Music and motherhood, and the constant juggle, with Lisa McHugh14 Jan 202500:46:41

Joining me for this week's episode is Lisa McHugh, an award-winning singer-songwriter and one of the brightest stars in Irish country music. Beyond her music, she’s also an entrepreneur, a proud mam of two, and a voice of positivity and empowerment for women. Her two children, Milo who is two and Hallie who is just five months, are the centre of her world, but her parenting path has thrown up some real challenges for Lisa. After Hallie was born, Lisa spent ten days in hospital with her brand new daughter in the NICU, where she couldn't see Milo and couldn't cuddle her newborn as she was hooked up to a CPAP machine. Hallie's health had another challenge just recently too, and another stint in hospital was required. But through it all, Lisa remains positive, while also being honest about how hard is has been for her and her family. With her own parents in Glasgow, where Lisa was born, she says that having a break or some downtime isn't something she can remember having in recent memory. All of this, and a full-on career as a musician means that Lisa is my new inspiration! I hope you enjoy listening this week, and I'll be back with more next week.

Letting your 'old self' go after becoming a parent, with Anna Geary11 Dec 202400:58:33
My guest this week is the incredible Anna Geary, broadcaster, author and former All Ireland medal-winning camogie player. Anna is a national treasure, a wellness advocate and an inspiration to to others, and she's also a mum of one – her little boy Ronan is 16 months old and as Anna says, changed her life for the better. This episode was the definition of sitting with a cup of tea with your mam friend and just having the chats. We talked about the pressure to 'perform' for want of a better term, when it comes to parenting, we talk about comparison online and how detrimental it can be, while also being a valuable resource, and how those few minutes a day you can take for yourself are critical when it comes to being a better parent. Anna and I have a lot in common, we discovered, when it comes to our love of lists, our love of structure and our sanity hingeing on whether our child is sleeping well – and we have both found, to our dismay, that children don't come with a rulebook, and the certainly don't give two hoots about your best laid plans. It was so great to hear someone as successful and lovely as Anna say that actually, we're all just winging it. Enjoy this episode, and I'll be back soon with more.

Losing a child, and the grief process five years on with Eileen Loughlin27 Aug 202400:52:55

Before I start this week's guest intro, I just want to flag that this episode is a very emotional one and might not be a comfortable listen for anyone in the early stages of grief, as it deals with the loss of a child.

My amazing and brave guest for this episode is Eileen Loughlin. Eileen is a mother of four gorgeous children, from ages 20 all the way to just two years old. Five and a half years ago, Eileen and her family's life was turned upside down when a tragic accident at their home led to the death of their youngest child at the time Annabel, who was just 3 and a half when she passed away. Eileen talks to me today about Annabel's short but happy life, her grieving process, the support that has seen her through and her hopes for her three living children as they move through their lives. She also tells me that there are plans in motion for a way to remember Annabel and build a legacy through which she can live on in memory. A gut-wrenching listen for me as the mother of a child the same age as Annabel, but for anyone experiencing loss, this could be a really helpful and hopeful episode. I'll be back next week with more.

You Can Do It - Suzie O'Neill AYU31 Jul 202100:51:44

How many of you asked yourself if your work was right for you after you had a baby?

In this last episode of season 5 our host, Sinead O'Moore is joined by Suzie O’Neill because she asked herself that question and the answer was no.

What she was doing didnt make sense anymore and she needed control over her hours and passion to make time away from children worthwhile.

And now AYU which means very feminine beautiful, her luxurious but affordable irish make up brand is nearly 10 years old, its selling internationally and through Suzie’s it is a growing team with a culture that celebrates women and supports parents.

We talk about how the fear of staying stuck was greater than the fear of starting her business.

How there were days she felt like it could all come crumbling down.

How much her partner has evolved his own work/home balance.

And how ultimately, if you need to make a career change, just go for it!

Believe in yourself. You can do it.

In this week’s episode our host Sinead is joined by Naomi Clarke, or The Style Fairy as you might know her better to talk about becoming a mother to her 3rd baby girl Kaia.

