They discuss the challenges of handling end-of-life financial decisions, the importance of having key documents like power of attorney, and the emotional and practical aspects of financial caregiving. Dr. Peters is then joined by Dr. Winston Chiong, the Mary Oakley Foundation Professor of Neuroethics in the UCSF Department of Neurology at the Weill Institute for Neuroscience. Dr. Chiong explains what happens in terms of the decision-making capacity of the brain for people with memory concerns, how financial decision making capability is assessed, and how we can support both people with these conditions and caregivers.

Dr. Daniel Correa interviews Audrey Stafford, care partner for her husband Jeff Golub who passed away from complications of the condition PSP. Audrey shares her story as a partner navigating a PSP diagnosis and how it impacted her family. Then Dr. Correa welcomes back to the podcast Dr. Alexander Pantelyat, Director of Atypical Parkinsonism Center at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Also joining the discussion is Salin Geevarghese, son and care partner for his mother who lives with corticobasal degeneration (CBD). Brian—who was diagnosed with ALS in 2017 at 37 years old—and his wife and care partner Sandra share their family's experience with ALS and how they have utilized their skills from working on legislation and political campaigns to become effective advocates and raise awareness about this neurodegenerative disease. Next, Dr. Correa speaks with Dr. Jinsy Andrews, neurologist and associate professor of neurology in the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine and director of Neuromuscular Clinical Trials at Columbia University. Dr. Andrews discusses the advances in treatment for ALS, the evolution of clinical trials in recent years, and how these trials benefit research for other neurodegenerative conditions.

Next, Dr. Nath sits down with Dr. Michael Okun, executive director of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases and professor of neurology at University of Florida Health. Dr. Okun explains what happens in the brain of someone living with Tourette syndrome, various ways the condition can be treated, and what he is hopeful for in the future of therapy development.

Sarah Todd shares her experiences with Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) from diagnosis to today, highlighting the diagnosis and treatment processes and how she has continued to follow her dreams throughout the years. Dr. Correa is then joined by Dr. Kiran Thakur, a neurologist and expert in infections that affect the brain and nervous system. Dr. Thakur is an associate professor of Neurology at Columbia University and has worked around the world studying how diseases like viruses can lead to serious neurologic conditions. Dr. Thakur explains what AFM is, the effects it can have, and what can be learned about how to care for patients with rare and life-changing neurologic conditions.
