GHiT 0525:  Zach Caldwell Returns and We Discuss the Upcoming Vannonball 2024 – Once Wasn’t Enough?

or how a $500 race van does 50,000 miles of racing

When last we spoke to Zach Caldwell, we were reviewing the inaugural Vannonball Run.  He was a bit weathered and had survived the event.  Naturally after some recovery and an exceptional example of selective memory, Zach has determined an even more extreme version of Vannonball.  This episode is a combination of a psychological test and a cheerleading session and a formal public announcement.  This seems just dumb enough to work and we can’t wait to participate! 

Plus it is for the Lemons of Love charity.

We take advantage of Audra and her vast experience at autocrossing to discuss where autocross can help your track driving and several of the differences that may need to be modified when on track.  In a future episode, we will talk about translating from track driving to autocross.  Cross training can only help your driving skill.

GHiT 0522:  Gary McCormick – Second Lap (or Few) in our B Spec Fit

Gary McCormick flew in for our surprise Vicki weekend at NJMP Lightning and explored his first HPDE with NASA Northeast in our 2015 B Spec Honda Fit.  We talk about how the event went, what it is like to HPDE in a super slow car, and compare the event with NASA vs Gary’s usual SCCA group.  This episode wraps up our sixth season of the podcast and we can’t think of a better guest to have to end the season.

GHiT 0520:  Brad Lee – First HPDE - Finally

Brad Lee has been with our team for about 5 years but it had never quite worked out to get him on the track.  Luckily, Brad was able to attend the Vicki surprise weekend at NJMP Lightning with us and get out on track.  This is a great example of what its like to get on track for the first time.  Plus a ton of story time.  This may be the first part in a refreshed How To Start Racing 101 series.

GHiT 0519:  Vicki’s Surprise Weekend at the NJMP Lightning HPDE with NASA Northeast

Another podcast example that the post race weekend hangover is real, but we wanted to cover the big race weekend.  This is part one of 3 or so and this event wraps up our 2023 season.  As frequent listeners know, we had a big surprise in store for Miss Vicki and now we can go into the event in detail. 

As a background, Vicki and Bill had their 25th wedding anniversary in October and postponed the celebration due to life and racing obligations.  In addition, Bill had been planning a celebration for many years to say thank you to Vicki for spending/wasting half of her life with him.  So Jennifer, Debbie, and Audra helped set up a surprise party on Friday to give Vicki her finished race car.  And then Saturday evening, Adam Owens officiated our renewal of vows.  Also, we did a lot of racing in the 8 cars we brought to the track.
