GHiT 0525:  Zach Caldwell Returns and We Discuss the Upcoming Vannonball 2024 – Once Wasn’t Enough?

When last we spoke to Zach Caldwell, we were reviewing the inaugural Vannonball Run.  He was a bit weathered and had survived the event.  Naturally after some recovery and an exceptional example of selective memory, Zach has determined an even more extreme version of Vannonball.  This episode is a combination of a psychological test and a cheerleading session and a formal public announcement.  This seems just dumb enough to work and we can’t wait to participate! 

Plus it is for the Lemons of Love charity.

GHiT 0519:  Vicki’s Surprise Weekend at the NJMP Lightning HPDE with NASA Northeast

Another podcast example that the post race weekend hangover is real, but we wanted to cover the big race weekend.  This is part one of 3 or so and this event wraps up our 2023 season.  As frequent listeners know, we had a big surprise in store for Miss Vicki and now we can go into the event in detail. 

As a background, Vicki and Bill had their 25th wedding anniversary in October and postponed the celebration due to life and racing obligations.  In addition, Bill had been planning a celebration for many years to say thank you to Vicki for spending/wasting half of her life with him.  So Jennifer, Debbie, and Audra helped set up a surprise party on Friday to give Vicki her finished race car.  And then Saturday evening, Adam Owens officiated our renewal of vows.  Also, we did a lot of racing in the 8 cars we brought to the track.

We review our busy race weekend and prepping for next weekend’s HPDE at NJMP.

Racing two straight weekends is not the best idea but it is always a ton of fun.  Bill raced in the Slippery Slope BMW E34 5-Series with Max, Audra, and another Bill.  The weather was great, until it wasn’t, but racing in New Hampshire in Late October is dicey at best.  In addition, Jeremy and the boys were racing in the Bad Hombre, El Jeffe race truck, and Alan raced in the MooStang with a new to him engine.  We try to cover everything from a great race weekend.

In part one of our review from GridLife's festival event at Lime Rock, we catch up with Scott and Becky from Robertson Racing.  In addition to racing in his Miata with Becky as Crew Chief and Lead Mechanic, they were also working with two of their coaching clients and they produced amazing results.  The Miata was still being dialed in, as this was the first race of the season after significant work and upgrades that started last season.  It is always great to catch up with them and we can't wait to see them in person at PittRace in October.

GHiT 0489:  Race Recap:  Thompson 2023 with the 24 Hours of Lemons

Our team had two cars that raced at the recent 24 Hours of Lemons endurance race at Thompson.  This includes the 1984 Mustang GT Turbo called MooStang and the 1991 BMW 535 with team Slippery Slope.  It was a tale of two cars and the results show it.  Post race hangover was fully in place by the two of us who didn’t race, lol.  Did the MooStang make up for last year’s debacle?  Did the 535 keep on rolling along?  How was the ice cream shop?  This and more are in this week’s episode review.

In Autocross, it is often correct to minimize distance to improve your time.  On track, it is a bit more complicated due to the longer duration of the turns and the higher speeds and higher variation of speeds.  During this episode, Ben and Bill talk through a few of the aspects of the track that can impact when to minimize distance and when to move your min speed in a turn to improve your overall lap time.  Part 1 of many.
