If I Could Start My Health Journey Again, I’d Do These 8 Things
Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode!
My fitness and health journey has been a long one, and I’ve definitely learned a lot of lessons… mostly the hard way.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing 8 things I really wish I knew sooner when it comes to fitness, health, wellness, and building a healthier mindset. These are the things that would’ve saved me time, frustration, and a lot of starting over.
This episode is just an honest chat about what I’ve learned and what I’d do differently if I was starting again. I hope it helps you avoid some of the same mistakes I made.
If you enjoy this episode, please share it with your friends or family - it genuinely means so much and helps the podcast grow.
Thank you for being here 🤍
Rethinking Cycle Syncing: Are We Misunderstanding the Importance of Pre-Ovulation?
The follicular phase, pre-ovulation and ovulation phases are often framed as phases to push yourself, meet goals and do hard workouts before the slump of luteal hits. However, is the lifestyle approach of cycle syncing oversimplifying complex physiological systems, and leading the menstrual and ovulatory dysregulation?
In this episode, I explore a new science-backed theory of cycle syncing. Let's look at what’s actually happening hormonally and neurologically during this phase, and why this differs widely from person to person.
Rather than idealising pre-ovulation as a “green light” phase, this conversation invites a more attentive approach - one that recognises complex biological systems.
If you’ve ever felt pressured to maximise or optimise your life in the first half of your cycle, this episode is for you, and suggests a different approach, grounded in physiology and evidence.
I hope you enjoy the episode. Thank you for listening!

For centuries, people speak of a mystical connection between the cycles of the Moon and the menstrual cycle. But is there any truth to it—or is it just ancient symbolism carried into modern wellness culture?
In this episode, I dive into both the science and the sacred stories surrounding this possible connection. I share with you the current (and past) research on whether the menstrual cycle truly synchronises with the lunar phases—and why this idea continues to resonate deeply with many women and those who menstruate.
We’ll explore: ✨ The origins of lunar-menstrual synchronisation. 🌕 What research suggests about potential connections. 🌙 The moon as a symbol of feminine power! 🧘♀️ How to hold both scientific skepticism and spiritual reverence in balance!
👂 Tune in if you’re curious about:
Menstrual health & hormones.
Feminine archetypes and lunar symbolism.
Myths vs. scientific evidence.
Blending scientific understanding with personal or spiritual practices.

Holding Space: A Conversation on Body Image and Body Dysmorphia
Hey everyone! In today’s episode, we’re getting real about something that affects so many of us but often goes unspoken: body image and body dysmorphia. This isn’t a polished, perfect conversation—it’s an honest one. In this episode, I hold space for the messy and complicated relationships we have about body image and body dysmorphia.
I feel I struggle so much with body image issues, and most of us feel the same. Let's talk about it.
💬 In this episode, we chat about:
What is body dysmorphia?
What are the symptoms and treatment?
What's causing it?
Societal impacts - not being 'skinny enough' or 'muscly enough'.
Personal experiences.
📝 Journal Prompts:
What is my first memory of being aware of my body? How did it make me feel?
When do I feel most comfortable in my body? When do I feel most disconnected?
What messages have I received (from family, media, culture) about how my body should look? How have they shaped how I see myself?
What would I say to my younger self about their body?
If my body could talk, what would it say to me today? What would I want to say back?
How do I define beauty for myself—beyond what I’ve been told?
What are three ways I can care for my body without focusing on how it looks?
What would self-acceptance look like today, even if I’m not “there yet”?
⚠️ Heads up:
Disclaimer: I am not a psychologist or a doctor. This conversation is to hold space for something that may impact so many. I do touch on sensitive topics like body image struggles and mental health. Take care while listening, and skip or pause if you need to. Please speak to your GP if you are struggling with body dysmorphia.

