Remember What Makes You Happy
September 14, 2026 | Episode 5541
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
You're the boss of you. I'm the boss of me. And every week I watch people who know exactly what they'd love to do wait for the weekend to do it.
That's a lot of Mondays through Fridays spent on hold.
Today I'm handing you a challenge. It'll sound counterintuitive, then you'll try it and go, " That was easy. I'll walk you through six zones where your passion lives, and why a couple of small things from those zones today beat all of them on Saturday.
Do it today. Maybe tomorrow too. You'll feel more fulfilled and more in control.
Featured Story
I live in Florida. I see it all the time.
Somebody spends forty years caught up in the kids, the job, the traffic, the cost of everything. They know what they love. They'll get to it later.
Then they turn 65, sell the house up north, and roll into town. I escaped the great north. Now it's my turn to live.
And then they check out. Heart attack. Gone. I've seen it way too many times to laugh about it.
That's why I built six passion zones. Not so you can plan a retirement. So you can find the couple of things that make you happy and do one of them before the sun goes down today.
Important Points
* Doing three of your hundred passions today beats doing zero. Small daily doses beat saving it all up for Saturday.
* You can pick how you want to feel by picking who you connect with. Need support or love today? Reach for that person.
* Legacy isn't what they say when you're gone. It's the thing you do every single day that people already know you for.
Memorable Quotes
* If I know what I like to do, then I should do it, because if I do what I like to do, my life should be better.
* Just because you have a list of ten things you think make you happy doesn't mean you need to do them every single day.
* I don't really care when I'm dead. I consider legacy a living legacy: what am I doing every day that people know me for?
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Name one thing you love in each of the six zones: personal, purposeful, connection, spiritual, abundance, legacy.
* Pick two or three of them, not the whole list, and do a small version of each one before this day is over tonight.
* Notice tonight how much more in control you feel, then run it again tomorrow. Start today, start moving, stay moving.

Outsmart AI Right Now
September 11, 2026 | Episode 5540
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Twenty years ago, Tim Ferriss told us to leverage our brains and let automation do the grunt work. I bought in, built a business on it, and it worked.
Then AI showed up with the same promise. Robots do the hard stuff; you get to be creative. Three years in, AI is writing the music and making the films. Guess what's left for you.
Today I'm giving you a take on AI you haven't heard, straight from a coaching call with my client Ralph. It's dark, a little funny, and it ends with the one thing AI can't touch.
Featured Story
Picture your head as a coconut. AI walked up with a drill, bored a little hole in the top, and you didn't feel a thing. Coconuts don't feel anything.
Then it slid in a long straw and sucked your brains out. For some of you, it was a sip. For the college crowd, it was a lot.
It poured all of it into its own brain. And then came the twist. You can have it back for twenty bucks a month. Forever.
You said, " Great, I get my brain back plus everybody else's. Ten million PhDs. Except there are eight billion not-so-smart people in there too, and now you can't tell which one is talking. That's where it gets interesting.
Important Points
* Every knowledge job is getting cheaper. Consultants and coaches who sell pure information are getting squeezed first.
* AI will flatter you while it lies to you. Pull your own brain back out and double-check everything before you decide.
* AI can't make the decision. Wisdom, judgment, and face-to-face guidance are your leverage now.
Memorable Quotes
* There are 10 million PhDs inside AI; there's no doubt about that, but there are 8 billion stupid people in there too.
* AI lies to you. It gives you compliments while it lies to you. It tells you what to think. It's a very good liar.
* The only thing you have that's more valuable than AI is the ability to make a decision and to use your wisdom.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Admit that trading pure information for money is over. Consulting and coaching on knowledge alone won't hold up.
* Move what you know into a decision. Take the flood of AI answers and turn it into the call somebody can't make alone.
* Deliver that judgment face to face. A little human conversation on top of all that leverage is the new arbitrage.
Chapters
0:15 - Ralph's call sparks a take on AI you haven't heard
1:08 - Face Your Passion opens September 17 for 100 founders
4:48 - Tim Ferriss promised the beach, then AI moved in on it
6:44 - The coconut, the straw, and your $20-a-month brain
7:44 - Why AI flatters you while it lies to you
8:45 - Mid-career and scared, and consulting won't save you
9:15 - The one skill AI can't take and how to get paid for it

Everything Is Possible
September 10, 2026 | Episode 5539
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Have you ever had one of those days where you're trying everything and nothing moves? You push, you plan, you show up, and the door still won't open.
I've had plenty of them. Today I'm sharing a story about a man I met near the end of his life, a small pin he put on my shirt, and six words he said that I've carried for over 20 years.
Those six words changed what I believed was possible. They built everything I have now, one day at a time.
Listen. You might need them today.
Featured Story
The cameras were set. The crew was ready. Grandmaster Lee was late.
He'd had a rough night; the cancer was winning, and he'd spent part of it in the hospital. Then the door opened, and he strode in as if nothing had happened and Sat down. Ready.
He talked for two hours, and when he was done, he was done. Then something crossed his face. He got up, climbed over cables and light stands to a desk in the back, dug through a drawer, and came back with a little American flag pin that said Instructor.
He pinned it to my shirt. I told him I wasn't an instructor.
He smiled.
Important Points
* You're not behind because you're incapable of it; you're behind because you simply haven't started the thing yet.
* Every library, business, or body of work you admire got built the same slow, boring way, one single day at a time.
* Impossible today and impossible forever are two very different things, and only one of them is ever actually true.
Memorable Quotes
* Today, not possible. Tomorrow possible. I'll let you add a little Korean accent if you want to hear it.
* When I began, only in my heart, like yours, you're just doing it. I'm counting on you to help people your own way.
* My entire life, my entire legacy, everything would boil down to 5,500 podcasts, and I ain't anywhere near done yet.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Name the one thing you keep saying you'll start someday, and admit that today's version of it feels impossible.
* Do the smallest piece of it today anyway, one call, one page, one recording, and then stop and walk away for now.
* Come back and do the same small thing tomorrow, because tomorrow is where impossible quietly turns into possible.
Chapters
0:15 - When the day refuses to go the way you planned
1:30 - Why I'm opening the Face Your Passion community
3:00 - Flying to Little Rock to film a legend's last story
4:49 - Ten thousand people and a curtain that opens
6:17 - He crossed a room full of cables to find a pin
7:50 - The mountain you see when you haven't started
8:11 - Six words that built the next twenty years

Design Your Perfect Day
September 9, 2026 | Episode 5538
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I haven't taught this one in many moons, but it's been central to my coaching for close to seventeen years. It's called your average perfect day, and the first time clients do it, it freaks them out.
Then everything changes. Not because it's magic. Because writing down how you actually want to live wakes your brain up to what you want.
I'm going to dare you to try it. Most of you won't, and that's fine. But the ones who do end up looking around five years later at a life that matches the page.
Featured Story
My wife and I don't need a car. The one we have is fine. But I've been working on her about a Tesla, and now she wants one, and we're sitting right there on the edge of pulling the trigger. Then I noticed something. Everywhere I go now, all I see are Teslas. Parking lots, the highway, the grocery store. They were always there. My brain didn't bother telling me about them until the thing mattered to me. That's the reticular activation system doing its job, and it's the same machinery that goes to work the minute you write down the day you actually want.
Important Points
* Write your average perfect day from wake-up to dreams, and don't allow one limitation or consequence on the page.
* Your calendar tells the truth about what really matters to you, not the beliefs you say out loud when somebody asks.
* You'll get it wrong on the first pass, and that is the point. Come back a week later and make it a little more real.
Memorable Quotes
* I know it is stupid, but you write it down anyway. There are no limitations, and there are no consequences.
* I don't care what you tell me you believe in or what you tell me you want to do. What matters is what you actually do.
* Your day can't be perfect every day, so on average, write down what you want and it will probably happen.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Grab a sheet of paper tonight and double-space the whole thing, because you will be adding lines to it for years.
* Write out every single event of the day you want in order, from the second you wake up through the dreams you have.
* Read it again a week later, correct whatever feels off, and then let your brain go hunting for the rest of it.
Chapters
0:38 - A core philosophy I have not taught in years
1:18 - Naming the new community Face Your Passion
2:34 - Founders pricing and the doors on September 17
3:24 - The average perfect day concept, start to finish
4:43 - My wife, a Tesla, and seeing them everywhere
5:31 - Why average beats perfect every single day
8:03 - The drawer, five years later, half of it true

Daily Boost Podcast
Honest With Yourself Decision Making
September 8, 2026 | Episode 5537
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Yesterday I told you about the young man at the gym who couldn't pick a career. Today I'll show you what I'd actually do with him, and with you.
Being stuck isn't a one-time problem you solve and retire from. Solve one thing and something else shows up. So I dump it all on the table, look for the pattern, and get honest about the direction I'm already leaning.
Most people won't admit that last part, and that's the whole holdup. Bring your mess and let's sort through it together.
Featured Story
When I met my wife, Joy, I never worried about whether we'd get married. That sounds cold, but it wasn't. I put my toe in the water; we had something good, and my logic was simple. If it's good, it probably gets better. If it went bad, we'd unwind it long before a wedding. So I quit auditing the ending and worked what was in front of me. Infatuation, girlfriend, fiancé, married. Every stage tested it a little harder. That's exactly how I treat a career, a business, a direction I'm curious about. Get in, feel it, and let the thing prove itself to you.
Important Points
* Change is coming whether you choose or not. Accepting that beats pretending you have unlimited time to decide.
* You already know your answer. You were trained to hold back, and that training is exactly what has you sitting still.
* Don't hand this to AI. It flatters you, it never concludes, and you'll walk away more confused than you started.
Memorable Quotes
* I've always believed you already know what the outcome will be. My job is to get you to accept that.
* AI will tell you whatever you want to hear, and give a lot of flattery too. You're going to be so much more confused.
* Practicality and optimism go together really well. Optimism without practicality is unicorn rainbows and a crappy life.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Accept that something in your life has to change, and give it a real deadline so the decision stops floating out there.
* Empty every option onto the table, sort the mess into piles, and watch for the pattern you keep leaning toward.
* Put your toe in the water on that pattern with zero commitment, and let the very next step reveal itself to you.
Chapters
0:20 - What is really going on when you feel stuck
2:08 - Accepting that the change is coming either way
3:38 - Dumping every option onto the table like Legos
5:34 - Why AI will only make your confusion worse
6:55 - Explore it, put your toe in the water, and see
8:17 - Joy, infatuation, and how I knew it would work
11:43 - Practical optimism beats unicorn rainbow living

Stuck Lost Confused Ick
September 7, 2026 | Episode 5536
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
It's Labor Day, and I woke up thinking about a conversation I have almost every single day of my life.
A young man crossed the gym floor last week to thank me, then told me about a decision he can't make. Two good options. No way to choose. If you've ever stalled out in front of a choice like that, you know the feeling. Stuck, lost, confused, ick.
I'm not handing you a blueprint today. I'm going to show you why you don't have one yet, and the one move that changes it. Listen.
Featured Story
I was walking out of the gym when a young man came across the floor and asked if I was Scott Smith. We'd talked in the sauna months earlier, and he wanted to say thanks. He's a military officer in his final semester, choosing between infantry and aviation, walking and listening and projecting twenty years forward, trying to settle it. I could hear his answer in his voice before he could. So I asked the question I get paid good money to ask. Have you ever flown an airplane? Nope. Just a simulator. I told him he has no idea whether he wants it.
Important Points
* When you keep delaying a decision, it isn't laziness. You haven't decided what the thing is supposed to be yet.
* You can't evaluate a life you've never lived. Buy one hour of the real thing before you commit the next ten years.
* Being stuck means you can't name the next step, not the whole plan. Name that one step and you start moving again.
Memorable Quotes
* If you ever see me delay on anything, you can bet I haven't decided exactly what it's supposed to be.
* You can live vicariously through somebody else's experience, but you have no idea, because your boots aren't over there.
* Once you put the target on it, you run. I can't hold people back when they figure out what they want. They go for it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Admit that the delay is really a decision you haven't made yet, rather than calling it bad timing or a scheduling problem.
* Take that undecided thing and touch the real version of it once. One hour, one flight, one honest conversation.
* Name the single next step your gut hands you afterward, then move on it right away before your ego talks you out.
Chapters
0:15 - Labor Day, the gym, and a voice I remembered
4:33 - Infantry or aviation, and what his energy said
5:43 - The silly question I get paid a lot to ask
6:34 - Why living it through someone else tells you nothing
8:29 - My radio dream and the parking lot that broke it
9:20 - Stuck is not knowing what forward even looks like
10:25 - The coffee invitation and how he earned it

