Episode 210 - The Science of the Omar García Harfuch Ambush and Lessons Learned
Episode 210
mardi 23 août 2022 • Duration 15:01
For nearly half a century, ISDA’s founder, Tony Scotti, has been leading the way in understanding the “how” and “why” of vehicle ambushes. Since the mid-’70s, Tony has been conducting forensic analysis of vehicle attacks and distributing his findings to the Ep and Secure Transportation community.
So, in June of 2020, the Omar Garcia Harfuch (OGH) vehicle ambush was not the first time Tony has gone through the painstaking process of accurately analyzing a lethal ambush targeting a high-profile, at-risk individual. However, the Omar García Harfuch “OGH” ambush is one of the first vehicle attacks that was videoed as it was happening.
Adding the Vehicle Dynamics Institute team to the testing process created unprecedented results in the data collected and the lessons learned.

New Tire Ratings Reveal Top Tires
It’s hard to overstate the importance of tires in keeping passengers safe and delivering performance. That’s why so many consumers in colder climates spend the time and expense to swap winter/snow tires twice a year to ensure that their 2-ton vehicles have the best grip possible.
These do-it-all tires offer unique tread designs and enhanced rubber compounds that increase traction across a broad range of temperatures. They’re different from typical all-season tires mainly because they provide better traction in the snow. For this reason, they have the same mountain/snowflake symbol on the sidewall as winter/snow tires.
In our latest testing, CR evaluated five all-weather models: the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady, Michelin CrossClimate +, Nokian WRG4, Toyo Celsius, and Vredestein Quatrac 5. From this fresh category, the Michelin CrossClimate + shined as a top performer thanks to its uncompromising grip.

===================
And speaking of the importance of tires in keeping passengers safe
Joe Autera, CEO of Tony Scotti’s Vehicle Dynamics Institute explains about the Tire Contact Patch
All vehicles are supported by a cushion of air contained in four flexible rubber tires. If you could place a car on a glass floor and look at it from below, you would see four patches of rubber, most folks are surprised at the size of these four patches, depending on the vehicle – each patch is a little smaller than a hand. These are the only points of contact between the vehicle and the road. Each of these four small patches of rubber is known as the “contact patch”. It is these four patches that create the traction which makes the vehicle – go – stop and turn. It is these four patches that send the feedback back to the driver, and it is these four patches the driver has to manage. Consider them to be a source of information needed to control the vehicle.

Google clearly stated in the Google Play Store developer rules updated on July 27 this year that it is forbidden to upload any cryptocurrency mining application to Google Play. However, the latest survey results still indicate that some developers have found the way to upload to the app store page using hiding the true purpose in apps.
In these years, due to the significant increase in cryptocurrency prices, malicious encryption mining activities have shown a rising trend on a global scale. The mobile device users have also been attacked seriously, especially the users of mainstream mobile operating systems.

State Department Records Drop in Global Terror in 2017 in Annual Report
The State Department reported a drop in terrorist attacks around the world in 2017 in an annual report released earlier this month, a decline that was largely driven by the rout of Islamic State in Iraq.
The report said Afghanistan and Iraq, countries that remain in turmoil after nearly two decades of U.S. invasion and occupation, remained at the top of the list for attacks and deaths linked to terrorism.
The State Department recorded the highest numbers of terrorism-linked deaths world-wide in Afghanistan, where a growing Taliban-led insurgency is fighting the U.S.-backed government. The total number of deaths rose to 4,672 there, a slight increase from the previous year.

How automakers are tackling connected vehicle vulnerability management
A car was once simply a way to go from A to B and whether or not you purchased a cheap runaround or a luxury model, they all simply had one purpose: travel.
However, our vehicles are now becoming smarter. Rear-view cameras, GPS-based map assistants, mobile apps, self-driving features and always-on connectivity are becoming common, such as through Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto.
Vehicle connectivity provides a new channel for the collection of data, a valuable commodity for automakers and technology vendors. However, this conduit requires Internet access -- and this, in turn, has created a channel in which attacks can be performed.

Trump's new limo cost $1.5M and comes with a fridge full of his blood type
When President Donald Trump rolls up to the United Nations to speak to the Security Council today he’ll have an unprecedented level of security of his own.
On Sunday, the Secret Service flew into New York City with the newest in a long series of specially designed presidential limousines. Like its predecessor, which came into service during Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration, the new limo goes by the nickname, The Beast. And considering it weighs in at somewhere near 20,000 pounds, that’s clearly appropriate.
Intended to look like a stretched version of a Cadillac XT6 sedan, it’s one of a dozen that make up a contract initially estimated at $15.8 million and designed to help the Commander-in-Chief survive virtually every possible form of attack from a terrorist or assassin. And, even if injured, the Beast has an extensive range of medical supplies on board, including a refrigerator full of the president’s own blood type.

Audi might bring back historic Horch name as Maybach rival
It looks like Mercedes-Benz isn't the only German manufacturer to reach far back into history for a nameplate. Audi is reportedly bringing back Horch for its high-end vehicles.
Horch, an early 20th-century luxury carmaker, was one of the four brands that originally formed Auto Union in 1932, together with Audi, DKW and Wanderer. The union of four carmakers chose a four-ring logo to stand for their joint venture, and the famous logo survives to this day on Audis. But Horch was always a higher-class product than Audis, and as an equal of Mercedes-Maybach the name should serve it well.

If there is only one business book you read, this is it. The book outlines the steps necessary to create a lasting relationship with clients.
In today’s fast-paced networked economy, professionals must work harder than ever to maintain and improve their business skills and knowledge. But technical mastery of one’s discipline is not enough, assert world-renowned professional advisors David H. Maister, Charles H. Green, and Robert M. Galford. The key to professional success, they argue, is the ability to earn the trust and confidence of clients. To demonstrate the paramount importance of trust, the authors use anecdotes, experiences, and examples — successes and mistakes, their own and others’ — to great effect. The result is an immensely readable book that will be welcomed by the inexperienced advisor and the most seasoned expert alike.

Cadillac to expand V-Series but discontinue CTS-V and ATS-V
Cadillac said Tuesday it will expand its V-Series performance sub-brand with the arrival of the CT6-V sedan in 2019 (formerly known as the CT6 V-Sport), with plans to add high-performance variants across its portfolio. The flipside to that expansion is the sunsetting of its two existing V-Series performance cars, the ATS-V (both coupe and convertible) and CTS-V sedan. Two new unspecified sedans will slot below the CT6 in Cadillac's lineup, a spokesman said.
The CT6-V will arrive next spring. It will feature Cadillac's new "Blackwing" V8, a twin-turbo engine that displaces 4.2 liters and produces an estimated 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, sending it through GM's new 10-speed automatic transmission to drive all four wheels.

Is your website active? Is your website just a brochure on the web? When was the last time you put up new content? Updated an image? Shared a new testimonial from a client? Perhaps your website is poorly designed by relying on a friend to save a couple of bucks to design your website. When was the last time you put information on your website that is useful for your clients and visitors?
Does that describe your website?
As I have discussed in previous blog posts your website is the hub – the center of your business. You have a platform on the web so that potential clients and current customers can find you. With your website, you can control your brand – who you are, what you do, and what qualifies you to do it. Everything comes out of your controlled website and goes to the spokes – which are the social media networks.
