“Policies have a tone of voice.” - Lewis Eisen
Policies have a tone of voice. Getting that tone right is key in influencing people to actually follow the policies. Unfortunately, the tone of written policies in many organizations has not kept up with the shift in how leaders actually speak with their employees in modern times (ie., respectfully). Listen to this episode as we explore some fascinating tips for good policy-writing AND the connection between policy-writing and Talent/HR. My guest is Lewis Eisen. Lewis is the author of the international bestseller How to Write Rules that People Want to Follow: A Guide to Drafting Respectful Policies and Directives, 3d Edition. His approach to drafting policy has been adopted by groups at organizations across the US, Canada, and Europe. Over his lengthy career he has been a practicing lawyer, a technology consultant, and a policy writer in the federal government. He has been providing professional training seminars and workshops for 40 years, and is currently a member of the Faculty of the Professional Education Group based out of Minnesota. In this episode of Talent Management Truths, you’ll discover: 🍏 Illustrative examples of how to rephrase bossy policy language in a way that treats people respectfully 🍏 Why assuming positive intent is an essential underpinning when articulating rules and policies 🍏 The power of “we” in stating behavioual expectations Links

“HOW are you creative?” - Lisa Mitchell
What does creativity mean to you? Creativity is the theme of the month in my mastermind program for Talent Leaders, The Talent Trust - and so I’ve been thinking a lot about creativity and how this quality is often misunderstood. For many of us, we think that if we do not know how to draw or paint, that we somehow lack creativity. What if we accepted that we are all creative in our own way and actually leveraged that creativity more often in the workplace? What might be possible? In this episode of Talent Management Truths, you’ll discover: 🍏 The benefits of being creative at work 🍏 A new definition of insanity (thanks for the jump off point, Einstein!) 🍏 My 3 steps for becoming more creative

| The Power of Community and Belonging | 19 Jan 2022 | 00:16:24 | |
“When I choose to do the opposite of what I feel like doing - curling up in a lonely ball for instance - and just reach out a little to my brilliant network of friends and colleagues and clients and acquaintances, I start to come back to myself.” - Lisa Mitchell
As Covid and the headlines wear us down even further - it can be easy to retreat inside ourselves - to put a sort of isolation helmet on that muffles the world and people around us. This kind of retreating feels easy at the moment, and yet it’s damaging when sustained. SO much so that the UK government actually created a Minister for Loneliness post in 2018. So what is the antidote? The antidote is the deliberate creation of community and belonging vs. waiting for it to come to you. Tune in to this episode of Talent Management Truths for some inspiration and ideas on how, with a little intention, you can create the community and sense of belonging you deserve. “It takes collaboration across a community to develop better skills for better lives.” - Jose Angel Gurria In today’s episode of Talent Management Truths, you’ll discover: 🍏 The importance of being an initiator when feeling disconnected 🍏 The impact of community and belonging on our success 🍏 Insights about creating a deliberate social ecosystem of learning
