Two friends, one podcast, & plenty of local chatter. We shine a spotlight on Herefordshire’s people, stories, and quirks with plenty of conversation, laughter and a few cheeky features. We'll be doling out some Dear Herefordshire agony aunt advice to those of you with a dilemma (anonymously of course, with lots of nonsense and teasing) and playing your community shout-outs and messages. Plus we'll be gathering the gossip from the Shire in our 'Word on the Street' feature and interviewing some local legends for our Story Seat too. We can't wait to bring you a snapshot of life in our wonderfully weird part of the country.

Welcome back to another gloriously unfiltered episode of 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘆 – where sensible conversation comes to die, random facts are enthusiastically discussed and words occasionally emerge that have never before existed in the English language. 😂
This time we're recovering from the absolute mayhem of Lakefest, risking our eyesight during a solar eclipse, celebrating left-handers, wondering where all our brain cells have gone, discussing suspicious cats, discovering the surprisingly complicated world of granny squares and celebrating the friendships that spring up when people get together and have a laugh.
Oh… and we meet Num𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗼𝗻.
No, we hadn't heard of him either. 🤣
🎪 𝗟𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧: 𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗟 & 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗭𝗘 𝗦𝗠𝗨𝗚𝗚𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦
What. A. Week. 😳
We kick things off with our adventures volunteering at 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 – five days, two gates, 21 brilliant volunteers, scorching temperatures and one enormous hill that appeared to have been designed specifically to finish us off.
Walking down it? Fine.
Walking back up it?
𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗦 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗬𝗪𝗔𝗬? 🥵🤣
We discover that people who stop halfway up to admire the “lovely view” are actually saying, “I can't breathe and if I take another step I may die.”
There's dust, mini tornadoes, moisturiser-related disasters, giant ice creams, bananas, sunflowers and some very inventive attempts to smuggle booze through security. 🍺🍦🍌
One unfortunate festival-goer even gets publicly congratulated when security discovers his hidden alcohol.
𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗘𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘, 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘. 😳😂
And after several exhausting days, things get so bad that makeup is very nearly removed with 𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.
Possibly taking the eyeball with it.
Next year we're taking a caravan. 😂
🌒 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗔𝗡 𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗦𝗘
Apparently there are special glasses for watching a solar eclipse.
Who knew? 👀
Instead, we investigate alternative viewing methods before somebody does the one thing you're absolutely not supposed to do…
𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦 𝗗𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗡. ☀️😳
Cue temporary splodges, mysterious shapes appearing around the garden and a period of pretending everything is absolutely fine when you can't actually see properly.
We also hear how ancient tribes allegedly used their knowledge of eclipses to convince other people they could make the sun disappear – which, frankly, is some impressively advanced marketing.
After all the excitement, the verdict on the eclipse?
𝗔 𝗕𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗔 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗗. 🦑
Yes. Squid.
We're sticking with it.
✋ NU𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗡 & 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗧-𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗦
It's been 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁-𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆, so we're celebrating the creative geniuses who apparently favour their left hand.
Albert Einstein. Leonardo da Vinci. Paul McCartney. Julius Caesar.
And, of course…
NUMP𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘. 🤣🤣🤣
Napoleon has officially been renamed.
We also discover that kangaroos tend to favour their left paws and around 90% of parrots apparently use their left foot to pick things up. 🦘🦜
Educational content?
On this podcast?
Steady on.
🧠 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗚𝗢𝗡𝗘?
We return to the subject of brain cells and ask what actually makes somebody intelligent.
Is it education? Genetics? Life experience? Emotional intelligence? The ability to retain endless trivia?
Or is the brain basically an overloaded computer that occasionally needs to 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲? 💻🧠
Our theory is that as you get older, you haven't necessarily forgotten everything – you've just got a much bigger library to search through.
