🎙️ 𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗗𝗘 𝟭𝟳: 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗦, 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦 & 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦 Welcome back to another gloriously unfiltered episode of 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘆 – where sensible conversation comes to die, random facts are enthusiastically discussed and words occasionally emerge that have never before existed in the English language. 😂 This time we're recovering from the absolute mayhem of Lakefest, risking our eyesight during a solar eclipse, celebrating left-handers, wondering where all our brain cells have gone, discussing suspicious cats, discovering the surprisingly complicated world of granny squares and celebrating the friendships that spring up when people get together and have a laugh. Oh… and we meet Num𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗼𝗻. No, we hadn't heard of him either. 🤣 🎪 𝗟𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧: 𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗟 & 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗭𝗘 𝗦𝗠𝗨𝗚𝗚𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 What. A. Week. 😳 We kick things off with our adventures volunteering at 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 – five days, two gates, 21 brilliant volunteers, scorching temperatures and one enormous hill that appeared to have been designed specifically to finish us off. Walking down it? Fine. Walking back up it? 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗦 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗬𝗪𝗔𝗬? 🥵🤣 We discover that people who stop halfway up to admire the “lovely view” are actually saying, “I can't breathe and if I take another step I may die.” There's dust, mini tornadoes, moisturiser-related disasters, giant ice creams, bananas, sunflowers and some very inventive attempts to smuggle booze through security. 🍺🍦🍌 One unfortunate festival-goer even gets publicly congratulated when security discovers his hidden alcohol. 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗘𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘, 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘. 😳😂 And after several exhausting days, things get so bad that makeup is very nearly removed with 𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿. Possibly taking the eyeball with it. Next year we're taking a caravan. 😂 🌒 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗔𝗡 𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗦𝗘 Apparently there are special glasses for watching a solar eclipse. Who knew? 👀 Instead, we investigate alternative viewing methods before somebody does the one thing you're absolutely not supposed to do… 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦 𝗗𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗡. ☀️😳 Cue temporary splodges, mysterious shapes appearing around the garden and a period of pretending everything is absolutely fine when you can't actually see properly. We also hear how ancient tribes allegedly used their knowledge of eclipses to convince other people they could make the sun disappear – which, frankly, is some impressively advanced marketing. After all the excitement, the verdict on the eclipse? 𝗔 𝗕𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗔 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗗. 🦑 Yes. Squid. We're sticking with it. ✋ NU𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗡 & 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗧-𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗦 It's been 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁-𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆, so we're celebrating the creative geniuses who apparently favour their left hand. Albert Einstein. Leonardo da Vinci. Paul McCartney. Julius Caesar. And, of course… NUMP𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘. 🤣🤣🤣 Napoleon has officially been renamed. We also discover that kangaroos tend to favour their left paws and around 90% of parrots apparently use their left foot to pick things up. 🦘🦜 Educational content? On this podcast? Steady on. 🧠 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗚𝗢𝗡𝗘? We return to the subject of brain cells and ask what actually makes somebody intelligent. Is it education? Genetics? Life experience? Emotional intelligence? The ability to retain endless trivia? Or is the brain basically an overloaded computer that occasionally needs to 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲? 💻🧠 Our theory is that as you get older, you haven't necessarily forgotten everything – you've just got a much bigger library to search through. Unfortunately, sometimes the librarian appears to have gone for lunch. The conversation then takes the entirely natural scientific leap from intelligence to… 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗜𝗭𝗘. 😂 Festival bucket hats reveal that there may be several members of the 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 among us. And there's even a perfectly reasonable explanation for headaches: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁. 