Movie Review and Rant: I finally watched 'It Ends With Us'08 Jan 202501:05:46

It finally happened, I watched the movie that spurned all the lawsuits and drama - and I have thoughts. A review the rom-dramedy? in the spirit of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and thoughts and research into the various distracting derelict lewks and random designer labels. From the acting to the dialogue, and the plot to the set design, the creative choices were all noticed and noted. BONUS: A newly released voicemail from Justin Baldoni, plus the internet reminded me about some Deadpool director drama that sounds familiar

Deep Dive: It Ends with Us/These Lawsuits - Part 7 05 Jan 202501:16:22

The conclusion of Justin Baldoni's jam packed lawsuit against the New York Times that covers a pile of alleged inaccuracies from their article regarding a "smear campaign" against Blake Lively. Full text message exchanges between Justin's team seem to present a different reality from the vindictive scenarios outlined in Blake's complaint. Justin's version tells a story of his small production house being blindsided and strong-armed into submission by a powerful celebrity couple. Multiple things can be true, and while several allegations weren't addressed, both sides want a jury trial which hopefully means every detail will be shared at some point.

Deep Dive: Luigi Mangione, Part 2 - Morality and The Power of an Idea13 Dec 202400:57:46

Updates on the case as it stands with a disclaimer that Luigi should be viewed as a suspect, innocent until proven guilty, not definitively guilty until that is proven in court. Analyzing details of his online footprint and alleged evidence has provided more seemingly hidden messages that are reviewed before asking questions that arise when debating his connection. The topic that super cedes all others is the unity of the majority, the wave of their discontent that is calling out the abuse and misdeeds of privatized healthcare and insurance that has resulted in prioritization of money over health. As voices get louder, we're also witnessing a suppression of related content and an eagerness to make an example out of a woman who said specific words in anger after being denied a claim this week. Also, a look at civil unrest through a historical lens, morality policing, and why this next generation isn't as phased by violence as their elders may expect.

RHOBH Finale Recap: White Parties and Revelations22 Feb 202400:58:04
The well coddled gang wraps up a season of medical gaslighting, failed redemption arcs, and marriage issues with one of Kyle's classic white parties. Erika performs and is apparently under the belief that she sold out a stadium, Sutton shares words of advice with her daughter over jewelry, and Dorit expresses concern about her relationship before the episode focuses solely on Kyle, Mo and their family reacting to a press leak about a separation. Kyle shares new information that seems to contradict comments she made earlier in the episode. Farewell Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Season 13.

RHOBH Recap: Irony, Madness, and Diamonds19 Feb 202401:04:50
Take a puss pattin' walk through fields of irony and madness where a woman who couldn't apologize for her own callous behavior, that caused additional pain to victims of the decades long Girardi embezzlement scheme that funded her lifestyle, spends an entire episode saying she wants an apology. Sutton's impulse buy horse Santos is a delightful distraction, 8.5 Anne lures people to her stair laden home with diamonds where Crystal delivers a great retort to her confrontation, Dorit continues to play "where in the world is PK", Garcelle and her sons help amplify a campaign against cyber bullying, and Kyle and Mo show us what could be the most awkward spousal interaction in RH history.

Recap and Review: The Housewife & The Hustler Part 2 - The Reckoning15 Feb 202401:28:15

A recap and opinion of Hulu's second documentary detailing crimes spearheaded by Tom Girardi and the Girardi | Keese law firm. Failings of the California Bar Association are highlighted as well as the current status of ongoing legal battles for both Tom and Erika, including an overview of the Marco Marco lawsuit referenced on an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when she mentioned wearing a wire in a federal investigation. The 2-hour documentary also provided an update on several client-victims and focused on a group who welcomed a sit-down with Erika in the hopes that she would no longer refer to them as "alleged".

This recap cites the Hulu documentary and L.A. Times articles.

RHOBH Recap: Merce-y Me12 Feb 202400:57:40
A recap of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, recounting the details of the final dancer's leg of the group's trip to Spain where Merce Cunningham's name, and ashes, found their way into the biggest mouths in Beverly Hills. Highlights include an awkward flamenco dance, heartfelt commentary from Sutton, van ride tips from the ladies on different kinds of bears and not getting embroiled in a spouse's financial scams, with bonus footage of Dorit's continued advertisements for high fructose corn $yrup.

