Episode # 402 Django Unchained with T.A Shelano and Rich from The Middle-aged Bodcast.

mercredi 12 novembre 2025Duration 39:46

T.A Shelano and Rich from The Middle-aged Bodcast return to Flixwatcher to review T.A’s choice Django Unchained. Django Unchained (2012) is the 8th film from writer and director Quentin Tarantino. Two years before the Civil War, Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. Their mission successful, Schultz frees Django, and together they hunt the South's most-wanted criminals. Their travels take them to the infamous plantation of shady Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), where Django's long-lost wife (Kerry Washington) is still a slave. Django Unchained earned Christoph Waltz his second Best Supporting Actor and birthed the Leonardo DiCaprio laughing meme. But it isn’t without controversy over its depiction of slavery and graphic violence. Recommendability scores for Django Unchained were pretty high, but the two hour 45 minute runtime meant lower repeat viewing scores to give an overall rating of 3.27. mercredi 5 novembre 2025Duration 45:13

Kambole Campbell (Empire Magazine, Vulture, Time Out) and Leslie Byron-Pitt (Fatal Attractions podcast) join Flixwatcher to review Kambole’s choice The Boy and the Heron. The Boy and the Heron (2023) is the 12th Studio Ghibli animation written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The English dub version features the voices of Christian Bale as Shoichi Maki, Robert Pattinson as the Gray Heron, Florence Pugh as Kiriko, and Dave Bautista as the Parakeet King. The cast also includes Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, and Mark Hamill in other key roles. After losing his mother during the war, young Mahito moves to his family's estate in the countryside. There, a series of mysterious events lead him to a secluded and ancient tower, home to a mischievous gray heron. When Mahito's new stepmother disappears, he follows the gray heron into the tower, and enters a fantastic world shared by the living and the dead. As he embarks on an epic journey with the heron as his guide, Mahito must uncover the secrets of this world, and the truth about himself. Recommendability scores for The Boy and the Heron were mixed, the sprawling nature of the narrative and two hour run time were working against it to give an overall rating of 3.31. Episode # 393 Elvis with Luke Tomlinson and Ash Farkas

mercredi 1 octobre 2025Duration 31:42

Luke Tomlinson (Impropod Podcast) and Ash Farkas return to Flixwatcher to review Luke’s choice Elvis. Elvis (2022) is an epic Elvis Presley biopic directed by Baz (Moulin Rouge!) Luhrmann. It stars Austin Bulter as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker. Told from the Colonel’s point of view it tells the story of Elvis’ rise to fame and peak celebrity status. Filmed in true Baz vision Elvis is loud, gaudy and chaotic version of Elvis’ early days and cult icon status. Interesting for a biopic it doesn’t feature any original Elvis recordings. Despite not winning the best actor Oscar, Austin Butler gives an impressive performance as Elvis. Scores for Elvis were mixed, recommendability depends on your interest and enthusiasm for Elvis and the divisive Baz Luhrmann aesthetic, clocking in at two hours and 39 minutes it didn’t score high for repeat viewing either. Overall Elvis scores 2.75. Episode # 308 The Hunger Games with Sadia Azmat and Al Horner from Script Apart

mercredi 19 juillet 2023Duration 40:08

Al Horner (Script Apart podcast, Empire Magazine) and Sadia Azmat (stand-up comedian, writer and comedy producer) return to Flixwatcher to review Al’s choice The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games (2012) is based on the YA novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. Directed by Gary (Big) Ross and starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Donald Sutherland as President Coriolanus Snow, Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane and Toby Jones as Claudius Templesmith. In this dystopian future, the post-apocalyptic nation of Panam is divided into 12 districts. As a punishment for a revolt and a reminder of their position in the social hierarchy, each district must submit two tributes who will take part in the annual Hunger Games. Aged between 12 and 18 the tributes must fight to the death until there is one survivor. When Katniss volunteers as tribute to save her younger sister she ends up becoming a symbol of the resistance as she defies the rules of the Games. Recommendability scores for The Hunger Games were very high, only dropping a few points on repeat viewing to score a very respectable 4.13 overall.   [supsystic-tables id=321]   Episode #308 Crew Links Thanks to the Episode #308 Crew of Sadia Azmat @sadia_azmats_ and Al Horner @Al_Horner from @ScripApart You can find their website here https://twitter.com/ScriptApart And at https://twitter.com/EmpireMagazine And at https://twitter.com/Guardian And at https://linktr.ee/sexbombbook Please make sure you give them some love   More about The Hunger Games For more info on The Hunger Games you can visit The Hunger Games IMDB page here or The Hunger Games Rotten Tomatoes  page here. Episode # 307 Once with Mark and Elaine from The Honeymoon Period podcast

