Having read the books, Tim and David share their experiences with implementing some of their learnings.

Of note; we are not nutritionists and our conversation about diet does not amount to advice. If you are interested in what we are saying please read the books we mentioned and speak to your doctor or dietician about them before making any significant changes to your eating habits.

Bonus Insights - Jordan B. Peterson's Lessons on Drug Dependence

vendredi 3 juillet 2020Duration 11:50

A recent episode of The Mikhaila Peterson Podcast has inspired David to discuss the human side of self-help and the dangers of devoting life learnings to one source. Peterson himself will admit that he is not the source of all knowledge, and in this case isn't qualified to prescribe drugs, so it comes as no surprise that during the chaos of his life that he was prescribed with a hell of a drug called a benzodiazepine. Though Peterson is not out of the woods, he is getting effective treatment for a dependency that is commonly developed on the drug. Provided that his treatment continues to go well, he is working on his third book, which we will cover with the same perspective as his last book, just the content in its entirety exclusive of the gotcha questions and incomplete statements that result for intellectual traps and misleading editing from mainstream media.

Blind Insights - The Price of Peace and the Brilliance of Keynes through the 21st Century (Special Guest Zach Carter)

Episode 72

vendredi 26 juin 2020Duration 01:20:40

This episode of Blind Insights discusses the masterful book that touts being part biography and part political and economic commentary by Zach D. Carter, a reporter at the Huffington Post in the US. "The Price of Peace: Money, Democracy, and the Life of John Maynard Keynes" is a fantastic read for anyone, no economics interest or understanding required.

Though the book tells a riveting story about the life of Keynes, his ideas are more relevant than ever and make a great companion to anyone who is interested in progressive change for a better world. Economics is a tool through which thoughtful people can make a vision for the future come true, and no economist understood this better than Keynes, who is perhaps the most influential economist of all time. Zach, who is now an expert in Keynesian theory is a renowned political commentator who has very nuanced and interesting views on the political discourse and the medias role in the western economic narrative. David and Tim spurred on by a fascination with the book, are able to tease out some fantastic discussion with Zach in this special episode of Blind Insights.

See more about Zach.

The book is made available through Penguin Random House.

Blind Insights - What the Ocean Reveals about Humanity (Special Guest James Nestor)

Episode 71

jeudi 18 juin 2020Duration 42:44

In this episode of Blind Insights, David and Tim are joined by James Nestor, author of Deep: Freediving, Renegade Science, and what the Ocean Tells Us About Ourselves

David has been fascinated by James Nestor's work in a part science, part anthropology, part philosophy, and utter genius book that is a fantastic social commentary and looks into the fascinating sport of freediving. The book draws on some topics that are directly related to David's blindness but also gives great imagery into very unique experiences humans can have underwater. There are very few ways to describe the fluid divergence of this discussion except to say it is a fantastic discussion about a fantastic book. We will be discussing James' newest book when it is released in the near future.

Blind Insights - Would you Choose Pain or Boredom?

Episode 70

samedi 13 juin 2020Duration 45:08

Inspired by Timothy Wilson's Social Science experiment involving a voluntary 15 minutes of boredom in a plain room or an electric shock, a 'shocking' amount of people, especially men, chose the pain option over sitting with their thoughts for a short time. With the many possible causes and implications of these findings, David and Tim just had to talk about it and consider the dangers of distraction and the reasons we want to be distracted.

Bonus Insights - It Matters when Generals and Admirals speak! (BLM)

jeudi 4 juin 2020Duration 09:17

Civil-military relations can seem like daunting jargon to most civilians, but it refers to how the military engages with the public it defends. In the case of America, the largest military force in the world, it is very important what civil-military relations are like, and it is even more important when ex-military leaders talk about politics. For a traditionally taboo subject for military leaders, it is very uncommon for one, let alone two significant figures to speak out against an active president, let alone one they served under. David breaks down the messages from Mike Mullen and James Mattis while pondering the significance of these statements.

Blind Insights - How to make Black Lives Matter (Special Guest Peter Thomson)

Episode 69

jeudi 4 juin 2020Duration 01:02:26

While chaos plagues the streets of the US in the name of justice for George Floyd and for seriously disaffected black Americans we could be on the brink of serious change for America. This begs the question, what should we change in order to lift people out of disadvantage and suffering in a western democracy like Australia or the US where black populations experience radically different opportunities? As the Covid-19 have lifted in South Australia, Peter, Tim and David are reunited in the Auscast Network Studio to discuss the merits of different races adding to the conversation and what needs to be considered in order to enact serious change.

Episode 68

mercredi 3 juin 2020Duration 01:16:35

Through following Penny Locaso's LinkedIn page David noticed some very admirable and interesting ideas about connecting people through the strange period of the COVID-19 crisis. We knew that we had to get Penny back on the podcast to discuss the merits of such an exercise. Penny, David, and Tim discuss how we as humans adapt to the unfamiliarity of the world we live in through restrictions and what a brave new paradigm might look like on the other side.
