The Red Sox dropped a 2-1 decision to the Detroit Tigers Saturday night at Commerica Park.  The Series is even at 1-1 with the finale coming Sunday afternoon.  The Red Sox managed just 1 run against Tarik Skubal, who went 8 Innings and notched his 16th win. Nick Pivetta pitched well in his outing, but ended up with the loss

2-Out Magic: Tyler O'Neill got the Red Sox on the board 1st with a 2-out solo Home Run in the Top of the 1st Inning against Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal.  It was O'Neill's 25th Home Run of the season and just his 3rd in the month of August.  Skubal had not allowed a Home Run in his previous 3 outings.

Nick's Night- Nick Pivetta, coming off recording 10 strikeouts in working in relief in the completion of the suspended game against the Blue Jays this past Monday at Fenway, made the start Saturday night.  Pivetta was staked to the early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning. He gave up 3 straight hits including a pair of Doubles and that resulted in the Tigers taking the lead with 2 runs in the 2nd Inning.

Potential Cy Young: Detroit's Tarik Skubal worked 8 impressive innings in picking up his 16th win of the season.  Skubal gave up the solo Home Run to O'Neill in the first, but only surrendered 3 hits over the next 7 Innings.  He walked no one and struck out 8.

Need the Bat: Rafael Devers went 0-for-5 in returning to the Sox lineup Friday night and went 0-for-4 on Saturday night. Devers represented the go-ahead run in the 9th Inning, but hit into a fielder's choice force out to end the game.

A Look Ahead: The Red Sox and Tigers conclude their 3-Game Series Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.  Sox are TBA for the finale and the Tigers are expected to go with rookie right-hander Ty Madden. Red Sox continue their road trip with the 1st of a 3-Game Series against the Mets at Citi Field Monday night.

The Red Sox opened up their 6-Game Road Trip with a 7-5, 10-Inning​ win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park Friday night.  Tigers with a run in the Bottom of the 9th off Kenley Jansen to even the game at 4-4.  Ceddanne Rafaela hit a 2-run Home Run in the Top of the 10th and after a pitching change, Jarren Duran crushed a Home Run to right to add to the lead.  Connor Wong had 2 Extra-Base Hits and a pair of RBIs in the Sox victory.  Sox are now 12 over .500 (39-27) on the road for the season.

On the Board 1st:  Jarren Duran led off the game with a Double to centerfield against Casey Mize and scored from 3rd on an RBI groundout from Tristan Casas.  Sox went up 2-0 in the 3rd Inning on a Sacrifice Fly from Wilyer Abreu.  Connor Wong knocked Boston's 3rd run of the game with an RBI Double in the 4th Inning.  Wong hit his 12th Home Run of the season in the 6th to make it 4-0.

The Pen: Brennan Bernardino was the 1st out of the Pen Friday night.  He worked a 1-2-3 7th Inning with 2 strikeouts.  Bernardino ran into trouble and gave up a 3-run Home Run to Kerry Carpenter in the 8th Inning to make it a 1-run game.  Justin Slaten entered and got the final 2 outs in the 8th to keep it a 1-run game.

The Pen II: Kenley Jansen gave up a leadoff single in the Bottom of the 9th to Zack McKinstry and he moved to 2nd with no one out on a stolen base. Tigers tied the game at 4 on an RBI Double off the bat of Jake Rogers.  Jansen with the Blown Save, his 4th of the season. He struck out Riley Greene for the final out of the inning and left the potential winning run at 3rd.

Closed the Door:  Chris Martin took the mound for the Bottom of the 10th and gave up a run, but managed to record all 3 outs for his 2nd Save of 2024.

Tanner Deserved Better: Tanner Houck left the game with a 4-0 lead with 6 scoreless innings against the Tigers Friday night.  Houck ended up with another no-decision with the bullpen not being able to handle a 4-0 lead.  Houck is 0-3 with 5 No-Decisions over his last 8 starts.

Back In There: Rafael Devers returned to the Sox lineup Friday night and served as the Designated Hitter. He went 0-for-5 with 2 strikeouts.  Devers missed the previous 3 games as he deals with shoulder issues.  Manager Alex Cora told the media Friday that it's likely Devers will DH again on Saturday with the hopes of getting back to 3rd-Base on Sunday.  Cora also said that Masa Yoshida will not play in the outfield.

A Look Ahead: The Red Sox and Tigers continue their 3-game weekend series Saturday night. Nick Pivetta is set to oppose Tarik Skubal, who is in the mix for the AL Cy Young award.

The Red Sox home struggles continued with a 7-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday afternoon.  Diamondbacks came back from a 4-0 deficit to complete the series sweep over the Sox.  Arizona improves to 20-5 over its last 25 games and the D-Backs ​are now 19 games over .500 for the 1st time this season.  Sox are 5 games over .500 for the 1st time since June 30th at 44-39 with win over Padres.

Comeback D-Backs: The Diamondbacks were held scoreless over the 1st 4 Innings by Tanner Houck but scored 3 in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th on a 3-run Home Run from Eugenio Suarez. Sox swept in a series for the 5th time this season and the 3rd time at Fenway. Suarez had 8 hits and 10 RBIs in the 3 Games for Arizona.

On the Board 1st: Tristan Casas, who went 0-for-4 with 4 strikeouts on Saturday, gave the Red Sox their 1st lead of the Series against the Diamondbacks with a 2-out, solo Home Run in the 1st Inning off Merrill Kelly. It was Casas' 8th Home Run of the season and his 2nd since coming off the Injured List. The Home Run would have left all 30 Big League Parks according to Baseball Savant.

Milestone for Raffy: Rafael Devers hit his 200th career Home Run (958th career game) with a 3-run shot in the 4th Inning that put the Red Sox in front, 4-0. Devers Home Run would have only left Fenway and stayed in the other 29 Big League Parks according to Baseball Savant.  Devers has hit 86 Home Runs at Fenway and 114 on the road. It was also his 1st career Home Run against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He's now homered against all 29 opponents.

Tanner's Day on the Hill:  Tanner Houck got 3 Double Plays in working 4 scoreless innings to open up his start Sunday afternoon.  Diamondbacks pulled to within a run with 3 runs in the Top of the 5th Inning. Houck gave up a 3-run Home Run to Eugenio Suarez in the 6th that gave Arizona its 1st lead of the game.
