'Spirits with Spirits' The King's Head Pub - Episode 207

Last month we had the honour to bring our 'Spirits with Spirits' series to the infamous King's Head Pub located at 120 King St., Winnipeg, MB. 

Joined by Ashley and Kelly from The Winnipeg Paranormal Group, we had an amazing crowd for about 30 people come out and join us! We discussed the history of the building at 120 King St. now known as King's Head Pub since the late 1980s, however the bulding itself has been around since 1896! There has been one known death in the building, a homeless person by the name of Garry. 

There have been reports of a 'Basement' ghost and a ghost on the 3rd floor.......where we were holding the event! However, nothing appeared to have been recorded or seen/felt that night. However, Jas did hear a suspicious sound on the stage behind her and someone in the audience later said around that same time, they saw the curtain move......curious ghost?

Ramblesode Cemetery Superstitions

Have you heard of it? Do you have RH Negative Blood? It really is a strange topic. To think that among all the different blood types there are 4; A-, B-, AB-, and O- that is so different, the consequences are deadly! If you have this type of blood and try to have a child with someone who has Positive blood, your blood could look at your fetus as foreign and attack it as a threat.

Hamilton House Revisited – 100th Episode GUTG

Amazing how it all comes together! Today’s episode is the 2nd Anniversary of Giving up the Ghost Podcast, as well as our 100th Episode.

The Hamilton House, thought to be the origin of Spiritualism and Psychical research in 1920s Winnipeg, was our inaugural episode. We were so fascinated by the history we knew that if there was any topic to enter the Podcast Ocean with - this would be that one.
Fast forward two years and 100 episodes later - here we are! We decided nothing more appropriate than to cover this subject again since it has been our most downloaded episode to date (around 600). As well, Dr. Hamilton and Hamilton House along with all the family’s research is also the most explored file at the University of Manitoba Archives.

We were honoured to interview local and world renowned Writer, Researcher, Urologist and Fortean Chris Rutkowski for this episode. Chris had researched and wrote about Hamilton House as well as had a personal connection in that he was a friend of Margaret Hamilton Bach.

In addition, we were over-the moon to be able to speak with and interview Janice Hamilton, Dr. T.G. Hamilton’s granddaughter, who spoke to us from her home in Montreal about the research she has done and has written a book on her family’s genealogy .

During our interview with Janice, Jas and Sher stumble onto a topic called ‘Black Market Babies’ in Montreal back in the ‘40s & 50s, as her Husband Harold, who was kind enough to troubleshoot Skype for us, told us of his story, being one of those babies illegally bought.

Christmas Creepy Victorian Ghost Stories

Nothing better than curling up with your loved ones, gathered around the fireplace, the lanterns dimmed low, with nothing but the shadows on the wall from the Christmas tree and its reflecting balls to set the mood……for GHOST STORIES!!!

The Legend of Krampus
So nice....we covered it twice!!!
Due to Covid we needed a little break and thought since this is the week of Krampus - what better way to reminisce then re-airing on of our favorites from last year!

Chris Rutkowski is the preeminent ufologist in Canada, and well recognized as an expert internationally. He began collecting individual accounts of encounters or sightings with UFOs in Canada in 1975. A year later he began writing and publishing his investigations and research and to date has published ten books on UFOs and related phenomena, focusing in the Canadian experience. He has made his voluminous collection of photos, research notes, reports, publications, zines, and other documents available to the public for the first time by donating his records to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections. The UFOs in Canada Archival Fund is to establish an ongoing fund that would in the first instance make sure that the records are quickly made available with appropriate online descriptions, and preserve the records, and then in future to scan selected documents and put them online so that people can study them without having to come to the University of Manitoba.

The Brown House – St. James’ Haunted Museum

Jas and Sher, your Audio Curators, are always excited to find new locations that are haunted and barely known. On this week’s 90th Episode they discuss ‘The Brown House’, originally built and lived in by the Brown family located in the parish of Headingley along the Assiniboine River in 1956.

Now this Historical family home is used for education purposes and proudly sits in St. James as one of the three buildings that hold exhibits and has programs to tell the story of the communities of St. Francis-Xavier, Headingley, St. Charles and St. James.

The Brown House has a kitchen, parlour and dining room on the first floor and four bedrooms on the second floor…..and GHOST! Known to be very active, many have seen things levitate and even at night time sprits roam around and seem to have a party as everything is moved around by morning’s opening time. There is said to be the sounds of a giggling little girl and soldier asking for directions to the non-existent airfield.

How do you differentiate between moody teenage angst and a darker and more brooding persona that has nothing to do with hormones? It’s a fine line but definitely a parent knows.

Laura discusses the events that unraveled as well as the Shadow person that would follow her son in which he acknowledged his very concerning situation. Had it not been for chance encounter with a Light Worker who then got Laura in touch with a Shaman, her son could have potentially spiraled to a place of no recovery.

