Ahoy Matey!04 Dec 202001:34:22

Ahoy Matey! This week we tell you the story of Pirate Radio Station, Radio Caroline with special guest Charlie Ashcroft from Amazing Radio.

Radio Caroline which launched in the 60s in reaction to the monopoly of the BBC and the major labels. The station took residency on a boat in the sea just outside British territory and went on to be one of the biggest stations in the UK, much to the digust of the labels and the governments. We dig into the real story of the boat that rocked, including murder, theft, storms and spliffs.

Special thanks to our guest this week, Charlie Ashcroft: https://amazingradio.com/shows/audition/poll

Badgering the witness27 Nov 202001:30:34

This week’s theme is songs about masturbation including Cindy Laupers ‘She Bop’, Orgasm Addict by Buzzcocks, I touch myself by Divinyls, B.O.B by Macy Gray and Billy Idol’s Dancing with myself. We discuss the back stories to these songs and the impact they had for the bands. From breast cancer awareness to Blue Boy and a few amusing slang terms, this show's packed with some unexpected facts.

We also have lots of new music too. Probably not about masturbation, but songs you really do need to hear, including bands We Three Kings, Dois Padres, Jean Genies Massive Hugs, Hot Wax and Wolfgang Von Vanderghast.

If you have a story you would like us to feature or new music you would like us to play, you can get in touch via rockpoprambles@gmail.com or on twitter @bugeyeband Instagram: bugeye_music and Facebook: Bugeyemusic

The Elvis of Cambodia 20 Nov 202001:12:26

Kerrie and Grace venture further afield to explore stories from the world of music outside of Europe and North America. We explore the tragic but fascinating story of the thriving Cambodian Rock scene during the 60s and early-70s and how it was brutally silenced by the Khmer Rouge in 1975 before travelling to Africa to chat about the sociopolitical world and music of Fela Kuti and Afrobeat.

New music hot picks this week come from Animal Breakdown and Teenage Waitress.

If you have a story or new music you would like us to feature, please pop us an email to rockpoprambles@gmail.com

Tough sh** your songs banned10 Sep 202000:51:38

This week Angela and Paula explore the songs the BBC loves to ban. From Sex Pistols to Abba we do a run down of our favs axed from the airwaves over the years, some of which are quite frankly bizarre. We also discuss censorship and pose the question of when is it or is it ever acceptable.

New Music this week comes from Fightmilk and Chorus Girl

The F-List29 Aug 202001:18:19

This week we are joined by special guest, Vick Bain, Former CEO of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, now PhD researcher into women's careers in the music industry and creator of The F-List. We discuss the UK music industry and the appalling under-representation of women.

We also celebrate the first black female headliner at Glastonbury Festival, Skin from Skunk Anansie, and sing the praises of St Vincent who we think should headline pretty much every festival on the planet.

A massive thank you to Vick Bain for joining us on the show. To learn more about Vick and her work please visit:

EPISODE 23

Whatever happened to... East 17?

Whatever happened to... Klaxons?

Whatever happened to... Cathy Dennis?

Yep, it's a question that comes up from time to time, people and bands who were once music industry heavy weights who now seem to have faded away... what happened to them? Well, we're about to tell you!

East 17, 90s boy band with a string of hits, sold out tours, more headlines than you can shake a stick out, but just like that, it was gone. What happened to these lads? Well, listen in and you'll find out.

Klaxons produced a massively successful album. Every song seemed like a single. They were refreshingly different from their counter parts, but they seemed to suddenly disappear from the music radar... where did they go?

Cathy Dennis - Solo artist and hitmaker topping the charts in the 90s gave up the public limelight. Where did she go, what did she do? Tune in for the lowdown!

This weeks new music come from New Pagens 'Yellow Room' and Potpourri with 'Dearly Departed'.

Invasion of the cabbage patch dolls 28 Jul 202001:21:04

This week we're joined by special guest Caffy St Luce, the fairy godmother of rock, as we explore protest songs through the ages. Kerrie takes us back to the 1930s and what is believed to be one of the first protest songs, Strange Fruit sung by Billie Holiday. We also moonwalk back in time to life in 1979 from politics to the launch of the Sony Walkman before landing at the feet of legends The Slits and their song 'Typical Girl'.

