Our episode about Ukraine, with Matteo Grassi from Commerce4Good17 Mar 202200:35:32

This bonus episode is our response to what’s happening in Ukraine.

It’s VERY low-fi – no jingles, no ads, and edited by Chloe!!! Because I wanted to get it out fast (this is hitting the airwaves a mere 2 hours after we recorded it), because we’re putting it out on multiple podcasts AND because it just feels totally wrong to put ads in an episode like this.

So what’s this episode about?

Earlier this week Matteo reached out to see if I’d be up for sharing what he and his team are doing to help in Ukraine – in his words “to help the professional network to fight this war”.

So we’re going to talk about how those eCommerce skills are being leveraged to help

And we’re also going to share how you can help Matteo and his team, AND I’ll share a couple of other clever ways to help that I’ve come across recently.

Yes, we are doing an episode on a war.

BUT if you’re a regular listener you’ll know my way of coping with big scary things is to get practical – so this is not going to be a ‘guilt-trip you into donating’ infomercial – more a celebration of some of the amazing people and things that are happening in response to the awfulness.

My aim is for this to be an inspiring and hopeful episode, not one that will make you sad. None of us needs more sadness.

In fact - I felt more positive after recording this than I did before!

My guest Matteo Grassi is ex-ShopifyPlus, the CEO and Co-Founder of Popup, a no-code eCommerce platform, AND co-founder and advisor to Viceroy Group a “humble and happy umbrella company of DTC brands” (great description from their LinkedIn profile!).

Between the two companies, they have team members from all over the world, including… Ukraine. So Matteo and the team have been quick to work out how they can help their own team members, AND leverage their skill sets to help the Ukrainian people cope with the day to day challenges of this war.

Here are the links to how you can help:

- Support Matteo’s work via Commerce4good at chloelink.com/commerce4good

- Get your Ukrainian designed Tshirt (and add a helpful tip!) at www.artists4good.store

- Hire Ukrainian talent at https://remoteukraine.org/

- Find real ways to help Ukraine from wherever you are in the world - chloelink.com/ukrainehelp

- What to do as a business guide – chloelink.com/ukrainebusiness

- And one last one… Simon Wharton is running 100k this month for the Disasters Emergency Committee so you could just sponsor him on his just giving page – chloelink.com/simon

Clothes Swapping success and how it can work for brands too with Nuw's Aisling Byrne07 Mar 202200:39:12

Aisling Byrne is the founder and CEO at Nuw, a fashion exchange app for preloved highstreet, vintage, and designer fashion labels. Founded in 2018, the app went live in 2020 already has a 4.5 star rating and in 2021 they facilitated 20,000 item exchanges!

As you know we’re now on a mission to help you embrace the path to net zero, make your business and your products more sustainable AND help educate consumers to make better buying decisions.

One of the worst industries – one that contributes more to the climate emergency than the flying and shipping industries combined is…. FASHION.

So it was BRILLIANT to see lots of sustainability focused brands in this year’s Drapers 30 under 30 – for our international listeners Drapers magazine is the beating heart of the UK fashion industry.

So we’re going to be showcasing a handful of these brilliant brands over the next few months, because I believe the ways they’re approaching creating a successful business that also does a LOT of good for the planet is the sort of inspiring stories we all need to hear!

Want an easy way to work out how sustainable your products are?28 Feb 202200:35:45

The word “sustainable” gets used LOADS at the moment, we use it a lot on this podcast – BUT what does it actually mean? What does it take to really be sustainable?

Today’s guest unveiled software as CES in January that rapidly and cost-effectively evaluates the environmental impact of consumer products at global scale. So I figured he’d be a good person to discuss what “sustainable” really means for all of us.

And what the benefits of shouting about your sustainability credentials really are.

Austin Simms is the co-founder & COO at Dayrize, a business which exists to help business and consumers bring consumption within planetary boundaries, and whose software is already being used by over 500 businesses – including Foot Locker. Before co-founding Dayrize Austin has held senior marketing positions at multiple big brand consumer businesses like Nike, Philips and Brooks Running.

Please do listen to the end where you’ll find out just how easy and low-cost it can be to have the sustainability score of all your products researched, and provided back to you BOTH as a format you can use across your website and marketing AND with an indepth report to help you become even MORE sustainable.