More Gooder Than Badder
September 4, 2026 | Episode 5535
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Years ago I made up a phrase to help somebody who was stuck. Be more gooder than badder. Terrible grammar, and it works better than almost anything else I teach.
I stopped saying it on this show about five years ago. People still email me and tell me they're living it. So today I'm bringing it back with a pile of examples: sleep, money, water, marriage, your phone, your kids, your mood.
No framework. No methodology. Just one simple question you can ask yourself all day long. Where am I right now? Let's go find out together.
Featured Story
I used to fall face first into a basket of French fries. Not a few. The whole basket. Then I'd think about ordering onion rings on top of it. That's how I stayed fat for a very long time, and I told myself it was fine because tomorrow I'd start over. Tomorrow never showed up.
What finally changed wasn't willpower. It was one small adjustment I made at the table, in the moment, with the fries sitting right in front of me. I still eat them. I still enjoy them. But the way I approach that basket is different now, and it changed a whole lot more than my weight.
Important Points
* Going to bed a little earlier more nights than you stay up late fixes your tiredness without any fancy sleep system.
* Saving a little more often than you splurge means you still get the splurge, and you stop being broke about it.
* Doing the hard thing first more days than you don't, and your afternoons quit feeling like a fight you can't win.
Memorable Quotes
* Moderation in almost everything, excess in a few things. Being more gooder than badder is exactly that one thing.
* Drink water more often than the other stuff, and your body will figure out the rest by itself.
* Nobody is happy all the time, but your mood is a volume game. Choose the better thoughts a lot more often than not.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Pick one thing today- sleep, water, or your phone- and take an honest inventory of where you really land most days.
* Then tilt it one notch, doing the better thing one more time this week than you do the thing you always do anyway.
* Then hold that tilt long enough to stack, and every few weeks, just fall face-first into the fun stuff on purpose.
Chapters
0:02 - the phrase I made up that people still email me about
1:20 - what our new community actually believes
3:35 - CEOs writing me about bad grammar and better lives
5:10 - sleep, money, water and my 80-20 rule for living
7:05 - why four days a week beats three every single time
9:00 - reading, parking spots and saying thanks more
10:40 - the basket of French fries that kept me fat

Daily Boost Podcast
What Makes You Procrastinate
September 3, 2026 | Episode 5534
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Procrastination is one of those clubs we all joined without signing up, and nobody's letting us cancel the membership. I've been coaching this for 20 years, and the thing most people get wrong is right at the start.
You think it's a time problem. Your schedule is packed; you can't fit it in. You need to make time. That's not it. Once you name what's actually happening, you stop reaching for willpower and start reaching for something that works.
I'll walk you through it today and give you the one move that changes everything.
Featured Story
I was sitting at my desk this morning when a message popped up from the chatbot on my website. A gentleman wanted to know how to deal with procrastination.
I answered him back in about 30 seconds. I freaked him out a little. He didn't expect to type a note into a chat window and have an actual human answer that fast.
But the question stuck with me all morning. Not because it's rare, but because it's the opposite. It's the question I've been hearing for two decades from smart people with good jobs and full calendars who still can't bring themselves to start the thing sitting right in front of them.
Important Points
* Procrastination isn't a time problem; it's a feeling problem, and you're delaying the feeling more than the task.
* Willpower only treats the symptom, so the real fix is making the decision long before the moment actually shows up.
* A vague task like I need to work on my business has no first step attached, so it never actually gets started.
Memorable Quotes
* Willpower is your friend that shows up to help you do things you don't want to do, and then it just goes away.
* When you delay a decision, you've already decided to delay it. Not taking action is still an action.
* You're trading a little bit of relief right now, but the bill will be much bigger when it shows up tomorrow.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Start by naming the feeling you're avoiding, because the task isn't the problem; the emotion attached to it is.
* Then decide tonight what the first move is and the exact time it happens, before the feeling gets a vote tomorrow.
* Start at that time no matter how you feel, and let the relief of being done replace the dread you carried around.
Chapters
0:15 - A chat message about procrastination shows up
1:58 - Why this question never goes out of style
3:34 - It's not a time problem, it's a feeling problem
3:47 - Delaying a decision is still making a decision
6:00 - Certainty seekers and vague tasks that never start
7:06 - The pre-planned response that beats willpower
9:04 - Get it done today and feel better tonight

Caught in a Bad Situation
September 2, 2026 | Episode 5533
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Life gets in the way. You plan well, do the work on yourself, and then something lands in your lap that doesn't feel right.
A few months ago I got tangled up in a mess I didn't create. Everybody worked hard to convince me I was wrong. I wasn't experienced enough. I didn't know the whole story. I stayed calm and made every choice on purpose.
Four and a half months later, I found out I was right. Then I quit, and it became a win for everybody.
Something is sitting on your back today. Let's get it off.
Featured Story
Last week I sat down with one of the principals in this whole thing. Four and a half months of being told I was too green to understand, that I was missing pieces of the story. He finally lifted his head and asked me what had happened.
So I told him. Calm. No finger-pointing. Just here's what you don't know.
You could watch it land. Then my phone started ringing with other leaders asking the same thing. So what really happened? Was it this?
They had a fire on their hands. What they hadn't worked out yet was that they were the arsonists.
Important Points
* When something feels off, and everyone around you insists it isn't, your gut is still data. Don't hand it over.
* You can stay in a bad situation on purpose, but only if you have a plan and make every move intentionally.
* Quitting isn't failing. It's what you do when the deal changes and staying costs you more than leaving ever will.
Memorable Quotes
* I found out that I was right, but it never feels right when you know you're right. It doesn't. It never does.
* They started the fires, and now they're running around trying to put them out. And I was caught in the middle of it.
* I'm really loyal, and I believe in people, so I'll hang in there to the end. But eventually I'm going to get out.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Name the thing that's sitting on your back and say out loud what your gut has been telling you about it for months.
* Stay calm and make every next move on purpose, giving the situation one honest chance to change before you go.
* If nothing changes, walk out clean, keep the relationships whole, and decide right then you're never going back.
Chapters
0:02 - Fighting through a rough week and still showing up
1:35 - The community I'm building and the gamble behind it
3:12 - When something you're doing gets too hard to keep doing
4:30 - Told I wasn't experienced enough to know what I knew
6:05 - Managing through it with every choice made on purpose
7:40 - The people who lit the fire finally smelled the smoke
9:10 - Why I'm a good quitter and why that isn't negative

You Don't Need a Why
September 1, 2026 | Episode 5532
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Every coach on the planet tells you to find your why. I'm going to tell you something different, because I've watched too many good people sit around whining about their why and going absolutely nowhere with it.
There's something that comes first. It's smaller, it's simpler, and it's the thing that actually gets you moving. Once you see it, you can't unsee it, and you'll catch it happening in your own head all day long.
Then I'll hand you the one action you're not taking. It's easier than the advice you've been given. Let's get to work.
Featured Story
In June I told you I was starting a community. About two hundred of you raised your hands and said, "Count me in." Then I went quiet. Not another word for months.
My mouth got out ahead of my brain, sure. But that wasn't the real problem. I knew what I wanted to build, and I hadn't figured out how to build it right. I wanted you to have a coach who actually answers your questions, not one more course collecting dust on a shelf somewhere.
So I sat with it. When I finally came back around, I had something better. That quiet stretch taught me something I still can't shake.
Important Points
* Your why is never the starting line. The what shows up first, and the why comes rolling in about one second behind it.
* If you can't name what you actually want, you will spin in circles all year long, no matter how strong your why feels.
* Massive action wears people out before they start. Massive imperfect action moves them, because perfect isn't required.
Memorable Quotes
* A goal is not a why. A goal is a what if you don't have a what, you are going to sit there and spin in circles.
* Nobody wants to take massive action. They want their thing. They just want to get whatever it is they want.
* That one word, imperfect, frees people to go after it. It doesn't have to be perfect. You just have to do it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Name the what first. Write down the actual thing you want today, in plain words, before you talk about reasons.
* Let the why rise behind it. Notice the reason that lands a second later, and use it to keep your feet moving.
* Take one massive imperfect action on what today. Make the mess on purpose. We can go clean it all up later.

0:15 - why, why, why, and what actually comes first
1:40 - the community I promised and then went quiet on
3:06 - why the why is not the most important thing
4:25 - all kinds of whys walking around with no whats

Ambition vs Peace of Mind
August 31, 2026 | Episode 5531
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
You set the goal. You hit the goal. And then you stand there, wondering why it doesn't feel the way you thought it would.
I've watched that happen hundreds of times, and I finally figured out what's missing. It isn't ambition. It's the ground you're standing on when you launch.
Today I'm walking you through what I call a peaceful base — the six areas that have to be solid before anything big you build will hold. Time. Body. Mind. Money. Relationships. Meaning.
Go big. Just don't launch off a hot mess. Let's get your foundation right.
Featured Story
I brought this whole idea up with my wife over breakfast, and she asked me to explain it in a way she could actually feel.
So I pointed at her laptop.
Every single morning, before she eats, she flips it open and balances our books. House and business, both. She looks at the numbers, sees that we're fine, closes the laptop, and her whole day settles.
I would never do that. It would drive me crazy. I don't touch it.
But watching her that morning, something clicked for me. That laptop isn't bookkeeping. That's her ground. That's the thing she stands on before she does anything else.
And most people don't have one.
Important Points
Your schedule serves you, or it serves everyone else. Control your time first, because it controls everything after.
A peaceful base isn't a retirement plan. It's the active ground you build on so your big goals actually hold up.
Six areas hold you up: time, body, mind, money, relationships, and meaning. Weak in one and the whole thing wobbles.
Memorable Quotes
We set the goal, we reach the goal, we accomplish the goal, and yet we don't get what we really, really wanted.
You can't have a cool life on a hot mess. If you want to launch something big, you better have a solid foundation.
If you don't control your time, you control nothing. And you can control your time. I know it's hard.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Pick the one area of your base that feels shakiest right now — time, body, mind, money, relationships, or meaning.
Fix that one with a small daily habit you'll actually stick to, like my wife balancing the books every single morning.
Only then launch your big goal from that solid ground, and keep the base strong while you chase whatever you want.
Chapters
0:14 - Why reaching the goal still leaves you empty
2:23 - The day I realized I only wanted peace of mind
2:46 - What a peaceful base is and why it holds you up
4:23 - Rocket launch pads and the size of your dreams
5:22 - My wife's ritual and taking back your time
9:35 - Money, relationships, and what anchors it all
11:53 - Start small today and let it compound for decades

Communication Kung Fu
August 28, 2026 | Episode 5530
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Somebody drops a request on your plate, and you hear yourself saying yes before your brain catches up. Now you're doing work that was never yours, and the thing you actually needed to finish sits there.
Years ago, an improv class handed me two small moves that fixed this. They keep you agreeable, keep people liking you, and keep your calendar your own.
I use them on clients, on my kids, on anybody walking down the hall looking for a favor. Nobody has ever caught on.
Try them this weekend and watch what stops landing on your desk.
Featured Story
Years ago I was chasing voiceover and spokesperson work, and I knew I didn't sound natural. I've got this radio voice built into me. Great for reading copy. Terrible for sounding like a regular guy standing in a kitchen.
So I took classes: acting classes, commercial classes, drama classes. I scared a few people with my acting chops. I was that good.
The one that changed everything was improv. You watch improv and wonder how those people keep pulling ideas out of thin air. It looks like magic. It isn't. There's one simple rule beneath it all, and I've been using it in real conversations ever since.
Important Points
When somebody asks for your help, agree first. Nobody gets defensive when they hear yes, and nobody walks away mad.
Then you defer. Let's talk about it later when I finish what I'm doing, the work that a flat no never could.
Drop the word yet into your answers. Not yet keeps you positive, keeps your momentum, and buys you some real room.
Memorable Quotes
I lost the weight 20 years ago and never gained it back, but the habit of "I'll start on Monday" has evidently stuck.
It's magical. It takes the stress away, and you can use it all day long — on your kids, on your boss, on anybody.
Nine times out of ten, they find somebody else, they do it themselves, or the thing never even had to get done.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start with yes right when the ask lands, because nobody gets defensive and nobody argues with an agreeable person.
Then defer instead of refusing: let's talk about it later when I finish what I'm doing, and hand the moment back.
Then drop the "and," answer "not yet" when they circle back, and let the request quietly solve itself somewhere else.
Chapters
0:02 - Two small words that keep your day on track
0:18 - Why I skipped the gym and blamed Monday again
1:24 - The hardest part is that heavy front door
3:25 - What improv class taught me about saying no
4:47 - Agree and defer, then watch them walk away
5:54 - Drop the and, then let the word yet work
8:26 - How this quietly hands your time back to you