🤯 🐈 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗦: 𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗚𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟, 𝗩𝗜𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧 & 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗬 𝗧𝗪𝗢-𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨 Are you a cat person or a dog person? We're firmly leaning towards dogs. Dogs look at you and you know roughly what's going on. Cats look at you as though they're reviewing your performance and will be submitting their findings to management. 😾 One minute they're being affectionate. The next? 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗖𝗞. 🐾 We discuss the mysterious cat spotted attending Lakefest in a pram, cats supposedly absorbing negative energy and the story of 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗶, the resident cat from The Falcon Hotel in Bromyard, who disappeared before eventually being found eight miles away. Then there's Bear – a cat who appears to have discovered the ultimate cost-of-living hack by simply living with several different families and eating dinner at all of them. 😂 Forget nine lives. This one had multiple mortgages. 🧶 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦: 𝗡𝗢 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 It's 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆! Which sounds considerably more exciting once you discover the names of the crochet patterns. There's the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆. The 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆. And, our particular favourite… 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗 𝗡𝗢-𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬. 🧶🤣 Apparently there are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels to granny squares – something we were blissfully unaware of until now. We also ponder the ultimate fate of the lovingly crocheted blanket that somebody has spent months making for you. You admire it. You thank them. You treasure it. Then eventually… 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗚 𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗜𝗧. 🐕😂 Granny Square Day has officially entered our brains… …and immediately cleared the cache. 💬 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗣 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦 & 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦 Among all the silliness, there's something rather lovely about this episode too. ❤️ Our Lakefest WhatsApp group brought together people who didn't necessarily know one another beforehand, and over five days of working, laughing, sharing photos and surviving Hamburger Hill together, genuine new friendships were formed. And that leads us nicely to one of our fantastic listeners, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸, and his carp-fishing gang, the 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀. 🎣 Started in 2019, the group has brought together men and women with a shared passion for carp fishing – but it's about far more than catching fish. They're a community, they organise trips together, share tactics, help one another out and even have their own merchandise. 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬'𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗘. We really need to get our finger out. 🤣 Best of all, Mark listens to 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘆 while he's out fishing. So Mark and the Snagg Warriors – this one's for you! 🎣🎧❤️ 🎭 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗘: 𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚, 𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 & 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗖𝗞-𝗔𝗡𝗗-𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 Finally, we're back out and about around Herefordshire. ❤️ We chat about 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗠𝗣 at The Courtyard and the big names it's bringing into Hereford – including a forthcoming encounter with Jasper Carrott. We catch up with the wonderfully bonkers 𝗪𝘆𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁, where the basic principle remains beautifully simple: Find something that floats. Put on a ridiculous costume. Get on it. Try not to fall in. 😂🌊 We also give a big shout-out to our lovely listener 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵, who's bringing her Story Time magic to Marden Parish Hall on Sunday 30th August from 11:30, with sessions for the young and the young at heart. 📚✨ And there's a new arrival at Hereford Butter Market, with 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹 opening a stall where customers can order online and collect their goodies. Or, as we now prefer to call it… 🐔 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗖𝗞 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧. We're fairly sure that's going to catch on. 🎧 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗡𝗢𝗪! So grab a cuppa, stick us on in the car, take us for a walk, listen while you're fishing, crocheting a solid no-holes granny square or sitting somewhere quietly wondering where your brain cells went… …and join us for another half-hour of Herefordshire happenings, questionable facts, accidental words and conversations that rarely end up anywhere near where they started. 