Naomi has been open about her type1 diabetes and how this impacts her pregnancies in the past with all her girls arriving early.

And how her 2nd baby Luna May was in NICU for 2 weeks where she was supported by the incredible teams that care for our tiny heroes.

But despite these 2 high risks pregnancies Naomi could just feel that there was one more baby out there that she just had to bring home to make her family complete. Her baby Kaia.

Raising Brave: Hair loss and Online Hate - Claire Balding 17 Jul 202101:04:28

Whether it’s in the classroom or the football pitch, we tell our children to be kind.

Not to bully.

We also tell them to do what we do.

To see us as their role models.

And yet. As we’ve seen after football games, or in workplaces, or… online anonymously in groups and gossip sites, adults, women, mothers are sharing hate.

In this episode Sinead talks to Claire Balding best known for sharing her experience of hair loss and creating Trua a clinic supporting hair regrowth, to talk about her experience of online hate, boundaries being crossed and strangers making her feel afraid.

How when she checks their profile they are often mothers themselves and how it was in fact this weight of keeping up with motherhood, the not being able to admit to needing a break, or asking for help or showing the world that it was even a little bit hard which contributed to her alopecia and hair loss in the first place. I understand this fear of being judged or shamed or cancelled or thought of as less.

But I know we are raising brave.

So we need to do better because hashtag bekind is not enough.

If not for each other, but because our kids are watching our every step.

Baby Born 2021 - Orla McConnon10 Jul 202101:16:27

At the beginning of this season Sinead spoke to Orla McConnon, who at the time was just a couple of weeks away from the birth of her first baby - it was an episode all about anticipation, excitement & expectation for what was around the corner.

Orla is back to take us through the reality of the labour, the birth and the first six weeks of motherhood.

We talk about stitches, boobs, pumps and pain, the unexpected moments and unexpected feelings.

We talk about the joy but also the sadness in realising that nothing will ever be the same again.

And we talk about the type of things that every mum should feel safe to talk about… that you can love your baby and the magic and the joy and still find it hard.

Healing from Birth Trauma - Dominique McMullan03 Jul 202101:08:12

In this episode, Editorial Director of Image.ie Dominique McMullan joins Sinead to talk openly about the birth of her first baby Kai.

Her beloved bump was about to be born but her baby’s position led to complications, pain, an instrumental birth, alarms going off and rooms flooded with people.

It was traumatic.  *Trigger Warning*

It impacted her wellbeing.

It impacted her mental health.

It is a lived experience.

But Dominique like many, suppressed and tried to behave as though she was a new mum who had it all under control.

Until a pandemic, covid, a miscarriage and the chance to see her sister for the first time in a long time and it all came to the surface.

Now due her second baby in only a few weeks, Dominique explains how this experience of trauma affected her, how she found help and how she is healing herself and her courage in preparation for the arrival of baby no2 later this summer.

Maternity Care Restrictions - Women Ascend Linda Kelly26 Jun 202100:50:38

Meet Linda, the woman behind Women Ascend and the #bettermaternitycare campaign which has been fighting for the maternity care restrictions in Ireland to be lifted - (once it was safe to do so.)

Linda has been pushing for greater rights and equality for decades but when she became a mother she really saw how women can be silenced, disempowered and held back in so many ways through work, through the inequality of the juggle and in how decisions can be made about our maternity care - without us.

This episode was recorded before the announcement this week by the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly that all maternity restrictions were to be lifted in every hospital nationwide.

A lot of questions remain as to how and why this announcement has taken so long.

But one thing we know, the power to ascend when women use their voices together.

Fatherhood is Pure Mental - Keith Walsh19 Jun 202100:56:37

This weekend we celebrate the men in our life, affectionately known as "Dad".

And our host Sinéad O'Moore is joined by our first dad on everymum the podcast, Keith Walsh.

Keith is a broadcaster, writer, podcaster, Dad of two and mental health advocate as he shares the very many benefits he has experienced as a man and father since starting therapy.

In this episode Keith shares his own arrival into fatherhood and how it took a while to figure out his new role.

