On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, I talked to Kira McSpice about her incredible new album, “The Compartmentalization of Decay.” It’s a record that’s really left a mark on me in 2024, and this conversation with Kira made me love it even more.

Talking to R. Hunter about his new missing scenes album, who is this for? - and seeing if we can come up with an answer.12 Apr 202400:33:58

On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, I talk to R. Hunter aka missing scenes about his latest album, “who is this for?” I love the title of this record as it’s a question I think about and ask myself often. We get into that for a while, talk about process, what’s ahead, and a lot more.

Dis Fig - Songs of Our Lives #2113 Feb 202401:22:12

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Felicia Chen aka Dis Fig on the show. There are collaborations that just make sense, and one listen to Dis Fig & The Body’s “Orchards of a Futile Heaven” screams that these two projets are meant to collide. After talking about how that happened, we blast off talking about how early is too early for a memory of Naughty by Nature, the desolation Sufjan Stevens can bring, how Earth is also sexy… maybe, earnestness going too far, Senyawa’s magic, getting hyped with Nero, Portishead’s greatness, and loads more!

Listen to all of Felicia’s picks HERE

Foxy Digitalis Daily - July 3, 2023: Meshell Ndegeocello “The Omnichord Real Book”03 Jul 202300:11:32
Today’s pick may be a little outside the usual zone Foxy Digitalis is associated with, but “The Omnichord Real Book” is an instant classic. Absolutely essential listening, and I hope anyone who follows FD checks it out. Plus, the schedule the next two weeks is a bit wonky, so more on that at the top of the show. Foxy Digitalis Daily - June 30, 2023: Jeffrey Lamoureux "possible parallels"30 Jun 202300:10:50
Jeffrey Lamoureux’s “possible parallels” surprised me. I figured it was worth spending time with since it’s on Zekarias Thompson’s Working Name Studios, but it really resonated. Foxy Digitalis Daily - June 29, 2023: Sharron Kraus "KIN"29 Jun 202300:11:42
I love to hear what the lifers are up to, and this recent one from Sharron Kraus does not disappoint. I don’t know if it’s really a plague record, but it feels like one to me, and I am 100% in for that. The Seltzer Salon #4: Ned Milligan27 Jun 202300:41:11

I've been a great admirer of Ned Milligan's work both up close and from afar. His latest, Considerable, is the perfect opportunity to finally have a conversation about his approach to creating these inviting, organic sound worlds. His use of wind chimes, especially, always grabs me on such a core level. Considerable is an apt title for this latest album as Milligan's work is always considered and restrained, creating just the right amount of resonance and sonic space to live within. Considerable is out now on vinyl, CD, and digital formats via laaps. https://laaps-records.com/album/considerable https://florabellerecords.com/ The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis. Foxy Digitalis Daily - June 26, 2023: Water Damage "2 Songs"26 Jun 202300:09:39
We’re back after an unplanned and unexpeceted week off. Where was I? Well, Tulsa got slammed by city-wide 100 mph winds early Sunday (June 18) morning that knocked out power to half the city. It’s just been a real shitshow here, so even once power was restored to our place, I figured I’d just take the rest of the week off. But the Daily is back with some serious howl from Water Damage. The Seltzer Salon #3: Danny Paul Grody20 Jun 202300:33:59

I don't have enough superlatives for Danny Paul Grody, but he is such a kind and generous person that even a short conversation with him will leave you feeling better about the world. His latest album, Arc of Day, captures that spirit. It plots a sonic pathway through darkness and isolation to the other side, where light still glows. Brad and Danny talk in-depth about the album and its origins, the incredible collaborators who helped bring it to life, and a little Furniture Music for good measure. A long, busy week comes to a close with the pastoral fantasy of M. Sage’s “Paradise Crick.” It’s such a wonderful record, and I hope you have an opportunity to get lost within it. There was a new Seltzer Salon released yesterday - a great chat with Ben Vida about his latest record. I hope you’ll check it out. The Seltzer Salon #2: Ben Vida08 Jun 202300:31:02

As much as Ben Vida’s previous work has caught and held my attention, his new album with Nina Dante and Yarn/Wire, “The Beat My Head Hit,” has hit me like something else entirely. It’s a phenomenal expression of a musical space Vida has been exploring for the last few years that lands in multiple ways. There are visceral reactions that lead to emotional swings from joy to wistfulness with many stops in between. I can’t stop listening to it. Ben and Brad chat about collecting language, the human voice as a synthesizer, how the new album started, and where this piece of music is going in the future. “The Beat My Head Hit” is out now on Shelter Press. https://benvida.bandcamp.com/album/the-beat-my-head-hit https://www.yarnwire.org/ https://www.ninadante.com/ https://www.instagram.com/thesnakesaidtotheriver/ The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis. For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Helado Negro on the show. After talking a little about his process and the story of Lupe Lopez, he takes us on quite the journey (including me reacting to one of his off-the-cuff picks live - ha!). We get into the all-time greatness of Teddy Pendergrass, Piero’s timeless moments, Bonnie Raitt’s calypso side, the utter seduction of Maria Marquez’s “Loveroom,” Caliban bringing it, the understated magic of Luiz Bonfa, being moved to tears by Xenia Rubinos, and so much more!

The Seltzer Salon #1: Joe Posset & Union Pole Tapes25 May 202300:38:52

I am thrilled to share the first episode of The Seltzer Salon, a new series under the Foxy Digitalis banner that focuses on small conversations with a range of musicians, artists, writers, and whoever about various projects and ideas. I have long enjoyed listening to interviews, but I do not have the time to sit uninterrupted for an hour or more and really dig into many of these types of episodes. Granted, it’s easy to break them into multiple sessions, but I like the idea of more focused conversations about one (or two) projects - concise and convenient, hopefully, interesting for all. With that, this conversation with Joe Posset about his new blog, All My Ideas Are Stolen, exploring the original 76 tapes on Union Pole, is the perfect starting point. I can trace the beginning of my interest in ‘outsider’ music in a direct line to the Union Pole label. When Joe mentioned this project to me earlier in the year, I was thrilled and knew we had to talk about it at some point. Well, here we are. All My Ideas Are Stolen: https://allmyideasarestolen.wordpress.com/ Union Pole: https://unionpole.com/ The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis. Thomas Ragsdale’s got some things he’s excited about this year, and it’ll probably make you want to join a band. Plus, Scanner’s new album + new label, The Starless Oracle, old compilations, + more!02 Feb 202400:35:30

On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, Thomas Ragsdale swings by to talk about things he’s excited about right now. We get into a lot of different things, getting a bit vulnerable in the process, but it feels good to simply talk about things you’re excited about and how to go about keeping that feeling going. Plus, a fantastic new Scanner album christens Robin Rimbaud’s new label, Alltagsmusik. A new release on the Jewel Garden and a couple pay-what-you-want (free) old compilations from the Digitalis days on this Bandcamp Friday. Let’s go!

Jeremiah Chiu - Songs of Our Lives #1930 Jan 202401:03:03

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Jeremiah Chiu on the show. He’s been on quite a run of incredible records the last couple years, and on February 2nd, it continues with “The Closest Thing to Silence,” a collaboration between himself, Marta Sofia Honer, and the great Ariel Kalma. After talking about how that came together, we keep channel Ariel’s spirit and keep things in the posi-zone, talking about Stevie Wonder’s all-time greatness, the gravity of Ryuichi Sakamoto, the personal impact of 80s and 90s R&B, Burt Bacharach putting us in a romantic mood, Radiohead recognizing Paul Lansky’s genius, Milton Nascimento’s all-timer, and loads more!