mercredi 12 juillet 2023Duration 38:48

Mark and Elaine from The Honeymoon Period podcast join Flixwatcher to review Mark’s choice Once. Once is a 2007 Irish romantic musical drama written and directed by John (Sing Street, Begin Again) Carney. It stars Glen Hansard as ‘guy’ and Markéta Irglová (in her first acting role) as ‘girl’, who ended up as a couple after working together and later performed together as the Swell Season. Guy is busking on the streets in Dublin when he meets girl, a Czech flower seller who is attracted to his music and asks him about his songs. They go for a coffee and he tells her that he is also a vacuum repair man. The next day she returns with her hoover and reveals she is also a musician. They visit a piano store and she plays the piano for him. Despite trying it on with a desperate offer of “hanky panky” their relationship blossoms and they secure a loan to record his songs professionally. Shot in a hand held style, on a budget of $150,000, Once was a surprise huge success and took $23.3 million at the box office and won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song for ‘Falling Slowly’. Recommendabilty for Once was pretty solid, it is impossible to hate on this charming little film that doesn’t go for the Hollywood ending. Remaining scores were very also strong, only slightly lower for repeat viewing, to give an overall rating of 3.96.   [supsystic-tables id=320] Episode #307 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #307 Crew of Mark (@mark_greg) and Elaine (@elainegwrites) from The Honeymoon Period podcast Find their Websites online at https://t.co/CiX1Wv5dyH and at https://twitter.com/guardian and at https://twitter.com/bbcnewcastle Please make sure you give them some love   More about Once For more info on Once, you can visit Once IMDb page here or Once Rotten Tomatoes page here. Episode # 306 The Last Castle with Liam Dempsey and Paul Willson from Spocklight: A Star Trek Podcast

mercredi 5 juillet 2023Duration 47:24

Paul Willson and Liam Dempsey from Spocklight: A Star Trek Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Paul’s choice The Last Castle. The Last Castle is a 2001 military action film directed by Rod Lurie. It stars Robert Redford as Lieutenant General Eugene Irwin who is sentenced to 10 years at a maximum security military prison for violating orders that resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers. In charge of the prison is James Gandolfini’s Colonel Ed Winter, an admirer of Irwin. Who despite having never seen combat keeps a coveted collection of military artifacts and inflicts punishing behaviour on the prisoners. After a prisoner is killed by a rubber bullet the prisoners start regarding Irwin as their leader and a battle of control between Winter and Irwin intensifies. Mark Ruffalo and Delroy Linda co star. Although released in 2001 The Last Castle would feel at home in the 1990s action genre, all the effects are practical, not digital and how many 00s films feature Robert Redford shirtless carrying rocks in the midday heat? The Last Castle is an easy watch, it might be corny and a bit predictable but the star power of Redford and its no nonsense approach makes it quite endearing. The scores for recommendability reflect this and fall into firmly into the three point fives to four marks. Slightly lower scores for repeat viewing due to its two hour plus runtime give an overall rating of 3.79.   [supsystic-tables id=319] Episode #306 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #306 Crew of David Llong and Neil Gregory from We Needed Roads podcast Find their Websites online at https://twitter.com/BBCSussex and at https://twitter.com/spocklightpod and at https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/spocklight-a-star-trek-podcast/id1150816497?mt=2 Please make sure you give them some love   More about The Last Castle For more info on The Last Castle, you can visit The Last Castle IMDb page here or The Last Castle Rotten Tomatoes page here. Episode # 305 Werewolves Within with David Llong and Neil Gregory from We Needed Roads podcast