How therapy thought him to show vulnerability and pass on essential life skills to his kids about what to do if you don't feel ok.

And about his own upbringing and experiences of domestic violence as a child and how as Dad's, things we push down can often come back up to the surface once our children come in to our lives.

We talk a lot about how mothers need care and support to allow them be at their best for this demanding role - but its so true also for the dads we love and lean on.

And so we hope this is the first of many conversations with Father's.

If you enjoyed it or found this episode supportive then please rate, leave a review or share by tagging everymum on instagram.

Thanks Keith for being our NO1 Dad.

To get in touch with Keith you can follow him on Insta and twitter

Listen to The Keith Walsh Podcast and don't miss his play "Keith Walsh is Pure Mental" touring later this year.

Having Hyperemesis, Gestational Diabetes & Pre-Eclampsia - Aisling Keenan12 Jun 202101:00:12

How it feels when pregnancy makes you ill.

In this episode our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by journalist, beauty editor, creator of Private Education podcast and brand new mum Aisling Keenan because after the initial joy of conceiving, hyperemesis kicked in, followed by gestational diabetes and then right at the end, pre-eclampsia for good measure.

Her experience took her so far away from loving the process, from loving her bump.

It denied her the joy of joining in with the excitement, the moments of glow. Of loving pregnancy.

And here she explains how it wasn't just the nausea, vomiting or high blood pressure - it was the grief for the pregnancy she had hoped for, the guilt for not feeling the things pregnant women are supposed to feel, the vulnerability for the first time being so ill. The absolute isolation of growing a baby while so sick within her 4 walls.

And then the relief…. When it was over.

It’s ok to hate the symptoms of pregnancy.

Our bodies go through so much - so if you are not ok, take all the help you can, speak to your Gp or hospital team and be cared for.

Don’t suffer and don't be hard on yourself.

Can play therapy work for your child? With Debbie Cullinane20 Aug 202400:53:22

This week, I spoke to child and adolescent psychotherapist and play therapy expert, Debbie Cullinane. Debbie helps children struggling at home with anything from anxiety, behavioural issues, anger, grief, and lots more. She talked me through what exactly play therapy is, who might benefit from it, the types of play that are involved, and how after a matter of weeks she can see changes in children that parents never expected. She told me how occasionally, it's more of an education for parents about what's developmentally appropriate for kids than it is actually about the therapy itself. I'll be honest – I wasn't sure what exactly play therapy was and what it entailed before I did some research for this episode, so hearing it directly from Debbie was an education for me, as I hope it will be for some of you. Enjoy this episode, and I'll be back next week with more.

Spotlight, Love & Covid at 36 Weeks Pregnant - Vanessa Creaven 05 Jun 202100:50:38

In this episode host Sinéad O'Moore talks to Dr. Vanessa Creaven who pre pandemic was living a fast paced international, business building life with the success of Spotlight, the oral care brand she started with her sister Lisa.

Motherhood was always on the agenda but didn’t seem possible right now. Until the pandemic grounded her like all of us.

But that wasn't the last of the twists and turns of pregnancy.

High blood pressure impacted her health and then came a covid positive test result at 36 weeks pregnant. With only weeks to go until the birth of her first baby, Vanessa felt isolated, vulnerable and at the time grateful to be unaware of the risks covid during pregnancy can have on your unborn baby.

What could have been an incredibly stressful event thought Vanessa so much about motherhood and how her body needed her to be kind to it. How her mind needed to stay in touch with her business. And how her baby would be the saving Grace of an incredible year.

We talk birth, business and the transformation we make as women.

We are back for season 5 of everymum the podcast, supported by WaterWipes, the no1 wipe against nappy rash*.

To kick off this season we have a very special episode with Orla McConnon @theorlacle who recorded with our host Sinead O’Moore just weeks before Orla gave birth and became a mother for the first time.

We talk about her hopes, fears, excitement and nerves.

We talk about how it’s impossible to know what to expect.

We talk about her birth plans, self care plans and new life plans.

And how incredible it is to think that in just a few short weeks, her baby will be here and her world will be forever changed.