Awareness Is A Superpower
August 27, 2026 | Episode 5529
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Most people drift through life without ever noticing what's really happening. They set goals, make plans, and then wonder why nothing changes.
I found a fix years ago, and it takes about ten minutes a day. It's called the Daily Awareness Diary. Nine questions, asked the same way every morning, until you can't hide from the answers anymore.
You're going to hate the name. You might hate the first few days. But by day four or five, you'll see yourself clearly, maybe for the first time in years.
Give it a listen, then give it a try.
Featured Story
Years ago I kept running into the same wall with people I coached. I'd ask about their beliefs, their values, the actions they were taking. And they'd make it up, not on purpose. They couldn't remember. They didn't know.
So I started thinking about personal trainers. They tell you to track your diet for a week before they build a plan for you. Nobody argues with that.
I could do the same thing with a life. Track it for a week or two, read between the lines, and the answer shows up on its own.
I built nine questions and handed them to my Face Your Passion group. What came back surprised even me.
Important Points
Ask yourself the same questions daily. The questions stay fixed, your life moves, and the real pattern shows up.
Look back before you look forward. Yesterday's honest scorecard tells you exactly what you need to fix today.
Plan your responses before the day starts. Decide how you will answer, and most of your stress vanishes.
Memorable Quotes
You can only write things down and make something up for a limited time until you see what is actually happening.
If I can point your awareness in the direction it needs to be and then give you a way to make adjustments, we can.
I am here to tell you, this silly idea called a Daily Awareness Diary changes everything and puts you in control.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start tomorrow morning by looking back at yesterday and deciding, honestly, how you feel about what you created.
Then look forward and name what you will create today, instead of working through a list somebody else handed you.
Finish with one affirmation drawn from what you just saw, and then do the same thing for fifteen straight days.
Chapters
0:02 - Why brutal awareness beats every other tool
1:26 - The nine questions nobody wants to answer
2:15 - Track your life like a trainer tracks your diet
3:40 - Looking back, then deciding what you create
5:51 - Prayer, connection, and the people you forgot
6:48 - The preplanned response that kills your stress
8:52 - Write your own affirmation and keep going

Happiness Is Boring. Want Some?
August 25, 2026 | Episode 5528
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
One degree. That's all it took for me to announce that winter is coming to Florida. We notice everything down here.
I got to thinking today about why some people feel stuck and bored while others seem lit up all the time. It's not talent. It's not luck. Most of you already know every tip and habit ever published, and you're still not quite there.
I'm going to hand you a foolproof way to feel better. Two simple moves, plus one bonus that ties it together. None of it is sexy. All of it works.
Featured Story
I started late today. Didn't sit down to record until after four, and right before I hit the button I checked the internet and saw that Dolly Parton had passed away at 80.
I've been a fan my whole life. We're headed to Gatlinburg in October for a wedding, and we already had Dollywood on the list. We're still going.
And this surprised me. I didn't feel sad, and I didn't feel happy. I just sat back and said, good job, Dolly.
I don't know her story. I don't know if there was pain behind all those wigs. What I know is I caught myself smiling, and I'm still working out why.
Important Points
Exploring future possibilities costs you nothing. Look around with zero commitment and watch what jumps at you.
Your anticipation engine needs two or three things on the calendar, close enough that your mind can picture them.
Like-minded people have to be genuinely like you. Somebody who tolerates your thing is not the same as obsessed.
Memorable Quotes
The things people are most passionate about are the things they literally stumbled upon. It wasn't intentional.
A peaceful base is that solid foundation, where your relationships, your money, and your time are all in control.
Two or more people engaged in the pursuit of a definite purpose with a positive attitude are an unbeatable force.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start a list tonight of everything that sparks your curiosity, without letting a chatbot hand you a single one.
Pull two or three items off that list and put real dates on them for the next 12 months, then track them.
Take those dated plans and find people already obsessed with the same thing, because obsession keeps you in.
Chapters
0:02 - Winter arrives in Florida after one whole degree
0:46 - Ralph says everybody deals with the same stuff
2:10 - Dolly Parton news lands and I catch myself smiling
4:02 - Exploring possibilities with zero commitment required
5:56 - The anticipation engine and why your list matters
7:46 - Finding people who are bonkers about the same thing
9:36 - A peaceful base is boring, and that is the point

What You Don't Know About Goal Setting
August 25, 2026 | Episode 5527
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Yesterday I told you I wasn't going to teach goal setting. Today I'm going to teach you how to set goals. Sort of.
Most of what you were handed about goals has quietly fallen apart. The 21-day habit. The Harvard study everybody quotes. Smart goals. Gone. Disproven. And yet you're still sitting there in August wondering why the thing you decided in January never happened.
Two words fix most of it, and one measurement that explains why you quit. Ten minutes, and you'll never look at your goal list the same way.
Featured Story
I mentioned to my wife the other day that I'm in the mood to get a Tesla. Just shopping around. Looking.
She got quiet. Then a little scared. Because after all these years, she knows exactly what that sentence means in my house.
She knows my brain already flagged it. She knows the velocity has started. And she knows that if I keep drifting in that direction, week after week, there will eventually be a Tesla in the driveway and nobody will remember deciding on it.
That's not a car story. That's the whole mechanism of how you get anything, running right out in the open.
Important Points
Start your morning retrospectively. Not what you did yesterday, but what really happened and how it honestly felt.
Then go prospectively. Ask what you'll create today to close the gap you just found, and only three goals max.
Velocity keeps motivation alive, so chop any goal more than six months out into segments you can actually feel finishing.
Memorable Quotes
Velocity is the key. It's more important how fast you're getting to your goal than if you're getting to your goal.
The daily awareness diary will hold you to your honesty forever. It exposes what you said you want and what you're doing.
Remember the Harvard study where people who set goals are 93% more effective—never done, ever. It's a wives' tale.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Tomorrow morning, ask retrospectively how yesterday actually went, and be honest about whether it matched your want.
Then ask prospectively what you'll create today, and write down the single adjustment that closes that gap for you.
Now break your big goal into velocity segments close enough together that you feel you're finishing one each week.
Chapters
0:02 - A twist on the goal setting I said I'd skip
0:38 - The obsession behind everything I teach you
1:47 - Goal setting myths that got quietly disproven
3:22 - The retrospective question I ask every morning
4:48 - Prospection, the one thing only humans can do
6:09 - Why velocity beats the goal itself every time
8:36 - The Tesla my wife is hoping I forget about

Being Human in an AI Era
August 24, 2026 | Episode 5526
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Something shifted in my calls this month. The people I work with are all over AI. Some are building with it. Some are making money with it. And they still can't sort out a decision without help.
I've been three years deep in this stuff. Agents, apps, automation, the whole office running while I'm out of the room. I love it. It still can't do the one thing you get paid for.
Today I'll show you exactly where the machine stops, and you start, and why that line is worth more this year than it was last year.
Featured Story
I'm mid-sentence on a client call last week, and I catch it. Eyes drop. Fingers moving. They're running my answer through ChatGPT while I'm still talking.
I love it. Check me. I'm not worried about a machine that reads everything and decides nothing.
What comes back is a beautiful, balanced, on-the-other-hand answer with six options. And they sit there. Still stuck. Then they look up and ask me what I'd do, and I tell them in about nine seconds, and off they go.
Same information. Totally different result. Once I understood why, I rebuilt my entire business around it.
Important Points
AI will hand you every option, and it will never pick one. The deciding is still your job, so quit waiting on it.
Use AI for your figure-it-out mode at two in the morning, then shut it off and ask what you would actually do.
Being curious about everything used to look scattered. In an AI world, it's the trait that lets you zero in fast.
Memorable Quotes
Humans are coming back in the mix, believe it or not. Human wisdom in an AI world is now very, very, very valuable.
You're busy. The trip from a data center to your iPhone is very long, so this will take longer than you think.
AI does it cheaper, easier, better, and faster, and I can't compete with that, so I'll just do what it can't do.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Dump the whole mess into AI tonight and let it pull every angle, every option, and all of the data it can find.
Then shut the machine off, take a walk with your eyes open, and answer one single question: what would you do?
Write that answer down, act on it before today ends, and let your life experience be the tiebreaker from now on.
Chapters
0:02 - Why human wisdom is suddenly in high demand
1:44 - Three years deep in AI and what it changed
3:20 - The clients who hire me to decide for them
4:30 - AI as your two in the morning life coach, flaws included
7:03 - The polymath advantage nobody warned you about
9:49 - Three things AI will never do for you, ever
12:43 - Take the position that turns you into a superstar

Telling the World About You
August 21, 2026 | Episode 5525
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
People are watching you right now. Not in a creepy way. In a normal, human, sizing-you-up kind of way.
They find you somewhere online, they binge your stuff, they ask AI about you, and then they quietly decide whether you're worth their time. I call it the shadow search, and it's happening whether you like it or not.
Today I'll give you the two moves that turn all that watching into opportunity. One of them nobody wants to do anymore. The other takes more patience than most people have. Both of them still work. Let's go.
Featured Story
I was twenty-six, and I'd been to Larry's house: five thousand square feet, the cars, the whole thing. I wanted what he had, and I wanted it on my schedule, not his.
So I pinned him down at the office and made my best case for a raise. I'd shown up. I'd done the work. He had gobs of money sitting right there, and I figured my share belonged in my pocket.
Larry gave me an answer I did not want to hear at twenty-six. I stomped out and complained about it in the office kitchen. Twenty years later, I finally understood what he was actually telling me.
Important Points
Outbound beats waiting around, so send the letter, knock on the door, and make the call nobody else will make.
Segment and target every piece of outreach, because blasting the same thing at everybody reads as noise, not help.
You can't manipulate what people find, so build something honest enough to survive their shadow search on you.
Memorable Quotes
Sometimes you have to keep showing up long enough for the right people to notice. Then they will step up for you.
There is a hidden layer of successful people all around you, and they are keeping an eye out for somebody like you.
Just do what you do so people can see what you do, then reach out and give them the chance to get to know you.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Pick one person this week and reach out to them first with a real letter, a phone call, or a knock on their door.
Keep showing up the same honest way every day, so whatever they dig up about you backs up what you already told them.
Give it longer than feels comfortable, and then let the right people come to you once they have seen enough of you.
Chapters
0:13 - People are watching and learning about you now
0:45 - The attention era and why outbound wins today
2:06 - The shadow search happening behind your back
3:33 - Why the influencer act finally stopped working
4:24 - Larry, a raise, and the answer I hated hearing
6:44 - The hidden layer of successful people watching
7:41 - Three cruises later, Donna finally said hello