Unfortunately, sometimes the librarian appears to have gone for lunch.
The conversation then takes the entirely natural scientific leap from intelligence to…
𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗜𝗭𝗘. 😂
Festival bucket hats reveal that there may be several members of the 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 among us.
And there's even a perfectly reasonable explanation for headaches:
Dogs look at you and you know roughly what's going on.
Cats look at you as though they're reviewing your performance and will be submitting their findings to management. 😾
One minute they're being affectionate.
The next?
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗖𝗞. 🐾
We discuss the mysterious cat spotted attending Lakefest in a pram, cats supposedly absorbing negative energy and the story of 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗶, the resident cat from The Falcon Hotel in Bromyard, who disappeared before eventually being found eight miles away.
Then there's Bear – a cat who appears to have discovered the ultimate cost-of-living hack by simply living with several different families and eating dinner at all of them. 😂
Forget nine lives.
This one had multiple mortgages.
🧶 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦: 𝗡𝗢 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘
It's 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆!
Which sounds considerably more exciting once you discover the names of the crochet patterns.
There's the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆.
The 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆.
And, our particular favourite…
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗 𝗡𝗢-𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗬. 🧶🤣
Apparently there are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels to granny squares – something we were blissfully unaware of until now.
We also ponder the ultimate fate of the lovingly crocheted blanket that somebody has spent months making for you.
You admire it.
You thank them.
You treasure it.
Then eventually…
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗚 𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗜𝗧. 🐕😂
Granny Square Day has officially entered our brains…
…and immediately cleared the cache.
💬 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗣 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦 & 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦
Among all the silliness, there's something rather lovely about this episode too. ❤️
Our Lakefest WhatsApp group brought together people who didn't necessarily know one another beforehand, and over five days of working, laughing, sharing photos and surviving Hamburger Hill together, genuine new friendships were formed.
And that leads us nicely to one of our fantastic listeners, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸, and his carp-fishing gang, the 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀. 🎣
Started in 2019, the group has brought together men and women with a shared passion for carp fishing – but it's about far more than catching fish.
They're a community, they organise trips together, share tactics, help one another out and even have their own merchandise.
𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬'𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗘.
We really need to get our finger out. 🤣
Best of all, Mark listens to 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘆 while he's out fishing.
So Mark and the Snagg Warriors – this one's for you! 🎣🎧❤️
Finally, we're back out and about around Herefordshire. ❤️
We chat about 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗠𝗣 at The Courtyard and the big names it's bringing into Hereford – including a forthcoming encounter with Jasper Carrott.
We catch up with the wonderfully bonkers 𝗪𝘆𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁, where the basic principle remains beautifully simple:
Find something that floats.
Put on a ridiculous costume.
Get on it.
Try not to fall in. 😂🌊
We also give a big shout-out to our lovely listener 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵, who's bringing her Story Time magic to Marden Parish Hall on Sunday 30th August from 11:30, with sessions for the young and the young at heart. 📚✨
And there's a new arrival at Hereford Butter Market, with 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹 opening a stall where customers can order online and collect their goodies.
Or, as we now prefer to call it…
🐔 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗖𝗞 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧.
We're fairly sure that's going to catch on.
🎧 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗡𝗢𝗪!
So grab a cuppa, stick us on in the car, take us for a walk, listen while you're fishing, crocheting a solid no-holes granny square or sitting somewhere quietly wondering where your brain cells went…
…and join us for another half-hour of Herefordshire happenings, questionable facts, accidental words and conversations that rarely end up anywhere near where they started. 😂

