now. Plus, we go through an exercise to try and understand this phase we’re currently in. I also answer some of your questions!

Kevin Samuels, an image consultant and a well-known relationship commentator (especially within the black community), died on May 5, 2022. As a community, I hope we can discuss where we want to go next. This is why the only guests on this episode are you all.

| Sex and the Saints w/ Shameless Maya | 27 Apr 2022 | 00:59:18 | |
Does God really care about your sex life? And if so, does that also mean that God can help you have the best sex of your life? After more than a decade of Catholic school and Christain churches I was unclear about the Bible, God's actual will, sex, and the relationship between pleasure and sin. In an effort to gain clarity, I brought in some people to talk about it! This week's staring guest is Shameless Maya – A Christian YouTube star who was conflicted and confused while practicing celibacy. You'll also be hearing from theology expert Tara Teng, Christian influencer Brenda Marie Davies aka God is Grey, Jared Brady and his father Derrex Brady.

Does finding the kind of relationship you want mean conforming to an ideal of what a romantic partner is “supposed to be”? What if you don’t want to conform? Does this mean you’re not cut out for love? To explore further, Shan sits down with both Mandii, from the “See, The Thing Is” and “WHOREible Decisions” Podcasts and Khleo Thomas from Disney’s “Holes”; two successful and fascinating individuals who have come to believe that they are undateable. Not because of any toxic traits, but because their version of life-long happiness is not in line with what society feeds us.