😂 🎙️ 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘆 – 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝟭𝟳 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗦, 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦 & 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦 🎧 Listen. Laugh. Follow. Share. And remember… 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗔𝗗𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦. 🐈🤣 👀 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘… 🥓 International Bacon Day 🧔 Beards 🖖 Star Trek What could possibly go wrong? 🎙️ Herefordshire Hearsay – Episode 13 🚲 Skydives, Stories and Summer Solstice ☀️ Buckle up (or perhaps strap on a parachute!) because Episode 13 takes us from the skies above Swansea to mysterious crop circles in rural Herefordshire, with a few giraffes, bicycles and builders thrown in for good measure. Here's what's coming up... 🪂 Taking the Plunge! We hear about nervous jumpers, incredible views and a fundraising total that left everyone smiling. Would you do a skydive? We’re still not entirely convinced... 🦆 Come Dine with Pauline A candlelit dinner sparks memories of one of Pauline's most memorable culinary disasters involving duck fillets that mysteriously transformed into something resembling conkers! The conversation turns to entertaining friends, dinner parties and why good company is often more important than good cooking. 🚲 National Bike Week (A Bit Late!) We may have missed National Bike Week by a few days, but that doesn't stop us chatting about childhood cycling adventures, scraped knees, bike proficiency tests and those ever-popular Beryl Bikes that seem to appear in the strangest places. Plus, we celebrate some fantastic local cycling initiatives. 😂 Tongue Twisters & Barry from Watford A simple mention of a bicycle museum sends the conversation spectacularly off course and into the wonderfully bizarre world of Barry from Watford and Clinton Baptiste. Expect laughter, dodgy impressions and plenty of confusion along the way. 🏡 Pauline's Patio Project Pauline's garden makeover continues as she introduces two local tradesmen who have transformed her patio area. We chat bricklaying, landscaping, learning new skills and why finding reliable local tradespeople is worth celebrating. 🦒 World Giraffe Day Why is World Giraffe Day celebrated on the Summer Solstice? | Eurovision, The Lost Tapes & a Very Heavy Mattress | 10 May 2026 | 00:33:34
🎙️ Episode 10 – Eurovision, The Lost Tapes & a Very Heavy Mattress This week on Herefordshire Hearsay, things spiral beautifully out of control as we discuss donuts, Eurovision fever, trapped limbs, rescued seagulls and mysterious old videotapes. Basically… business as usual. Grab a coffee (and possibly a caramel custard donut) because this episode is packed with laughs, nostalgia and wonderfully random Herefordshire chaos. 🍩 Donuts, Cake & Dangerous Levels of Custard We celebrate National Donut Week in the only way we know how — by aggressively taste-testing caramel custard donuts from Greggs and nearly entering another dimension. Meanwhile, Kerry heads off to the gorgeous Aymestrey Patisserie where her husband makes a bold two-cake decision he may later regret… and she ends up playing fetch with the world’s cleverest collie dog carrying THREE tennis balls at once. Also featured: ✨ Millionaire shortbread ✨ Fancy coffee ✨ Dog admiration ✨ Full custard facial incidents 🍳 The Great Baked Bean Debate at Docklow We head out on location to Docklow Pools Fisherman’s Arms for a breakfast expedition and immediately get pulled into the great national crisis: Should beans be on the plate… or in a pot? Pauline threatens legal action over beans touching eggs, how bizarre! While Kerry quietly removes all beans from existence entirely. Plus: 🥓 Excellent breakfasts ☕ Lakeside walks 😂 National Laughter Day 💚 Lovely chats with Jackie & Keith 🎡 Lakefest Excitement! We talk all things Lakefest and our brilliant interview with Lee from Lakefest for an upcoming Story Seat special. Without giving too much away… it was emotional, inspiring and filmed in a very unexpected location. Honestly, what a lovely human being. 🛏️ Rug Escapades Pauline vs The Mattress Possibly one of the greatest stories in podcast history. Pauline buys a giant rug for her bedroom and attempts to move an impossibly heavy bed entirely on her own. What follows includes: ⚠️ Being trapped under a mattress ⚠️ No phone nearby ⚠️ Exhaustion sandwiches ⚠️ A triumphant rug victory Against all odds… the rug ended up perfectly square. 🐦 Meet Ralph the Seagull Yes. We’ve named a seagull. Pauline tells the incredible story of rescuing baby Ralph after he fell off the roof, nursing him back to health, chasing him up the road with a net, and eventually watching him return years later demanding broccoli quiche at the back door. He now taps on the roof every morning for breakfast. Frankly, Ralph may now own the house. 🎤 Eurovision Fever Arrives Eurovision season is here and emotions are running high. We chat about: 🎶 ABBA 🎶 Dana 🎶 Mary Hopkin 🎶 Dressing up for Eurovision parties 🎶 This year’s wildly chaotic UK entry Can Britain finally win? Probably not. But we remain emotionally committed. 📼 The Lost Tapes Pauline uncovers ancient VHS recordings of her sons pretending to be a rock band in the cellar during the glorious long-haired teenage years. Expect: 🎸 Fake band documentaries 🎸 Mobbing “fans” 🎸 Ghostly dressing gown appearances 🎸 Accidental family commentary preserved forever Somewhere between Spinal Tap and complete disaster. 