We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Schuyler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steve, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
JavaTwist began as a seed in my brain while I was still running a small coffee shop. We would introduce new drinks to our customers all the time and I was selling the drink everyone knows which is an “Arnold Palmer”–Iced Tea and Lemonade. I ran out of iced tea one day and decided to try Cold Brewed coffee and Lemonade together and it was a hit. I looked for the drink on the market, but it did not exist. We started JavaTwist because I wanted to drink this product and had lots of friends and family asking me for it as well. Fast forward 4 years JavaTwist has 5 flavors on the market with more coming. We use clean ingredients and pair cold brewed coffee with fruit juice. It is shelf stable, brewed in Wisconsin, made in small batches, and has been shipped all over the US.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JavaTwist is a small startup company that pairs cold brewed coffee with fruit juice together. We are unique in the marketplace today giving the customer a truly unique experience with coffee. I started the company by bootstrapping it myself. I took a page out of the beer industry using small scale equipment to help me pasteurize and bottle the drinks to make them shelf stable. Covid was a tremendous challenge being able to give out samples when we did markets and events. Instead of giving small samples, I chose to give out whole bottles. It was costly, but it allowed me see reactions of my customers while getting the name out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depending on the time of year….I would take them to the Wisconsin State Fair. From food vendors to local merchants selling their wares, to all of the animals and agriculture, as well as all of the great musical concerts. Overall a great time and worth the visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
JavaTwist was founded with the notion of creating unique drinks that are different than the ordinary. That being said we have had so much help from the beginning like: setting up a LLC, design and logo help, brand awareness through micro-influencers, small local stores believing in the products, my family who has been so supportive, and great customers who have been so supportive as a small startup.
