Navigating The Holidays When Trying To Conceive | Episode 11801 Nov 202300:21:34

Can you believe it's almost the silly season already?

Now, over here at The Dietologist, we get it. The holidays can stir up a whirlwind of emotions, especially when those well-meaning friends and family members just can't resist asking the age-old question: "When are you having a baby?" Tis also the season when our DMs start blowing up with messages like,  "Help! Another year's gone by, and my baby plans are still MIA!"

The holidays are awesome, no doubt about it. There's more freedom, time to relax, parties galore, mouthwatering dishes, and, of course, drinks!

But hold onto your Santa hats because here's the holiday plot twist: If your goal is to ring in the new year with fertile intentions, it's time for you and your partner to be on top of your diet and lifestyle game.

So, while we're all about embracing the holiday spirit, let's not forget to be a bit mindful about what's going into our bellies. Tune in to this episode for some nifty tips on how to juggle the holiday festivities while keeping your baby-making plans in mind.

How Can You Protect Your Child's Future Fertility with Lucy Lines | Episode 10930 Aug 202300:34:11

TW: This episode mentions pregnancy loss. If this is not something you feel you should listen to today please skip this episode and listen to one of our previous episodes on Fertility Friendly Food! If you need support, please seek the advice of your GP or contact The Pink Elephant Support Network.

Ever wondered if your fertility concerns may be inherited by your child? A question I personally get semi-regularly in our virtual clinic at The Dietologist.

We're thrilled to welcome back Lucy Lines, the Embryologist and Fertility Educator behind Two Lines Fertility, for her second appearance on the show. Get ready for more eye-opening insights from Lucy as she shares her expertise once again.

We explore the contrasts between women's fertility in the 1980s and the present day, attributable to the escalating presence of endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

We discuss common products that we and our children come into contact with, often oblivious to their potential impacts on fertility.

No matter your fertility status, this podcast is meant for everyone. After all, the WHO strongly advocates for enhancing pre-conception health, given its far-reaching impact that extends across generations.

Vegan & Vegetarian Diet for Fertility - Helpful or Harmful? | Episode 10823 Aug 202300:21:59

Ditching meat and animal products is nothing all that new. But in the past few decades, there is an ever-increasing number of people choosing to go vegan, vegetarian or plant-based whether it be for religion, animal welfare, environmental & sustainability or health-related reasons.

A common question we are asked here at The Dietologist is: A vegan or vegetarian diet helpful or harmful when it comes to fertility health?

In this episode, I break down the pros and cons of vegan & vegetarian diets and how they can impact fertility.

We'll chat about all the ways these diets champion the one group of foods most of us could absolutely be eating more of, plants! But, clinically, we also see a lot of downsides too, nutrient gaps, gut symptoms and IBS and more.

So, if you're curious about how going vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based might affect your journey to parenthood, this is the episode for you!

Recurrent Implantation Failure & Diet with Kaylee Slater APD | Episode 10021 Jun 202300:25:53

Recurrent Implantation Failure (RIF) is a frustrating and challenging condition that affects some couples trying to conceive through IVF. The definition of RIF is 3 or more IVF attempts with good-quality embryos, this can be due to a number of factors, which we will discuss in today's episode.

We are joined by our team dietitian at The Dietologist,  Kaylee Slater APD to discuss the latest studies on the vaginal microbiome and its association with unexplained RIF, as well as endometritis and the use of an anti-inflammatory diet to assist in implantation.

While there is no specific diet or supplementation that guarantees success in overcoming RIF, the science is certainly emerging on how this area could potentially improve fertility outcomes.

Recurrent miscarriage is characterised as 2-3 consecutive miscarriages and unfortunately affects 5% of couples wanting to conceive😢

At The Dietologist we do sadly see clients who feel like there is something they could have done to avoid pregnancy loss and this is certainly not the case.  No ONE  nutritional change can prevent pregnancy loss and many are due to chromosomal abnormalities or circumstances beyond our control.

Today we are joined by our team dietitian at The Dietologist Candice Crellin APD who has a particular interest in recurrent miscarriage nutrition.  We talk about the possible causes of pregnancy loss, and then look at the controllable factors in what can feel like a very uncontrollable time-  nutrition and lifestyle!  Candice shares her considerations and top nutrition tips!

If this is not something you feel you should listen to today please skip this episode and listen to one of our previous episodes on Fertility Friendly Food! Did you know that in 2020, more than half of the first-time mums were in their 30s? This is a far cry from 15% before 1981, 23% in 1991, an even higher than just over 10 years ago in 2011, where 43% of first time mums were in their 30s. Factors like education, careers, finances, relationships, and housing markets (looking at you, Sydney!) contribute to this trend.

But, here's the kicker – our biology couldn't care less about all that.

As fertility rates gradually decline with age, it's crucial to understand fertility in your 30s. So, in today's episode, I dive into the top tips to prepare your body for pregnancy in your 30s. We're diving into stats, facts, modifiable factors, and of course,  some nutrition foundations to fuel your exciting baby-making journey.