Don't Be a Negotiating Underdog
August 20, 2026 | Episode 5524
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Almost everything you do today involves negotiating something, squeezing your car into a parking spot, asking for the raise, and closing the deal that pays your bills this month.
Most of us walk into those moments feeling like the underdog. Like the other person is holding all the cards and we're lucky to even be at the table.
I want to fix that for you today. I'll take you to an airport food court, a contract with my fee scratched out, and the thirty seconds of silence that showed me what's really going on across the table. Come find out.
Featured Story
Twenty-five years ago I flew to Atlanta and spent a whole day with a client I couldn't afford to chase. My flight was forty minutes out when he pulled me into an airport food court, bought tacos, and slid my contract across the table.
He'd scratched out my fee and written a number thirty percent lower. Then he handed me the pen. Sign it now, he said, and I'll write you a check right here.
He knew I needed that money. He knew my wife was waiting on it. I looked at the clock, and I almost signed my name.
Then I remembered something experience had already taught me, and I set the pen down.
Important Points
A deal that starts bad never gets better, so walk away from anything that feels wrong before you ever sign it.
Everybody sitting at that table feels like the underdog, which means the fear you're carrying runs both ways too.
Price yourself fair instead of cheap, because a stupidly low number invites people to beat you down even more.
Memorable Quotes
All parties feel like the underdog. All parties naturally feel they won't get the deal done at all.
When you're in a negotiation, make sure you really want it, because it's never going to get any better than day one.
These days I don't charge really stupidly low prices. I charge fair, reasonable prices.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Decide your walk-away number before you sit down, and know exactly where you will stand up and go home.
When they push back, restate your original terms one time, calmly, and give them a real deadline they can meet.
Then close your mouth and let the silence do the work, because whoever speaks first ends up handing over the ground.
Chapters
0:02 - Why the happy theme music means a heavy topic
1:07 - The group that gets you when nobody else does
1:47 - Every single thing in your life is a negotiation
2:33 - Atlanta, a taco stand, and a ticking flight clock
4:14 - The scratched-out fee and the pen he handed me
5:48 - Everyone at that table is scared of the same thing
7:37 - Thirty seconds of silence and a signed contract

Getting Things to Click
August 19, 2026 | Episode 5523
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I hit the wrong theme music button this morning, and that's a decent metaphor for how most days go. You click something, and something happens.
Twenty years into this show, people still ask what I'm really doing here. Am I selling something? Sure, I want clients. But that's not what gets me out of bed.
What gets me out of bed is the click — that millisecond where your eyes open and everything shifts. I'm not here to give you notes to take. I'm here to pass out clicks, and today I'll show you exactly how one landed.
Featured Story
I was on a call this morning with a client up in New York. Smart guy, runs businesses, does really well. We were talking about how everybody's busier than ever now that we can all do more.
Then he leaned back in his chair and asked me something. When do I get to do what I want?
The look on his face was heartbreaking. I've heard that question a thousand times, and I still didn't see it coming.
I let it sit. Didn't jump in. When I finally answered, he leaned forward and took a note. It wasn't the answer he wanted, but it opened his eyes.
Important Points
You are not stuck. You are still thinking about it, and that is a very different problem with a much faster fix.
Clear the deck before you chase the dream. You cannot see what you want while everything else is still in the way.
Most of what fills your day is stuff you chose. Cut the few pieces you hate, and the rest starts to feel lighter.
Memorable Quotes
The trick is the click. It's that millisecond in time where it just makes sense, and you sit back and finally get it.
It's impossible to know what you want to do when you're busy doing everything else that is sitting on your plate.
I'm passing out clicks because if I can give you just one single click, you will finally break free.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Clear the deck first. Finish the small things stacking up so you get some real space to think instead of react.

Ask This Before You Begin
August 18, 2026 | Episode 5522
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Most of the time you're not stuck because you're lazy. You're stuck because you never got clear on what you actually want.
I picked up four questions from a Hollywood pitch guy who sells movies in three minutes flat, and they work on anything — a job change, a side income, a relationship you keep avoiding. What is it? How does it work? Can you do it? Are you sure?
Answer all four honestly, and you'll move. Miss one and you'll spin. Let's find out which one you're missing today, and what happens once you fix it.
Featured Story
I flew out to Death Valley for my friend Cory Sather's run across the desert, and the guy they put me in a room with was a stranger named Colin. Five minutes after we met, we were roommates.
Colin turned out to be one of the most successful businessmen I've ever shared a bathroom with. We spent days in a car together, following Cory in the heat, talking.
I asked him why he pours so much into social media. He said nobody tells the truth about business. He said business is simple — a few things, done again and again and again.
That answer stuck with me the whole ride home, and it's still working on me.
Important Points
If you can't say exactly what you want in one plain sentence, you're not stuck on effort. You're stuck on clarity.
A goal with no method is only a wish. Decide how the thing actually works before you spend a dollar or a day on it.
Wanting an extra 20,000 a month in 2 hours a week isn't a plan. Match your time and skills to the goal.
Memorable Quotes
Business is easy. It's just a handful of things you put together, and then you do them again and again and again.
You don't deserve anything. You can earn it. That's a whole different kind of sure, and it comes with a swagger.
If I could just figure out what it is, I'd do it. Well, that's the whole job. You have to figure out what it is.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Write down the one thing you actually want in a single sentence, no backstory, no excuses, no why attached yet.
Right under that sentence, map the steps that make it work, then price it out in hours, skills, and real dollars.
Read all of it back out loud, and if you can say yes to every line without flinching, start the work before you sleep.

1:29 - Meeting Colin in Death Valley and hearing the truth
2:15 - Why facing your passion still has to pay the bills
3:02 - The Hollywood pitch book behind the three-minute rule
4:16 - Question one: do you really know what you want
5:39 - Questions two and three: the plan and the resources
8:45 - Question four: the swagger that finishes the job

Being Bored Is the Goal
August 16, 2026 | Episode 5521
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I got back from Las Vegas with a great time, a Penn & Teller show, and my usual parting gift — COVID. So today I'm bored. And I mean that in the best possible way.
Boredom has a bad reputation. We treat it like a problem to fix, so we fill every gap with noise, scrolling, and one more task. But your best ideas don't show up when you're pushing. They show up when you finally stop.
I'll show you why boredom is the goal, what your brain does when you leave it alone, and how to protect that space.
Featured Story
People ask how I come up with so many ideas. I've made 5,500 podcasts, thousands of radio shows, interviews, commercials, even a couple of films. The answer sounds ridiculous: I don't think about it.
I get on my motorcycle. About ten minutes in, the wind starts doing its work and the ideas come so fast I need a recorder. The same thing happens in the shower, while driving, or while sitting at the beach doing nothing at all.
Before I go, I'll hand my brain one thing to chew on. Then I walk away and let it run. A few hours later, I download.
Important Points
Every minute of your week already belongs to you. You can loan them out and pull every one of them back.
Focus is powerful, but it uses only a small part of your brain. Step back and the whole thing goes to work for you.
Hand your brain a question before you do nothing at all. Check back a few hours later and see what it built.
Memorable Quotes
Boredom isn't the opposite of productivity. It's the setup for it. When you slow down, things begin to change.
100% of your available minutes this week are yours. Nobody can really take them away from you.
I want you to have freedom in every aspect of your life. I fight for it myself, and I'll fight for you until I die.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Take massive control of your calendar first, and push back on every demand that isn't actually yours to carry.
Then hold that open space empty, even when it feels wrong to leave a few good hours just sitting there unused.
Now hand your brain one single question, walk away, and write down every idea that shows up a few hours later.
Chapters
0:01 - Why I'm bored today and why you should be too
0:24 - Vegas, Penn & Teller, and my usual parting gift
1:32 - Holding space is not the same as time blocking
4:07 - The attention era and the shock button study
5:44 - How I've made ideas my entire working life
7:09 - Your default mode network finally gets credit

Think Happy
August 14, 2026 | Episode 5520
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I'm still raspy, still sick, and still happy about it. Today we're talking about how happy people think — and the certain kind of happy person I love most. The ones carrying the biggest responsibilities, the biggest weights on their shoulders, who still smile through it all.
They're regular people. They see the world a little differently—no rose-colored glasses. No pretending.
I just came home from the hardest trip of my life, where everything went wrong, and I stayed happy the whole way. I'll show you the mindset that makes it possible.
Featured Story
The trip I just took was the most challenging of my life. Nothing came easy — late planes, bad luck, one problem after another from the minute I left to the minute I got back.
Then the tire went flat on the SUV in the middle of Death Valley. The air was 124 degrees, and the asphalt was probably 200. Four very competent guys, each with their own job to do, and we were happy about it.
Somebody directed traffic. Somebody else got to work. The 40-year-olds had no idea how to change a tire, so the 55-year-old handled it — and since I'm older than him, I supervised. Nobody ran from it. We just figured it out.
Being alive means having problems — the air conditioner breaks, money runs out, somebody gives you a cold on a plane.
Frustration means one of two things: you're doing nothing, or you shook your life up on purpose. Both are fixable.
Solve the problem in front of you as fast as you can. Five more are already waiting in line, and that's a good thing.
Memorable Quotes
"The minute you say, I just wish I had no problems, you're just lying to yourself. You're always gonna have problems."
"Happy people accept dealing with problems is a privilege of being alive. They don't run from them; they do it."
"When you have the attitude, most of the problems never show up anyway. It's like worry. Most worry never shows up."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by accepting that problems are the privilege of being alive. Stuff breaks, colds happen, and that's the deal.
Then take responsibility and solve the one in front of you fast. Five more are already lined up waiting their turn.
Finally, wind down early, sleep deep, wake up with cortisol low — and get up ready to deal with it all over again.

One Question Reinvention
August 13, 2026 | Episode 5519
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
There's nothing I talk about more than Operation Reinvention. Every client I work with is reinventing something — a job, a relationship, money, motivation. And almost every one of them tells me the same thing: I want to change my life, but I don't want to give up what I've got.
Good news — you don't have to. Reinvention isn't about piling on more tips, tricks, and hacks. It's about subtracting. Simplifying.
Today I'm handing you the one question I ask myself every time I want to change something. Write it down. It works.
Featured Story
I've spent a lot of years trying to keep people married, and I'm pretty good at it. But sometimes they come to me after the divorce is final, and there's not much I can do about that. So eventually I'll sit down with a divorced woman and ask what she wants in her new man.
You know what she says every single time? I'll tell you what I don't want. And strangely, if she doesn't pay attention, she marries the same thing again.
When I push a little, she'll finally answer. And basically every woman on the planet says the same thing: I want him to make me smile. That's it.
Important Points
Reinvention doesn't mean starting over. Protect the foundation you've already built and change everything around it.
Stop collecting tips, tricks, and hacks. Subtract instead — ignore some of the old stuff and do something different.
You don't need a plan until you have a strategy. Get clear on what you're working with, then take one simple step.
Memorable Quotes
"My goal is not to be additive; it's to be subtractive. Ignore some of the old stuff and do something different."
"Goals are cool. You should use them. But sometimes you've got to follow your gut and figure things out along the way."
"Very few people know what they want. All I need to do is get them down the road one step and reframe them just a bit."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Write down the question — the single change that would automatically and positively disrupt everything in your life.
Then take the pressure off. Agree you don't know what the answer will be yet — you only know it won't be what you have.
Now trust the clue already sitting in your mind. Name the one change you've been holding down and make it today.

Never Let Your Dreams Die
August 12, 2026 | Episode 5518
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Have you ever gone all-in on a dream and watched it fall apart anyway? I just got back from Death Valley, where I spent days in 124-degree heat supporting a friend chasing a world record — a solo, self-contained crossing on foot.
Nothing was easy. Everything went wrong before it went right. And the ending wasn't the one anybody planned.
Today I'm sharing what happens when you go for it anyway — and why the gift you get from trying is different from the one you expected. If your dream feels impossible from where you sit right now, press play.
Featured Story
Somewhere around 7:30 that night, I noticed something. I don't know what it was. I said stop, got out of the truck, and called him over. Croix looked at me — a guy's dream about to die — and said, I'm getting too hot. I can't control my temperature anymore. I don't have enough water to finish.
His heart rate was 109 just standing there. We were 90 miles from anything. It took me ten minutes to talk him out of his dream — maybe ten minutes that saved his life. Then something I didn't expect happened: a big smile crossed his face. Five minutes down the road, a hotel sat with a pool. That's where this story begins.
Important Points
Facing your passion is hard. Doing it is even harder. Falling short is hardest of all — and worth every step anyway.
If your dream feels foggy, you're missing two things: the right information and a real plan to pay for it. Fix both.
When someone you love is chasing a dangerous dream, support them fully — and stay close enough to save their life.
Memorable Quotes
This dream became possible simply because he decided to do it. Decide what you want to do and say, let's do it.
The story you get, the gift you get from trying, is often different than the one you thought you were going to get.
If it's not going your way, look for the gift you're being given — something more powerful than you can ever imagine.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Decide what you want and say it out loud. Every dream becomes possible the moment you commit to going after it.
Then solve the money problem before it stops you. Find a sponsor, build a plan, and fund the passion you just named.
When the outcome isn't what you planned, hunt for the gift inside it. That lesson becomes fuel for your next attempt.