👽 Bromyard Aliens & Pentagon Files Doug from Bromyard is BACK with more UFO theories… and annoyingly, current events may actually support him this time. We discuss: 🛸 Pentagon UFO file releases 🛸 Crop circles 🛸 Cashpoint aliens 🛸 Whether Doug should be banned from phoning in forever The truth is out there. Unfortunately, so is Doug. 🌿 Out & About in Herefordshire This week we also chat about: 🌱 The Cart Shed Plant Fair at Garnons 🦉 Herefordshire Wildlife Trust 🥕 Riverford organic veg boxes 🚂 Waterworks Museum steam days 📚 Hay Festival excitement 🐂 The return of the Hereford Bull Trail There’s always something happening in Herefordshire… even if half of it involves cake or wildlife. 📢 Coming Next Time… In the next episode we’ll be talking about: 🛁 Towel Day - in memory of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams. 🧛 World Dracula Day 🛸 More crop circle nonsense 🎉 A brand new competition …plus whatever else happens when we leave the house unsupervised. 🎙️ Episode 9: Kebabs, Congas & Close Encounters Buckle up, because this episode is a proper mixed bag—in the best possible way. From tea-fuelled debates and nostalgic nights out, to aliens in Bromyard (yes, really), we’re covering it all. 🫖 Tea, Chat & Garden Gossip We celebrate National Tea Day the only way we know how—with strong opinions and plenty of cups of the good stuff ☕ Builders’ tea vs posh tea leaves… there’s only one winner (or is there?) A lovely catch-up in a beautiful garden with chickens, sunshine and great company Why fruit tea smells amazing but never quite delivers 🕺 Throwback Nights & Dancefloor Moves We take a trip down memory lane to Hereford’s iconic nightlife: Sticky carpets, legendary clubs and late-night kebab runs The unspoken art of dancing like nobody’s watching (even when they definitely are) And yes… the conga makes an appearance 🌯 Kebabs, Cake & Questionable Choices Food gets a mention (obviously): The magical, homing-device powers of a post-night-out kebab Carrot cake in the garden (a slightly more civilised option) And a shocking confession… someone’s NEVER had a kebab 😱 🎭 Fancy Dress & Party Chaos From Vikings to custard pie battles, we dive into party memories: Why dressing up brings out your inner actor The genius (and mess) of a custard pie party And why we might just embrace fancy dress a bit more 👽 Bromyard’s Close Encounters It wouldn’t be Herefordshire Hearsay without a bit of mystery… Doug is back with MORE alien sightings 👀 Crop circles, cash points and a very suspicious “visitor” We investigate further with a local postie who’s not entirely convinced 🎬 Lights, Camera… Extras! We’ve got a plan—and it involves the big screen: Why we’re signing up to be TV and film extras The reality of background acting (no talking allowed!) And why we’d probably ruin every scene by laughing 🚗 Driving Disasters & Life Lessons We share some truly questionable driving experiences: Learning to drive in chaos (and surviving it) Cars with minds of their own And why not everyone is cut out to be a high-speed pursuit driver 🚓 🎡 What’s On in Herefordshire There’s loads happening locally, so get involved! The historic Hereford May Fair (900 years old!) Chilli Fest 🌶️ (for the brave) Medieval jousting, spring festivals and family fun days And a brilliant free community event where phones are down and fun is up 🙌 👀 Coming Up Next… We’ll be out and about again: Testing a famous breakfast 🍳 Visiting local spots and uncovering more stories And, of course… keeping an eye on Bromyard 👽 Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook & Instagram to keep up with all the latest from Herefordshire Hearsay. | Psychics, Sausage Rolls & Suspicious Aliens | 13 Apr 2026 | 00:32:04
Episode 8 – Psychics, Sausage Rolls & Suspicious Aliens 💪 Gym Tales & Gladiator Fails We kick things off with what we’ve been up to lately. Kerry has been strength training with her awesome personal trainer, Jack, while Pauline firmly maintains that her preferred workout is walking… to eat cake. Pauline also recounts her unforgettable encounter with “Deadlift Dave,” who tried to persuade her to stay at the gym even after she’d handed in her notice. Pauline then whisks us off to Italy 🇮🇹, where modern-day gladiators attempted to charge her for photos in Rome. She also shares a cringe-worthy tale from a previous visit when her purse was stolen—and the Italian police couldn’t stop laughing at her Google Translate statement. Mamma Mia! 😂 🐾🎪 National Pet Day & World Circus Day It’s a double celebration as we mark National Pet Day and World Circus Day! Kerry relives a childhood trip to the circus that ended with her face-down in the mud after tripping over a tent rope—ruining her brand-new coat and providing lifelong embarrassment on the bus ride home. Naturally, we discuss what our dream circus roles would be. Kerry fancies herself as a fortune teller or knife thrower, while Pauline recalls pretending to be a psychic at a police charity event—only to be recognised weeks later in a chip shop as “the best psychic in Herefordshire!” 🔮 We also hear about a psychic policeman from Ludlow and Pauline’s hilarious mix-up between a cannonball and a cannibal. Easy mistake… right? 🎪 Roll Up, Roll Up! Life Under the Big Top Pauline hits the streets to ask locals what they’d do in the circus.