🎙️ Herefordshire Hearsay – Episode 13
🚲 Skydives, Stories and Summer Solstice ☀️
Buckle up (or perhaps strap on a parachute!) because Episode 13 takes us from the skies above Swansea to mysterious crop circles in rural Herefordshire, with a few giraffes, bicycles and builders thrown in for good measure.
Here's what's coming up...
🪂 Taking the Plunge!
Kerry heads to Swansea Airport to support a charity skydive and discovers that jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane might actually be quite addictive! We hear about nervous jumpers, incredible views and a fundraising total that left everyone smiling.
Would you do a skydive? We’re still not entirely convinced...
🦆 Come Dine with Pauline
A candlelit dinner sparks memories of one of Pauline's most memorable culinary disasters involving duck fillets that mysteriously transformed into something resembling conkers!
The conversation turns to entertaining friends, dinner parties and why good company is often more important than good cooking.
🚲 National Bike Week (A Bit Late!)
We may have missed National Bike Week by a few days, but that doesn't stop us chatting about childhood cycling adventures, scraped knees, bike proficiency tests and those ever-popular Beryl Bikes that seem to appear in the strangest places.
Plus, we celebrate some fantastic local cycling initiatives.

Episode 10
Sunday, May 10, 2026 • Duration 33:34
🎙️ Episode 10 – Eurovision, The Lost Tapes & a Very Heavy Mattress
This week on Herefordshire Hearsay, things spiral beautifully out of control as we discuss donuts, Eurovision fever, trapped limbs, rescued seagulls and mysterious old videotapes. Basically… business as usual.
Grab a coffee (and possibly a caramel custard donut) because this episode is packed with laughs, nostalgia and wonderfully random Herefordshire chaos.
🍩 Donuts, Cake & Dangerous Levels of Custard
We celebrate National Donut Week in the only way we know how — by aggressively taste-testing caramel custard donuts from Greggs and nearly entering another dimension.
Meanwhile, Kerry heads off to the gorgeous Aymestrey Patisserie where her husband makes a bold two-cake decision he may later regret… and she ends up playing fetch with the world’s cleverest collie dog carrying THREE tennis balls at once.
Also featured:

🍳 The Great Baked Bean Debate at Docklow
We head out on location to Docklow Pools Fisherman’s Arms for a breakfast expedition and immediately get pulled into the great national crisis:
Should beans be on the plate… or in a pot?
Pauline threatens legal action over beans touching eggs, how bizarre! While Kerry quietly removes all beans from existence entirely.
Plus:
🥓 Excellent breakfasts
☕ Lakeside walks
😂 National Laughter Day

Kebabs, Congas & Close Encounters
Episode 9
Monday, April 27, 2026 • Duration 31:17
🎙️ Episode 9: Kebabs, Congas & Close Encounters
Buckle up, because this episode is a proper mixed bag—in the best possible way. From tea-fuelled debates and nostalgic nights out, to aliens in Bromyard (yes, really), we’re covering it all.
🫖 Tea, Chat & Garden Gossip
We celebrate National Tea Day the only way we know how—with strong opinions and plenty of cups of the good stuff ☕
Builders’ tea vs posh tea leaves… there’s only one winner (or is there?)
A lovely catch-up in a beautiful garden with chickens, sunshine and great company
Why fruit tea smells amazing but never quite delivers
🕺 Throwback Nights & Dancefloor Moves
We take a trip down memory lane to Hereford’s iconic nightlife:
Sticky carpets, legendary clubs and late-night kebab runs
The unspoken art of dancing like nobody’s watching (even when they definitely are)
And yes… the conga makes an appearance
🌯 Kebabs, Cake & Questionable Choices
Food gets a mention (obviously):
The magical, homing-device powers of a post-night-out kebab
Carrot cake in the garden (a slightly more civilised option)
And a shocking confession… someone’s NEVER had a kebab 😱
🎭 Fancy Dress & Party Chaos
From Vikings to custard pie battles, we dive into party memories:
Why dressing up brings out your inner actor
The genius (and mess) of a custard pie party
And why we might just embrace fancy dress a bit more
We kick things off with what we’ve been up to lately.
Kerry has been strength training with her awesome personal trainer, Jack, while Pauline firmly maintains that her preferred workout is walking… to eat cake. Pauline also recounts her unforgettable encounter with “Deadlift Dave,” who tried to persuade her to stay at the gym even after she’d handed in her notice.
Pauline then whisks us off to Italy 🇮🇹, where modern-day gladiators attempted to charge her for photos in Rome. She also shares a cringe-worthy tale from a previous visit when her purse was stolen—and the Italian police couldn’t stop laughing at her Google Translate statement. Mamma Mia! 😂
🐾🎪 National Pet Day & World Circus Day
It’s a double celebration as we mark National Pet Day and World Circus Day!
Kerry relives a childhood trip to the circus that ended with her face-down in the mud after tripping over a tent rope—ruining her brand-new coat and providing lifelong embarrassment on the bus ride home.
Naturally, we discuss what our dream circus roles would be. Kerry fancies herself as a fortune teller or knife thrower, while Pauline recalls pretending to be a psychic at a police charity event—only to be recognised weeks later in a chip shop as “the best psychic in Herefordshire!” 🔮
We also hear about a psychic policeman from Ludlow and Pauline’s hilarious mix-up between a cannonball and a cannibal. Easy mistake… right?
🎪 Roll Up, Roll Up! Life Under the Big Top
Pauline hits the streets to ask locals what they’d do in the circus.
🤡 Martin #1 would be a clown—because no one would recognise him under the makeup. He also reveals that picking up after his son’s dogs is his favourite pastime.
⏳ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐏𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐀 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐞?