mercredi 28 juin 2023Duration 36:43

Neil Gregory and David Llong from We Needed Roads podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Neil’s choice Werewolves Within. Werewolves Within is a 2021 horror comedy mystery film based on a computer game of the same name. Forest ranger Finn (Sam Richardson) Wheeler is assigned to a small town called Beaverfield where there is division in the community over a planned pipeline. The other residents include postal officer Cecily (Milana Vayntrub) Moore, influencer couple Devon and Joaquim (Harvey Guillén), freaky outdoor guy Emerson Flint and environmentalist Dr. Jane Ellis. A snowstorm confines them to the local lodge where it becomes quickly apparent there is a werewolf on the run and it is targeting the residents. Falling firmly into more of the comedy genre than horror and silly rather than thrilling, Werewolves Within is a harmless and fairly entertaining 97 minutes. Recommendability scores were pretty decent, a short runtime gives engagement scores a boost to give an overall rating of 3.82.   [supsystic-tables id=318] Episode #305 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #305 Crew of David Llong and Neil Gregory from We Needed Roads podcast Find their Websites online at https://twitter.com/NeededRoads and at https://linktr.ee/weneededroads Please make sure you give them some love   More about Werewolves Within For more info on Werewolves Within, you can visit Werewolves Within IMDb page here or Werewolves Within Rotten Tomatoes page here. Episode # 304 Shirley with Rob and Ellie from KVIKMYNDAPOD

Episode 304

mercredi 21 juin 2023Duration 38:18

Rob and Ellie from KVIKMYNDAPOD join Flixwatcher to review Rob’s choice Crank. Crank is a 2006 action film from directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and starring Jason Statham as hitman Chev Chelios. While asleep Chelios is injected by Chinese synthetic drug by small-time criminal Ricky Verona, which inhibits the flow of adrenaline, slowing the heart and will eventually kill Chelios. Chelios learns of this via a DVD recording and calls his Mafia surgeon Doc Miles who advises him to keep his adrenaline up by engaging in risky behaviour. Cue 88 minutes of the Stath driving recklessly, fighting with the police, taking drugs - including epinephrine, and having sex in public with Eve (Amy Smart) his girlfriend. Crank is a wild, insanely silly, occasionally offensive and innovative action film. Filmed on digital it allowed the directors to adopt a Gonzo approach to filming which adds to its overall feeling of craziness. Recommendability for Crank were pretty good, repeat viewing and engagement ratings were boosted by the sweet 88 minute runtime to give an overall rating of 3.38.   [supsystic-tables id=317] Episode #304 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #304 Crew of Rob and Ellie from KVIKMYNDAPOD Find their Websites online at https://twitter.com/historyextra and at KVIKMYNDAPOD - Listen on Spotify - Linktree Please make sure you give them some love   More about Shirley For more info on Shirley, you can visit Shirley IMDb page here or Shirley Rotten Tomatoes page here. Episode # 302 I'm Thinking Of Ending Things with Dr. Nicola Millard and John Loftus

mercredi 7 juin 2023Duration 44:16

Dr. Nicola Millard and John Loftus (BT Young Scientist STEM Inspirations podcast, 8Radio Ireland) join Flixwatcher to review Nicola’s choice I'm Thinking of Ending Things. i'm thinking of ending things is the 2020 Charlie Kaufman adaptation of the novel of the same name by Iain Reid. It stars Jessie Buckley as the Young Woman, who could be called Lucy, Louisa, Lucia, and Ames and Jessie Plemmons as her boyfriend Jake. On a wintery car journey to meet Jake’s parents, Mother (Toni Collette) and Father (David Thewlis), the Young Woman is contemplating ending their relationship. After their arrival at Jake’s family home things become increasingly surreal and reality, memory and imagination all merge into one. It is fair to say the reaction for i’m thinking of ending things was mixed for Flixwatcher and guests, despite being huge fans of other Kaufman films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich. Scores for recommendability were quite low and only improved slightly for small screen and to give an overall rating of 2.75.   [supsystic-tables id=315]   Episode #302 Crew Links Thanks to the Episode #302 Crew of Dr. Nicola Millard (@DocNicola) and (@loftysnds) John Loftus You can find their website here https://twitter.com/8RadioIreland And at https://twitter.com/GoldenPlec And at https://twitter.com/BTYSTE And at https://twitter.com/chokecomedy Please make sure you give them some love   More about I'm Thinking Of Ending Things For more info on I'm Thinking Of Ending Things you can visit I'm Thinking Of Ending Things IMDB page here or I'm Thinking Of Ending Things Rotten Tomatoes  page here.