Kerry also shares a fun fact about Kwame the contortionist, who famously tangled himself into a knot during the “Preston Park Twist” and needed an osteopath to unravel him. Talk about bending over backwards for your art! 🐕 A Guide Dog with a Taste for Sausage Rolls Pauline fondly remembers her former police colleague Pervez, whose guide dog insisted on leading him to Greggs every lunchtime for a sausage roll. Apparently, it wasn’t Pervez’s idea… or so he claimed. 🌭 🌱 National Gardening Day We celebrate National Gardening Day with a lively debate on the best way to grow tomatoes:
No judgement here! 🍅 🍽️ The Art of the Polite Review Christine from Ledbury calls in for advice after dining at a dreadful restaurant run by a lovely family. How do you leave a kind TripAdvisor review without offending them? Our suggestions include praising:
Constructive criticism at its finest! 🍔 Jeff & Ted: The Final Chapter? We receive an update on Jeff and Ted, who have finally returned home from their edible escapades. Jeff’s wife Sandra has given them a good meal and told them to grow up—potentially the last we hear from the duo! 🛍️ Vintage Vibes at Hereford Buttermarket Pauline meets Sam from Revibe, a vintage stall in Hereford’s Buttermarket. While her treasures are beloved, it’s her adorable dog that steals the show. If she sold dogs, she’d be a millionaire! 🐾 👽 Suspicious Sightings in Bromyard Doug from Bromyard calls into the radio station with a chilling tale. Walking home from the pub one evening, he encountered what he believes was an alien with glowing red eyes. Terrified, he fled for his life! He also recalls a menacing black cat that nearly finished him off—if not for his loyal dog, Rusty. Kerry and Pauline are now inviting Bromyard residents to confirm… have you seen it too? 👀 📣 Join the Conversation! From psychics and circus clowns to sausage rolls and suspicious aliens, this episode is packed with laughter and unforgettable stories. 🎧 Listen now to Episode 8 – Psychics, Sausage Rolls & Suspicious Aliens on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. | Veterans, Motorbikes & Business | 12 Apr 2026 | 00:10:39
Veterans, Motorbikes & Business– The Emma O’Hare Story Seat Interview In this Herefordshire Hearsay Story Seat episode, we sit down with Emma O’Hare, a veteran outreach worker at Herefordshire Veteran Support Centre, to talk about her life, her work, and the many unexpected paths that led her to where she is today. Emma shares stories from her time in the police, how she became a proud “motomum” supporting her son in motocross, and how that world led her to learn how to repair motorbikes herself. What started as an idea to connect other motomums with a simple t-shirt design soon grew into a popular online clothing brand. Most importantly, Emma talks about her passion for supporting veterans in Herefordshire and her ambitions to build and expand the services available to those who have served. Emma is full of energy, humour, honesty and heart, and this Story Seat interview is a brilliant, funny and inspiring conversation you won’t want to miss. | Unexpected Item in the Bagging Area | 29 Mar 2026 | 00:32:04
Episode 7 – Unexpected Item in the Bagging Area 🗓️ What Have We Been Up To Then?! We kick off the episode with a catch-up on what we’ve been up to since the last episode. Kerry discovered the Waiter’s Race in Hereford, which turned out to be like something straight out of It’s a Knockout — lots of running, chaos, and things nearly being dropped… all in aid of National Restaurant Week. Kerry also went to the Fawlty Towers Dining Experience, where Manuel managed to goad a diner into charging at him with two forks on his head while he played matador with a serviette. Completely bonkers and very funny. Meanwhile, Pauline has been chatting with the Real Birth Studio and enjoying a few meals out with her college friends — very civilised! 🌭 National Something on a Stick Day This important national event led us down memory lane to the good old days when everything came on a stick, sausages, cheese, pineapple, probably entire meals if you looked hard enough. Simple times. Food tasted better when it was served on a cocktail stick. 🎭 Shakespeare Week in Hereford It was Shakespeare Week, so we went out and spoke to some Hereford locals to see what they knew. Special mention goes to Pete, Pauline’s neighbour, who seemed to have an endless supply of Shakespeare quotes ready to go. We suspect he may have been revising all week. Much quoting, some confusion, and possibly a few made-up lines… 🎩 Wear a Hat Day Pauline explains that she has a big brain and a small head, which makes hat shopping difficult. Kerry, however, loves a hat and fully embraces Wear a Hat Day. We also discuss:
