5 Powerful Feedback Strategies to Boost Student Learning
Episode 49
mercredi 20 mars 2024 • Duration 12:44
DESCRIPTION:
Struggling to give feedback that makes an impact? Join Tem as she delves into effective feedback strategies to help teachers empower their students. Tem explores actionable tips on providing students with clear and specific feedback to promote understanding, improvement, and a love of learning, as well as saving teachers time!
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
- Feedback should be specific and timely for it to have an input on the learning of our students and lead to improvements in their work.
- Live marking is a great strategy to help save teacher's time. Teaching Assistants and Teachers should circulate the room giving students both written and verbal feedback as this makes the most impact.
- Self assessment and peer assessment prior to the teacher marking their work can help save time and improves student knowledge and understanding of the criteria.
- Use the feedback sandwich technique: start with a positive, followed by constructive criticism, and then end with a positive comment.
- Acknowledge efforts and celebrate small improvements. Students need to experience small successes along the way to help keep them motivated.
- Link feedback given to the lesson objective or success criteria to make it more meaningful to the students. In the long run, this will also improve the quality of their work as a result of a better understanding of the criteria.
BEST MOMENTS:
"Make your team aware of how to give specific feedback"
"Feedback shouldn't be a one-way street"
"Live feedback there and then in the classroom"

Episode 48
mercredi 13 mars 2024 • Duration 46:14
DESCRIPTION:
Tem is joined by Ryan Douglas, the host of the Health Wealth podcast, where they discuss the typical food choices that we make as teachers throughout the day and the importance of these choices. Ryan gives us advice on how to eat so we don't snack and what the best foods are to eat to stop us from snacking throughout the day.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
- There is a lot of false information out there.
- Having proteins and fats for breakfast keeps us fuller for longer so we are less likely to snack.
- Being stressed leads to us choosing foods that will give us a dopamine rush as that is what our brain needs.
- Sugar affects our health and affects us mentally.
- Fruit still contains sugar but it has added nutritional value unlike high sugary snacks like chocolate bars.
- It is better for us to buy real food not processed foods and buy food locally.