To make this extra special.

This is only one part of the story as baby Indy arrived into the world one week ago and we will be catching up with Orla later on in this season to hear if her expectations were anything like the reality.

How to switch off and to switch on.

Working flexibly, the juggle & level of responsibility.

Without my Mam: Grief when gone too soon - Nikki Whelan 10 Apr 202100:51:15

This is an episode about a daughter, who loves her mother.

3 years ago, Nikki Whelan and her family lost their mum Tina Fitzpatrick to luekemia.

Tina was a young woman, still in her 50’s, and was lost all too soon.

And after a listener asked everymum to cover the topic of mothering without your mother everymum asked Nikki a mum of 3, and owner of Little Bow Pip & Backstreet Dance Studio Dublin to be our guest and share her experience of losing her mam, the grief, the strength and the impact it’s had on Nikki as a mother herself.

Nikki was a mum of 2 when Tina passed away in 2018 but has since had baby Sonny.

She explains the incredible special relationship Tina had with Nikki’s two children and how different the experience of a new baby is without her, how special yet poignant Sonny’s birth was and how while on a family wedding in Portugal, Nikki needed her mam like never before.

We will never stop loving our children and our mothers will never stop loving us.

Even if they are gone too soon.

Matrescence - Becoming a Mother, Layla Nua Nua03 Apr 202100:55:45

MATRESCENCE

Becoming a mother is not just about the birth of a baby. It is also about the rebirth of you. Your Matrescence.

A radical identity shift that is so powerful that it can also knock us off balance if we don't understand what’s happening within us.

From experiencing her own transformation after 3 births, fertility challenges, an ectopic pregnancy, early onset of labour and months of bed rest to get to due date, Layla began to process it all.

Here with host Sinead O'Moore Layla shares the impact of her first 2 births in Germany with incredible postpartum support followed by a third here in Ireland with little to no support led her to study what happens to us in postpartum and how we’ve forgotten to nurture and support women after birth through genuine rest, healing, talking, nourishing and restoring.

And nuanua was born, where Layla can now be that support for women.

Layla now provides therapies and guiding supports to help women prepare for postpartum, to understand whats ahead, to nurture them through this transition with the ambition to feel happy again in their own skin.

Find out more about nuanua here

Milk Allergy, Silent Reflux & an Emergency Birth - Nessa Hurley27 Mar 202101:13:08

This is an epic conversation with heavily pregnant drama, a race to A+E, an emergency birth and a journey to diagnosing silent reflux and cows milk protein allergy. This is Nessa Hurley and baby Florence’s story - full of resilience and love from start to finish.

The first half of this episode talks about Florence’s birth in September and could easily be turned into a movie,

The second is a much needed honest account of Florence’s digestive issues and the lengths parents will go to find a solution.

Here host Sinead O'Moore and Nessa talk about Cows Milk Protein Allergy, Wind and Silent Reflux.

How resilient parents are.

How all that matters is the health of our babies.

And how yet again, we need to always trust our gut.

Down Syndrome, See the Ability - Melissah Mullins 20 Mar 202100:40:17

Every single one of our children is different, they each have different talents, different growth spurts, different hair colour.. And they thrive when we focus and celebrate their different abilities instead of seeing the dis-abilities.

To mark World Downs Syndrome Day I’m joined in this very special episode by Melissah Mullins, The Mind of a Mammy - a mum of 3 girls, Evie, Daisy and Ruby to talk about how she is raising them to be strong, capable and confident.

At 25, Melissah became a mum for the first time to Evie, who just happened to have an extra chromosome.

What was a shock at the time and something that sounded bad - in fact is what makes Evie incredibly special with boundless love - she spreads joy everywhere she goes.

And now, Melissah is doing incredible work with her page The Mind of a Mammy to help us all see the ability and change what we think about Down Syndrome and to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland - DONATE LINK

Missing Home - Laura, The Glam Shamrock 13 Mar 202100:35:12

Whether it’s a different country, county or simply outside your 5km, we are all missing home.