🎨 Man in the Hat – Mac MacDonald Pauline interviews Mac MacDonald, a painter she met in the Old Market in Hereford, mainly because he was wearing a very distinctive hat. He turned out to be a brilliant character, originally from London with a strong cockney accent but has lived in Ross-on-Wye for 30 years. Apparently no one recognises him without his hat, which he has repaired countless times and refuses to throw away. The hat stays. Forever. 🦜 Percy the Parrot (And The Dog…) We move on to pets, and Pauline tells the unforgettable story of Percy the African Grey parrot who escaped, flew over the houses shouting: “BUGGER OFF!” …while cackling. He was eventually recaptured… only to later be eaten by the family dog Sophie, who had previously also eaten the hamster. That dog had form. 🛒 Self-Service Checkout Rage Kerry talks about the absolute palaver at self-service checkouts now, especially meat locked in plastic anti-theft prisons that the scanner then refuses to recognise. Cue the machine repeatedly shouting: “Unexpected item in the bagging area.” Pauline then tells the story about her friend trying to discreetly buy condoms, only for the self-checkout to loudly summon assistance and announce the situation to the entire shop. Possibly the most embarrassing shopping trip of all time. 🧭 Jeff & Ted Update We have an update on Jeff and Ted, who are now being tracked by survival expert Steve Chance. Pauline interviews him while standing in for a radio presenter called Alan… However Steve is so focused on his story that he keeps calling Pauline Alan throughout the interview. She gave up correcting him in the end. 📣 Shout Outs! This episode’s shout outs go to:

Episode 6 – Peas, Phone Boxes & Predictive Text Welcome back to Herefordshire Hearsay, where this week’s episode is packed with community heroes, nostalgic memories, awkward social moments and a few food-related near disasters. Here’s what’s coming up… 💛 Celebrating Local Volunteers We begin by shining a spotlight on the amazing volunteers at Lee’s Place and the Hit Squad in Hereford, recognising the time, energy and kindness they give to the community. 👖 The Great Trouser Debate Pauline raises an important question: When did trousers become “a trouser”? Why are shops suddenly referring to clothing in the singular when you clearly have two legs? We investigate the strange world of modern retail language. 🍽️ Dining Out Disasters We share some unforgettable restaurant faux pas, including: • Pauline’s steak night table-top disaster that launched peas across the room • The diner who thought the hot towel at the end of an Indian meal was a snack to take home • Kerry’s dinner guest who nearly ate pot pourri thinking it was Bombay mix Yes… really. 🛒 Facebook Marketplace Madness We dive into the strange and hilarious things people try to sell online, including items described as: • “Only used once” • “Never opened with a small stain” • Dog clippers apparently used “once on the wife” You couldn’t make it up. 📱 When Text Messages Go Wrong Autocorrect disasters, predictive text mishaps and the panic of sending a message to the completely wrong person… we’ve all been there. ☎️ Life Before Mobile Phones We take a nostalgic trip back to the days of: • Queuing outside phone boxes in the rain • Dial telephones that took forever to call anyone • Shared party lines where neighbours could accidentally (or deliberately) listen in on your calls • Making prank calls from the phone book Simpler times… sort of. Awkward Social Situations From hugs that last far too long, to waving at someone who wasn’t actually waving at you, we explore those painfully funny social moments with Max and Lucia. 🌳 Why Everyone Knows Everyone in Herefordshire Max shares his perspective on local life from a German viewpoint, while Pauline reflects on growing up on the College Estate in Hereford and Kerry explains why the county has completely captured her heart. Jeff & Ted’s Edible Adventure – The Saga Continues Jeff and Ted are still somewhere in the hills testing their edible underwear survival concept, but Sandra is starting to worry after not hearing from Jeff for two weeks. Will Bear Grylls track them down and steal their idea? The mystery deepens… 📣 Shire Shout-Outs This week we celebrate: 💛 Sue at St Michael’s Hospice reception 🏡 Bartestree Village Shop – a true community hub 🔧 Central Garage in Hereford, run by the Sockett brothers Local legends keeping the county brilliant. 🎧 Coming Up Next Time In the next episode we’ll be chatting about Red Nose Day, Shakespeare Week and Wear a Hat Day, plus more stories, laughs and Herefordshire moments. 🎧 Listen now to Episode 6 of Herefordshire Hearsay — stories, silliness and the Shire at its finest. | Chips, Cinema & Survival Pants | 01 Mar 2026 | 00:28:21
