In this #coachbetter episode, Kim address what she means by "confidentiality with transparency". As coaches, we know that coaching experiences need to be confidential so we can create a safe space for teachers to be vulnerable, take risks and set authentic goals. However, sometimes we worry that because coaching is confidential we can never share anything that happens within a coaching relationship.

So, what happens when:

• A coaching partner has success and sees an impact on student learning?

• Our administrators are curious about what we're doing in our coaching cycles?

• Work that we're doing with one coaching partner might be relevant or supportive to another one of our coaching partners?

• When we're seeing trends across a division or subject area that would be helpful for leaders to know?

• We want to build interest in the impact of coaching by sharing coaching stories with the school community?

• We need to demonstrate the impact that coaching has made with people who manage the budget or the board?

This is the first #coachbetter episode for season seven of the podcast and Kim highlights 5 key themes that have been percolating to the surface in her work over the past academic year. All of these topics have been a big feature of the in-person work Kim has been doing, our global cohorts of The Coach, and the long term consulting work she does with schools. 

The themes are:

This #coachbetter episode is the first in one of our new features for Season 5: a coaching case study with one of our amazing The Coach graduates, Kristen Cameron.

These case study episodes are designed to share the story of a coach, and the development of their coaching program and practice in their unique setting. Kristen is an ELD (English Language Development) TOSA in Santa Cruz City Schools, and she just graduated from The Coach last semester. In this episode we talk about Kristen's journey as a coach, and how she's been working to develop her own coaching practice and the district's coaching program. We talk about what coaching looks like in her district, what works and what's challenging, her "aha' moments from her first years as a coach, how she's refining her practice for the next year, and what she wishes she knew before she started. In this #coachbetter episode, we have a fantastic panel episode featuring three of our superstar graduates from The Coach Certificate and Mentorship Program!

Amy, Karli, and Abby have all graduated from The Coach in the last few years. They all came to the program with lots of experience teaching and were new to a coaching role. In the program, they learned the skills they needed to be effective and successful as coaches - and they're continuing to apply and develop those skills beyond the scope of just coaching now that they've graduated. In this episode we talk about how they got into coaching, what surprised them when they moved into coaching, the skills they learned in the coach that prepared them to be successful as a coach, how their coaching skills support them well beyond "just coaching" and what they believe all growing and aspiring coaches should do to keep growing professionally.

The Thrive Model brings together all of her experience as a coach, as well as the experiences of her clients, and the expert guests she's interviewed on this podcast. We use this model to structure all of our courses for coaches, and in particular The Coach Certificate and Mentorship Program. You'll get an overview of the model in this episode, and how the three elements of Clarity, Consistency, and Community can be used to develop coaching programs, evaluate and refine existing programs, and support you in developing your own individual practice as a coach. With the Thrive Model we are intentionally designing for a culture of belonging through coaching with both a micro and a macro view.