In this episode we catch up with Irish mum Laura, The Glam Shamrock to talk about what it's been like living in the UK this year and missing Ireland.

Dreaming of landing home in Dublin Airport with her son Flynn, Laura shares what thousands of Irish mums who live abroad feel like right now. We talk about Flynn’s c-section birth and her recovery, how she has spent her first year of motherhood away from the people she loves, how pandemic parenting has shifted her priorities, the positives and negatives of a lockdown maternity leave and how she felt returning to work.

But above all, ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, how she feels about the next time she can be back on Irish soil.

Ahead of St Patricks Day this week, we hope this episode supports everymum missing Ireland, missing home, right now.

Birth, Business and Building a Life you Love - Kim O’Sullivan06 Mar 202100:48:15

In advance of International Women's Day our host Sinead O'Moore talks to Kim O'Sullivan, mum of three and owner of the award winning brow mecca The Dublin MakeUp Academy

As a single mum in her 20’s Kim O’Sullivan was the last at creche to pick up her baby and yet not earning nearly enough.

Kim had a dream, she had a talent and now after the birth of Calum, she had a purpose.

And so she did what many are afraid to do - she left her job and embarked on a journey to becoming the business owner of the award winning The Dublin Make Up Academy, and she fell in love and has welcomed two more babies into this world - Alex and only a few weeks ago, her baby girl Indie was born.

We talk about how different an experience these births were, how her family are what give her the drive to pursue her business dreams and how through really believing in yourself, you can create the life you love.

"This is life or death" – Eimear Hallahan on her two week old son's critical illness, and the miracles that surrounded him13 Aug 202400:52:12

My guest this week is mother of two, Eimear Hallahan. If you don't know Eimear's story from social media already, it's worth noting that this episode deals with a critically ill baby and might be a tough listen for some. Eimear's youngest son, James, was just two weeks old when she brought him to hospital knowing something wasn't right with him. She trusted her instinct, and once he arrived to Cork University Hospital, the doctors and nurses there sprang into action. He had sepsis, and his body was so full of infection that no antibiotic was seemingly working to treat it. Eimear knew straight away it was critical, and was told her son's chances of survival, at one point, were as low as just 5%. Her strength, positivity, and resilience, along with the support of her partner Jack, meant that through it all, she believed that James would survive. It's an incredible and powerful story of just pure hope, and it brought me to tears, which doesn't often happen! Like I said, this episode is a tough listen at times – I'll be back to you next week with more.

Our Autistic World - Amanda, The Autistic Educator 27 Feb 202100:52:52

Meet Amanda McGuinness, an incredible women and mother to 4 children - daughter Hayley and three autistic boys Conor, Jack and Max.

The arrival of Conor, Amanda's first son has taken her on an an exceptional 11 year journey from struggling to reach a diagnosis for her little baby to herself being diagnosed as autistic as an adult and now has become one of the leading autistic advocates in Ireland supporting thousands of families through littlepuddins.ie and the autistic educator.

Here with our host Sinead O'Moore she talks about those early signs, the judgements of others, how incredibly important finding a support system was for her and how her boys have transformed her life as she now understands and loves who she is.

*Trigger Warning

This journey is transformative and full of positivity and pride, but it also came with terribly low mental health days as Amanda describes the suicidal thoughts she experienced at the height of a period of depression which may effect listeners.

We want to thank Amanda for her honesty in discussing this with us as talking more openly really is the solution. If you need to talk about the issues raised in this episode please reach out to:

Do It For You - The Beaut Truth, Sinead Kavanagh20 Feb 202100:44:35

Out of something bad, must come something good, and sometimes all we need to do is to just go for it.

This week, host Sinead O'Moore talks to Sinead Kavanagh, mum of two and creator of The Beautiful Truth about her positive mental attitude, her family priorities and how after being diagnosed with cervical and then thyroid cancer she found herself motivated to do something for her.

Setting up her blog while recovering gave her a purpose each day and she built a community of like minded people to connect with and it's now given her more financial security and freedom to spend more time with her children.

And for so many of us right now, that’s what we need.

This past year has wildly shifted our priorities and what we want to get out of life.