🦋 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐕𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐬 & 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬

Who would you call if you were on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Why are they doing it?

We're on the case...
☕ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐓𝐞𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧

Who knew custard creams could be so controversial?
💚 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬

We explore the fascinating legend behind this centuries-old tradition and discover why one very unhappy saint allegedly made it rain for forty days and forty nights!
Everyone's favourite young seagull is back!

We talk all things Lakefest and our brilliant interview with Lee from Lakefest for an upcoming Story Seat special.
Without giving too much away… it was emotional, inspiring and filmed in a very unexpected location.
Honestly, what a lovely human being.
🛏️ Rug Escapades Pauline vs The Mattress
Possibly one of the greatest stories in podcast history.
Pauline buys a giant rug for her bedroom and attempts to move an impossibly heavy bed entirely on her own. What follows includes:
⚠️ Being trapped under a mattress
⚠️ No phone nearby
⚠️ Exhaustion sandwiches
⚠️ A triumphant rug victory
Against all odds… the rug ended up perfectly square.
🐦 Meet Ralph the Seagull
Yes. We’ve named a seagull.
Pauline tells the incredible story of rescuing baby Ralph after he fell off the roof, nursing him back to health, chasing him up the road with a net, and eventually watching him return years later demanding broccoli quiche at the back door.
He now taps on the roof every morning for breakfast.
Frankly, Ralph may now own the house.
🎤 Eurovision Fever Arrives
Eurovision season is here and emotions are running high.
We chat about:

Probably not.
But we remain emotionally committed.

Expect:
🎸 Fake band documentaries
🎸 Mobbing “fans”
🎸 Ghostly dressing gown appearances
🎸 Accidental family commentary preserved forever
Somewhere between Spinal Tap and complete disaster.
👽 Bromyard Aliens & Pentagon Files
Doug from Bromyard is BACK with more UFO theories… and annoyingly, current events may actually support him this time.
We discuss:
🛸 Pentagon UFO file releases
🛸 Crop circles
🛸 Cashpoint aliens
🛸 Whether Doug should be banned from phoning in forever
The truth is out there. Unfortunately, so is Doug.

🛁 Towel Day - in memory of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams.
🧛 World Dracula Day
🛸 More crop circle nonsense
🎉 A brand new competition
…plus whatever else happens when we leave the house unsupervised.
🦁 Martin #2 dreams of being a lion tamer… although he admits he’s not quick enough on his feet if things go wrong!
Kerry also shares a fun fact about Kwame the contortionist, who famously tangled himself into a knot during the “Preston Park Twist” and needed an osteopath to unravel him. Talk about bending over backwards for your art!
🐕 A Guide Dog with a Taste for Sausage Rolls
Pauline fondly remembers her former police colleague Pervez, whose guide dog insisted on leading him to Greggs every lunchtime for a sausage roll. Apparently, it wasn’t Pervez’s idea… or so he claimed. 🌭
🌱 National Gardening Day
We celebrate National Gardening Day with a lively debate on the best way to grow tomatoes:
Grow bags?
Pots?
Or simply buy them from the supermarket and pretend you grew them?
No judgement here! 🍅
🍽️ The Art of the Polite Review
Christine from Ledbury calls in for advice after dining at a dreadful restaurant run by a lovely family. How do you leave a kind TripAdvisor review without offending them?
Our suggestions include praising:
The lovely carpet,
The absorbent napkins,
And the delightfully dim lighting. 😄
Constructive criticism at its finest!
🍔 Jeff & Ted: The Final Chapter?
We receive an update on Jeff and Ted, who have finally returned home from their edible escapades. Jeff’s wife Sandra has given them a good meal and told them to grow up—potentially the last we hear from the duo!
🛍️ Vintage Vibes at Hereford Buttermarket
Pauline meets Sam from Revibe, a vintage stall in Hereford’s Buttermarket. While her treasures are beloved, it’s her adorable dog that steals the show. If she sold dogs, she’d be a millionaire! 🐾
👽 Suspicious Sightings in Bromyard
Doug from Bromyard calls into the radio station with a chilling tale. Walking home from the pub one evening, he encountered what he believes was an alien with glowing red eyes. Terrified, he fled for his life!
He also recalls a menacing black cat that nearly finished him off—if not for his loyal dog, Rusty. Kerry and Pauline are now inviting Bromyard residents to confirm… have you seen it too? 👀
