Episode #22: Food sensitivities: Causes, prevention, and solutions

lundi 5 février 2018Duration 01:09:51

Download this podcast Dr. Aristo Vojdani is back to explain some fascinating basics about food sensitivities and oral tolerance. For instance, did you know dental cavities and gum disease can increase your risk of food sensitivities and autoimmunity? Or that eating the same food too often can weaken your immunity? You’ll learn about "nature’s vaccine" — secretory IgA (SIgA) — that will make you want to become an SIgA warrior so you can stay healthier, enjoy a more diverse diet, and maintain healthy immunity. Dr. Vojdani explains Cyrex Labs’ Array 14 screen of mucosal immunity (SIgA) and how to make sure your SIgA levels are healthy prior to testing. Dr. Vojdani's bio: Aristo Vojdani, PhD, MSc, CLS, obtained his MSc and PhD in the fields of microbiology and clincal immunology from Bar-Ilan University in Israel with postdoctoral studies in comparative immunology at UCLA and tumor immunology at Charles Drew/UCLA School of Medicine and Science. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept. of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University in California, and an Adjunct Professor at the Lincoln College of Professional, Graduate and Continuing Education at the National University of Health Sciences. His ongoing research focuses on the role of environmental triggers in complex diseases. Dr. Vojdani's research has resulted in the development of more than 300 antibody assays for the detection of autoimmune disorders and other diseases. He holds fifteen US patents for laboratory assessments of immune disorders associated with the brain and gut, has published more than 170 articles in magazines and scientific journals, and has just published the book "Neuroimmunity and the Brain-Gut Connection" with Nova Science Publishers. He is the CEO and Technical Director of Immunosciences Lab in Los Angeles, California, and is also the Chief Scientific Advisor for Cyrex Labs in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Vojdani sits on the editorial board of five scientific journals. Over the years he has received the Herbert J. Rinkel Award, the Linus Pauling, PhD Award, and the F. R. Carrick Research Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Episode #21: Functional neurology for rheumatoid arthritis and gut problems

mercredi 17 janvier 2018Duration 52:54

Download this podcast A patient with painful symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) went to doctor after doctor but her tests kept coming back negative, which is common in the early stages of RA. When she went to see Dr. Geronimo, he saw in her obvious signs of autoimmunity. Although functional medicine protocols helped, it was functional neurology to address cerebellar decline that really turned this patient around — her gut function was restored in less than a week. Dr. Geronimo explains how you can tell if your brain plays a role in your gut problems, and how Zumba, Tai Chi,  and core exercises can serve as profound neurological rehabilitation in some cases. Dr. Rommel Geronimo is a functional medicine and functional neurology practitioner in the San Diego area. http://sdbraincenter.com/

Episode #12: Diseases of captivity, sitting disease, and being a sedentary athlete: How to reboot your brain through movement

jeudi 5 octobre 2017Duration 45:03

Download this podcast

David Gallina is a naturopathic student who studies the connection between movement and neurology. In this fascinating discussion, he explains how sitting all day and loss of flexibility severely impacts brain function, even if you work out regularly. The human brain is advanced as it because it developed to perform complex physical movements, yet few of us do them regularly. You’ll learn how you can radically boost brain health through simple movements throughout the day, even if a chronic autoimmune condition has you feeling run down. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself sitting in a rejuvenating squat by the end of the episode.

Gallina is the founder of Hybrid Movement Practice in Seattle. He will be speaking at the IAFNR 2017 functional neurology conference on the Importance of the General Movement Paradigm and Novelty in Functional Neurology.

With host Elaine Marshall.

Episode #11: Things you can start doing right now to lower your risk of Alzheimer’s later

jeudi 5 octobre 2017Duration 59:01

Download this podcast

Dr. Andrew Campbell, MD gives a thorough overview of the things you can start doing right away to drastically lower your risk of developing Alzheimer’s and dementia later in life. If you’re already noticing some memory loss, then follow these steps to halt the brain degeneration and win back your brain health.

Dr. Andrew Campbell MD has practiced medicine for nearly four decades and has had over 80 peer-reviewed articles published in medical journals and other publications, and has received twelve awards for excellence in healthcare and patient treatment.

He will be speaking at the IAFNR 2017 functional neurology conference on Aging, Diseases, and the Immune System.

Episode #10: How you can detect increased risk of brain development disorders such as autism, ADD, ADHD, in newborns and infants

lundi 25 septembre 2017Duration 52:00

Download this podcast

In this episode, Dr. David Rosenthal explains how we can detect brain development dysfunction as early as in newborns. Once you understand some early neurological development basics, you can watch your baby for signs of milestones that aren’t happening or happening unevely. Likewise, he explains the neurology behind intuition and why parents should trust theirs even if a doctor brushes them off. Catching these signs early can alert you to an increased risk of autism, ADD, ADHD, tics, and so on so you can take action sooner rather than later and help the brain get on track. Whether a baby cries too much or is too lethargic, paying attention to subtleties can help you steer your baby’s brain in the right direction sooner rather than later with some functional neurology help. Dr. Rosenthal is presenting at the 2017 IAFNR functional neurology conference (iafnr.org). You can learn more about Dr. Rosenthal at http://www.davidrosenthaldc.com/.

Episode #9: The role of fight, flight, and freeze responses in early childhood brain development

lundi 25 septembre 2017Duration 52:51

Download this podcast

In this episode, renowned childhood brain development specialist Dr. Robert Melillo talks about how early survival reflexes shape the development of the brain, and how early brain development disorders — which start in the womb — can throw a wrench in healthy brain growth. This leads to incomplete development and the rise of issues we increasingly see today: autism, ADD, ADHD, OCD, Tourette’s, etc. in children. Dr. Melillo is the author of several books about childhood brain development disorders and the many factors that cause autism. Learn more about Dr. Melillo at drrobertmelillo.com. Dr. Melillo is the founder of IAFNR and will be speaking at the 2017 IAFNR functional neurology conference. (iafnr.org)

Download this podcast

Dr. Michael Trayford is a functional neurologist practicing in Asheville, NC. He is also published journal author, national lecturer, and currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Dementia Society of America. In this episode, Dr. Trayford explains how to spot an increased risk of addiction in early childhood, the neurological issues that raise the risk of addiction and make it harder to recover, and how functional neurology can help rehabilitate the neurological issues and thus facilitate addiction recovery. His talk at the IAFNR 2017 functional neurology conference will be The Role of Functional Neurology in Addiction Recovery. (iafnr.org). With training and experience in interventional radiology, Dr. Vojdani explains the many ways brain MRIs can play a part in identifying brain-based problems as well as serve to track protocol success. They are even affordable. Dr. Vojdani will speak on the topic at the 2017 IAFNR functional neurology conference in Las Vegas, NV Nov. 3-5 (iafnr.org).