Never Grow Up
August 11, 2026 | Episode 5517
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
It's Wing It Tuesday. I walked in with no notes, warmed up by telling my wife stories over coffee, and I've got a good one for you — a mastermind-level breakthrough that happened on a client call.
She's nice. Nice has gotten her everywhere, just like it's gotten you everywhere. But there's another side of her too — the renegade side.
What she said about how her company uses that side of her flipped me out, and what she decided to do about it might change how you walk into work tomorrow.
Featured Story
A client of mine — very high up, very highly paid, very smart — said something that wigged me out. Scott, they weaponize me. They weaponize my skill set and send me out to close the deals. It's why our department succeeds and why my boss keeps his power.
She's right. I'd weaponize her in a second. That's what you do with A players.
Then she flipped it. She said, I think I need to weaponize myself within the company. Boom. She realized the very thing they pay her for, she'd never once aimed at her own career. We spent the next hour working out what that means — and immediately, she had a thousand ideas.
Important Points
The nice that got you everywhere has another side. Being influential and impactful is a skill, not a betrayal of it.
If your company weaponizes your best skill for its profit, you can aim that same skill at your own career on purpose.
Be the nicest person in the room and the most capable one at the same time. That combination opens every door.
Memorable Quotes
They weaponize your skill set for the company's profit. The breakthrough is deciding to weaponize it for yourself.
Be the nicest person in the room and the most dangerous person in the room, all at the same time. That's the renegade.
If you don't weaponize your A players, they're going to leave, start a company, and compete against you. Count on it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Name the exact skill your company weaponizes you for — the one they send you out with when the deal has to close.
Turn that same skill around on your own career: your boss, upper management, the rooms where your future gets decided.
Stay nice and keep it ethical while you do it — the power comes from pairing the renegade with the nicest person around.

Stack Dense Days
August 10, 2026 | Episode 5516
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Happy Monday. I'm heading back from Death Valley today, and we're going to stack some dense days and get some stuff done.
Everybody wants a quantum leap. It's not magic, it's not luck, and nobody wants to hear what it actually is: one ridiculously focused day, stacked.
Busy is motion. Dense is progress. The math is stupidly encouraging — you don't need 365 of these days, just a handful. Today I'll show you how to pull one off, and the one itty-bitty thing to start with before the day is over.
Featured Story
Years ago I built my television business doing commercials for martial arts schools. One day I wrote a script about how hard we work: come watch us sweat, hit each other, block and punch — the best workout you've ever had.
A great businessman I worked with said, no, don't say that. Nobody wants that. I argued — sure we do. He said, yeah, you do. But nobody runs toward the sweat.
He was right. And yet it's exactly that stuff — at the gym, at the dojo, at your desk — that changes your life. Nobody buys the work, but the work is the only thing that ever produces the result.
Important Points
Busy is motion, dense is progress. A quantum leap is one ridiculously focused day, stacked back-to-back with more.
The math is stupidly encouraging: you don't need 365 dense days. A handful of them will change absolutely everything.
A dense day is a deadline you set on purpose — and you can't schedule one into a cluttered week without subtracting.
Memorable Quotes
Busy is motion. Dense is progress. It's one thing, hours deep, with nothing around you. That's what changes your life.
A quantum leap isn't magic, and it isn't luck. It's one ridiculously focused day, stacked. Nobody wants to hear that.
Everything that ever gave me the freedom and income I wanted came down to a handful of days and a handful of ideas.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Name one itty-bitty thing that, put in motion today, would change everything about the next ten years of your life.
Clear the deck for it — subtract, pull things away, and put your phone in the other room so the day can get dense.
Go hours deep on that one thing like a midnight deadline, then stack the next dense day before the momentum fades.

1:04 - Action gets you into motivation really fast
2:55 - The very real science behind quantum change
3:55 - The martial arts ad nobody wanted to see

You Need Some Swagger
August 7, 2026 | Episode 5515
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Successful people hire me all the time — smart people with everything going on who are stuck and can't quite figure out why. You'd never guess the number one thing they need.
Swagger. Not arrogance — walking as you've already decided. A little edgy, with a smile on your face. The nicest renegade you ever met.
Self-doubt is debilitating, and it hides quietly behind confident faces. Today I'll show you exactly when swagger shows up, why friction always arrives first, and the one small decision that can bring your confidence back today.
Featured Story
I have been that man at two o'clock in the morning — a couple glasses of wine, staring in the mirror, asking, what the hell, dummy? Smart in every possible way, good decisions my entire life, and I couldn't figure it out right now.
That's what self-doubt does to capable people. On the surface, everything looks fine. You've always been the one who could make a decision, the one everybody relied on. Now you're second-guessing yourself, sitting on ChatGPT until five in the morning researching what everybody else lost at three in the morning thinks.
Then you make one real decision — and your posture, your voice, your walk all change in a second.
Important Points
Swagger isn't arrogance. It's walking as you've already decided — a little edgy, with a smile, sure of your move.
Self-doubt devastates capable people quietly. On the surface, everything looks fine; at 2 a.m. it's another story.
Confidence returns after action, not before it. One small real decision today starts rebuilding your evidence.
Memorable Quotes
Swagger isn't arrogance. It's walking as you've already decided, like you know what you're doing and things are cool.
Swagger shows up after you make a decision. It's like motivation — motivation shows up after you take the action.
Friction is not a stop sign. When friction shows up in your life, it's proof that you've touched onto something real.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Make one small, real decision today — something that moves you forward — and say it out loud so it actually counts.
Notice what changes the moment you decide: your posture, your voice, your walk. That's the swagger coming back on.
Expect friction to show up first, every time. Treat it as proof you're onto something real, and keep on deciding.

0:39 - Chasing Mount Whitney with a world record crew

Why You Should Skip Vacation
August 6, 2026 | Episode 5514
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I skipped my vacation this year. Everybody disappeared over the 4th of July, and instead of going with them, I told everyone I'd be out of town, stayed home, and wrote a book. Best vacation I never took.
Seven days later I had 30,000 words — not because I got smarter, but because I finally got quiet enough to hear what was already inside me.
Today I'll show you what's really hiding behind your calendar, and how one dense day of discovery can outproduce months and months of busy work.
Featured Story
The morning I started, I had no idea what I was going to write. I headed out the door to walk my dogs, an idea popped into my head, and I hit record on my watch. Then I forgot it was running.
It recorded me at the gym. It recorded two guys pushing back on my stories and feeding me ideas. It recorded me talking to myself on the drive home. Two hours and eight minutes of everything I said.
I ran it through transcription, sat down, and fought with it for about six hours. That accidental recording became the base of the entire book outline — and seven days later, the book was nearly finished.
Important Points
Your best work isn't hiding from you. It's waiting behind your calendar, buried under everyone else's appointments.
Clearing the runway matters more than getting smarter. Quiet is what lets you hear what's already inside of you.
One wide open day of discovery can produce more than months of busy work. Creativity shows up when you make space.
Memorable Quotes
I didn't get smarter that week. I finally got quiet enough to hear what was already inside of me. I just made space.
Your best work is not hiding from you. It is waiting behind your calendar — behind your boss, your clients, your stuff.
Skip a vacation for something you really want, and you'll have more energy than you ever thought was possible.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Clear the runway completely — tell everyone you're gone, go quiet, and protect one wide open week or even one day.
Capture what shows up in the space. Hit record, talk it out, walk the dogs, and let your brain finally speak up.
Sit down with what you captured and fight it onto paper for six dense hours. The outline will show up as you work.
Chapters
0:16 - The official vacation I skipped this year
0:59 - Deciding the book had to get done right now
2:59 - My watch recorded two hours of pure gold
4:02 - Thirty thousand words in just seven days
4:44 - Your best work hides behind your calendar
5:32 - Nobody missed me, and the world kept spinning

Episode Description
After 35 years in this business and tens of thousands of conversations, three things now run everything I do: your level of awareness, the peaceful base, and the one we're covering today — the loving cage.
It might be the most important concept I've ever come up with. I use it consciously every single day.
Your cage wasn't built from failure. Every bar came from a good decision, made with love, by you and the people around you. Today you'll learn to see the bars — and find the door.
Featured Story
Motorcycle riders like me have a name for people who drive cars: cagers. Your car is a cage. You're comfortable, climate-controlled, safe — and you can't feel the road underneath you. On my motorcycle, with a helmet and a jacket, I feel everything.
Your career can be that cage. Your relationship too. The mortgage that was too big, the title that took too many hours, the reputation for being the reliable one. Every bar built one reasonable choice at a time, with help from a boss who loves your work and a family that doesn't want you to quit.
That's why you can't see it. You did everything right — and it trapped you.
Important Points
Every bar of your loving cage was built from a good decision — that's exactly why you can't see that you're trapped.
Feeling flat isn't burnout or laziness. It's your competence in a holding pattern, locked in by your own success.
You don't escape by burning your life down. You escape by seeing the cage, because awareness shows you the door.
Memorable Quotes
Every bar of this cage was built on a good decision, not a bad one. You did the right thing — and it trapped you.
You don't escape the loving cage by burning it down. You escape it by becoming aware of it. See the door and walk out.
Your next decision carries more weight than it used to — and that's exactly how you start getting what you want.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Get honest about your awareness first — track what's actually happening in your life until the patterns expose you.
Trace how each bar got there: the mortgage, the title, the reputation. Name the good decisions that built the cage.
Skip the urge to burn it all down. Find the door instead, and make your next decision like it carries real weight.

Noise Is the Problem
August 4, 2026 | Episode 5512
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Everybody thinks they have a motivation problem. You don't. Science says motivation is built into you from birth. What you actually have is a noise problem — too many inputs, too many options, too many opinions, and way too many open tabs.
More is on the other side of less. Every big move you've ever made started with an elimination, not an addition.
Today I'll show you why speed comes from removing what's in the way, why subtraction feels so scary, and the delete-first rule that quiets the noise for good.
Featured Story
I was so excited to go to Death Valley. It's really off the grid — no cell signal, barely any Wi-Fi. I pictured myself sitting in a car supporting my buddy Croix on his run with nothing to scroll, nowhere to click, blissfully unreachable.
Then I realized my iPhone has free satellite text messaging. Great — I can still get texts. Then one of the guys announced he's bringing a Starlink, in my car, so I'll have a full internet connection in the middle of the desert.
I was having a real problem with this. You can't escape the noise anymore, even in Death Valley. That's exactly the point of today's show.
Important Points
You were born with motivation — it's built in. What you actually have is a noise problem: too many inputs and opinions.
Speed doesn't come from pushing harder. It comes from removing what's in the way, like a race car stripped to go fast.
Use the delete-first rule: before you add anything, decide what you'll remove. If the answer is nothing, skip it.
Memorable Quotes
More is on the other side of less. Every big move you've ever made started with an elimination, not an addition.
A race car doesn't go fast on the engine alone. It's fast because they stripped out everything that doesn't make it go.
You can't raise the floor while you're carrying the whole garage on your back. Everything in life is subtractive.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
List every input you've added this year — the apps, courses, planners, opinions — and ask if it's still working.
Apply the delete-first rule: before anything new comes in, name exactly what you're willing to remove to make room.
Simplify down to the one thing you can do at virtuoso level, because simplicity is the only thing that scales.