Deep Dive: The Coveted Girardi Branded Earrings08 Feb 202401:05:06

In this dive we learn more about the chaotic path the custom made earrings have taken that involves multiple robberies, a lengthy HOA lawsuit, and a dalliance with tax authorities, all of which led to the bankruptcy trustee having ample documentation when the time came to confirm items purchased with client funds. We also review bad karma origins of another piece from the "Girardi Collection" and contrast Erika's desire to hold onto the spoils of ill-gotten goods with others who were eager to part with lavish gifts unknowingly funded by Tom's clients.

This dive cites information from multiple L.A. Times and N.Y. Times articles, as well as court case filings.

RHOBH Recap: Paella and Prayers05 Feb 202400:56:56
We return to Spain and enjoy an elegant dinner, filled with cultured guests who witness the group being blown away that Erika knows anything beyond how many carats the earrings (that a bunch of diabetes clients unknowingly bought her) were. We're spared from anyone mentioning Sutton's esophagus in this episode but we're forced to hear about how heroic the women felt 8.5 Anne was for saying scary medical terms as Crystal waited for her ambulance, and as Dorit stood by with a "ludicrously capacious" bag.

Deep Dive: Jen Shah, Scamworld, and Waterboarding01 Feb 202401:19:23

Back in the winter of 2020, rumors and nastiness regarding Jen Shah's workplace connection to Trump "University" began to percolate. This pod explains Jen's connection to that grift, as well as detailing the company where she worked before just before striking out on her own to lead a national telemarketing scam. Brace yourself for details that include a waterboarding lawsuit so you can cite it when asked to defend working from home.

Beverly Hills Recap: The Pain in Spain29 Jan 202400:58:58
A review of new allegations and rebuttals regarding Denise's behavior at Kyle's cannabis dinner before a rant filled recap of a luxurious cast trip to Spain. The Spanish voyage pays homage to an iconic choreographer, tests our patience with more cocky vitriol from a woman thrilled with being rated 8.5, reminds the world that Tom Girardi used client funds to buy gratuitous and illusory displays of wealth, and introduces us to some very likeable ghosts.

Deep Dive: Luigi Mangione and The Horrors of American Health "care" and Insurance - PART 111 Dec 202400:58:29

A full rundown of what we currently know about the alleged United Healthcare vigilante, including the details of his arrest and charges in both PA and NY, his education, upbringing, life, and events that may have served as the catalyst for his actions. After wading through potential easter eggs and hidden messages he may have planned, we'll review his social media footprint that paints a picture of a young man questioning ethics and morality while struggling with ongoing health issues and pain. Throughout, the intent is to be clear about facts vs. media spin and recognize the eagerness that news sources seem to have to plant seeds of partisan discontent in a moment when the majority has found themselves unified.

BONUS: fun facts about how much Americans spend on healthcare and a rant about the Governor of Pennsylvania using his press conference to chide and shame

Recap: RHOBH S14 E 2and 3 - A Sobering Separation and Life's A Beach08 Dec 202401:11:46

After an update on new details about the United Healthcare vigilante, now known as The Adjuster, a recap of the last two episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills begins. I catch up on E2 where viewers learned more cringeworthy information about PK, Kyle's issues with Dorit, Erika's ongoing fixation with money, and a framed picture Kyle can't seem to step to. Then, Kathy treats us to a beachside outing, filled with thoughtful touches, games, and fun elements - for Kyle to poop on. The culmination of the episode is Dorit once again standing up to Kyle and again refusing to accept blame for how she's been treated.