So whether it’s a new home, a new job, getting your health checked, another baby or a new passion - start today, do it for you.

To kick off season 4 our host Sinead O'Moore have a story with a very happy ending as broadcaster and mum of 3 Suzanne Kane talks to us about Sadie, her 2020 Rainbow baby.

In December 2019 Suzanne heard those words she never expected to hear “there is no heartbeat”.

Bruised with sadness she did what many of us do and put on a brave face, suppressed all that emotion, pretended it didnt happen and didn’t dare dream for another chance. But in the midst of all that went wrong in 2020, something went very very right and as Suzanne explains, Sadie, the measure of her dreams was born.

Here, in Suzanne's very warm honest and witty way we talk about how she felt through her grief, and her joy, her pandemic pregnancy & birth and the love upon meeting her gorgeous girl at the end of her rainbow.

Sarah’s stunning House by the White Thorns is her passion project, featured in RTE's Home of the Year and has grown a huge following on her instagram for its style and comfort - but when Sarah lost her sister Kate, the grief and deep sadness helped Sarah realise that her home is built on her own wellbeing.

Owning Maternal Anxiety - Caroline Foran 21 Nov 202000:53:20

This week on everymum the podcast Sinead O'Moore is joined by Caroline Foran, the number one bestselling author of Owning It and the Confidence Kit, our bull shit free guides to dealing with anxiety and fear. Fighting Cancer, Loving Life - Alannah Sheehan14 Nov 202001:00:23

We get one magical life - it's our job to live it, and live it well.

This week our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by Alannah Sheehan a mum of three who earlier this year was diagnosed with terminal cancer but somehow has learned a new level of appreciation and happiness as she lives her life worth fighting for.

This most devastating news has taught Alannah incredible life lessons and here she shares them with us.

This week last year, Alannah was on top of the world, her third child and first baby girl Phoebe was born. By March, she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme a rare incurable cancer with only a 50% chance of surviving past 2 years.

I can’t find the words to sing enough praise for Alannah Sheehan.

I can’t explain why every single person must listen to her talk.

I can’t ever thank her enough for her words and perspective which have changed how I will forever appreciate and prioritise my health.

Giving birth is scary - its also incredibly empowering and often, full of love.

This week our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by Ailbhe Garrihy to talk about her pandemic pregnancy, induction, birth and lockdown life as a new mum during this crazy year.

Although without her husband Ruaidhrí for the beginning of her induction, Ailbhe never felt alone thanks to the incredible midwives at the Rotunda Hospital - she was able to get into her zone, control the controllable's and while in the moment felt hugely empowered knowing that she was the only women who could birth her baby.

At everymum we understand why there is a lot of anxiety and loneliness for expectant and new parents right now.

From missing out on the pregnancy you imagined, partner restrictions and learning how to do this without seeing friends and family

But we are a tribe of incredible women – here to support each other.

Fitness, Connection & Empowered Mamas - Emma Dowling31 Oct 202000:43:40

Women are the glue of society.

If we are happy and cared for so are our children, our families, are friends, our society.

But when we forget about what we need, we crack and so do all those around us.

Fitness and connections are ways that we care for our bodies and our minds but after babies arrive its really tough to carve our this time, and to do it safely. Add COVID to that and it can feel impossible,

This week our host Sinead O'Moore talks to Emma Dowling, creator of Empowered Mama about how she is committed to creating space for women and taken her mum and baby fitness business online to make sure that women are not abandoned right now and can receive the information, the training and the connections they need to be empowered and cared for.

Stop, drop and read: The power of books for children from birth onwards, with Dr Christina McDonnell06 Aug 202400:48:28
My guest this week is Dr Christina McDonnell, who is a practicing GP, a Garda on-call doctor and also the owner of Genius Juniors, the online bookshop for children of all ages. I was so excited to chat with Christina because honestly, nothing shaped me more throughout childhood than the books I read, and I know just how powerful reading can be for a child's development. Christina was a wealth of knowledge about what reading can do for a child, how much screen time we should give our kids, the 'whatever works' approach and making time for one on one moments with your children if possible. I came perilously close to totally nerding out about the books I loved as a child – any parent who wants to enrich their child's life will love this episode, there's no better gift than the love of reading, to my mind anyway. Enjoy!