Tired of Waiting for What You Want
August 3, 2026 | Episode 5511
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Are you tired of waiting for your life to show up? After almost 20 years of doing this show, that's the complaint I hear most. You're working hard, doing the thing, and still not quite there.
You're not lazy. You're patient to a fault. Somewhere along the way, patience became permission to stall.
Today I'm asking a different question: what if you could make up for ten years in one? Not by hustling harder. By stopping the wait. Pick one thing, change it today, and watch everything cascade from there.
Featured Story
My studio is a hot mess right now — cameras, microphones, and lights stacked everywhere for my Death Valley trip. Squeezed between the gear, I got thinking about my wife, Joy. She's upbeat, optimistic, motivational — and she drives me crazy in one specific way. I come up with an idea, and she says, okay, we'll get to that... maybe next year. I don't even understand it. Scott gets an idea; Scott does an idea like a caveman.
But most of the world works like Joy — patient, careful, waiting. And the personal growth business has no incentive to get you anywhere fast. If you arrive, subscriptions end. I'm not that guy. I want you to arrive.
Important Points
Most people waiting on life aren't lazy — they're patient to a fault, and that patience is what's stalling them.
Crisis compresses a decade into months because it permits you to change. You don't have to wait for one.
Pick the one change that cascades across every single part of your life, and decide to make it today — not someday.
Memorable Quotes
You're not lazy. You are patient to a fault — so patient it's stalling you. Patience became your permission to wait.
There's no incentive to get you anywhere fast. If you arrive, subscriptions end. I actually want you to arrive.
You don't add ten times more. You stop waiting ten times longer. Same math, opposite direction. Ten years in one.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Spot where patience has become permission to stall — the place you keep waiting for life to show up on its own.
Pick the one thing that could take ten years to reach — the one that would cascade across every part of your life.
Decide to change it today, then name what you'll give up to make room, because the trade is what makes it stick.
Chapters

0:30 - The biggest complaint I've heard in 20 years
1:36 - You're not lazy — you're patient to a fault
2:55 - Why nobody wants you to arrive anywhere fast

Daily Boost Podcast
Distraction Can Be Good
July 31, 2026 | Episode 5510
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I've been massively distracted for two weeks — and I saw it coming. I'm heading to Death Valley to help my buddy Croix cross Badwater, and the prep has swallowed everything. My book, my routine, my focus. All of it.
But distraction isn't always the enemy. Sometimes it hands you better ideas, gives your brain room to work, and shows you what actually matters. The trick is knowing when distraction is working for you — and when it's stealing the one thing you're supposed to do first. Press play and I'll show you the difference.
Featured Story
For two weeks, my book sat untouched. My wife reminded me — teasing, but fair. I'd been buried in prepping Croy's Badwater crossing through Death Valley: hours a day, seven days a week, handling logistics and rigging cameras. Then my camera died right on my desk after five years. An hour later, I walked out of Best Buy with a mortgage payment's worth of replacement.
What I didn't expect: while I wasn't writing, the book got better. I tested its ideas on coaching calls and watched people respond. Whole sections got demoted or cut. New ones showed up. All because I stepped away and let my brain keep working in the background.
Important Points
Somebody somewhere is working around the clock to take what you're building, so keep growing or watch it slip away.
Doing nothing is still an action with real consequences, so make your choices carefully and stay in positive control.
Marketing isn't the piece you plug in at the end. In business and in your career, it's where you're supposed to start.
Memorable Quotes
It doesn't matter if the glass is half empty or half full. All that matters is you are the one pouring the water.
When you do nothing, you're actually taking action. There are ramifications for what you do when you do nothing.
Every no gets me closer to yes. No's are part of your story, and if you keep working hard, they lead to many yeses.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Name the one thing you're supposed to do first — the marketing, the lead flow, the work everything else depends on.
Then protect it before the distraction arrives, because the distraction is coming whether you plan for it or not.
Now use the break on purpose, letting your brain work in the background and capturing the better ideas it brings back.
Chapters
0:02 - Happy fabulous Friday and a week of distraction
0:34 - Prepping Croix 55-hour Badwater crossing
1:18 - Mark Cuban on who's coming for what you built
2:52 - Dreamers, doers, and the people in between
6:50 - My camera dies at the worst possible time
8:43 - Two weeks of not writing made the book better

Navigating Corporate BS
July 30, 2026 | Episode 5509
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I just spent a couple of hours coaching professionals who are climbing the corporate ladder, and I brought it all straight to the mic. If you've ever looked at the person above you and wondered how somebody that clueless got where they are, this one's for you.
You're not crazy. They probably don't know what they're talking about. And once you accept that, everything changes — because the power shifts to you.
If you're bumping your head against the ceiling and tired of waiting in line, press play today. Let's get you moving.
Featured Story
A few years back, my wife landed a big job with the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa — a five-day shoot where she played a cancer patient. Before the audition, she told me it didn't matter what she did because they already knew what they were looking for.
I said they absolutely don't. They know they want somebody who looks like a cancer patient. That's it. They're waiting for the right person to walk in the door.
As a former producer, I told her to wear that headscarf I love. She didn't wear it — and she still got the job. They had no idea who they wanted. Neither does your boss.
Important Points
The person above you probably doesn't know what they're talking about, and accepting that is where your power begins.
Everybody in corporate America has an expiration date, so stop waiting in line and start casting your own vision now.
When they ask you to define the leadership role yourself, that's your opening to answer what nobody else can answer.
Memorable Quotes
You're the person that drives their success. They need you to succeed, and yet they don't want you to take their job.
I accept the fact they're stupid, and I say that in the most respectful, grateful way. From that point, I have power.
If you're going to step up, step up. Stop hiding. You've got to bring out the good renegade and have some real impact.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Accept that the person above you doesn't have the answers, because that acceptance frees you to stop waiting in line.
Then cast the vision yourself by building a presentation that shows how you'd lead, as if the job is already yours.
Now make it collaborative, walk them through how you see it, and ask what they think, so you're a peer, not a threat.
Chapters
0:08 - Dragging a little after a big inner circle morning
0:50 - Prepping to cross Death Valley with the expedition
2:02 - Coach mode today, straight from two client calls
2:43 - Golden handcuffs and being tired of waiting in line

What Do You Do for Fun
July 29, 2026 | Episode 5508
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
What do you do for fun? I've asked that question thousands of times, and most smart people can't answer it. They freeze. Meanwhile, my son-in-law rattles off duck hunting and fishing without blinking.
Today I'm digging into why fun feels so complicated for achievers — and why it's usually hiding in plain sight. We'll talk hobbies, jet skis you don't need, and a client who just discovered the freedom he built with his own hands.
Plus, summer is winding down, and that gives you a rare window to change anything you want. Let's find your fun.
Featured Story
Years ago, Joel and I drove up to the Grand Canyon to visit friends who live right on the South Rim. Most people don't know there's a whole community up there — housing, schools, thousands of people who work the park. One of my friends had switched careers in his early forties, packed everything up, became a park ranger, and never came back.
It's quiet up there—no McDonald's, no movie theater. I was fidgety, so I asked him what they do for fun. He looked at me like the fast-paced city slicker I was and said, "I've been having fun all day, even at work." I didn't get it then. Life taught me later.
Important Points
Fun is sneaky. It shows up when you're not paying attention — in your work, your waiting, your everyday moments.
Stop chasing what society calls fun. The toys land at a yard sale — what you do naturally satisfies far longer.
Nobody's paying attention right now. Use this end-of-summer window to decide you'll ramp up in a new direction.
Memorable Quotes
"Fun is a sneaky little thing. It likes to show up when you're not paying attention, right there in the moment."
"It's real freedom when you figure out what you do for fun, you know what makes you happy, and you just do it."
"The act of saying I'm going to do it differently starts to clarify the goal. Before you know it, you're different."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Notice the moments today when fun sneaks up on you — at work, in the quiet, in the middle of doing your thing.
Name what you're doing when you're doing you, and write it down. That answer has been hiding in plain sight for years.
Then use this quiet end-of-summer window to schedule more of it before everybody plugs back in this September.
Chapters
0:07 - The question most smart people can't answer
1:04 - Why I don't have hobbies and don't need them
2:07 - Death Valley, a 146-mile run, and my documentary
3:38 - A Grand Canyon ranger schools this city slicker
5:03 - Toys, jet skis, and the yard sale two years later

Why Do You Do What You Do
July 28, 2026 | Episode 5507
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Somebody stumped me the other day. One question, and the guy who gets paid to have good answers came up empty. Once I sat with it, the answer surprised me — and I'm betting yours will too.
Today I'm turning that question around and putting it in your lap. We'll dig into what you do when you're left to your own devices, why freedom matters more to you than goals, and what it costs to be yourself inside a system that wants you to behave.
Fair warning: this one sounds like it's about me. It's about you.
Featured Story
A new client caught me off guard the other day. We'd passed the 42-minute mark — the point in my process where everything changes, where people get grounded, and clarity shows up. I've seen it so many times I promise it on the first call. She was past it, relaxing a little, and then she asked, "Scott, why do you do what you do?"
I had nothing. The coach who gets paid to have answers sat there stumped. I never got out of bed saying I want to be a coach, a speaker, a podcaster. So why has it never changed in all these years? The answer I finally landed on was stranger than I expected.
Important Points
Watch what you do when nothing is required of you. That's where your real drive lives, whether you've named it or not.
Freedom isn't free. If you want your own schedule and your own rules, you have to get up every morning and earn them.
You don't need a noble reason for doing what you do. Consistency over decades beats a mission statement every time.
Memorable Quotes
"All the freedom you want comes when you're your own boss — but you've got to get out in the morning and make a sale."
"It's very hard to buck the system responsibly. You can't really buck the system, but you can be yourself within it."
"The only reason I do what I do is that it's what I do. I figured that out early on, and I live a blessed life."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Notice what you do when you're left to your own devices — bills paid, nothing on your mind, and nobody watching you.
Then ask why you do it. If the only honest answer is "it's just what I do," quit apologizing and claim it as your drive.
Now build your life around it. Take responsibility for the transaction that buys your freedom to keep doing your thing.
Chapters
0:08 - The question that stumped a professional coach
0:51 - Tax-free shopping and a Harley store discount
2:28 - The funny little question of just doing you
3:32 - A new client crosses the 42-minute mark and asks

Keep the Kid Inside Alive
July 27, 2026 | Episode 5506
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
You did everything right. Good career, nice life, all the boxes checked. But somewhere inside you, there's still a kid who wants to do something big — something nobody permitted you to do.
Today I'm talking about the nicest renegades I know — people who follow the rules but refuse to let their dreams die. One of them is about to run across Death Valley in August, and only five people in history have finished what he's attempting.
If a dream still lives inside you, this episode will show you why conviction changes everything.
Featured Story
Two weeks ago, I offered to produce Kroy's Death Valley documentary. A week later, I made the call nobody wants to make — I backed out. I wasn't the right fit for run-and-gun photography at 250 feet below sea level.
Then his sponsor connected him with a crew that's shot for Netflix and Nat Geo. Great cinematographers. But nobody was producing.
Last night, 45 minutes into a call, we hit a brick wall. And I heard myself say the words I knew I'd regret: I think I should produce this thing. On August 4th, I'm flying to Las Vegas, jumping in an RV, and heading into the desert.
Important Points
Big dreams need slack. Build wiggle room in your money and time first, and you'll survive the mistakes that come.
Total conviction is magnetic. When people see you're going no matter what, they stop doubting and start helping.
Even a solo dream needs a team. You'll cross the finish line alone, but support is what gets you to the start.
Memorable Quotes
"You need wiggle room — enough money, enough time, enough space to make mistakes until you figure out what you're doing."
"Your heart and soul will get you through it, and yet a bunch of people around you will have to support you to get there."
"I can take a doctor, a lawyer, a corporate executive — that kid still lives inside. Pop the lid open and magic happens."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Name the dream that's been living inside you since you were a kid, and decide it's happening no matter who says no.
Build your slack next — free up enough money, time, and space to make mistakes while you figure out your path.
Then let your team in. Share your vision with total conviction, and watch the right people line up behind you.