Expect random facts and stories of Howard Marks, Manic Street Preachers, Mason and more on that inflatable kayak.

Our music hot picks this week are from Dream Nails and Rosehip Teahouse.

What a bright spark... and a complete nut job15 Jul 202001:12:32

This week Angela and Grace tell the story of Phil Spector looking at his early life, his rise to fame, his demise and the murder of Lana Clarkson. It's a rollercoaster ride of the Wall of Sound, inflatable dolls, Christmas kids, and a whole lot more in-between.

Our artist hot picks this week are by Deux Furieuses 'Let them burn' and 1983 by The Tuts.

Please note that Grace's phone line has a bit of background noise. She wasn't standing next to a plane taking off, but more a case of lockdown playing with our phone line quality.

Blair, put down the guitar and walk away19 May 202001:30:05

This week Paula Snow and Angela Martin from Bugeye are joined by Bill Cummins and Jim Auton from God Is In The TV podcast Show Me Magic! We take a trip down memory lane and look at the death of Britpop and ask, was it all Tony Blair and his Fender guitars fault? We also discuss the tragic 27 club members, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain and Richey Edwards, before kicking off a quick fire quiz on Little Richard who sadly passed away last week. Our final feature looks at five of the artists who were influenced by the work of Kraftwerk including Bowie and OMD.

This week our new music comes from Foundlings, Hurtling, Clwb Fuzz and Fenne Lily.

THIS WEEKS SHOW

Lily Allen is an English singer, songwriter and author that has been dragged through the mud in the press. Breakdowns, breakups, award-winning albums, hit singles and tragedy. We take a look at her rise to fame and what was really going on behind the scenes.

Courtney Love, queen of grunge, has been very outspoken and not shy of public spats. We look at some of the more famous feuds and question their validity.

I love you Kerrie20 Apr 202001:30:13

Kerrie and Angela cover the stories of Nina Simone, The Sex Pistols and Sid and Nancy in an extended version of the podcast this week.

Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, musician and civil rights activist. Known for songs such as 'My baby just cares for me', I love you Porgy' and 'Feeling good', we take a look back to where it all began, the struggle and passion of someone young, gifted and black in the 50s.

Anarchy in the UK, the birth of punk and the tragic tale of Sid and Nancy. We look at the creation of the Sex Pistols and the turbulent lifes of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen. Accidental deaths, suicide pact gone wrong or murder?

New music featured in this episode is by the bands Tiger Mimic and Skies.

This week Kerrie and Paula talk about the careers of La Roux and Amanda Palmer, finding unexpected parallels between the two, who both stepped away from major labels to explore other ways of creating and releasing music. They also explore the part that crowdfunding has played in changing the way that artists can fund their art by looking at the Amanda Palmer's Kickstarter campaign for her album 'Theatre is Evil'. Discover new music from Dutch Mustard and Floodhounds.

Rock Pop Rambles, is the weekly podcast series, brought to you by the members of disco punk band Bugeye. Each week two members of the band take to the mics to each discuss a story from the world of rock and pop and also to play you their new music discovery of the week.

Happy anniversary 06 Apr 202000:54:45

This week Angela is joined by Grace (Gracy two keys) to look at the work and life (to date) of Kate Bush and random facts, some maybe true, and some might not be so true. They also explore the work of Delia Derbyshire who was behind so many innovations in electronic music at a time when syths didn't even exist.

New music this week is from the incredible solo project from Kat Five of Feral Five fame and the riotous, dead good, fun and all things inbetween, GGAllen Partridge.

This week we take a look at the urban myth, Paul is dead, one of rocks most famous legends. We also explore the work of American artist, Cynthia Plaster Caster and new music from Twist Helix and The Head of Light Entertainment.

Paul is dead

Apparently Paul McCartney is dead, so who's the dude pretending to be him? and how on earth did he pull it off? Was it with the help of MI5 and the Queen, or is this just all an elaborate hoax? Jolly well listen in and find out.

Cynthia Plaster Caster

American artist and self-described "recovering groupie" who gained fame for creating plaster casts of famous peoples erect penises.