Stronger: A year with Triplets - Ali Dee03 Oct 202000:49:47

everymum the podcast is back and to kick off season 3 supported by WaterWipes and to celebrate we are giving away a year’s supply of WaterWipes - enter here.

We are so excited to be re-joined by one of our most popular guests from Season 1, Ali Dee.

In Season 1 episode 10  “You’re having Triplets” Ali had just given birth to her 3 boys and shared their incredible birth story, her pregnancy and how nervous she was as her three babies were still being cared for by the team in the NICU.

One year on and we thought it was time to catch up and talk about what her first year raising triplets has been like - while growing stronger as a woman.

She tells us how she has made a commitment to herself to be at her best physically, how she’s had moments where she felt like she just couldn’t face the groundhog day, how she has an army of support and is never afraid to be honest when she is hitting the wall.

In the past year her triplets have gone from tiny premature babies to fun, adventurous and individual boys but they are not the only ones who have grown stronger as Ali too has transformed and as she says, “would never go back to the person she was before kids”.

Plus, stick around until the end as she shares a hilarious story where baby wipes and a mother’s love were truly tested to their limits.

39, Single & Ready for Motherhood - Laura Cunningham 01 Aug 202000:41:05

In this final episode of everymum the podcast season 2 supported by WaterWipes, our host Sinead O’Moore talks to Confetti Magazine Editor and author Laura Cunningham about her experience of becoming a mum at 39 to baby Ziggy and as a single woman choosing to lovingly co-parent her baby boy.

We talk about the sequence of events we assume will happen for us in our 30’s, Laura’s pandemic pregnancy, induction and ultimate emergency c-section, having her best friend as her birth partner, the incredible love and coming out of lockdown as a mother figuring it all out, one baby step at a time.

In 2020, women are more empowered, supported and now choosing how and when they become mothers.

Motherhood shouldn’t have to be dependent on finding the right partner, or being at a specific age because life doesn’t always work out that way. Careers, opportunities, independence or ending a relationship shouldn’t have to compete with our fertility – because there is never a perfect time and all we have is now.

Newborn Days - Julie B Yoga25 Jul 202000:57:17

Nothing can prepare you for the moment you meet your baby, because when your baby is born, a mother is too.

In this episode our host Sinead O'Moore talk to Julie Millen from juliebyoga about the birth of her first baby just 6 weeks ago. Julie is right in the midst of the 4th trimester and the transformation from who she was to who she now is.

We talk about her journey to birth in the midst of this pandemic, about the love the anxiety and the unknown and about how despite never having a moment to herself some parts can feel super lonely.

Newborn days are intense, intense love, intense exhaustion, an intense transformation so take it slow, eat, stay hydrated and most of all lets stop expecting so much of ourselves – because although its incredible, its also really hard, and that’s ok. everymum the podcast was created for one reason - to get honest about parenthood. The joys, the surprises, the fears, the moments that form us and the ones we don’t hear people talk enough about – like in this episode about those first newborn days.

Born at 27 weeks - Katie Keogh18 Jul 202000:58:31

Born at 27 weeks weighing just 390 grams, Charlotte Keogh is Ireland's smallest surviving premature baby and one strong girl. Here our host Sinead O'Moore talks to her incredible mum Katie Keogh about their resilience, strength, courage and fighting spirit.

Katies journey began in 2017 when at her 20 week scan with her first baby Vincent, she learned that he was experiencing restricted growth and he wasn’t measuring as expected. It became clear very quickly that Vincent wouldn’t survive and at 27 weeks Katie delivered her little boy sleeping in to this world.

After needing some much needed time out to care for her own mental health, Katie was ready to try again and with much more knowledge and early intervention this time round the team at The National, Maternity Hospital in Dublin were able to keep this baby safe until the decision was made, again at 27 weeks that they had to deliver Charlotte to save her life.