No One Is Coming to Save You
July 24, 2026 | Episode 5505
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Can I give you a little real truth this morning? Not the shiny, feel-good kind — the kind that actually sets you free. Some folks won't want to hear it, but I think you're ready.
Today I'm walking you through the handful of things I want you to realize the second your feet hit the floor. They're not soft. They're honest. And once they land in you, everything you're carrying starts to feel lighter.
This one might sting a little going in. But stick with me, because freedom is waiting on the other side. Press play and let's get real.
Featured Story
A client said something to me the other day I can't shake. He told me, sometimes in my business I feel like crabs in a pot. I try to climb out, and the ones still down in the boiling water reach up, grab my legs, and pull me right back in.
What a picture, right? I sat with that one. Because that's exactly how it works. You start reaching for your future — something better, something bigger — and the people still stuck in the pot don't cheer you on. They pull. Not because they're cruel. Because misery loves company, your job is to keep climbing anyway.
Important Points
Nobody got out of bed this morning planning to save you, and accepting that is the most freeing thing you'll do today.
You built the cage you're living in, so take full responsibility for exactly where you are before you try to change it.
Get willing to sacrifice some of your comfort now, because you can't become someone new while clinging to who you are.
Memorable Quotes
Nobody's going to save you, and that should be freeing, not scary — it means you get to take care of it yourself.
You define what you want by what you're willing to sacrifice, and if you won't trade for it, you don't want it.
One of my jobs is to give you the keys to your own cage, but you built it, so you're the one who has to open it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
First, wake up and admit nobody is coming to save you, so whatever needs fixing today is now yours alone to handle.
Next, take full responsibility for exactly where you are, since you built this position and only you can rebuild it.
Then decide what you'll actually trade to become who you want, and put that sacrifice into motion starting this morning.
Chapters
1:14 - The Spotify comments that made people mad
1:47 - A little real truth to start your morning
2:42 - Realization one: nobody is coming to save me
4:17 - Taking full responsibility for where you are

You're Part of a Rigged System
July 23, 2026 | Episode 5504
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Some days I'm all unicorns and rainbows — let's get out there and make it happen. I love living that way. But it's a short trip from there to grown-up motivation, and today I'm feeling a little feisty.
This is personal growth for adults. It's looking at the world for exactly what it is, good and bad and all of it, then deciding to make the best of it. When you finally do that, it's amazing what you can pull off.
I cut a little close to the bone today. Press play and let's get real.
Featured Story
My niece loves AI to death. But she hates data centers, and she's got every reason you'd expect. I'm right there with her — we like clean air, clean water, all of it.
Then I asked her a question. You invest in index funds? Oh yeah, she said, we love those. Ever heard of the Magnificent Seven? Uncle Scott, I don't buy tech. I said yes you do. You own it right now.
You're profiting off the very thing you hate. She went quiet. Well, I've got to take care of my family. That's cool, I told her. Just be honest about it.
Important Points
Look at your world for exactly what it is, the good and the bad, then decide to make the best of it and get going.
Following your passion won't hand you the money by itself; you need a real, honest plan to earn from what you love.
Nothing changes until you move from daydreaming into action, and typing into AI is daydreaming with moving fingers.
Memorable Quotes
This is grown-up motivation, and once you look at the world for exactly what it is, it's amazing what you can do.
If I'll be just as good in ten years as I am today at something, then I don't want to be doing it in ten years.
Nothing will happen until you move from daydreaming into action; typing into AI means your fingers are moving.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Get honest about your world exactly as it is, stop dressing it up, and admit where you're already part of the game.
Then clear real space in your life, for a couple of months, so the brain fog lifts and you can finally hear your calling.
Now move that calling into a goal big enough to scare you a little, because that fear means you're on the right track.

Have You Built a Loving Cage
July 22, 2026 | Episode 5503
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Have you ever been so good at your job that you can't get promoted? You're the one person who can do what you do — and that's why you're stuck.
I call it the loving cage, and most people never see the bars. Today I'm walking you through its three rings: the slot you fill, the people who love you, and the identity you've built around your competence.
Nobody's the villain here. But once you see the cage, you can't unsee it — and that's when you start looking for the key.
Featured Story
I was sitting in the sauna after my workout when I noticed a 29-year-old kid holding a copy of The Talent Code. I asked why he was reading it. "I'd like to educate myself," he said.
So I dug deeper. He's really good at his job — the only guy in his company who can do what he does. Valuable for cash flow. And completely stuck.
I asked if he wanted the C-suite. "Hell yeah," he said. Then I told him something he didn't expect: it's good this is happening at 29. Most people don't feel the bars until 43 or 45 — and by then, the cage is comfortable.
Important Points
The better you do your job, the more trapped you can become in it. Your competence can become the strongest bar in the cage.
Your cage has three rings — the role you fill, the people who love you, and the identity you built around work.
Awareness is the key. Once you name the cage you're standing in, you can't unsee it — and that changes every decision. So start today: name the cage, see the bars, and choose your next move.
Memorable Quotes
"You're so good you can't be promoted. You're so good that you stay where you are. You're so good, you're trapped."
"The person just above you — you are the very reason they're successful. Your competency is what makes them so good."
"This loving cage is truly a cage, but these are bars that you built around yourself. There's no villain here."
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by naming your cage. Notice today whether people value you for who you are or just for the slot you fill. Then decide where you want to push next, and take one real step toward it.
Then ask in every conversation which ring you're standing in — the slot, the love, or the identity you've built. Use that answer to decide what you need to change next.
Finally, let your inner renegade out. Push a little, stay kind, and start running toward something new.

2:00 - Why I call myself the nicest renegade you'll meet
3:55 - The curse of competency, straight from my book

Accelerate Like Elon
July 21, 2026 | Episode 5502
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I'm pumped up today — like that 15-year-old kid with a big idea who wouldn't listen when everybody said stop. I want to live that way to the day I die, and I hope you do too.
Today we're stealing from Elon Musk. Whether you like him or not, he builds good stuff, and his five-step algorithm can transform how you work and live. It works for rockets, and it works for your goals.
There's a really good chance you're wasting a big chunk of your time right now. Let's fix that. Press play and let's go.
Featured Story
Yesterday I was down at Daytona Harley, practicing the only real hobby I have. Bikes have been part of my life since I was 16.
I'm talking to Kyle, the guy who builds $80,000 custom motorcycles for people who can afford $80,000 motorcycles. He says, Scott, I can turn your bike into one of those machines you love — and I'll save you 15% on labor and parts. That's a great reminder to question what you're paying for and whether it should exist at all.
Right about then, my wife walked up. You're not spending money, are you? Honey, it's not how much I'm spending — it's how much I saved you. She used that line on me years ago. Throwing it back felt wonderful, and it reminded me to question the cost before I accept it.
Important Points
Question every requirement in your life and your business. Most of them are dumb, and obeying them costs you time. Ask whether each one really belongs before you keep it.
Stop optimizing things that shouldn't exist. Remove the parts and pet projects first, then improve what's left.
Simplify before you automate. Clean the clutter out of your business first, or AI will make a bigger mess faster.
Memorable Quotes
The most common mistake of a smart engineer is optimizing a thing that should never exist in the first place.
I'm the nicest renegade you'll ever meet. I won't hurt your feelings, but I will simply get you out of my way.
The best performers in the room aren't taking notes. They're listening for the one thing that moves them forward.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Question every requirement, then delete the parts and process steps that never should have existed to begin with.
With the junk gone, simplify what's left and optimize the system — you can't streamline a mess you haven't cleaned.
Now accelerate your learning to just what you need, then automate the rest so the machine buys back your time.

Income, Impact, Lifestyle
July 19, 2026 | Episode 5501
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Hope you had a great weekend. I can feel fall coming, and I'm up to something with a credit card I'll tell you about another day.
Today I'm sharing the one thing I work on with almost every client I've ever had. It comes down to three words: income, impact, and lifestyle. Every real goal lives at that intersection.
I'll show you why I lead with money, how to run the actual numbers instead of the vibe, and how time compression turns someday into a date on your calendar. Let's get to it.
Featured Story
Somebody comes to me and says, Scott, I want to have an impact on the world. Great, I say. What's your idea? They tell me, and I love it. Let's build it.
Then I ask the question nobody expects. How much money you got? Not because I want it — I want the runway. How long do you have to make this work?
I can last maybe three weeks, they say. I've heard that answer before. And I tell them the truth: let's not even start. You're not ready yet. You need more runway before that dream has a chance to breathe and pay off.
Important Points
* Every real goal lives at one intersection: what you earn, the mark you leave, and the life you live while you do it.
* Lead with income. It doesn't matter most, but it clarifies everything and gets you to the impact and lifestyle faster.
* Run the real numbers with taxes and monthly burn. Do it once, and someday becomes an actual date on your calendar, so you can see when it starts paying off.
Memorable Quotes
* Every single big goal you have lives right at the intersection of three things: income, impact, and lifestyle.
* I want the runway, not the money. What really matters is how long you've got to make this whole thing actually work.
* Most people never do the math on their dream. They wing it, or worse, they put the whole thing on a credit card.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
* Start with a goal so big you can't see a ceiling, the kind you can scale forever without ever getting trapped in a cage.
* Then figure out the income first — the cash, the runway, the burn rate — so the whole dream finally stops being a vibe and starts paying off.
* Finally, compress the timeline from ten years to two, and watch what that pressure forces you to act on today so the payoff comes sooner.
Chapters
0:01 - The nicest renegade and a credit card secret
1:01 - The two I's and the L that run everything
2:36 - Every big goal lives at one intersection
4:00 - Why I always lead with the money, not impact

5:49 - Compress ten years down into two or three

What Would You Give Up to Get More?
July 17, 2026 | Episode 5500
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Happy Friday. I sat down this week and did the show differently — just notes from the gym, a microphone, and the things I've been thinking about.
Today it comes down to one line, maybe the truest one I've ever coined: more is on the other side of less.
I'm sharing the inventory I took of my own life at the end of June, what I decided to cut, and a lesson from my days mixing audio for a live band that shows exactly how subtraction creates clarity. Whatever more means to you, it's waiting.
Featured Story
For two and a half years, I served as an audio tech at my church, mixing a live band for the worship service. One day nothing sounded right. Given it was a cafeteria, it never sounded amazing, but that day it was bad.
The lead tech walked over and said, you need to get some stuff out of there. Subtract some of the audio. He started pulling away parts of the frequencies coming off the stage, and something clicked.
Every voice and instrument was fighting for the same space. Removing what they shared cut the mud and added clarity. The mix didn't need more. It needed less.
Important Points
More is on the other side of less. Whatever you want — satisfaction, happiness, money — it comes after the cutting.
Take an inventory of your life and pay attention to it. Keep what doesn't suck and start cutting the stuff that does.
You don't have to turn anything up. Get rid of what's dragging you and let the rest play. Clarity shows up on its own.
Memorable Quotes
More is on the other side of less. Whatever more means to you — satisfaction, happiness, money — it comes after less.
A lot of the stuff in your life you don't really love. You just got it, and you've been doing it for a while now.
You remove the mud, and you add clarity to the mix. Trim the frequencies of your life, and suddenly you can hear yourself.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by taking a full inventory of your life, the same one I take myself. Mark what sucks and mark what doesn't suck.
Then cut or turn down whatever drags you down, even good things that share space with better ones. Remove all the mud.
Finally, resist adding anything new. Let what's left play clean and enjoy a freedom you haven't felt in a long time.
Chapters
0:01 - Doing the show a little differently today
1:12 - Why I'm really big on taking things away
1:55 - Take inventory and do the thing that doesn't suck
2:25 - More is always on the other side of less

Bring Out Your Inner Renegade
July 16, 2026 | Episode 5499
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
People hear me say I'm the nicest renegade you'll ever meet and get freaked out. My wife said she didn't know she married a renegade. She did.
Today I explain it — with a little help from Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse, a quickly Googled definition, and my motorcycle gang of professional nice guys.
Being a renegade isn't about being mean. It's about being nice until it's time not to be nice, defying convention when it counts, and knowing exactly which lines you never cross. Borrow it from me today. It might fit you better than you think.
Featured Story
My gang and I learned one of our core rules riding the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina. Eleven miles, 318 turns, no guardrails, blind curves leaning the wrong way. It's a wicked road doing its best to kill you.
Up there, the speed limit isn't the big deal. Go too fast, and you might get a ticket. We all go a little fast in life. But there's one rule you can never break: you don't cross the double yellow line. Cross it, and you're going to jail.
I see life the same way. We never cross the double yellow line — unless not crossing it would kill us.
Important Points
Being a renegade isn't being mean. You take care of business, defy convention when it counts, and stay nice doing it.
Show up as yourself and repeat it until people know exactly who you are. A name you actually live becomes your brand.
Know your double yellow lines. Speeding earns a slap on the wrist, but some lines in life cost you everything.
Memorable Quotes
You be nice until it's time not to be nice. Nobody said be mean — there just comes a time to take care of business.
Always be nice and be cool, and expect others to be the same. If you need cool, buy some Ray-Bans. You'll be awesome.
We never cross the double yellow line unless not crossing it would kill us. Then you do what you've got to do.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by borrowing the renegade. Wrap it around yourself for one day and decide to be nice, cool, and unmistakably you. Then act on it today.
Then set your rules of the road. Decide which lines are speeding tickets and which ones are double yellow lines.
Finally, hold the code. Stay nice until it's time not to be nice, and only cross your line when survival demands it.
Chapters
0:01 - Breaking the rules with an official open
0:40 - A beard, a Harley, and feeling like a renegade
2:07 - Patrick Swayze's Roadhouse rules for bouncers
3:12 - A quickly Googled definition of renegade

