Conversation with Jackie DeAngelis About Breast Cancer
Season 10 · Episode 5
mercredi 21 août 2024 • Duration 01:06:15
Our special guest in the SiriusXM studio in New York City is Jackie DeAngelis with the Fox Business Network.
Jackie is the co-host of the Big Money Show which airs Monday through Friday at 1 PM EST on the FOX Business Network. Jackie has been a guest on our program before and has shared her health journey with breast cancer.
Her breast cancer was first identified at the time of her first mammogram which was done when she was 40. Much to her astonishment, the mammogram was abnormal, consistent with breast cancer, and she outlines her diagnosis and surgical course over the past few years.
The big take-home message is to get screened appropriately, understand your family and personal risk factors for breast cancer, and strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle that will reduce your risk of not only breast cancer, but other chronic disease. You can keep in touch with Jackie DeAngelis on by going to X (formerly Twitter) @JackieDeAngelis.

Dads that Cook
Season 10 · Episode 4
samedi 22 juin 2024 • Duration 27:16
In this episode, we introduce you to Michael Varieur. He is a father of three young children and takes cooking for his family quite seriously. Mike is a tinkerer in the kitchen, experimenting with new techniques always trying to figure out a new and better way to prepare food.
While he admits that he is not perfect in the meals he prepares, meaning that some of them are not the most nutritious, he is Willing to experiment and strive to make a better meal from scratch.
I highlight my Mike because from my vantage point in the clinic, listening to patients with chronic disease all day long, the vast majority of them do not feel very comfortable cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. There is a certain level of dependency on processed foods, drive through, and lackluster meals made at home. There isn't much excitement these days in the kitchen or around the kitchen table.
This situation needs to change if we are going to rescue the health and wellness of our children and combat the chronic disease that millions upon millions of Americans face.

I Have a Problem with UnTuckit Shirts
Season 1 · Episode 12
jeudi 22 août 2019 • Duration 21:13
Obesity is the #1 public health concern we face in America. With 75% of adults overweight or obese, this is no small problem. This damaging obesity is the belly fat around the mid-section, which triggers inflammation and tissue damage throughout the body, including the heart and liver.
The untucked shirt movement, which doesn't even look that good from a fashion standpoint, is a cover-up for the expanding girths we are facing. Instead of realizing your clothes are getting tight (due to obesity), and plan to cut down what you're eating and exercise more, the only change is to get clothes that are designed to cover the problem-your gut.
We cannot simply hide the expanding waistline with a cleverly tailored shirt. Resist the untucked movement. Push away from the table, exercise more, and visit your healthcare team. It's that important.

It is always a pleasure to have Anahad O'Connor from the NY Times on the radio and podcast joining me. Anahad is one of the rising start at the NY Times, and has written some of the best medical and health related articles recently.
Over the past several weeks, he has written an article titled: Supplements and Diets for Heart Health Show Limited Proof of Benefit-
Some supplements may actually be harmful for cardiovascular health.
The second article we discussed was: Cutting 300 Calories a Day Shows Health Benefits. Yes...cutting out 300 calories a day may save your life (we hope). Both articles (and this podcast) will stimulate smart conversations, for sure.
Don't forget to reach out to me through our website and let me know what you think.

Ed Henry Donates His Liver
Season 1 · Episode 8
dimanche 14 juillet 2019 • Duration 40:17
What a story! Ed Henry from Fox News donated about 30% of his liver to his sister that was in need of a liver transplant as a result of end-stage liver disease. Through a series of amazing twists, I was was asked to appear on Fox and Friends last week to help explain live liver donation, organ transplant, and the overall liver transplant process to the Fox and Friends audience. During this broadcast, Ed Henry announced his decision to donate, in a very emotional segment. For most that saw this genuine outpouring of emotion from Ed, they were very much unfamiliar with organ donation and transplant, let alone a partial liver donation and transplant, and the eventual regeneration of both the donor's liver (i.e. Ed) and his sister who received the transplant (i.e. 30% to 100% in a matter of weeks after transplant).
While we all enjoy these type of human interest stories on TV or the web, this story has struck a chord with America, seeing both the raw emotion displayed, but also the amazing good that organ donation and transplant achieves. Being a small part of this story has been an amazing experience for me, and one I can only hope continues to foster discussion, understanding, awareness, and hope for those thousands of people that are awaiting a transplant.
Check out a video highlight of the story.
For information on ORGAN DONATION, check out this link. Discuss with your family today your wish to be an organ and tissue donor.
Thanks for listening. Send me an e-mail with your comments.

Eat Like a Sicilian
Season 1 · Episode 6
jeudi 20 juin 2019 • Duration 33:54
In Episode 6, Dr. Joe Galati shares his experience while on the road traveling to Sicily. With his Sicilian roots, Dr. Galati digs deep into the Sicilian culture through the centuries, and how all of this has impacted the food that is eaten on this relatively small island just off the coast of Italy. Sicily embodies the best of the "Mediterranean Diet", but with their own twist. With a diet high in local vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs and spices, and of course, olive oil, the Sicilian way of eating is optimal for health and wellness.
Dr. Galati is joined by Eszter Vajda, an expert new anchor, reporter, and journalist, who is the creator and co-executive producer of "You Me & Sicily!" with Alfred M. Zappala. A true Sicilian expert, Eszter shares some of her experiences with Dr. Galati about both the history and culture of Sicily, but also the food.
One of the olive oils from Sicily to consider using is ASARO Olive Oil.
We are all eager to hear from you regarding the Sicilian way of eating. Can you give it a try?
