Have you lost contact with your child? What about your parent, or grandparent, sibling, or any other family member? You might be experiencing estrangement, alienation, or erasure. All of these terms speak to the trauma and dysfunction that so many families face.

A family is a complex living and breathing system. Each member plays a role in the family dynamic. When families carry generational trauma and/or experience new trauma, challenges, or dysfunction, this can result in a break in the family system.

These reaction strategies are habitual and very often interwoven into every aspect of how our family interacts.

Hi! I´m Lawrence Joss and I’ve learned that I need to cultivate a spiritual, emotional, and physical relationship with myself in order to have healthy relationships with others and everything in my life. It is my mission to help you create and nurture that relationship with yourself first and provide you with tools that might help you heal and strengthen family relationships.

This podcast is an opportunity to explore our healing journey together through the complexities of our families.

What NOT TO DO If You Are an Alienated Parent, Part 2 - Episode 9

lundi 25 septembre 2023Duration 33:13

“We try to be the best version of ourselves we can be, but it takes time, and it takes work.” ~ Lawrence Joss

Many people often make the mistake of thinking it is the job of other people to fill the voids and mend the broken pieces within us.

However, WE are the only ones who can do the inner work to better ourselves. While we need the right tools, and the guidance of the right community, it all comes down to the work we are willing to do within ourselves. It’s a process that takes time, but the results will be transformational.

This episode is the second part of ‘What NOT to Do if You Are an Alienated Parent’.

Renèe and Georgette delve into the patterns they repeated in order to get the attention of their kids, and how this tied into the thought process that, as parents, they are only loved and needed when they get a response. They share how things changed throughout their healing process,  and how these changes resulted in better connections and relationships with their loved ones.

Please come along and learn how to start the journey of healing yourself to heal your life.

In This Episode:

  • Renèe and Georgette share how they go through the cycle of reaching out to their children to calm and regulate their nervous system.
  • How finding a community of people that understand where you are coming from can positively impact your healing process.
  • The tools we can immediately access to give us relief such as music, sports, and nature.
  • Renèe shares the conversations she had with her sons after things changed for her.
  • The impact of people noticing the changes and growth throughout, and after, our healing.
  • Finally feeling satisfaction and contentment with ourselves, and our relationships.

What NOT To Do If You Are an Alienated Parent Part 1 - Episode 8

lundi 18 septembre 2023Duration 34:16

"You don't put up boundaries. You have boundaries. You put up walls." ~ Lawrence Joss

Host Lawrence Joss has invited a panel of parents who have 'been there before' to share the benefits of their hindsight.   Today's episode unpacks some of the common mistakes parents make when trying to reconnect with their loved ones.

The beauty of this episode is that if you are dealing with family estrangement or alienation, just by listening in, you give yourself a shot at not making some of the same mistakes.

There is good advice for parenting in general, too – from not putting too much pressure on your kids in terms of them communicating with you, to not asking one child about how another child is doing (i.e., placing your focus on the child you are actually with). There's also wonderful insight into the rooms of PA-A, and the tools you can learn to deal with family estrangement.

Please come along and learn how to start the journey of healing yourself to heal your life.

In This Episode:

  • Renée shares on her alienation of over 25 years (with ‘first contact’ a few weeks ago).
  • Georgette shares the alienation from her 27-year-old child.
  • Understanding the various terms used to describe parental alienation.
  • Focusing on the child that you are with (not asking about those not there).
  • Putting too much pressure on your kids (and not allowing space for them to meet you halfway).
  • The spiritual experience of feeling safe in the rooms of PA-A.
  • Learning how to have boundaries.
  • The distinction between putting up boundaries versus walls.