Charlotte is a survivor, just like her parents who sat by her side for weeks on end and credit the incredible heroes of the National Maternity Hospital for having their healthy little girl thriving today.

Confidence, life changes & closer to home - Sofie Skehan11 Jul 202000:56:05

The idea of a life in L.A. sounds glamorous and exciting and although it definitely has its benefits, as life changes with new babies and new priorities, sometimes we just need to be closer to home.

In this episode of everymum the podcast season 2, sponsored by WaterWipes, we welcome Swedish mum of two Sofie Larsson Skehan back to Ireland, we hear all about why she and her husband TV Host and Cook, Donal Skehan decided that now was the right time to leave L.A., their race to pack up their life and get across the world before the pandemic closed our skies and how as life changes she refocused on what’s important to her to confidently raise her two boys.

We talk about how there is no picture perfect parenting, how brand new people can just appear into your life and become your go-to best friends at 3am, how she learned to adapt to parenting solo when Donal would travel for work and how although routine is needed, sometimes learning to let go and be more open and relaxed allows more fun and adventure in.

And we couldn’t talk to Sofie without of course talk about weaning and food and how she is introducing her boys to love delicious healthy taste experiences – while letting them explore and create one hell of a mess.

The lovely Louise Cooney joins me this week for a chat about all things motherhood. From talking to Louise, it's so clear to see that motherhood suits her – she has a refreshingly positive take on being a new mam and honestly, if I was pregnant with my first child again and heard how beautifully she speaks about her experience, I would be genuinely looking forward to the experience. We talk about her relationship with her partner Mark changing after Jude came into the world, how she's got a newfound respect for mothers everywhere, and how she accepted that her work was going to have to take a back seat while she focused her energy on her son. Anyone about to experience parenthood for the first time, this is the perfect episode to listen to. I hope you enjoy!

PND, Anxiety & Finding Balance with 3 under 3 - The Health Balance, Lisa Murrin 20 Jun 202000:46:52

In this episode of everymum the podcast, mum of 3 under 3 Lisa Murrin aka @the_health_balance shares how finding her health balance has energised her both physically and mentally.

Lisa welcomed twin boys into the world in 2017 and knew from day one how important it was to her wellbeing to prioritise her own health balance so that she could give all she had to raising her two little boys.

But, like so many of us, post natal depression caught up with Lisa.

Here we talk about the signs and symptoms, how she found her way out, deciding to have another baby while still battling PND, the impact of hormonal shifts, breastfeeding, routine and how controlling her day as much as she can is a strength she leans upon.

The link between our emotional and our physical health is far stronger than food and exercise alone.

And following therapy for her anxiety Lisa confronted the real root of her fears, the tragic loss of her baby brother to cot death while she was just 2 years old. Every moment in our lives forms who we are today and here Lisa so kindly shares this experience with us so that we can all begin to talk openly about the root of our own emotional health challenges.

The last few months have taken their toll on all of us, but learning to surrender to the unknown has given Lisa a new freedom to enjoy her boys. As the co-founder of Eathos and Director of Operations at With Taste, her life has more pressures than ever and anxiety will always be a part of who she is, but through balance it can be used to propel her drive and success instead of holding her back.

In this episode of everymum the podcast season 2, sponsored by WaterWipes, we have a much needed honest conversation about Raising our children without Racism with Santis O’Garro @thecaribbeandub

Born in Montserrat, Santis moved to Ireland when she was a young child in the 90’s with her family. and realised that this country saw her skin colour as something different, and for some, it was an invitation for racist abuse.

Now in her 30’s and raising 2 children as a single parent in Dublin, she is a role model of strength, courage, compassion and empowerment as she speaks openly about the value of raising our kids in a world without racism, about how she took control over her life and her happiness, about how she addressed her mental health challenges and her financial security by becoming Debt-Free.

Santis’s honest experience is essential listening. Ending discrimination starts in our homes, and in the intentions, actions and beliefs of parents. Our children are watching and so at everymum we are committed to doing our best to listen, to educate ourselves, to share more diverse experiences of motherhood and to raise without racism.