🎙️ Episode 5 – Chips, Cinema & Survival Pants Welcome back to Herefordshire Hearsay, in this gloriously wide-ranging episode we chat cinema nostalgia, popcorn disasters and a catapulting incident that could have ended oh so badly! We celebrate National Chip Week and National Pie Week (with some very strong opinions), wander around Hereford Butter Market meeting local legends, and check back in with Jeff and Ted… whose edible underwear “adventure” has now escalated to survival testing in the hills. It’s funny, it’s unpredictable, and it’s peak Herefordshire chaos. 🎙️ Here’s what’s coming up… 🍿 Cinema Confessions We’re talking horror films, superhero snoring, dropped popcorn disasters and the golden days of Saturday morning cinema clubs. Is the cinema ticket price still worth it and taking out a small mortgage for popcorn? We debate. Plus: a Brighton trampoline incident that absolutely nobody was prepared for! 🍟 National Chip Week & 🥧 National Pie Week Important questions were asked:
And why is chicken & leek officially Britain’s favourite pie?! We hit the streets of Hereford and dropped into the Butter Market to investigate. 🏬 Butter Market Banter We met the lovely Jane & Carol at Hillman’s Florist (laughing before 9.00am – what absolute icons). We chatted bacon and running with Ralph from Mailes Bros, whose market stall has been there 90 years! And Anthony from CN Trophies gave us strong chip opinions and engraving insights. And a sneak peek at his Havana cigars! Honestly, we could’ve stayed all morning. 🩲 Jeff & Ted’s Edible Adventure – The Saga Escalates They’re BACK. Jeff and Ted are now “product testing” edible underwear on the hills. There are survival flavours. There are bears. There is a retired “expert” called Dr Draper discussing tensile strength and thermodynamic thong failure. Sandra is not impressed. We are concerned. | Pancake Tossers, Pyjamas & Jeff’s Savoury Side Hustle | 15 Feb 2026 | 00:34:03
Episode 4 — Pancake Tossers, Pyjamas & Jeff’s Savoury Side Hustle Welcome back to Herefordshire Hearsay where the tea is hot, the opinions are questionable, and Jeff from Belmont is… still Jeffing. In this episode we cover romance (or lack of it), record-breaking pancake tossing, pyjamas in public, pottery that sounds suspiciously inappropriate on the radio, and a business idea that absolutely no one asked for. Brace yourselves. ☕ Chatty Cafés & CPR Confessions Kerry’s been busy helping launch Hereford’s first Chatty Café, a Monday morning meet-up tackling loneliness one cuppa at a time (10–12 at Community Power next to Tanner’s Wines 💛). There’s also first aid training, over-enthusiastic CPR, headless resus dolls and the surprising life-saving power of defibrillators. Fact fans: using a defib could increase survival rates to around 80%. You’re welcome. 🎲 Blood on the Clocktower We infiltrated Herefordshire Boardgamers for an evening of deception, suspicion and “Who’s the demon then?” If you love The Traitors, you’ll love this. Social deduction, psychological warfare and tea and cake at the interval. What’s not to like? 💘 Valentine’s Day: Romance Is Dead (Apparently) No cards. No roses. One garage bouquet. We share your worst Valentine’s gifts (new wheels for a sack truck, anyone?) plus: Kerry’s unforgettable travelling Valentine card Pauline’s accidental and costly repeat date Katie’s husband choosing the dog over her at New Year, yes it's true! Romance is alive and well in Herefordshire. Sort of. 🥡 Pyjamas at the Chinese Would you collect your takeaway in Crocs and nightwear? Because someone did. And we saw it. And we cannot unsee it. 🩲 Jeff from Belmont — The Saga Continues Jeff has confessed. Sandra knows. The marriage may survive. But now he’s launching a business inspired by 1970s edible underwear… with a savoury twist. Barbecue. Cheese & onion. Curry flavour. We apologise in advance. 🥞 What Kind of Tosser Are You? Pancake Day is 47 days before Easter (fact). 890 people once flipped pancakes at the same time (fact). But the real question is — are you:
Let us know. We’re judging. Lovingly. 🏺 Pottery, Murder & Mild Chaos We chat pottery throwing at Eastnor, murder mystery nights at The Grange and Baskerville Hall, and Pauline’s surprisingly graphic homemade whodunnits (blood in wheelbarrows included). 📣 Shire Shout-outs Real Birth Studio — empowering, ethical and passionate about better birth experiences. Clean Sweep, Ian the chimney hero and all round good egg! Beehive Florist, where you'll find stunning flowers and top-tier social media content. Local legends. We salute you. 🗓 Coming Up in Episode 5 We talk to more interesting locals... It's National Chip Week 🍟 how do you like yours? It's National Pie Week 🥧 what's your favourite filling? And Jeff’s “exciting” new venture… You’ve been warned. 🎧 Listen now to Episode 5 of Herefordshire Hearsay — stories, silliness and the Shire at its finest. No artistic dignity survived. 👑 Don’t Mess with Rosemary A huge shout-out to Rosemary Rigby MBE, celebrating 90 years of fundraising, fearlessness and fierce gardening supervision — plus a visit to the Violette Szabo Museum (and a strong recommendation to watch Carve Her Name With Pride). 🍪 The Great British Biscuit Debate