Creepy Morris Manitoba Mystery

On this 87th episode Jas and Sher, your Audio Curators, talk to Maria who had some very, very scary interactions with a ghost. While a teen growing up in Morris, Manitoba, both herself and her mother witnessed a ghost hand reaching through a sweater at the same time! A little unnerving to say the least! In fact, the way this spirit continued to communicate every night thereafter would be categorized as threatening.

But, her hauntings did not end there. Things continued on for her in later years while married and raising her 2 boys in a different hometown. However this seemed to be a gentler and friendly ghost that played with her son.

Ramblesode – Fairy Circles

After making a discovery from TikTok….again….of course, we present this week’s Ramblesode; Your Audio Curators, Jas and Sher, discuss the topic of Fairy Circles. Apparently it’s only been a thing for like, a thousand years or more.

Science would debate that the appearance of random mushroom circles popping up are due to the decomposition of a feld tree. However, their descriptions to as the twenty different circumstances and soil conditions are more than confusing. Experts can’t seem to nail it down to one or two specific scenarios that leads to a Fairy Circle or Fairy Ring: which are perfectly round in circumference forming a ring of mushrooms that seem to appear overnight and sometimes encircles an offering of sorts that the Fairies claim as their own.

Um.…science…..time to take a back seat and let the folklore Fai and generational stories take over. Tales that span the globe and warn of the consequences on discovering a Fairy Circle almost seem more credible. Do you dare enter the circle?

We want to believe…..can you tell? You decide on the reasoning behind why these ‘Witches Rings’ appear.

On this week’s episode we actually discuss a True Crime Murder as the result of a direct message from a listener.

When someone dies unexpectedly it is always a tragic situation, but when someone is senselessly murdered, it is the living that are left to try and comprehend the evil involved to commit such a heinous act.

Jas and Sher, your audio curators uncovered a disturbing chain of events that happened on a cold November night in 1973 where two Winnipeg brothers were left for dead. However, to this day you can still hear the echo of their screams pierce through the fields as a remembrance to a horrific axe murder that took place decades earlier.

But that doesn’t explain why weird occurrence happen at the other end of Liss Rd in St. Andrews…..there is more happening by the Red River portion as well….Listen in to tonight's episode hear the whole story.

Before this magnificent location was storing records and documents, it was erected as the place to be for entertainment in Winnipeg. Smack Dab in the middle of the windy city, crowds of people would gather here for concerts, Hockey Games, wrestling matches, sporting events and everything in between and this was from 1930s till 1970 which then the Centennial Concert Hall and Winnipeg Arena took over entertainment venues. But it’s quite possible one of the many event patrons have never left as the building seems to house not only documents but spirits from a time long past.

The Ghost Librarian of the Manitoba Legislature

Well….well…well have Jas and Sher got an oldie but a goodie tale for you on this week’s ‘Summer’ Edition podcast. This week we discuss the infamous Manitoba Legislature Building on Broadway Ave in Winnipeg. Also referred to by locals as ‘The Leg’ (pronounced Ledge) or if you grow up in the 80’s it was also nicknamed Purple City.


With all good History there are Hauntings….multiple continuous hauntings to this very day. Also discussed is the book, The Hermetic Code by local Author Frank Albo, who was then consulted to by Dan Brown for his book Symbols. Those sneaky masons also putting in hints and symbols where you least expect them. Very creepy cool stuff what Mr. Albo figured out.

The Shadow man of Norwood Grove

There’s a house in Winnipeg that is so historic….sitting right under our noses and no one had a flippin’ clue on how instrumental it was in the history of not just Winnipeg but The City of St. Boniface!
It was the home, for decades to Roger Marion, The First Mayor of The City of St. Boniface, his wife and their 9….or possibly 15 children (maybe even more). Lots of secrets in this house which was a pivotal residence and still stands today in Norwood; A family home to the living as well as the departed.
Jas and Sher answered the request of Tracey, who had weird and Un-explained occurrences over the years in her Norwood home. From dying small pets, the dark man/shadow man sightings, random things being moved around and a child making strange noises. Oh, did we mention all these things take place at 3 am?

This week’s guest Melynda joins Jas and Sher to discuss her own experience of when she first encountered the Little Ghost Girl of Rapid City; a well-known entity who roams around town, possibly because she may not realize she has departed. Melynda was unpacking boxes when she encountered ‘May’ who happened to be running through the kitchen on Melynda’s first night in her a new home!


This week’s guest also discusses the reknowned Queen’s Hotel that comes with its own baggage set of hauntings.

The Bowler Hat Ghost in St. Boniface


Of all the places….of all the communities you had to haunt St. Boniface – which is a very, very popular hangout for spirits, as we have found out lately. This week the Ladies are holding an audience with Doris and Colleen who listen in on the interview with Tomas B. a former Winnipegger now living in Prince Rupert.


In The Pod Cellar, Tommy describes the Guardian Angel his sister had while they lived in his grandmother’s house in Steinbach, MB, and also his interactions with a former resident in his St. Boniface childhood home. The house is long gone, but does the Bowler Hat Ghost still roam the property?