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! I hope you all have had a wonderful week.
The past three episodes have been all about the science (which I love) but I wanted to catch up with you all this week and have a chat. In this short episode I talk about something very new to me - going without makeup - cold turkey!
I feel that it is a societal expectation to wear makeup, and to be honest, I don't think I would wear makeup if this wasn't the case. I want to challenge this idea within myself and see where it takes me. I want to feel empowered and beautiful in my own skin in all occasions.
Follow along for the journey - I will be sharing updates!
I hope you love this podcast. If so, get in touch:

What If I Told You That Certain Foods Can Help Prevent Chronic Diseases and In Some Cases are More Efficient than The Most Common Pharmaceuticals?
Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi. In this week's episode, we are focusing on increasing food in your diet instead of limiting food to promote wellbeing.
We are told constantly to reduce salt, sugar, and saturated fat and limit/avoid these foods. The human body and mind do not thrive under deprivation and usually, this technique doesn't work for promoting health. I want to encourage you to increase different foods in your diet, before considering taking them away.
What if I told you that food, particularly the foods mentioned in this episode, can help prevent premature death from chronic diseases? What if I presented to you a drug that can prevent the incidence of cardiovascular disease - the leading global killer?
Turns out there are foods that do just that, with only positive side effects. Listen to this podcast to find out what foods have such potent health benefits.
Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Today I have a very VERY special podcast. One year of Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Fifty episodes! I can't believe it. I wanted to do something special for this podcast. It means a lot to me that I have reached a year and that it has grown exponentially since the start.
Every single one of you who has listened to the podcast is special to me and that is why I wanted to include some of you in this special podcast.
The meaning of health is different for everyone, and I wanted to showcase the beauty of that today. I want you to remember that being "healthy" is by your definition. There is no clinical definition of health and there is a reason for that - health is what you make it, health is how you feel it. I hope you can see that today, from the many people kind enough to share their personal meaning of health.
No matter how many scientific studies there are it will never invalidate your personal opinion of what healthy means to you. I encourage you to find your very own meaning of health and prioritize that forever. Use this podcast for a starting point or refinement of your definition.
I hope you loved this podcast as much as I enjoyed making and listening to it.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the podcast - your contribution means everything.
Special thanks to my brother, Jonathan, for helping me edit!
Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Episode 49! Can you believe it?! This week's podcast is a chatty one and catch-up with you guys on life and everything that has been going on! I hope you enjoy the podcast!
Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! This week we have another heavily science-based podcast. In this podcast I deep dive into the scientific literature on HIIT VS Steady-State Moderate Intensity exercise so you don't have to. You get nothing but the facts on this podcast!
HIIT (high intensity interval training) is a type of exercise that has gained popularity over the past decade for its health benefits and time efficiency, suggesting we can get the same health benefits from 4-6 minutes over 30 minutes to an hour of exercise! In this podcast we test this theory. Are we wasting our time exercising for an hour each session when we get the same benefits from just 5 minutes? Let's find out.
Share, like and comment - it helps me out so much with the podcast (and it makes me very happy ;)).

Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! This week's episode is a review on the 2019 controversial documentary that has resurfaced recently: "The Big Fat Lies about Diet and Exercise".
This documentary is an interesting one. I think you might want to hear about what is discussed on this show and what they might be getting wrong. There are some interesting statements made in this documentary that I am not sure I agree with (or the science for that matter).

I am back from my break and feeling better than ever! Today, I am talking about New Year's Resolutions, how to make goals that stick, and how to make 2022 your year. These past couple of years have been hard for everyone. It's time to take life and make it yours today and every day. The new year is a perfect time to start your goals and really make a difference in your life for YOU.
I love this time of year, a fresh start and time to reevaluate your goals and hone in on what you want and what you don't want. On Hogmanay, I brought in the bells sober, with loved ones after a productive day. I prepared for the new year focusing on my goals and reflecting on 2021 with yoga, mediation, journaling, and cleaning!
I hope you get everything and more out of 2022. Let's get you started on the life you love today!

Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! This week's episode is all about relationships and their many forms.
Relationships are fundamental for our wellbeing and we have so many of them, yet we aren't taught once how to have happy healthy relationships. Family, friends, romantic relationships - we are led by example, and sometimes that example isn't great.
This is just a little chat on my opinion about relationships. I am no expert but I wanted to share my opinion on this. Let me know if you agree!
