This week on Comes A Time, the guys recap the Oteil and Friends run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on March 11th & 12th, 2022. The band featured Eric Krasno, Jason Crosby, Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman, James Casey, Tom Guarna, and Pete Lavezzoli. Oteil talks about the process of preparing and rehearsing for the shows and shares some of the context that different band members were coming in with. The two run through the setlists of the evenings and discuss all their favorite moments, plus Oteil shares some of the process of building the setlists. This week on Comes A Time, Mike and Oteil welcome Stephan Schwartz, writer, faculty member, and researcher focused on consciousness and extraordinary human functioning. Stephan shares his theories on non-local consciousness and discusses the idea that space-time arises from consciousness, not vice versa. He also goes in-depth on his firsthand experience working with remote viewing as a researcher and practitioner himself. The three also discuss the many parallels between different religions and their access points to the “soul” or continuity of consciousness through gathering, intention, ritual, and meditation. Stephan Schwartz is a Distinguished Consulting Faculty of Saybrook University, a Fellow of the William James Center for Consciousness Studies, Sofia University, and a Research Associate of the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory of the Laboratories for Fundamental Research.  For 40 years he has been studying the nature of consciousness, particularly that aspect independent of space and time. Schwartz is part of the small group that founded modern Remote Viewing research, and is the principal researcher studying the use of Remote Viewing in archaeology. This week on Comes A Time, Mike and Oteil welcome parapsychologist, radio and television interviewer, Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove. They discuss how he became the only recipient of a doctoral diploma in parapsychology at UC Berkeley, the different planes of hyperspace, and higher dimensions of existence - and the many ways humans experience and investigate them. Jeffrey Mishlove is a licensed clinical psychologist, an accomplished radio and television interviewer, and one of the most erudite and articulate personalities on television. Jeffrey holds the only doctoral diploma in parapsychology to be awarded by an accredited American university (University of California, Berkeley). A revision of his doctoral dissertation, Psi Development Systems, was released in 1988 as a Ballantine paperback. This book evaluates methods purported to train psychic abilities. He is also author of The PK Man. He is the author of an encyclopedic volume of consciousness studies, The Roots of Consciousness. Dr. Mishlove is a past director of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, and has served as President of the Intuition Network.  Jeffrey teaches parapsychology to ministers in training with the Centers for Spiritual Living (formerly the Church of Religious Science) through their Holmes Institute. The three discuss the genesis of her band and why she didn’t fully consider herself to be a bassist until she started playing with Marco Benevento, what growing up and living in New York City means to her as a musician, and why she never got into drinking or other substances. Karina also tells the guys about how fellow bassist Dave Dreiwitz gave her the “greatest gift that anybody could give somebody,” and an incredible story about how her grandparents survived the Holocaust, starting a path that would eventually lead to a life of boundless creative freedom for Karina. Karina Rykman is a musician from New York City known for her high-energy bass playing with Marco Benevento. Karina joined Marco’s band in 2016 to replace Dave Dreiwitz, and in the many tours since then, she has developed a permanent and powerful presence in the band. Her musical résumé has almost grown too large to keep track of, and includes a performance on the Today Show with Julia Michaels, a now-famous soundcheck at Madison Square Garden with Phish, opening for bands such as Khruangbin, Vulfpeck, and Dispatch, and many more memorable moments. Jon tells the guys about his experience playing college basketball and what he learned from it, the work that went into developing BLAPP, and the three dive deep on racial equality and social justice issues, as John explains why it’s critically important to have these conversations.  Jon Laster is an award-winning New York-based comedian who has performed across the USA. Jon has been featured in the New York Times, Rolling Stone Magazine and on the syndicated morning TV show, The Breakfast Club.