Rant and a Recap: United Healthcare Vigilante and RHOSLC S5 E11 and 12 - Troop SLC and Mazel Meredith,05 Dec 202401:07:01

After a summary of this week's NYC United Healthcare vigilante and witnessing the anger our country's greedy insurance companies have sown, we get into recapping the latest two episodes of Salt Lake City. The ladies try "camping" for an afternoon, Mary and her son have a heart to heart that has us rooting for them, and Angie and Lisa find peace as more infighting kicks off. Recap: RHOC Reunion Part 3 - Goodbye Jesus Jugs 24 Nov 202400:55:39

The worst was truly saved for last as the final part of the Real Housewives of Orange County reunion focuses on Pick-Me personified, Alexis, and her fresh batch of talking points from Shannon's ex. The show begins with a teaser that important news comes as soon as the reunion wraps. Then Andy, the cast, and viewers all witness more illogical madness as a reminder of why Jesus Jugs making a cameo this season isn't something that should be repeated. We're shown more footage of the man Shannon bought shoes for and hear enough of his side for a lifetime. The news that drops turns out to be information a few ladies held onto throughout the reunion, but Shannon is eager to be understanding, forgive, and move-on. We all hope her ex does as well.

Recap: RHOSLC S5E10 - Kiss Kiss Bang Bangs/Bronwyn Gets a Performance Review 22 Nov 202400:54:57

In what may be one of the most entertaining episodes of any Real Housewives franchise, we bear witness to several mic drop moments from women who have honed skills of verbal battle. Early on, we see our gruff Tater Todd, arms folded, and delivering a stern performance review of "did not meet expectations" to his direct report. Then, a fairytale presentation of Mary's Breakfast at Tiffany's event is littered with butlers, decor, and vitriol as the women address beefs old and new. Despite wearing thick winter garb, Heather comes in hot and aiming for Bronwyn, Angie and Meredith face off, Meredith and Whitney have a run in, everyone comes for Meredith's unique hairpiece choice, and Britani continues to look for love and attention in all the wrong places.

Recap: RHOBH S14E1 - Grace Time Is Over20 Nov 202400:53:12

The season premier starts with a bang as OG Dorit awakens from her long slumber. With plenty to say about PK, and after shaking off her Fox Force minion garb for armor to fight self appointed clique lead Kyle, Dorit stand out as the true showman of the episode. Several iconic moments unfurl before our weary eyes - Dorit puffing on a cigarette in her luxury SUV en route to Kathy's, Kathy getting an infusion mid-glam while listening to Dorit's separation tale like a wise Beverly Hills oracle, and Garcelle's realization that everyone in the group is now divorced or separated. We meet the new housewife, Bozoma 'Boze', an exciting addition who may be our first corporate businesswoman cast member, who was surprised to witness Kathy pulling her extensions out mid-event. If this episode is any indication, it's going to be a good season and we're long overdue!

Spotify Rant and a Recap: RHOC S18 E19 Reunion Part 220 Nov 202400:54:50

After a rant about Spotify's current policy to only allow for 12 hours of audio book listening per month, we check back in with the OC ladies as they continue their reunion. Should Katie be blamed for her daughter being a TikTok star who made a funny video about her mother's rivals? Can Emily understand that not everyone is a lawyer and, if they were, her career choice would be obsolete? Will Alexis recognize that she's been trained to be a mouthpiece for a scorned man? Does Heather understand that yelling at women whose children think she's mean does not help her case? We find answers to these questions and more in Part two of the Real Housewives of Orange County.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS: Help pressure Biden to pass the Equal Rights Amendment that would give women protections in the Constitution before his term ends. Call the White House at (202) 456-1111 or text at (302) 404-0880 and simply say, "I’m calling to urge President Biden to make publication of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution a priority before the end of his term." So easy. The 28th Amendment to the Constitution would make sure no one faces gender discrimination and would help protect women against gender-based violence, banning birth control, and unequal pay. Without an amendment giving women equal rights, those injustices are harder to protect against. Call and tell a friend!

SHIRT: Go to https://merchymerch.printful.me/  for the shirt that serves as a reminder that seeing our government burn at the hands of mediocre men means we'll rebuild from its ashes. All proceeds are going to charity.