We investigate with polls, “experts” and some deeply questionable statistics. 🧂 Snack Disasters A Pringles tube traps a hand. Custard creams fall from cupboards. Health & safety helmets may soon be required in Herefordshire kitchens. 🎶 Festival Fever What’s coming up this summer: Nozstock Into the Valley (17–18 July) Eastnor Lakefest (5–9 August) Beer on the Wye (10–12 July) – back with a bang! Plus a legendary streaker story involving a guitar, a stage and some very quick security. 🚌 Bus Strangers! The Big Stare Off! Accidental eye contact turns into a full-blown staring contest, missed stops, awkward advice and romantic possibilities included. 🚨 Jeff from Belmont: The Saga Continues Police warnings. A disgruntled vicar. No tea bags. Jeff says “no comment”. 📣 Shire Shout-Outs Local legends, local businesses and personal trainers getting the love they deserve. 🎭 Meeting Basil, Sybil and Manuel, what could go wrong? | The 5 & 10 Club – Laps, Laughs & a Lot of Lovely People | 25 Jan 2026 | 00:07:57
This week we headed to the Hereford Racecourse cycle track to check out the 5 & 10 Club — and let’s just say… we left smiling, slightly breathless, and very impressed. Pauline and Kerry even took one of the bikes out for a spin (Pauline steering, Kerry pedalling — teamwork makes the dream work 🚴♀️). While out on the track, we chatted to Josie, a regular member who shared why she keeps coming back and what makes the group such a welcoming, feel-good place to be. Back at the clubhouse, we sat down with Jim Kenyon, the founder and organiser of the 5 & 10 Club, to hear how the group began, why inclusivity and “no judgement” were non-negotiable from day one, and how something so simple has grown into a much-loved Monday night community. The 5 & 10 Club is all about doing what you can — walk or cycle as little or as much as you fancy, borrow a bike (including adapted bikes), then stick around for a chat and refreshments. No pressure, no competition, no Lycra required. If you’ve ever thought “I should probably get moving… but I don’t want it to be awkward” — this episode (and this club) might just be for you. 🎧 In this episode you’ll hear:
Pop the kettle on, have a listen, and see why this brilliant Hereford group is lapping up the love, one Monday night at a time. 💙

Episode 1 — Wassailing, Panto & the Presenter We’d Party With Welcome to the debut episode of Herefordshire Hearsay, the podcast that celebrates the people, places and quirky charm of our wonderful county. In this episode, your hosts Pauline and Kerry dive straight into the good stuff with stories, laughs, and a few questionable bits of advice. 🌳 What's happening in The Shire… 🍎 Wassailing Wonders We kick things off by exploring the ancient Herefordshire tradition of wassailing. What it's all about and why Kerry thinks it's a cross between a good Hammer Horror film and a visit to Royston Vasey! Torch light processions, strange effigies and a bit of Morris dancing thrown in too! A normal evening's entertainment in Herefordshire on a cold winter night. 📣 Snowden, Foxes and a Magical Moment Hear Darren (aka Ricky Gervais) tell us about his magical wild camping trip up Snowden and how he once rubbed noses with a mountain fox. It's true and thankfully his nose is still intact! 🕺 Reliving Summers in Kington Pauline takes a nostalgic trip back to her younger days when she spent her summer holidays on a farm in Kington. Will she ever find Colin again? Who remembers Granny, Spider and the aggressive goat. Kington folk we need your help! 🎭 Panto Season Prep It’s behind you! (Sorry, we had to.) We chat about the upcoming Herefordshire pantomime season at The Courtyard. It's Mother Goose this year. The wonderful cast, the vibe, why adult night is so popular and why you don't put your hand up to help the Dame. And of course the classic pantomime singalong that has you humming all the way home. 💌 Dear Herefordshire Our agony aunt feature kicks off with a lively festive dilemma sent in by a listener from Belmont. Expect wise advice (not)! empathy… and a large dollop of laughter. Budgies or boxers indeed! 📻 The BBC Hereford & Worcester Radio Question We Had To Answer Find out which presenter would we want a night out with? Why? (well why not!) Should we have shared this publicly? Probably not, but it’s too late now. 🌳 Fab Furniture Find out if Pauline will ever get her bedroom furniture transformed, will her fusion paint remodel do the trick! 📣 The Shire Shout-out We celebrate local legends, groups and businesses doing great things in the community.