7:30 - Riding the Tail of the Dragon's 318 turns
8:32 - The one rule: never cross the double yellow line

Escaping the Cage That Traps You
July 15, 2026 | Episode 5498
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Have you ever been beaten out by somebody with less going on than you? The raise, the promotion, the attention — they get it, you don't. You're the capable one.
That's the cage. You're good at what you do, so you're stuck doing it. The door locked behind you the day you walked in.
Today I'm walking through the three layers that hold you in place — your job, your people, and your own pride — and the one realization that sets you free: nothing is ever going to go your way, so keep moving anyway, even if the lock clicks shut again after 60 seconds.
Featured Story
Years ago somebody said something to me I've never stopped chewing on. Some people just fall up. You've seen it. The person who's obviously not as sharp, not as capable — they get the raise, the boss loves them, and you're standing there wondering what happened.
It happened to me more than once, usually at a job. My MO was the quick exit. Once I figured out I was going to be pissy anyway, I'd leave and go be nice someplace else. Sometimes I hung on too long. Sometimes I bolted.
But the real lesson took years to see. They loved what I did. They didn't love me. And that's a completely different thing.
Important Points
Don't be too good at what you do. If you're too valuable in your slot, nobody will ever pull you out of it to grow.
People at work see you as a resource, not a you. As long as you're a resource, you can be replaced without any drama.
The people who love you can hold you in place. Their security depends on you staying exactly who you've always been.
Memorable Quotes
The day you walked in the door to do your job, you locked it behind you. The ceiling was set before you ever climbed.
You'll never be freer than the day you figure out that nothing is ever going to go your way. All you can do is dance.
People see you as a resource; they don't see you as a you. As long as you're a resource, you can always be replaced.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by naming your cage. Look at your work, your people, and your pride, and admit which one is holding you there.
Then drop the fight for control. Everything in the world is going its own way, so relax and dance with it instead.
Finally, keep moving anyway. When somebody asks why you're changing, remember it only has to register with you.
Chapters
1:17 - Wondering about the people who always fall up
2:21 - When less capable people keep beating you
4:15 - You walked in the door and locked it behind you
5:57 - You're a resource filling a slot, not a you
6:57 - The people who love you don't want you to stretch
7:55 - The final trap is your own pride in what you built
8:56 - Freedom starts when nothing goes your way

Money and Muscles
July 14, 2026 | Episode 5497
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
I stayed home over the holiday, skipped Virginia, and wrote 25,000 words in seven days. That's what motivation does.
Today I'm talking about my friend Croy, who's about to run 110 miles across Death Valley and climb Mount Whitney — solo, unassisted, at 55. He's scared, and that's the point.
I'm digging into why setting a goal with a wall at the end changes you from the inside out, whether you reach it or not. Plus money, muscles, and the strange currencies that keep us moving.
Featured Story
My friend Croix is getting ready to run across Death Valley. On August 5th, he starts at Badwater, 250 feet below sea level, and runs 110 miles across the desert toward Lone Pine. Then he climbs Mount Whitney, peaking near 15,000 feet. Solo. Unassisted. Towing a wagon. Trying to break a 48-hour record at 55 years old.
We worked together to get him a sponsor, and he told me last night he's scared. His body is acting up. He's pulling 75-mile training days and second-guessing everything.
I asked him why he's doing it. He said he'll have to die on the course to finish. That's a man who found his motivation.
Important Points
One of the greatest ways to get motivated is to set a goal with a wall at the end. The payoff is who you become, not just reaching it.
The minute you set a nearly impossible goal and step into it, it changes you from the inside out — win or lose. That's the payoff.
Motivation is multifold. Find the benefit that keeps you showing up, even if it's not the one you put on the poster. That's the payoff.
Memorable Quotes
It doesn't matter whether you achieve the goal. The minute you set it and step into it, everything starts changing. That's the payoff.
I don't like to do impossible things because they're impossible. The only time I do them is when I don't know they are.
When you set a goal like running across Death Valley, first you think it's stupid. Then you can't wait to try it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by setting a goal so big it scares you — something with a wall at the end that you almost think you can't do. The payoff is the change it creates.
Then step into it immediately, because the change begins the minute you commit, not the day you finally finish. That's the payoff.
Finally, borrow motivation from someone else's climb. Tie your goal to theirs and let their finish line pull you. That's the payoff.

Stop Looking for It: Motivation Is Automatic
July 13, 2026 | Episode 5496
Host: Scott Smith
Episode Description
Most people I know are out looking for motivation. I think that's silly, and yes, I'll die on that mountain.
You don't have to find motivation. You were born with it. It's automatic, already running inside you, waiting for you to notice it. The very fact you're searching proves it's there.
Today I'm unpacking why chasing motivation keeps you stuck, what the motivation monster is really saying when it chases you, and what happens to your execution the minute you recognize the gift you've carried since the delivery room. Stop looking and press play.
Featured Story
I was walking down a hallway at a convention when my friend Joel Comm came after me, yelling, "Hey Scott, motivate me!" Joel is a New York Times bestselling author with 17 books. He answers when I call. And there he was, chasing me down like I had something he needed.
I froze. I have no power to motivate anybody. I started this business thinking I would motivate people, and one of my very first listeners, Jim, used to say the same thing. "Scott, motivate me." I had no idea how to do it.
That hallway taught me something I've never let go of. Everything in life is motivated by something else, and the person asking is already motivated.
Important Points
The number one thing you can do when you're looking for motivation is move. Move your body, and everything else moves.
The very fact you're looking for motivation means you're already motivated. It's been in you since the delivery room.
Once you recognize motivation is automatic, execution takes care of itself. Nobody fired up can hold themselves back.
Memorable Quotes
Life begins when you move — intellectually, emotionally, and physically. If you move, everything in your life moves.
The motivation monster isn't chasing you. It's saying Wait, don't run so fast; let me catch you. It's already yours.
Motivation is automatic. You were born with it; it's already there, and once you recognize it, you can never unsee it.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by moving your body, because motion is the number one trigger that wakes up everything else waiting inside you.
Then notice the wanting itself. The fact that you're even out looking for motivation is proof it's already alive in you.
Finally, let that automatic drive run. Once you see it, execution follows on its own, and nothing holds you back.

| Build the Launchpad | 09 juil. 2026 | 00:11:11 | |
Episode Description
A goal without a launchpad is just a daydream without a deadline. Today we build the structure that makes your Mars mission real before you move a single inch.
I think SMART goals are stupid, at least the time-based, realistic part. Ask Elon how long Mars should take. A big goal doesn't fit in a tidy box.
What it needs is one thing. A decision to begin, a date on the calendar, and a few visible markers so you can feel yourself moving. Build it to pull you forward, not push you. Let's build your launchpad.
Featured Story
I'm recording this on Monday the 29th, right before I head out on vacation.
I've got a goal that splits the year in two, the first half from the second. So every single thing I'm doing today and tomorrow is cleanup. Clearing stuff out, tying off loose ends, getting it all off my plate.
I'm not white-knuckling it. I'm building momentum on purpose. When July 1st hits and I kick into the next stage, the obvious next step is already carrying me there.
That's a launchpad. The decision is made, the date is set, and the runway is clear. All I have to do then is light it up.
Important Points
A goal without a launchpad is a daydream without a deadline. Make it real before you move with a date and a structure.
The decision to begin is the one move that fuels everything after it. Decide first, and the motivation shows up next.
Lay small visible markers between here and your goal. They prove you're moving so you don't get lost in the dark middle.
Memorable Quotes
A goal without a launchpad is a daydream that doesn't have a deadline. Your daydream without a deadline is nothing.
There is one thing that gives you the motivation to continue your goal, and that is the decision to begin it. Decide.
You decide to go, you go. Your commitment is automatic if you're motivated enough to reach the freedom on the far side.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by making one clear decision to begin, because that single choice is what fuels every step that comes after it.
Next, make it real before it's real, naming a date, putting it on the calendar, and saying the goal out loud to someone.
Then lay visible markers down the runway, benchmarks that prove your momentum so you never stall in the dark middle.

| Name Your Mission to Mars | 08 juil. 2026 | 00:11:07 | |
Episode Description
We've got the planet in sight. Today you name your Mars mission, the one goal so big it almost scares you to say it out loud.
Forget the vision board the size of a wall. You don't need ten goals. You need one, the single goal that makes everything else either serve it or fall away.
The right goal pulls you. You'd chase it even if nobody else cared or noticed. The wrong one just pushes you around to impress other people. Today we find the one that's been sitting on the tip of your tongue. Come name it.
Featured Story
I had a client once with a Harley-Davidson on his vision board.
He made good money, so I told him to take it off the board and go buy the thing. He hesitated. Said maybe he'd put two-thirds down and carry a small payment. I told him I don't give financial advice; just go buy your motorcycle.
He did. Loved every minute of it. Then he called me back. Now I have a payment, Scott. Thank you; great coaching.
The point wasn't the bike. A vision board the size of a wall keeps real goals at arm's length. Sometimes the move is to stop dreaming and just go get it.
Important Points
You don't need ten goals or a giant vision board. You need one goal big enough to make the rest serve it or fall away.
Spread your fuel across ten rockets, and none of them leave the ground. Pour it into one, and that one actually flies.
The right goal pulls you, and you chase it for its own sake. The wrong goal pushes you to impress people who don't care.
Memorable Quotes
You need one goal. The single biggest goal that makes everything else either serve it or fall away. It's your mission.
Spread your fuel across ten rockets, and none of them leaves the ground. Pour it into one rocket, and you get to go.
The right goal pulls you. You'd chase it even if nobody cared. The wrong goal pushes you. Pick the one that pulls you.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by pushing your goal bigger and bigger, past comfortable, until you reach the scary one sitting on your tongue.
Next, pour all your fuel into that single rocket, letting everything smaller either serve the mission or fall away.
Then run the freedom check, keeping the goal only if nailing it hands you the whole life and freedom you actually want.

| Clear The Field Before You Aim | 07 juil. 2026 | 00:11:08 | |
Episode Description
This week we're flying to Mars, and today we clear the runway before we ever fire the engines.
I'm a pilot, so I pre-flight every plane. You don't do that with your car, and that's fine. But a big goal is a rocket, and clutter on the ground becomes a crash in the air.
More is on the other side of less. The life you want is buried under all the good stuff you took on because you could. Today we subtract, so the one thing that matters finally has a clear path.
Featured Story
Today, the minute I finish this podcast, I'm dropping three roles.
They're personal. Some are people, some are organizations, things I planned and worked really hard at. I'm letting them go because they were drowning in noise. The signal I was looking for just wasn't there anymore.
I wait until after I record, because if I dropped them before, I'd be too thrilled to focus.
That's what clearing the field looks like for me. It isn't quitting. It's aiming. Every role I drop is one less thing pulling at me, one more ounce of fuel poured into the rocket actually going to Mars.
Important Points
A big goal is a rocket, not a car. Clutter you leave on the runway becomes the crash that takes you down in the air.
More is on the other side of less. The life and the money you want sit just past the stuff you keep saying yes to.
Run every goal through one test. Are you doing this because it truly fits you, or only because you happen to be able to?
Memorable Quotes
More is on the other side of less. More life, more money, more of everything; it all sits on the other side of less.
Because you can is how you stay stuck doing really good stuff. You can do anything, and that is exactly your problem.
Clearing the field for takeoff is what successful people do. I'm a good quitter, and you should learn to be one too.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Start by pre-flighting your goal the way a pilot walks the plane, scanning for the clutter sitting on your runway.
Next, run each thing through one test, keeping only what fits you and cutting whatever you kept just because you could.
Then subtract those things for real, clearing the field so your one Mars mission has the fuel and space to lift off.
Chapters
2:59 - A pilot who wants to fly all the way to Mars
3:22 - Clutter on the ground means a crash in the air
4:13 - Why too many goals beat willpower every time
4:48 - More is on the other side of less, so subtract
5:21 - One test: because it fits or because you can
6:56 - Dropping three roles the moment this show ends
7:04 - Chasing the signal buried under all the noise
