| Hair & Beauty Industry Episode | 22 Apr 2025 | 00:35:06 | |
Today, we are focusing on the rural hair and beauty industry. Jennifer and I have been in this sector for many years, Jennifer with her training school and events supplying therapists to festivals, glamping sites and holiday homes and Carrie with her rural hair and beauty salon. We are delighted to be joined today by Ruth Rowberry, a colour analyst and makeup artist based in rural Herefordshire. She is a mum of two and married to a farmer. She has converted a shepherd's hut into a makeup studio. Not many people expect to come to a shepherds hut in the middle of nowhere to have a service done, but it really is a little haven overlooked only by the cows, chickens and an odd pig! We also have with us Becky Seal who has a hair and beauty salon in rural Herefordshire based at a boutique shopping village. She hosts a wide range of therapists and specialises in cruelty-free products, and in addition, she works as a hair and make up artist at high-end fashion shows such as London Fashion Week and with brides. | Angharad Binder - Forging the Way for Females in Farming | 13 May 2025 | 00:45:30
Today we have Angharad Binder. She grew up on our family farm in Suffolk which is a mixed farm with a farm shop and farm trail.Ā Ā She decided not to go into this directly and trained as a children's nurse. In September 2024, she left this for her role within the Farming Community Network. Ā This fits in well around her two young children and she is FCN & Macmillan Programme officer for the South East. It's a project she is passionate about, as her Dad, a farmer, is living with cancer, and they are all learning to adjust to this and planning ahead in terms of succession. Getting the message out to catch symptoms early is such an important one. Outside of work, she is also Show Director for this yearās Hadleigh Show, an agricultural show on Saturday 17th May, attended by around 15,000 visitors. It's a voluntary role, in which you are chosen, so it is a real privilege, yet a huge amount of work! She is only the 2nd female Show Director in its 186-year history. https://www.hadleighshow.co.uk/