Recap: RHOSLC S5E9 - Revenge is Best Served in Coach17 Nov 202401:09:00

The cast trip to celebrate Bronwyn's anniversary in Palm Springs is on its final leg as Bronwyn's husband, Todd (a.k.a. Tater Todd), is on his last nerve. Whitney and Lisa manage to settle their Alibaba beef but Lisa and Bronwyn don't come to a good place about their disconnect regarding Heather, and Meredith manages to start a new issue with Sean about her perception of a comment he made on a podcast...which have become the uncredited housewife in too many franchises. The group goes on a racecar outing, we learn intimate information at a group dinner that will pop-up in my mind a decade from now, Bronwyn is gifted a $4M diamond necklace, and we get more insight into her relationship dynamic with Tater Todd. Also - Lisa spirals when she has to ride home in coach, hence the title of the episode

BONUS: I made a "Let it burn, it's how men learn" shirt that you can check out at https://merchymerch.printful.me/, all proceeds going to charity, and I'm focused on the movement to pressure Biden to pass the Equal Rights Amendment that would finally give women Constitutional protection before his term ends. Join me in calling the White House at (202) 456-1111 or text at (302) 404-0880 and simply say, "I’m calling to urge President Biden to make publication of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution a priority before the end of his term." Deep Dive: It Ends With Us/These Lawsuits - Part 6 04 Jan 202501:05:10

Justin Baldoni files an 87 page lawsuit against the New York Times, this episode reviews contradictions from statements made in Blake Lively's complaint. His perspective seems to be that she held something over Wayfarer as a bargaining chip of sorts to get her way, and that he and his team agreed to her escalating demands to keep the peace. They appear to frame her allegations as a means to regain positive public image that they state was not damaged by a "smear campaign" but rather her own tone deaf actions during the movie's promotional period. Each of their filings reflect very strong, and very opposing, perspectives. Part 6 covers the first half of his filing, Part 7 covers the rest as well as my summary thoughts after realizing one party is either lying or delusional.

Rant: Teddi's Tryst and RHONY's Flop Era14 Nov 202400:49:50

The news that John Mellencamp's daughter, a self proclaimed "accountability coach", has been having an ongoing affair with her horse trainer (despite his wife Karli giving birth alone as he was off with the Tedster, then finding out, believing them that it was over, and then having to find out again with a newborn) led to an unexpected side-quest into researching the world of California equestrians. After a discussion on the awful details, and why I view affairs on a scale of varying factors, we delve into what the hell is happening on the RHONY reboot. With the latest episode detailing a third attempt at a rehearsed storyline in as many months, the cast seems to be floundering to fill air time with authenticity. Recap: RHOSLC S5E8 - The Desert and the Deserted13 Nov 202400:59:48

As the ladies of Salt Lake City jet off to a lavish Palm Springs vacation, tensions remain high between newly sparring couples. Heather dishes to Meredith and Lisa about her confrontation with Bronwyn, and that conversation serves as a catalyst for issues later in the episode. From the push-fest between John and Justin at Angie's anniversary party, to lingering Alibaba accusations, to the simmering resentment brewing between Lisa and trip host Bronwyn, no amount of custom jewelry could distract the ladies from their ongoing battles. The episode ends on a To Be Continued after Todd and Bronwyn deliver an ultimatum to their guests because he has apparently never seen any Real Housewives show before. BONUS: Telling you about the MARTHA doc I'm currently watching on Netflix and how private equity has come full circle for the SLC husbands

After a Veteran's Day tirade, and an update on a self loathing elven incel, we get cozy on the couches for Reunion Part 1 for the Real Housewives of Orange County. This episode was packed with confrontations - Tamra's ongoing focus of Shannon's alcohol consumption, Jen's relationship and Ryan's level of involvement with the bookie gambling scandal (that I detailed in my podcast dive on Ippei Mizuhara), Emily's confidence that she figured out something nefarious about Ryan that the FEDS missed, and an attempted hit job on Katie that backfires on Heather and Emily.

'Rivals' Show Review and Rant - Channeling the Spirit of Edith Garrud 08 Nov 202400:48:10

As frenzied incel energy swirls around us, there's never been a better time to learn about the 4B movement, step up your personal safety strategies, and seek inspiration from women who stood up to the same kinds of threats, intimidation, and misogyny - and who ended up becoming historical figures for it. There's also never been a better time to find a good book or show to help soothe the nerves. I review the new series, "Rivals" (on Hulu and Disney +) with a summary of its 1980's English countryside plotline, including my opinions on the draw of its enemies to lovers story, and why it's winning so many people over.

