Snacks or the System with Nutritionist, Author and Writer Laura Thomas PhD
mercredi 30 juillet 2025 • Duration 01:21:12
This was such a thrilling insightful conversation! Join me as Laura Thomas helps to 'complicate simplistic food narratives for our overall peace' - I love that phrase! We discuss the societal and cultural influences on food choices and Laura's ultimate thorn, the hyper focus on ultra-processed foods in modern diets. As always, there is so much more to the story! Capitalism, domestic gender equality and politics all come into play on our plates.
Find Laura Thomas, PhD in Nutritional Sciences, registered nutritionist, and author of the newsletter "Can I Have Another Snack." Her newsletter and podcast Here, IG here and her books here (apologies that the ‘zon was the only spot I could find selling them in the US).

Mad Haters; Adventures in Wellness-Land with writer, author Cecile Simmons
mercredi 16 juillet 2025 • Duration 01:20:26
I was first introduced to Cecile Simmons from her essay on being an expert on wellness misinformation and yet falling down a rabbit hole of social media fueled wellness trends even as she knew she was being duped. After that I was hooked (relatable!). We talk about the upsetting relationship between wellness, misinformation/disinformation and politics. In a world filled with conflicting information and the political agendas that shape wellness, the need for a balanced approach to health that prioritizes genuine well-being over societal pressures is even more needed.Cecile's book Ctrl Delete Hate is out now - get it HEREFind Cecile Simmons work HERE and HERE

Home is Where We Start
mercredi 4 décembre 2024 • Duration 01:36:49
I’m so happy to share this conversation that is a bit more personal as Susanna and I discuss her memoir and the intersection of our childhood experiences. Susanna grew up in a Utopian experiment in the UK. I grew up with a bunch of artists experiencing near constant accident, divorce, and trauma. Neither of us had adults around who guided or protected us very much in our childhoods. Susanna has written an incredible book, articulating with an eye that goes back and forth in time, what that felt like as a child and teen and now, as an adult engaged and empowered in her own life, what our childhood means to us as adults.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

MORE PLEASE on memoir, growing up and being young with Author and journalist Emma Specter
mercredi 20 novembre 2024 • Duration 01:02:08
Thrilled to open the latest season of Busy Body in conversation with Emma Specter. We discuss her new book, her memoir, More, Please on Food, Fat, Bingeing, Longing and the Lust for 'Enough'.
More, Please, reads like a bright, light, young-ambitious-woman-coming-of-age-in-the-big-city, albeit with a parallel life of addiction and self harm (because isn't that the truth behind those stories anyway??). It is extraordinarily relatable, funny, painful, insightful and ultimately not only hopeful but inspiring.Personally I think everyone should read first person account of living with ED, whether you think you have one or not, that being said, Eating Disorders are discussed so proceed with caution if that might be upsetting for you. It's hard to be upset around Emma Specter though, her expansive perspective on life is infectious.Emma Specter is a Vogue Culture WriterFind Emma's other writing HERE and her IG HERE If you like the pod please rate review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts! The Episode:
I'm so excited to finally have this episode out. Alex Auder is an actor, a writer and an incredible Yoga Teacher, part of a very specific OG niche of the NY Yoga scene. Her book, Don't Call Me Home is out now.
This episode gets both personal and very NY-yoga-world-insider-y as she and I reminisce about our beginnings in the movement world, the loose boundaries of our childhood upbringings, and a topic I've been desperate to discuss - how any of us can practice Yoga when pretty much every major Yoga teacher has been "Me-too-ed".
Also please forgive that the first 20 minutes of the episode, Alex's mic wasn't connecting so she sounds a bit muffled, my producer hopped on and fixed it, and the rest of the interview she's crystal clear.
Alex is a brilliant, hilarious, wonderful guest and the author of the memoir, Don't Call Me Home. I highly recommend it and her extremely rare classes that pop up at Kula Yoga. You can also follow Alex on her Instagram account where hopefully she will grace us with more performance art soon.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. As always please subscribe, like, share and leave a review. It helps get this podcast listened to.

mercredi 10 juillet 2024 • Duration 44:32
On the newest episode of BUSY BODY, I interview Marina Hayes, founder of Peridot Robes who's company tagline is PROUD FAT SUPREMACISTS! 💘. Peridot Robes is a Fat-Femme Owned and Operated company right down to the seamstresses and is made in LA from remnant fabric. On this episode we hear about the origins of a company created originally to provide the fat community with well fitting and sexy bathrobes ( the brand now includes dresses, caftans ,crop tops and a super cool shoulder bag made especially for large bodies people!) We discuss the power of creating a size exclusive (14-40 ) brand and the misconceptions and mistakes made in so much of plus size clothing production.
I can't wait to have Marina back to talk more about her activism.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

Shrink it and Pink it, understanding sex inequality in Sports and Athletics with Author, Christine Yu
mercredi 12 juin 2024 • Duration 01:13:07
On this episode of Busy Body Podcast I'm speaking with author and journalist Christine Yu about her new book Up To Speed, The Groundbreaking Science of Women Athletes.
Up To Speed is a must read for anyone who has ever engaged with sports and fitness whether recreationally or at a professional or collegiate level. There are so many mind blowing moments including the realization that cycling could actually be comfortable if anyone created bicycle seats for female anatomy (!)

Swimsuit subversion with Martha Hudson of Luv Martha
mercredi 29 mai 2024 • Duration 01:06:37
On the newest episode of BUSY BODY, I interview Martha Hudson of Luv Martha Swim. She creates size + gender inclusive custom bikinis and swimwear. A perfectly disruptive combination of female owned small business, activism (visibility!) and slow fashion.
I love everything in this episode! (also I have an overflowing bathing suit collection and swim year round so this topic is especially my jam) - from sustainable fashion, to what 'flattering' means (another favorite topic of mine) Martha's light and energy comes through the mic!
Martha is on a creative mission to help people express their innate beauty and power through self expression ALL while running her own small business (which includes doing all the sewing). She is a force for good!
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.
