Jolie is co-founder and director of Hummingly which supports people and organisations to do well through times of challenge, uncertainty and change.  Jolie has a Masters in Cognitive Psychology and is a leading mental health expert in disaster and disruption. She will tell you, “I didn’t come looking for disaster, it came looking for me.” In 2010, disaster came knocking on her door, or you could say gave it a good rattle. Jolie is a survivor of the Christchurch earthquake and has lived disaster recovery with her family first hand. She developed services and training to help her fellow citizens for the Red Cross, local government and academia.  Jolie has studied how the mind works after disaster, how we make decisions and are our reactions and behaviours are impacted by stress. Jolie advises on recovery from the community level through to recovery leadership. Her areas of interest include workforce resilience and wellbeing, psychosocial recovery, leadership and storytelling.

In this episode, we learn from Dr. Michael Brown, CEO/ President, The O.W.O.W. Foundation - UARD Bachelor of Emergency Management.  He has taught graduate-level emergency management and homeland security at Capella and Park Universities. He served in the United States Air Force as intelligence and nuclear weapons officer. His national presentations are on diversified topics, such as unmanned aircraft vehicles, the social vulnerability of African American males at historically Black colleges and universities, and the need for emergency managers to prepare for radiological dispersal devices and improvised nuclear weapons. He possesses an Associate of Applied Science degree in intelligence and imagery analysis, a B.S. in criminal justice administration, a master’s in emergency management, and a Ph.D. in public safety with a specialization in emergency management. He is certified in critical infrastructure protection from FEMA’s Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services (TEEX) program. He is the co-author of the book “Transforming Disaster Response: Federalism and Leadership.”

During his prior career as a U.S. military intelligence officer, his responsibilities included protective intelligence operations; counter-WMD and counterterrorism recommendations; and war and contingency planning. He has led security risk assessments for the U.S. government and for private industry. He has training in threat assessment (violence risk) with various structured professional judgment tools. He has presented twice (on concert and special event security, and on red teaming the security risks to the 2020 Olympics) at the Global Security Exchange, the 20,000-attendee flagship conference for the international security industry. He obtained a Master of Arts degree in global risk from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, a Master of Arts degree in military operational art and science from the Air Command & Staff College at the U.S. Air Force’s Air University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Virginia Tech.

Dana is at the forefront of technological transformation including pioneering civil AIS satellite and leadership of maritime surveillance systems that increased ship-tracking capacity by 1,200%. He is the Founder and President of non-profit advocating national policy and technology improvements to support critical applications and infrastructure. Dana has led the creation of national and international anti-piracy standards, and National Plan to Achieve Maritime Domain Awareness, also he has turned around the world's largest public safety and security boat organization. In this episode we learn from Paula D. Gordon, Ph.D.  Paul is an educator, writer, and consultant, based in Washington, D.C. She has had responsibilities in the federal government for coordinating interagency and intergovernmental efforts and directing or taking part in projects in various fields, including drug abuse prevention and emergency management and homeland security. These assignments have included the National Institute for Mental Health, the National Science Foundation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