Bonus: an excerpt from my latest romantasy book "Steel Heart, Iron Claws" and why you may want to stock up on romantasy books and other goods that may soon be deemed illicit

Rant: America's White Refrigerator Broligarchy Era07 Nov 202400:56:34

The masses made their choice for the next President and I have some thoughts on what that means, what got us here, and what the hell we do now. Whether you focus on misinformation campaigns from foreign governments that cultivated seeds of discontent a la Cambridge Analytica, or core values of racial bias and white supremacy that continue to linger, or the resistance of over 34% of our citizens to realize the power of their vote, there's no shortage of factors that contributed. As an homage to facts and figures, we review key metrics that served as a focus of hate and division in our ongoing culture war before addressing what we can try to do in the coming years to stay safe and sane.

Recap: RHOC S18E17 - Unfinished Business05 Nov 202400:57:52

Hold my hand on election day and listen as I ramble a summary of the latest Real Housewives of Orange County episode between rants. Axe throwing, isometric crunches, and stucco climbing, what doesn't this episode have? As Tamrat switches strategies, Jen's engagement means an engagement party complete with a "tacky 80's bridesmaid's dress" theme brought to us by the mind of Alexis. Drama ensues for every rivalry as Shannon bumps heads with an unexpected challenger - Katie's husband Matt. And no, we don't escape the finale without having to see Johnny Dbags. Bonus: a new IG-esque ending template makes me rage.

Canvassing Stories and a Recap: RHOSLC S5E7 - The Huzzbands 05 Nov 202401:03:47

Relaying adventures of record-breaking, swing-state canvassing for Kamala Harris over the weekend before delving into the follow up of a "To Be Continued..." episode of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Angie's 25th Anniversary party continues to serve as the backdrop for Alibaba rumorszzz and aggression between the Barlow's and Roses. A major point of contention is when John Barlow repeatedly gets in between Justin and Lisa as he hears F bombs being directed at her - Whitney blames Lisa for causing her husband's awful reaction and I take a moment to reflect on the toxicity of that viewpoint. Bronwyn plans a couples trip and has to decide who to invite, which results in a conversation with Heather that quickly turns sour.

Two Book Reviews: A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR) and A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOFAS)31 Oct 202400:54:02

A discussion of the highlights of the third and fourth* books in the series by Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Frost and Starlight - including a few spoilers! Also, a list of grievances with ACOTAR that have popped up during the dramatic and breathy audiobook. A rundown of updates per character as the series progresses, with an obvious effort to tee up new characters for their forthcoming storylines and spin-offs, yes please. Various theories and possible hidden meanings behind both major and nuanced plotlines are also reviewed.

Bonus: the importance of speaking up for people and issues you care about, especially if the only reason you're silent is to avoid or appease bullies

Recap: RHOC S18E16 - Sunday Roasted27 Oct 202400:55:45

The final days of the London trip come to a chaotic conclusion as Shannon struggles to get feces out of her body - and friend group. The toxic entity that is the Tamrat/Tambat/Tamratputin has regrouped after being read to filth by Jen and recalculated to target Katie and bring up any possible spec of dirt it has on Shannon, regardless of collateral damage. Despite drama involving children, and getting emotional about being perceived as mean, Heather continues to support her new bestie. Jen and Gina shine in their respective moments of acknowledging manipulation, calling out bad behavior, and setting boundaries.

Recap: RHOSLC S5E6 - Mafia Wives and Bad Vibes/Lisa Going the Distance25 Oct 202401:01:04

This episode centers around Angie's 25th Anniversary celebration where the cast takes the opportunity to be in a room with zero sound dampening as their backdrop for multiple confrontations. Bronwyn calls Heather to the mat about her meddling and hypocrisy, Mary and Lisa also air their grievances to Heather, and Britani gets a shock when Whitney's husband decides he wants to get into women's business and stir up mess. The event culminates with Whitney Drew's extensive investigation into Lisa Barlow, including a comprehensive presentation of receipts and evidence, just kidding, Whitney has nothing but the word of a random account so Lisa goes off and calls in her cyber cavalry.

Movie & Series Reviews: 'Your Monster' and 'Black Doves'29 Dec 202400:43:53

Review and recommendations of Netflix's 6-part series, 'Black Doves', and the Caroline Lindy's indie film, "Your Monster". Keira Knightly morphs into a super spy with impressive fighting skills and a comedic relief spy best friend in a series that I thought rivaled any action movie in recent years. Then, Melissa Bererra gives an outstanding performance as a young woman dealing with a pile of disappointments and challenges amidst a backdrop of musical theater and fantasy. BONUS: Jax Taylor's silent Cameo and the recent luxury handbag upset by the "Wirkin"

Recap: RHOSLC S5E5 - Whitney Drew and Her Clues24 Oct 202401:01:56

An update on the journey into A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) before a recap of an episode that revealed family secrets and connections between Lisa and Bronwyn, showing a heartbreaking and endearing side of this season's new cast member. Meanwhile, Whitney continues to hunt for a conspirator that she believes is responsible for alerting the internet about her jewelry line, Prism, having an apparent copy on Alibaba. By the end of the episode, she's confident about finding the "truth"...all based on the word of a stranger who runs an online account. Finally, Britany wears us out with more camera time for her gum chewing Osmond offshoot, Lisa vows to stop caring about it, and Mary continues to bring comedic relief due to her irritation of it all.

Recap: RHOC S18 E15 - Double Decker Drama/Jen Reads Tamra to Filth22 Oct 202401:07:30

Tensions rise as the Real Housewives of Orange County tour London, work through conflicts, and absorb the revelation that Shannon found a text defining Alexis' role in the lawsuits from years ago. Tamra continues to talk crap about everyone, Heather has lingering hurt feelings post-mammogram outing, and Shannon finds another jaw dropping text - this time from Tamra. Jen shines in this episode, filling my heart with pride as we watch the sweet baby dove take fight and turn into a bird of prey, on the hunt for a little Tamrat. BONUS: current news on Jen's ex wanting to amend their divorce settlement after claiming she's made defamatory statements, and an OC history lesson about how Tamra's opinions on evictions, and spending habits that follow, have changed

Recap & A Rant: RHOC S18 E13 - You Are Cordially Not Invited, and Why I'm Horrified by the Prison Industry 09 Oct 202401:03:36

Katie's dinner party wraps up with Emily lightly grilling Ryan, and despite us not being clear on his profession, plays dumb like it's his job. Gina shows off home improvements, ladies peruse outdoor furniture, Heather and Emily finally discuss the fashion show faux pas. Alexis and her coach get mic'd up for a confessional but the episode culminates with the message that, it's Shannon's 60th birthday and she'll send a curt text if she wants to.

Throughout the adventures, simmering feelings of betrayal and mistrust linger between the Wendy's infused G-Wagon girlies - Bronwyn, Heather, and Lisa. Two Book Reviews: A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) and A Court of Mist And Fury (ACOMAF )02 Oct 202401:06:09

An unexpected double header after realizing that the second book in Sarah J. Maas' series is a LOT more enjoyable than the first. No major spoilers shared but listen at your own discretion because overall themes and obvious outcomes will be discussed. Why Tamlin never got my heart rate out of the resting zone, how Rhys seems like the kind of guy who would laugh at all your inappropriate jokes, and whether either would hold your hair back if you got sick. Each book is ranked 1-5 based on three categories: Spice, Adventure, and Character Development. BONUS: a Cate Blanchett movie recommendation

OC Slander, Drama, and a Recap: RHOC S18 E12 - The Elephant in the Room 30 Sep 202400:58:33

Lots of Orange County social media drama happened this weekend as Tamra dealt with the consequences of a highly inaccurate statement she made on Watch What Happens Live and Shannon weathered yet another storm. Then, episode twelve shares the news of Shannon's ex demanding $75k hitting the press, her reaction, and an unfortunate butt dial that gives Tamra more fodder. A dinner party at Katie's house is the main focus as Ryan and Jen finally come face to face with Eddie and Tamra to address podcast comments and perceptions in a calm and mature manner...jk, Tamra has too many martinis and it goes off the rails.
